He invites us to call the Hotline to listen to him rap, which is an infinitely better idea than listening to Gene Okerlund make up things. Kevin Sullivan is the guest, decked out in a suit! He gets personal with Terry and doesn't know how he can get along with a nitwit. He also calls Dory a nitwit, which is likely true. They have a discussion about compassion and its rightful place with regards to Norman, which is oddly compelling. This segment is a wonderful argument. PeteF3 Posted October 31, 2012 Report Share Posted October 31, 2012 Both men make comparisons of Dory Jr. to Norman the Lunatic, which is completely unprecedented and yet both men sound like they make sense. I still don't quite get the underlying cause of the Sullivan/Norman feud, which I suspect is due to Sullivan booking his own angles. And I came out of this anticipating a Sullivan vs. Dory Jr. feud which I don't really think was the goal. That said, I dig Sullivan as a suited, calm, rational guy who happens to be pure evil rather than a cartoonish Gamemaster. I hope there are further Sullivan interviews where he wears a suit and extolls the virtues of Phil Collins and Huey Lewis & the News so that we can continue seeing this dynamic. You associate Funk and SUllivan with chaos and brawling but there was something poignant about them being in suits and having a well thought out discussion. I would not have thought of Funk having his own interview segment. It's not Hearbreak Hotel but he does have some fancy neon lights. Match list seems to indicate more of these to come which is good. Sullivan does try to push buttons a bit with taking shots at Dory. Terry shows some restraint but ends the segment before things go further. Loved the references to Dory Funk Jr possibly being developmentally disabled, which is a pretty good rib. Good segment, looking forward to more Funk's Grills. I loved Sullivan slowly being more and more heelish and making several marked digs at Dory Funk Jr -- which is both odd if he's not going to be part of the feud directly and at the same time absolutely wonderful. Sullivan's stuff on there being no such thing as compassion and Funk making the counterpoints made this a VERY rare interrogation of American right-wing exceptionalism and up-by-the-boot-straps capitalism in wrestling -- in fact it's the only time I've ever seen it done. Sullivan can't actually understand how someone like Terry Funk, or indeed anyone, could have compassion for someone less fortunate than themselves. Interesting clash of ideologies and really has compelled me to want to see how this feud plays out -- hope there's more of it to come. When was the last time he was on NWA/WCW TV at all? I did however enjoy the exchanges between Funk and Sullivan as they are two of my favourite talkers. garretta Posted November 26, 2014 Report Share Posted November 26, 2014 I agree with those who say that there was really no reason to mention Dunk, unless of course he might have been in negotiations to come to the NWA that ultimately went nowhere. I got a kick out of Terry trying to rap at the beginning of the segment, and Sullivan could make the Bible sound evil. Too bad this really didn't go much of anywhere. I'm really hoping each segment is him having rational discussions of philosophical and social issues with the heels of the day. Norman is apparently a favourite of the Funker's. He doesn't approve to some of the things that have been happening to him of late, so has asked Kevin Sullivan to be his guest today. Sullivan turns up and is in a suit!!! He wonders whether Funk has taken Norman under his wing because he is a nitwit and it reminds him of his brother Dory? Sullivan says that he idolizes Funk as he was the most violent wrestler of their era and he's done a lot of things he would be proud to do himself. Funk says that he has, but he's never kicked a dog, beaten a child, taken advantage or destroyed property of a simple person like Sullivan has, before cutting a halt to things.
