[1998-07-27-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan vs DDP

This is a lot different from their 1997 match because DDP actually gets a decent amount of offense. I like that progression. Hogan also has a tendency to look far more credible against Page than he does anyone else for whatever reason. This doesn't go as long as the '97 version either. The NWO run in when Page has the match won before the Wolfpac enter the ring and we have a pier-six brawl. Goldberg comes out to join the fracas (to nowhere near the pop he got earlier before that interview) and clears the ring before Giant attacks him from behind and gives him a chokeslam. I realize he's the world champion now and they have to set up feuds, but I don't think Giant laying him out was wise either. He lost some steam on this particular evening.

My favorite under the radar feud from WCW. I really enjoyed Page's punches and flurries in this match and just how much Hogan wrestled this match as a weasel heel. He did nothing admirable during the whole match which made for an admirable performance in such a quick match. Shout out to him calling Brutus on the outside. NWO run in was going to happen but Page looked strong having the Diamond Cutter on a laid out Hogan in the ring. Wolfpac battles with them and here comes Goldberg to clean house while Nash looks on. I did like Giant chokeslamming him as the show went off the air.

DDP represents no organization, he stands alone, so sayeth Michael Buffer. Does WCW have ANYBODY left? Page bumps well and works hard but this is nowhere near as good as their October '97 match because Hogan has fallen off since then. I don't go into a Hogan match expecting to see a Kawada clone in there, but he's *so* stiff, awkward, and loose at this point that it's actively distracting. Cheap finish and another tepid Wolfpack vs. Hollywood brawl. Goldberg then clears out NWO Hollywood, only to get met with a chokeslam by the Giant. There's no question that's a pretty decent main event or semi-main event match, so I didn't have a problem with Giant getting some heat on him. It may have worked better if Nitro had gone off the air with Goldberg still hanging in Giant's grip.
