I’m not a fan of DX (especially HHH and Shawn) but this was strong TV, with an immediate replacement for Shawn, the shooty comments that would be a staple of the Monday Night Wars, and a guy switching companies. This set up the New Age Outlaws joining DX at the conclusion of the main event cage match. Definite Best RAW candidate.

HHH comes out and says that HBK didn't get the job done. This is one of the better solo HHH promos weve seen although I wouldn't classify it as great. The Kid comes out as the newest member of DX and he has some comments for Hogan and Bischoff. I like Ross's line about him telling the truth so far with Bischoff having his head up Hogan's ass. He then says that Nash and Hall would be here if not held hostage. DX feels rebooted and refreshed after Mania.

Really hot segment with Triple H becoming leader of DX and X-Pac returning to Raw. It was important having someone relevant move from WCW to the WWF to show it wasn't one way traffic. For the first time Triple H didn't look like a flunkie either. At the time I didn't know HBK wasn't coming back, so was wondering what he was going to make of this. I haven't watched this in 16 years but it feels like yesterday.

This struck me as one of the stronger promos of HHH's career. The way he addressed the camera directly in putting HBK behind and beneath him was really effective, immediately making him a bigger figure than he'd ever seemed based on his performance record. The X-Pac stuff was fine, not a bad way to give DX some new flavor and throw shots at WCW. But HHH's opening was the real hook. This made me take him seriously at the time, after I'd long regarded him as a goof.

Yeah, HHH is instantly stronger and more credible than he ever was as Shawn's lapdog, as this is a really good and to-the-point promo with no jokes. All the hype about a "possible rift" in DX would lead you to think it was another swerve based on recent history, but HHH effectively kicks Shawn to the curb and brings out the biggest WCW-to-WWF jump of the Wars to date, and the first "cool" wrestler to jump ship thanks to a major miscalculation by Eric Bischoff. Not-Yet-X-Pac cuts a scorched earth promo on Hogan and Bischoff both and Hollywood's cool factor continues to wane with every passing week. Now his former on-air buddies are even calling him out on *both* shows. DX pretty much babyface themselves through the segment, but I honestly don't know if you could play it any other way.
