Loss
It's impossible not to compare this to Shawn/Razor, especially in a yearbook format, considering that the matches were happening at the same time. The ladder isn't nearly as much of a dance partner in this match, but the wrestling itself is better. Again, they're working a pace and intensity above anyone else in SMW. Candido takes a crazy gourdbuster from the top of the ladder before Smothers wins. Candido attacks him post-match to show that this isn't over! I'm happy to hear that. Kevin Ridge
Pre match has Smothers kiss a ring side fan with the aid of the confederate flag covering her face. Looks like Tracey could just jump up off the mat and grab the money. This tells me we aren't going to have a whole lot of slow climbing. Ladder seems a bit flimsy. We get a couple turnbuckle 10 count smashes which makes me feel nostalgic. This has a mix of straight wrestling mixed with them using the ladder as a weapon. Candido barely even made any attempts to climb the ladder. They seem to be taking the approach that you really need to beat down your opponent before trying to climb ladder. This is different than Michaels/Ramon but it still good in it's own way. Finish was nice spot.
Exposer
This is a heck of a ladder match sprint. I've said before that these two guys chemistry is untouchable in SMW lore. I liked this a good bit. The finish was very good too. I can't wait to see the one they have in April.
soup23
This was a really great TV match. I thought they used the ladder more than the commenters above have given them credit for and I appreciated the lack of slow climbing with the envelope so low. I also thought the amount they were fighting for seemed fair and not a ridiculous sum of money you saw sometimes in territories.
El-P
A little bit rushed for a ladder match which would require some more time I think, but as a short TV one, it's very good, and there is more actual wrestling and less gimmick than in Shawn vs Razor. Candido takes some great bump, especially one from a Smothers back kick right into the ladder, face first, and the great gourdbuster one at the end. The money seems a little bit low though, and as it's been said Smothers look like he could jump and grab it. Anyway, nice to see a very good match on TV. Love these two worker together. WWF missed the boat big time with Freddie Joe Floyd and Skip.
PeteF3
Fun TV main event. There's no real precedent or expectation of ladder matches to go by just yet, but these two work incredibly hard and throw in some neat spots involving the ladder, particularly Candido wearing it like a necklace and Smothers using that to his advantage. Not to mention some stiff shots with the ladder itself, and of course that pretty crazy ending. Candido trashes Smothers with the ladder afterward, and this feud will CONTINUE at Bluegrass Brawl. I'm sold on that, though not on "The South Is Gonna Rise Again!" as a catchphrase.
GSR
They’ve already got a ladder match signed for Bluegrass Brawl so not sure why they’re having this match on TV, especially as they could practically jump up to get the $2,500 as it was hung so low. They both climb the ladder and are fighting on top of it when Smothers gives Candido a face first suplex from up high to the canvas and then collects the $2,500 to be declared the winner. Candido attacks Tracey from behind after the match, steals the money and beats on him with the ladder. I didn't feel this match as others seemed to as it was only 'okay' to me. I still don’t understand the logic or purpose of having it on TV when Bluegrass Brawl is just over a week away, and I'll write more about that then, but thought the Bluegrass Brawl ladder match absolutely smoked this.
