Another wild, stiff brawl with lots of hard table and chair shots. Richard Lee ends up helping the Moondogs retain the title after about 6 minutes of footage from Mid South Coliseum. Jerry Lawler and Jeff Jarrett bring out jobber Ricky Hutchens, who the Moondogs have destroyed and who has lots of scars from a Moondogs attack. Lawler says the Moondogs have always been able to walk away no matter what gets done to them, but this time will be different. Awesome until Jarrett starts getting stuck on his words, but Lawler steps back in and saves him.

EDIT: Mixed up my comments here with the one from a week earlier.

For a no DQ match, this felt a little more reserved compared to some of the earlier matches on the set. No complaints, but it reminded me of when you'd get stips in an ECW rematch even though there was nothing to suggest the stips mattered the first time around. Richard Lee hooks the leg for the pin. The faces take to the mic afterwards and Jarrett seems to lose his focus.

The Moondogs are easily the highlight of the set so far. Might not be the best wrestling but these guys are just wild and a ton of fun and exactly what I want out of brawling heels.

Another crazy match, even though it starts off almost like a note-for-note remake of the previous Monday's match. Still some crazy weapons shots and the ringside area is torn to shreds. Cheapo finish as Richard Lee trips up Fuller and holds his leg down for the pin, which is something you'd probably see early in the series rather than the swan song for the Jarrett/Fuller team.

Now it's Lawler & Jarrett against the Moondogs. Ricky Hutchens' back is completely fucked as a result of a Moondogs squash earlier in the show. Jarrett is still pretty spotty (hah) on the mic, but Lawler is as great as usual.

The brawl was still good, but I can see where weekly bouts like this eventually became too much of a good thing. No one was expecting scientific classics from the Moondogs, but it would have been nice to see a regulation match or two tossed in among the balls-to-the-wall brawls, for variety's sake if nothing else.

Lawler's presence, particularly on the mic, makes this feud feel important somehow. Only the King could have tied in the brutal beating that Hutchings must have taken to an upcoming match quite so effortlessly. Jeff commenting that he looked a bit like Hutchings himself helped too.

The finish with Lee hooking Fuller's leg was a bit weak, but became understandable when Lawler mentioned that Fuller had a match scheduled with Lee the following Monday at the MSC.

I thought Jeff recovered from his verbal slip quite nicely and without help from Lawler. Sometimes I think we're so used to the WWF's slickly post-produced stuff that we forget that guys stumble over their words all the time on live TV. Hell, Jimmy Hart made it part of his schtick ("I'm so excited I can't even talk, man!")

One pet peeve with the announcers: They either need to refer to the Moondogs by their names. It's disconcerting to hear Spotty referred to by name in one breath, then hear anonymous references to "the Moondog" in the next. Hey, guys, they're both Moondogs, and they both have names, if you should ever care to learn them.

We are still at the point in the month where the violence is so visceral that I don't mind much of the repetition. The action here starts out and never lets up. I love the usage of weapons around the ringside area and Lawler becoming more and more involved was a good way to implement him in. Great promo by Lawler to cap things off. ***1/4 (6.7)
