Jim Herd announces that for Flair vs Sting, the Dudes With Attitudes will surround the ring. Ole Anderson, meanwhile, will be handcuffed to El Gigante. I remember being less excited about this coming up for Flair vs Sting, and wondering why the promotion didn't go to these lengths to give Luger a fair shot at the title.

Somehow the last-minute build to WrestleWar and the less-than-last-minute-but-still-plan-B build to Capital Combat were so much more compelling than this. That said, this was the first time I'd ever seen El Gigante and I have to admit that my mind was utterly blown. Standing silently and pointing his finger was likely his career highlight with me.

Agree that Luger just got pushed aside for this match and it still feels like he didn't get a fair shake. Anybody should have seen by now that El Gigante would not be what they hoped as he is void of any charisma.

Herd to go over the stipulation of the Heavyweight title match. Herd cuts off Ole from talking. The Dudes With Attitudes will be ringside to even out the Horsemen. There is a special stipulation for Ole. First he has been taking off doing any future commentary. Ole will be handcuffed to El Gigante! Ole is not pleased.

Rule number one: When your authority figure is announcing stipulations, don't have the wrestlers you're announcing the stipulations for appear with him. Ole looks like an idiot here, bowing down to Herd in a way not even Jim Crockett Jr. could get the original group to do.

 

Rule number two: Don't have your authority figure make up jobs for your talent that almost every fan knows they don't do, like Ole and commentating. (Actually, I later found out that Ole did do color on Worldwide for a few weeks, but still, it wasn't a regular gig.)

 

Rule number three: While selling shock at the size of a guy like El Gigante is more than acceptable, don't have your top managerial heel act like he's going to urinate in his pants if said top managerial heel was one of the toughest guys in the ring and challenging for the World tag team title two pay-per-views ago.

 

Otherwise, this was peachy keen.

Between Herd and El Gigante this is a rough segment for charisma. Gigante's vacant stare is very funny.

‘Charismatic’ Jim is here to go over the stipulations for the title match on 7/7. He invited all of the Horsemen to join him, but only Ole Anderson showed up. Herd is taking no guff from Ole ‘I invited you here to listen, not to talk’, and says that the ‘Superdudes’ will surround all corners of the ring to negate any interference from the Four Horsemen. In regards to Ole, the fans have been writing in about him ever since Capital Combat, and Herd confirms that due to what happened there, he will never be a commentator on any of their wrestling shows again. Ole accuses him of trying to take his livelihood away from him, but Herd tells him that his livelihood depends on how well he can discipline himself and the Four Horsemen to work within the parameters that World Championship Wrestling sets! The stipulation for Ole is that he’s going to be handcuffed to, at which point Ole interjects and says he couldn’t care who he’s handcuffed to, El Gigante. In walks Gigante and Ole’s attitude quickly changes, he’s not so carefree and happy now!

 

I wasn’t keen on this as it was almost as if Ole was playing it for laughs. This was supposed to be some big announcement, almost stacking the deck against the Horsemen for the match at the Bash, but it didn’t come off or feel that way at all. I guess we can add ‘Superdudes’ to ‘Superheroes’ and ‘Dudes With Attitudes’ now too.
