You see a camera in the woods and hear screaming. Finally, you see Kevin Sullivan tied in a Jesus-like position to two trees talking about Rage in the Cage. This is awesome in that it's a 70s style madman promo, but it's also really focused on hyping the upcoming cage match and explaining the storyline. Sullivan was a great talker.

Sullivan drops all of his favorite standbys: Abuddadein, bathing in the River Ganges, the Lady with the Third Eye (whom he enjoyed immensely!), etc. This was awesome, and this comes from someone who was never big on Sullivan's act be it in the CWF or in WCW, but who's enjoyed the hell out of his SMW run. Cornette allowed Sullivan to cut loose (which WCW would never have allowed) but also kept him in the mid-card to keep his act from taking over the program (which is what killed things in Florida). The only thing this run has missed has been an appearance from King Curtis. Also, touching on the WWE TV overexposure thread, it's incredible how fresh and exciting things seem by the mere fact that Sullivan is aligning himself with the Heavenly Bodies and Lee with the Rock 'n Rolls. These guys have been in SMW for months, some of them since the beginning, but are just now beginning to interact with each other, and there's wonder and excitement as to what's going to happen because of it. I know the genie's not going back in the bottle but I'm missing those days.

Color me surprised that the Stud Stable are still around at this point, and on the babyface team at that.

This is a great point. It was pretty simple but a great way to make things very interesting without needing to do anything spectacular. Meanwhile, this Sullivan stuff is great and his madness here doesn't seem too over the top or outrageous at all. Apparently Nighstalker turned on him?

It happened at the Bluegrass Brawl Singapore Spike match between Sullivan and Brian Lee. The Nightstalker was holding Lee and Sullivan went to punch him, Lee moved and he hit the Nightstalker instead. The Nightstalker then got hold of the Singapore Spike and was reluctant to give it to Sullivan and that led to Lee rolling The Master up from behind for the win. After the match Sullivan started berating and slapping the Nightstalker (who was still handcuffed to the ring post at this point - part of the ruling of the Singapore Spike match) before attacking him with a chair. When the Nightstalker was finally released from the ring post Sullivan fled and the turn was complete.

I mentioned elsewhere that it was a shame that around a month later the Nightstalker was out of here and Adam Bomb in the WWF, as I reckon he could have easily been one of the top two faces here, especially with the way the crowd react to him after the turn.

Sullivan is tied to some trees in the crucifixion position and is wailing. He wanted to change, he wanted to be good, but they're sending him into a cage, the Rage in the Cage, so how can he be good? He went back to the valley of the Abbuda Dein and he's strapped himself to the tree of woe. The buzzards have been flying all night and the vultures have been plucking at his chest looking for weakness because the Nightstalker turned his back on him. He says that he was on the line of maybe being a good boy, but there is no goodness in his heart, it is black. He has laid with lepers, dined with beggars, gone to the valley of the dead, bathed in the River Ganges and has got rid of all the niceness that the Doctor tried to instil in him. He tells Commissioner Armstrong he may have been cured at one time, but he's the one that drove him back over the edge. He's gone to the Seventh Pyramid and walked up the 13 flights, he's dined with the Lady of the Third Eye (and enjoyed it immensely), so put him in a cage for the Rage in the Cage and all hell is going to break loose.

Probably one of my favourite Sullivan promos so far and almost straight out of a horror movie. Sullivan, strapped to the trees, wailing and with his promo comes across as a complete maniac. He's not much when the matches get going, but I doubt there is anyone better and more believable at convincing you they are a legitimate mad man.

I guess I'm the dissenting voice here. Sully's much better when he's talking like a normal person and his madness is just below the surface waiting to boil over or creeps out in ways you'd never expect. He doesn't scare me here; I'm just wondering what he's talking about and when he's going to shut the hell up and stop making my ears bleed.

I'd like to know the backstory of how the Stud Stable turned face. Was it just a case of them hating the Bodies more than Rock 'n' Roll, or did they actually do something to earn the fans' cheers? Fuller's a tremendous face when he wants to be, but I have a hard time imagining anyone cheering for Golden.

Was the Tazmaniac who Sully mentioned actually Taz of later ECW fame, or was it someone else with a similar gimmick? I think I saw Taz on an earlier yearbook being led around by a chain around his neck, so it's probably him, but you can never tell with Sully (or Corny, for that matter).

From what I remember I don't think the Stud Stable actually 'turned', it was as you surmised, in that the fans just started cheering them when they started to feud with the Bodies.

Yup, it was the same Taz from ECW fame. He had a couple of TV appearances, but his main role was as a participant in the Rage in the Cage match.
