Loss Posted August 15, 2013 Author Report Share Posted August 15, 2013 Savage strongarms Gene into heading to the ring since he's got something to say. JJ Dillon is out to confront Savage and stop the incessant bullying, but it serves Gene right considering what a shit stirrer he has been for so many years. Savage finally attacks JJ and Bischoff is out immediately to beg Savage to stop. JJ, Savage and Bischoff are all good in this, but this segment was weird. I think they had the idea that they wanted Savage to assault a non-wrestler, but didn't really figure out why they wanted to do that or how it would advance the feud with DDP. I know the next week, Nitro was running really short so they ended up doing a brawl at the finish of the main event that involved almost everyone on the roster in order to fill time. El-P Posted June 16, 2014 Report Share Posted June 16, 2014 I thought Savage was terrific here, and the unscripted nature of the segment really add to the unpredictability. You feel it's organic. Eric Bischoff was tremendous too in how he reacted, trying a prevent a catastrophy with Savage beating up Dillon too bad, yet capitalizing on the incident anyway after because hell, what can he do now ? PeteF3 Posted October 9, 2015 Report Share Posted October 9, 2015 Yeah, if this segment was mostly improv'ed, that actually added to the effect. Savage was terrific here, and it was really rare to see Okerlund so effectively bullied and emasculated. There's no sense of fun Okerlund-heel banter here--you really get the sense that Savage is half a second away from cleaning Mean Gene's clock. Speaking of emasculated, that's still how they're portraying J.J. Dillon, but his line about Savage hiding behind Liz was a good prompt for Randy to deck him.
