The next Lawler/Snowman match will have Kerry Von Erich as referee. Snowman is starting to act more like a babyface. He's an awful promo, but it an odd way, it does make this feel more real. He wants Eddie Marlin to come out, which should be awesome. Marlin says Snowman should be excited about Kerry as referee, considering how much he hates Lawler, and even says if he wins the title, he'll strap the belt on him, because he loves the idea of having a black world champion, and hopes all the black fans in Memphis will fill the Coliseum. They really went all out with this feud!

Snowman cuts a babyface-esque promo semi-apologizing for his debut. He rambles a lot about the poor officiating in the previous matches and complains about Kerry Von Erich being the referee, but then Eddie Marlin comes out to rescue the segment and explains that Kerry hates Lawler as much as Snowman does, and explains what having a black World Champion would do for Memphis' fanbase. Snowman is placated and makes up with Eddie and Dave.

I wonder if they felt they had to tone things down at this point, or if they weren't ready to pull the trigger on a full Lawler babyface turn. I'm really looking forward to how Leon Spinks gets involved but I can't say that I care too much for a babyface Snowman.

And here we go. Snowman's officially a face now, or at least as much of one as he can be, so I smell a replay of the Lawler/Cobra and Lawler/JYD feuds dead ahead. The King will no doubt begin unleashing his stock lines in the next segment, and all pretense of this being anything close to a shoot will be gone. It's a shame. really.

Someone should tell Snowman that you shouldn't tell jokes unless you can do it well; his line about it being humid in Memphis and Dave not giving the weather right became hopelessly snarled between his brain and his mouth and just sort of laid there.

Nice to see peace between Snowman and Eddie Marlin; now maybe we won't see Eddie getting up in people's faces and acting way tougher than he should for his position and age, at least for a while.

Dave Brown announces that Kerry Von Erich will be the special guest referee for this week’s match between Jerry Lawler and The Snowman, although he’s not comfortable with Kerry being the official due to his history with ‘The King’. He asks The Snowman for his comments and The Snowman is almost apologetic for his behaviour these past few weeks, but believes that the only way you can achieve something in life is by going out and taking it (he doesn’t mean robbing something though!). He claims that he has Jerry Lawler beaten both times, and while he lets Jerry Calhoun off, he implies that Lou Winston was paid to make sure that he didn’t win that match. He thinks, that as an official, Lou shouldn’t have hit him and wonders why he was even refereeing a World title match in the first place as he’s never beaten anyone. Snowman then asks Eddie Marlin to come out (presumably to save this segment which is going down the pan fast).

The Snowman says how he doesn’t want these people refereeing his match, but Marlin tells him that in Kerry Von Erich he’s got a man who hates Jerry Lawler just as much as he does, and he should be jumping up and down to have that man in the ring. Marlin says that the only way to win this match is by pinfall, no technical losses, and if The Snowman wins, he’ll get up in that ring and strap the belt around his waist himself. Snowman says that he felt Marlin was bias, but he’s set the record straight just now and the two of them shake hands.

Marlin just about saves this segment as Snowman was bad here. He waffles and doesn’t explain himself clearly at all. After the last few weeks and seeing the presentation of Snowman as this strong heel, it’s weird to see the dynamic change as he’s practically a face here, apologizing for his actions and shaking Eddie Marlin’s hand. Interested to see what happens next as I can’t help but feel this has happened too quickly.
