[1999-09-09-WWF-Smackdown] The Rock & Mankind vs The Undertaker & Big Show (Buried Alive)

JIP. Foley takes a big bump from the entrance to the pile of dirt. HHH interferes and attacks Big Show and opts to bury Mankind alive himself. Undertaker and Show win the tag titles even though HHH did the work. Kind of a lame ending to the match. An ambulance pulls up, and Austin jumps out (with entrance music, of course) and attacks HHH. They brawl all over the dirt. He ends up loading HHH in the ambulance then running over it with a diesel. Too over the top.

Just watched this for the 2nd time and loved it. It's crazy as shit. A lot of it doesn't make total sense. But it's so fucking fun and discombobulated. Foley's bump on the dirt is legitimately the most honestly painful looking bump in wrestling history. Just nasty.

Foley's bump might be more insane than the hell in a cell bump. He goes from the stage, bounces on the grass hill and lands in the grave. That couldn't have felt good at all. Lots going on here. Taker/Rock are fighting backstage and HHH attacks Rock. Kane makes the save and then CHYNA goes after Kane. The finish made no sense but this was a crazy entertaining brawl. Made Smackdown look like a big deal. Plus we get where the famous HHH burred gif comes from.

Actually, when asked about this match, Foley said that bump didn't hurt at all. Something about the way he was rolling and bouncing, he just happened to have enough horizontal momentum that the impact was more sideways than straight down.

Yes, but Austin's knees were shot, so they were in a holding pattern for the next PPV. So we get this clusterfuck--we open with Mankind taking a loony bump from the stage to the plot, but I didn't much care for this, between all the shit going on backstage and the constant run-ins during and after the match. The sledgehammer to the back of Big Show's head is just absurd, but he and Undertaker are champions again even though Undertaker can't wrestle, either. Austin's return is a nice holy-shit surprise, though, since he hadn't been seen on TV except for a taped sitdown interview since SummerSlam. This would have had so much more effect, though, if we'd just gone off the air with Austin kicking Triple H's ass instead of the big stunt show we actually closed with.
