ICW Champion Low-Ki vs Amazing Red - ICW 9/14/01

Just three days after 9/11 in NYC, this match takes place, which is just very strange to think about. AWESOME OPENING SEQUENCE! HOLY SHIT! It was like an action movie sequence come to life. I loved how explosive and quick it was. Low Ki looked like he was going to stomp the hell out of Red, but the kid was too quick and evasive. Once he caught with that kick , Red sold and bumped his ass of and Low Ki beat the living shit out of him. Really strong opening. Liked Red's comeback starting with a tornado DDT, good impact and Red had some nice punches and chops. For an Indy Rey Rey, Red was pretty good. DragonRana by Red gets a Holy Shit chant as it deserves. Red hits Infra-Red off the top but basically lands flush on Low-Ki's hard head and sells his own leg. Nice use of rope breaks on these big falls like the Infra-Red and Ki Krusher, way to protect the finish. Really contrived ending with Low Ki taking forever to set up the Ki Krusher from the top rope for the win. Highly recommended to watch for the first 5-6 minutes. ***1/2

Watched this for the Secret Santo project. It's amazing that this took place in New York so soon after 9/11.I thought everything in town was shut down. Anyways, Low Ki comes out with the American Flag looking like UnderTaker when he was announced as a partner on Lex Luger's Survivor series team. They start off quick right off the bat. I's amazing seeing Low Ki able to adapt to whatever opponent he's in with. Rather it be a brawl with Homicide, a indie match with Billy Reil or a high flying affair with Red. Red is so fluid with his moves especially that ddt. The thing I notice about these early Low Ki matches is how hard a time he has in hitting the Ki Krusher. It takes a while but he hits a good on off the top on Red. I was afraid Red was going to kick out to make it real indie but he doesn't so that's good. Really enjoyed this match.

Great match in their signature style. Excellent mix of lightning fast intricate counters and evading, crazy moves and stiff blows. It's highly athletic, spectacular wrestling, but they have a great sense for momentum shifts. You also get stuff like Ki obliterating Red with the koppu kick which is ballsier than what most spot monkeys do. Red looks like the greatest Elks Lodge kid wrestler ever. The insane handspring spin kick moves look hurty and they always make sense in the context of what's happening. They basically never let up. Great finish where they tease another reversal with Red escaping but Ki holds on and drops him anyways. US MOTY?
