The Rock & Rolls are grateful for all the support they've gotten and are ready to move on to new challenges. We get Cornette and the Bodies coming out of the SMW Board of Directors meeting, and it looks like the decision stands. The SMW Board of Directors apparently meets in a high school classroom. They are not happy, obviously.

Cornette, dressed in Brother Love colors, does a swan song promo about why he hated the Rock & Roll Express so much for so long. This is one of Cornette's best ever. He concedes defeat after a decade of fighting the Rock & Rolls, while at the same time saying somehow, some way, one day there will be another day. And in one of my favorite wrestling moments ever, the Bodies walk away from Cornette while "Famous Final Scene" plays. This is probably my favorite SMW segment.

Agreed. This is tremendous. Cornette is near tears as he's conceding defeat to the Rock 'n' Rolls. And for the most part (save a few indy shots here and there in the 2000's) this really is the end of Jim Cornette vs the Rock 'n' Roll. Pretty sad, actually.

They had a great run and it ended at exactly the right time. It will be really cool when we do yearbooks from 1984 forward that fill in gaps for those years. Then we can watch the entire rivalry spill to different territories and also view it in the context of everything else happening in the wrestling world from start to finish.

1984 - 1987 should be really kind, and 1990 will have some highlights too. :)

Well, there's also something else that Will is cooking up that will cover it as well. :)

I thought Cornette's mom was on the board! She must have got out voted. Love this Cornette promo. He seems so believable in how devastated he is to lose to the Rock n' Roll in the end and have his team leave in SMW. Cool way to end and last part is great watching the Bodies walk away down the hallway. Got to think the biggest Rock n' Roll fans were feeling this would miss not having the Bodies around.

This is the best SMW segment so far. Cornette cuts a tremendous promo about his history with the Rock N Rolls and admits defeat. The scene with The Heavenly Bodies walking away to "The Famous Final Scene" was fucking awesome. Great, great, great segment.

Rock N Rolls give a nice locker room celebration promo and help build toward a feud with Candido/Lee. The promo Cornette gave was amazing and 1994 really has had some of the best promos I have ever heard so far and Cornette has been at his peak. The bodies walking away was cheesy but worked here and gave them one last memorable moment to ride off into the sunset with. Great segment that conveys the aftermath and ramifications of the big Bluegrass Brawl match and sort of hits the reset button on SMW.

Okay. Some of Cornette's booking I'm not a fan of. The TV format of SMW can be frustrating at times with the lack of regular really good matches. Too much Cornette can get tiresome no matter how good he is. But godamn what a MOTHERFUCKING AWESOME PROMO this man is. I knew beforehand, but he really peaked in SMW, and this one is simply jaw dropping, putting all the pieces of the history together and conceiding the victory to his lifetime nemesis while on the verge of crying. This is the point where you actually feel for the bad guy you love to hate. The Bodies walking off in the blur is the icing on teh cake. The entire segment is pure gold. Maybe my favourite SMW segment too, and I would seriously put that one against anything in any company ever. Just great great stuff.

The babyfaces are celebrating the Rock 'n Rolls' victory, and a grateful Morton instantly moves on to hyping their upcoming program with Lee & Candido.

Cut to a board meeting where Cornette has been appealing the decision in the LLT match. The decision will stand, and after 10 years the Cornette vs. Rock 'n Rolls feud is over--and, yes, as mentioned, this really is the effective end. I don't have much to add but this is absolutely chill-inducing, and probably a mortal lock for Best Promo of the Year. Dammit, I almost have a lump in my own throat as Cornette is almost near tears and the Bodies walk off, knowing this is it and that the Bodies are destined to be wasted as JTTSes in the WWF. That said, whatever led to the decision for the Bodies to go to the WWF full-time--a full-time guarantee they couldn't refuse or simply a Cornette booking decision--it's refreshing to see such a rivalry culminate like this instead of being dragged on and on and on through the mud. This really did feel like the right time to end this. Unfortunately, with the Bodies gone and Dutch Mantell apparently soon to follow, I fear we've seen the peak of SMW both financially and artistically. Looking forward to seeing what's to come, though--there still looks to be a lot of must-see material.

The Rock & Roll Express are backstage and being congratulated by Bob Armstrong, Tracey Smothers, Lance Storm and Bobby Blaze. Bullet Bob congratulates them on winning one of the hardest fought matches he’s ever seen and he’s glad to have them representing Smoky Mountain Wrestling again as tag team champions. Ricky Morton says that throughout his career he’s never been involved in a match as tough and brutal as that one against Jim Cornette’s Heavenly Bodies and he’d like to thank everyone for never giving up on the Rock & Roll Express and supporting them in every town they went to each and every night. Once again they are the SMW tag team champions, but it never stops as there is a new tag team of Brian Lee & Chris Candido who are coming after these belts. The titles are not going to sit on the shelf though and they’ll defend them every night like the champions that they are.

Brian Matthews is waiting to hear from Jim Cornette and the Heavenly Bodies as they’ve called an emergency meeting with the Board of Directors pleading their case about the ‘loser leaves town’ match that took place at the Bluegrass Brawl. Cornette and the Bodies exit the meeting with Jimmy Del Ray slamming the door and Cornette elbowing the wall (I don’t think it went well!). Tom Prichard says that they have been ripped off by the biggest rats in Smoky Mountain Wrestling, the Rock & Roll Express and Bob Armstrong. The Heavenly Bodies can no longer stay in SMW, it’s not right and is a conspiracy of the first degree. Cornette says he knew that coming over here to this meeting would be a waste of time, as Bob Armstrong and the Board of Directors have waited for this chance a long time and now they’ve got it. The decision will stand, the stipulation will stand and the Bodies are out of here. Everyone always asks him why he hates the Rock & Roll Express and why he’s been so obsessed with them? For ten long years, all across the country, in every major wrestling promotion, he’s done everything he can to send his teams after them and get them out of professional wrestling. He hates them because he’s devoted his life to this sport, he wanted to be the best, wanted to manage the best and every team he has managed has been the best. Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton, Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane, Stan Lane & Tom Prichard, Tom Prichard & Jimmy Del Ray, they’ve been the best, they’ve been without parallel, nobody can touch them, nobody can stop them, except the Rock & Roll Express. Every time that he got a team that was ready to take the top, the Rock & Rolls were there to take the titles, take the glory, take the attention, to make sure all the fans could come up to him and say your guys are pretty good but the Rock & Rolls are better. He’s done all he can to try and run Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson out of wrestling, they’ve had to endure it all and they never got that last measure of revenge, until now. The Bodies are finished in Smoky Mountain Wrestling and the decision stands. This isn’t the only place they can wrestle, this isn’t the only place they do wrestle, but it’s the only place that they wanted to wrestle because they dominated Smoky Mountain Wrestling, they established Smoky Mountain Wrestling and if it wasn’t for the Heavenly Bodies there wouldn’t be a Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson ruined that, they got their final revenge, after ten years this thing is over and they got what they wanted. Cornette swears that there will be another day, he doesn’t know where and doesn’t know when, but there will be another day between them and the Rock & Roll Express. For the time being you’ve seen the last of Tom Prichard and Jimmy Del Ray and he’s seriously thinking about going with them. Bob Seger’s ‘Famous Final Scene’ starts to play as the Bodies put on their jackets, hug Cornette, collect their bags and walk down the corridor. They take one final look back and then continue down that corridor and out of Smoky Mountain Wrestling.

The whole presentation of this was awesome. From Cornette’s killer must see promo, to the Famous Final Scene, to the last look back and then walking down that corridor. I know they eventually come back, but thank you Heavenly Bodies, it won’t be the same without you.
