Pretty wild brawl, and I could see how some could love it. It has fat guy planchas, and blood, and weapons, and it definitely feels like a war. But something was missing for me, and it's difficult to place it, and I'm not sure what it was, but I didn't care for this in spite of all of that.

The participants are not my cup of tea for sure. One of the Headhunters does hit a pretty decent top rope drop kick. Impressive for a guy that size. Headhunters do a couple impressive looking fat guy stuff but overall this was just there. Dragged a bit at times. Cut a few minutes minutes off and it would be better.

This was totally bizarre. It was definitely a wild brawl and entertaining in parts but it lacked that special feeling that a great match has. The Headhunters athleticism is extremely impressive though and I'll give them that.

Wanted to like this more given it featured some great fat man dives but it lacked a certain amount of intensity and did drag out way too long. More of an interesting spectacle to watch than an overall great match.

A W*ING match (or an IWA match at this point, I guess) in CMLL. Odd. These guys certainly went all-out to have a great match, and their reach probably exceeded their grasp, as this did go on for awhile. You can't fault them for effort, though--the Headhunters' flying bumping is always fun and the Puerto Ricans have a few nifty moves of their own, and some neat double-teams down the stretch. If this had been pruned by 5-10 minutes this really could have been something. As it is, I still liked it fine.

This aired on a really entertaining episode of CMLL with the Jaque Mate/ Solitario title match delivering as well. Interesting booking decision by CMLL, as Santana/Perez win over the crowd and then have to face Los Cowboys in the same night, which oddly enough, is a booking decision criticized years later by whoever wrote that Texano obituary that is posted on Luchawiki (Steve Sims maybe?). I’ve watched this a few times, and I’m still not sure where I would rank this, but I thought it was a good showcase for both teams, and both Perez and Santana looked great in this. The blood gave it the shot in the arm it needed, and structure wise, I thought this was well laid out. Though, as much as I like the Headhunters breaking out the spike to regain control, I didn’t really get the impression that they were out of control or desperate, more that they were sticking to the layout. Whereas Santana and Perez on offense felt more spontaneous and desperate, and both provided a sense of urgency that made this feel important. What made this feel wild to me though, were the dives throughout this had a go for broke feel, and treated as major way to shift the momentum. I didn’t have a problem with the length, as I though it fit the structure. Both Santana and Perez were really good additions to the CMLL roster, and this a good showcase of their versatility. Should be mentioned that Santana always had ridiculously awesome prematch gear in CMLL.

Yeah, the Puerto Rican guys fit into CMLL better than just about any other foreigners. They were also good in early 90s UWA.

I was wondering how their UWA run was. I wasn’t sure if their CMLL stuff was as good as it was because of how long they had been working in Mexico, but it sounds like they didn’t have problems adjusting.
