Flair's podcast (WOOOOONation)

Recommended Posts

Episode 1 is apparently set to drop today. I will be listening every episode. Even if it is a trainwreck, he's literally worked with them all, so who knows what stuff may come up. That makes it "must-listen" to me, much more than all the other wrestler pods out there. Ric has some interesting opinions about working style and psychology too. If he's in the right mood, he can have a lot to say. Let's hope we get good Ric and not Legends of Wrestling Ric.

But I'm excited.

EDIT: here it is ...

I respectfully disagree Steven.

I enjoyed the 13-hour High Spots. I thought he was great on Austin. I thought he was good in the joint shoot with Terry Funk.

Horrible on Legends of Wrestling roundtables.

But y'know, I'm a Flair guy. You're not a Flair guy. Leave the Flair guys listen to Flair's shows.

Flair probably fucking loves Angle as a wrestler. Angle's actually a good example of what Flair might have been without his preternatural instincts and ability to both read a crowd and (more importantly) define a crowd's expectations

I'm really curious about this. I haven't listened to or seen a lot of his shoots or interviews, but I was always left with the impression that Flair had trouble expressing how or why he did things. Looking forward to hearing his thoughts.

The Angle episode was mostly a mutual slurpfest that went nowhere, but the Meltzer episode turned out really well. I thought I was going to drive into a ditch when I heard Flair say that the only two reporters that have credibility in the wrestling business were Meltzer and Mark Madden (?!?!) but, other than that and Meltzer's awful sound quality, it was well worth the listen. There are some friendly little jabs at Bret Hart and Wade Keller too, which I know some folks will enjoy.

If anything, it reminded me of how much I wish Dave would do a podcast without Bryan Alvarez, but that's a topic for another thread.

Madden is a Flair guy. Ghost wrote his book, even.

I really enjoyed the looseness of the Meltzer episode as well. I was a bit leery of a Flair podcast, but he was really playful, charismatic, and energetic as host. All the interviews I'd heard in the past of Flair on a podcast, he was very dull & monotone so I wasn't sure how this would go. Listening to him with Dave I can totally see how Flair would be "charming" in person as Dave always referred to him. I thought it was funny how Flair was trying to straddle the line at times between trying to be humble and downplaying the praise of him and at other times admitting "yeah I am the greatest, aren't I?".

Not sure I would have time to listen to more of these, but I might depending on the guest.

The Bret podcast was really good. The two have patched up but the conversation was fun. Conrad asked Bret some tough questions like his thoughts on the Owen DVD and about Hulk Hogan. Flair seems to have gotten into a good groove and some of the questions are tougher and timely. Bret said he had no issue with the DVD and implied Martha was the only one still holding a grudge. Bret called Hogan a dirtbag and said Hogan wasn't trustworthy.

Best Flair podcast yet!!

Conrad and Flair make a good team. Conrad asks the fans questions we want asked. He can also deflect some of the heat off of Flair . I met Flair at a signing a few months back and talked to him for about 5 minutes and he was just like he is on the podcast.
