  1. Once Danielson officially wraps it up as a full-time wrestler, he'd be the perfect choice to serve as a troubleshooting commissioner type who maintains law and order and occasionally steps in the ring to put the heels in their place when they get too far out of line. I'd be much more interested in that than an increasingly self-indulgent dream match retirement tour.
  2. I'm so used to calculating time periods starting in the early 2000s for work that I must have adopted that as my default starting date as a cognitive shortcut and turned 1980 into 2000 in my head. That's the only explanation I can offer for such a glaring error. Regardless, my overall point stands as long as you ignore the mistake that invalidates it. By the way, has there been an explosion of ads on this board for anyone else? There used to be just one at the top of the page, but now I'm seeing multiple ones in each thread interspersed between the posts.
  3. Artists are supposed to become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Ozzy's first solo album came out in 1980, so he shouldn't even be eligible until next year. Than again, a good chunk of the inductees in recent years aren't even rock musicians, so there's no sense in quibbling over criteria.
  4. I would argue that it's better for a heel to backdoor her way into the title by winning a battle royal than to beat someone for it straight-up, especially if she's just keeping the belt warm until Rhea returns.
  5. Liv Morgan has fans? With that said, I do think Liv winning the title after taking credit for putting Rhea on the shelf to set up Rhea coming back for revenge is a more compelling story. Not to mention Rhea just beat Becky clean a few weeks ago. But I'm not the Cerebral Assassin, so what do I know?
  6. Steve Sims once wrote that more luchadores than you might think dislike working under masks because they restrict vision, make it harder to breathe, and are uncomfortable overall (and almost as importantly, make it harder to get laid). And I remember reading that El Santo's ears were pinned to the side of his head from wearing his mask all the time in public.
  7. It looks like Rock bringing back blood and swearing has opened the door for the rest of the roster to push the envelope rather than being a special dispensation for him alone.
  8. If they think that's bad, wait until they find out that some of the fights on the card might have been fixed. Athletic commission regulation of pro wrestling is such a ridiculous anachronism.
  9. Shota's actually facing Moxley for the title at Resurgence (technically he's facing the winner of Moxley/Narita at Dontaku, but come on). I'd be shocked if they pulled the trigger on a title change, but I'd also be pretty impressed. Either way, they need to shit or get off the pot with the Musketeers. Having them continually face top guys and come up short every time is only going to make fans give up on them.
  10. It was well-known that Dory Sr. didn't want his son to drop the title to another babyface and to Brisco in particular. Brisco himself thought the latter might have been due to personal animosity or Texas pride in not wanting to put over an Oklahoman. Two days before the scheduled title change, the NWA received word that Dory Jr. had separated his shoulder after rolling his truck on the family ranch and would be out of action indefinitely. The Funks swore up and down the injury was legitimate and even produced medical records, but there was plenty of skepticism for obvious reasons. Race was agreed upon as the transitional champion because he was a legit tough guy who could guarantee that everything would go according to plan and because Kansas City promoter Bob Geigel and Dory Sr. were longtime friends.
  11. I agree that the main motivation is probably to keep the merchandise gravy train rolling for as long as possible. Because there's not much else you can do with a Wyatt-less Wyatt Family. They're like the Dark Order after Brodie Lee died.
  12. Erick Rowan pulled out of an indy booking due to what the promotion described as "new contractual obligations." Looks like he's going back to the E.
  13. The overrun is a relic of the Monday Night Wars when Raw and Nitro were in a dogfight for ratings. This was before DVR, so strict adherence to timeslots wasn't a concern. And there wasn't anything on other channels at 11 PM on a Monday night to be worried about unless the MNF game was going down to the wire. Even after the war ended, the overrun was usually the highest-rated part of the show because viewers had been conditioned to expect the major angles to take place then. That stopped being the case after Raw expanded to three hours. By that point, though, the overrrun had been around or so long that people who grew up on it entered the business and figured that was just the way things were done because it was all they knew.
  14. Tama Tonga looks like he's been saying his prayers and eating his vitamins.
