Yumiko Hotta & Takako Inoue vs Mayumi Ozaki & Hikari Fukuoka

Story of the match is young Fukuoka wanting to step up, play with the big girls and prove herself and they certainly give her every oportunity as she works about 75% of this. One of those matches designed to get a kid over by showing how tough they are for surviving a massive beating, never giving up and still fighting back. Gotta say OZ stole the show however playing the role of protective big sister. Watching this I got the sense that she wanted Fukuoka to prove herself just as much as Fukuoka did so she gives her every opportunity but when needed she was always thear to step in and make the save, attack someone from behind, get in a cheap shot and generally even the odds, come in and kick ass when things got too overwhelming for Fukuoka. Great moment around 10 mins in whear OZ just says fuck it and has enough of watching Fukuoka get beat up so she goes nuts on Takako, getting in a crazy slap war, which she wins. Between this and Dream Rush I don't think i've ever enjoyed watching someone work from the apron more then Ozaki. A noticeable minority of AJW fans were in the house booing her and she tells them all to fuck off. For their part, dominating bully is a role Hotta was born to play and Takako is quite good here too. Last few minutes are awesome as Fukuoka gets to fight back finally & the JWP team go on a little mini run. Great near fall stretch, Fukuoka bust out some nice moonsaults and suplexes and everything else she can think of but the Zenjo girls are still too tough in the end. Takako gets OZ out of the way keeping her from making any more saves and Hotta drops Fukuoka with the Carribean Splash to win it. This wasn't non stop greatness like Dream Rush, it took it's time a little more but kept going and going and getting better and better and by the end was for sure one of the better matches of the year. Wasn't planning to but re-watching this single handidly made me want to go track down more 92 JWP just to see more of OZ.

This was really great! This is a nice companion and lead-in for the 1/15 match where Kansai was in instead of Fukuoka. This match doesn't quite have the same action level as 1/15 (although it's close), but probably does have a better storyline. Fukuoka takes a beating and the layout was designed to get her over and make her stand out. Ozaki is so good at getting over the big picture story in matches like this. Hotta as the bully for an eager-to-prove-herself Fukuoka makes for a really awesome dynamic. Takako was probably better on 1/15 if only because she was more vital there. Here, she stays a little in the background and is there more to keep the action moving, but she does a good job. While this isn't an interpromotional match, I guess Dream Rush really lit a fire under everyone in both groups, because while there are some great matches before, it's difficult to compare the energy level here to the energy level in JWP just a month before.

Heh, this is what you get for going backwards :)

96 - Interpromotional is largely a dead issue, folks teamed up with people from the other side all the time.

93 - war at it's peak, almost all the major shows feature a heavy amout of AJW vs LLPW, AJW vs JWP, AJW vs FMW or LLPW vs FMW matches (LLPW vs JWP wouldn't come until much later since they actually legit hated each other)

92 - The angle was JUST getting started, I think this was maybe only the 5th interpromotional match that had happend up to this point and only the 2nd to involve JWP.

No wonder you're confused

Also on the tape this match is from they show a big angle whear Toyota, Yamada, Hotta & Takako invaded a JWP show from November and get in a confrontation w OZ, Fukuoka, Kansai & the rest of JWP to set this up. Probably would have helped to see that :)

Just watched this. Great heat, lots of action and intensity, well-paced, and it sets up the 1/15/93 battle. There's a frentic, desperate quality to the last minutes.

Fukuoka's 80s-Madonna-esque cups are hilarious.

Without looking at the match listings, I thought Hotta was Toyota for some reason.

Super hot match with such a quick pace it just flew by. Poor Fukuoka took a real asskicking. Hotta was inspired, and the interpromotional war relit a fire in her that was often missing in the early 90's. Takako was entering her prime and this was her best performance to date. And Oz was out of this world awesome. Thrilling from start to finish. it's easy to forget how great these matches were when you haven't watched them in a while. Bring on 1993.

Crazy match, with Hotta standing out. Not that she was necessarily the best worker but she was clearly positioned in the Jumbo role as the #1 woman, and the match centered around that as well as the veteran-youngster dynamic that was clear even to a joshi noob such as myself. The near-falls are awesome and the finish is pretty awesomely decisive. Bring on more of these interpromotional matches, both for the men and women.

Fukuoka being worked over by the AJW team here is the focus and she does a great job taking a beating while trying to hang in. JWP's style is so distinct from the AJW crew as its stiffer, more mat and bodypart focused, with less emphasis on continual highspots. When they mesh like this it really is great. Fukuoka comes back a bit on Takako which gives Oz a chance to come in and wreck havoc. Loved the somersault dive with a stiff kick to Takako's face. Hotta & Takako work very effectively as heels on JWP's show with great antics and cheap shots. The end got a little spotty and lost some coherence but finished nicely. Fukuoka rightfully ate the pin, but she looked to have a ton of potential here and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her in '93.

I don't have a whole lot to say about this one, because I had no idea who was wrestling; there weren't any ring announcements, there were no commentators, and none of the four ladies had their names anywhere on their gear. Most of you seem to be joshi experts, so maybe you knew who they were, but I didn't. Nice action, but I can't recommend a match between four anonymous (at least to me)Japanese girls.I know I've seen at least the All-Japan girls before, but it's been so long that I needed some kind of clue to remember who was who, and I never got it.

#296

Pretty simple match this one. Hotta and Inoue show up in a JWP ring and make an example out of Fukuoka. She refuses to lay down, the JWP girls fight back a bit, but All Japan take first blood in the interpromotional feud. Never did get the high star rating on this one. Literally nothing happens that is any different from what you'd expect. It's a nice appetizer for the 1/93 tag, as well as Thunder Queen, but it never felt like I was digging into a full meal. Not enough meat and veggies like my old man would say.
