Okay match, big pop for the finish, and of course, Hogan is out immediately before and immediately after to make sure the focus is on him. Also, Woman has arrived! Also, they're already teasing Hogan/Savage in Las Vegas, which I think they had decided on for the Halloween Havoc main event even before Hogan ever turned heel. Robert S Posted January 7, 2011 Report Share Posted January 7, 2011 The way the introduced Woman here seems a bit strange to me, six women in evening gowns accompanying Savage, five being random girls and one being Woman, not even immediately recognized by the announcers. Hogan was booed pretty heavily when he demanded the title shot. It's obvious why because he again acted like a dick. Also this promo made me realize that the Bockwinkel line from the Hogan-Savage promo the week before was not some strange AWA shoot but a refence to Bockwinkel being some WCW figurehead. She was the catalyst to the Horsemen going heel after the J-Tex feud ran its course. By spring, people with power were higher on Missy Hyatt, and the prevailing thought at the time was that they could only get one woman over, so she ended up fading out, and one day, she just wasn't there with him. I think they explained it on TV by saying that she was suspended for bringing an "international object" into the cage at Capital Combat (which I always thought was kinda cool). My only WCW viewing at the time was the occasional Worldwide and the Apter Mags. It didn't seem like it lasted long and honestly the only thing I remember was how hot Nancy looked. I mean no offense by this but at the time of their pairing Nancy was only in her mid 20s and honestly could have passed for early/mid 30s. Flair was 15 years older than her but that just didn't translate to TV (I guess that was a good thing for Flair). Maybe it was to gain a "man we better not miss Nitro, the World Title changed hands. The match didn't come across as a big match, but rather a regular Nitro matchup with a big pop for a title change at the end. Crazy as it isn't even the main event match on the show. It wasn't until watching this match I realize that Savage/Flair, Savage/Hogan both were past Wrestlemania main events in the WWF, and are alluded to in the Billionaire Ted skits. So when he returned in April 1999 and had the horrific feuds with Nash and Sid, I figured he was always done after the WWF run. Nancy (although I'm not sure she was actually married at this point), Debra McMichael, Linda Hogan (I'm 99% sure that was her at the front)...I like to believe the others were married as well. Match itself is pretty fun. And Hogan really comes across as a douche before and after it. It's honestly a level of douchebaggery that seems deliberate. Sure, we all know that hot babes love bad boys, but Savage isn't a bad boy -- he's a complete maniac! Love his post-match snapping on Hogan, and even though this is hardly the first time we've seen them go at it, it still feels like a big deal. Like that will last. Savage wins the title and wrestling changes forever with the title change on free TV (not even the main event). Hogan was so quick to jump all over Savage’s big win. El-P Posted January 8, 2014 Report Share Posted January 8, 2014 Match didn't feel any special, just your regular Flair vs Savage TV match with a surprise finish. Hogan vs ONe Man Gang was the main event of the show, which tells it all. Savage is pretty great getting in Hogan's face after the match. Finally ! The whole Woman deal was interesting, at least Heenan referred to her past with Flair. In the 1996 Timeline, Sullivan talked about Hogan wanting Linda to get involved as a valet at this point. Hogan is out to steal the spotlight before *and* after the match, demanding a title shot. It wouldn't be a Savage title win otherwise. Randy effectively puts Hogan in his place. They're certainly letting it all hang out for the Clash show as well--the Road Warriors are announced, back when that was still a big deal, as is the return of Elizabeth. Shocking finish too with the title switch which in retrospect I probably wouldn't have done. Title change gets a big crowd reaction, but it happening early in the show and them going right into a different angle immediately post-match sort of cheapens it as a big moment.
