SEGMENT #1: THIS WEEK IN THE CWA BY DAVE BROWN

· MATCH OF THE WEEK: AWA SOUTHERN TAG TITLE:

Rock n Roll Express vs The Sheepherders.

The Sheepherders have been getting closer and closer to defeating the champions over the past few weeks. Well this time, the Sheepherders defeated the Rock n Roll Express to become the new champions. Luke Williams and Butch Miller were especially brutal in this match and it was this viciousness that put them over the top. The end came when Morton was thrown to the ring floor and appeared to injure his leg. Williams then draped Morton’s leg across the stairs to the ring as Miller leaped from the apron. Many who were ringside said they heard the leg snap as it appeared Morton broke his leg. The Sheepherders rolled him back into the ring for the easy cover and they are the new AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion. For this victory, the Sheepherders also claim this week’s honor of Tag Team of the Week.

· TAG TEAM OF THE WEEK: The Sheepherders

· WRESTLER OF THE WEEK: MR. USA TONY ATLAS

With a win over Butch Reed this past Monday, Tony Atlas became the new NWA Mid-American Champion

· OTHER NOTES:

The Kansas Jayhawks lost their NWA Mid-American Tag Team Championship to Mark and Jay Youngblood. After the match, the Youngbloods said they have other NWA commitments in the St. Louis area and will be out of the area for a while. It seems the CWA has lost a tag team title as the Youngbloods left with their new belts. They did give the fans some hope as they said they will be fighting champions and will be back from time to time.

SEGMENT #2

MATCH: Plowboy Frazier vs Ken Raper

Frazier, accompanied to the ring with the two huge men that we saw at the Mid-South Coliseum this past Monday, easily wins this squash match with a Big Splash at 4:47.

After the match Frazier and the two monsters go to the interview table where Lance Russell asks Plowboy Frazier who these two guys are and about his match with Sir Oliver Humperdink last Monday Night. Frazier begins by saying that there are two things you aught ta know about people who grow up out in the country. The first is that sometimes they rush into things and don’t think about the consequences and this is exactly what he did when asking Jerry Jarett to make his match against Sir Oliver Humperdink a No DQ match. He wanted revenge on Humperdink so bad that he only thought about how this type of match could benefit him and not how Humperdink would use it to his advantage and attack him with all the members of his stable. The second thing you aught ta know about country folk is that you can always count on family and these two fellas with me today are family. He points to one and introduces him as his cousin from Kentucky, Hillbilly Jim. He then points to the other and introduces him as his Big Cousin, Bubba, who, like himself is from Pascagoula, Mississippi. He thanks both of them for their help the other night against the House of Humperdink. Hillbilly Jim and Cousin Bubba say how family is family and that they always got each other’s back. They then turn their attention to the House of Humperdink and say how much fun it is going to be to put these fellas in their place. Lance Russell is still in awe of the size of these guys and says that for once, Humperdink better watch his back!

SEGMENT #3:

MATCH: Jimmy Valiant and Troy Graham vs The Nightmares

The fans went wild as they heard the first cord of “The Boy from New York City” blare through the speakers. Unless they were at the Mid-South Coliseum last Monday night, they did not know the Valiant was back in the area. They were also surprised when his partner was introduced as Troy Graham but he came out as The Dream Machine. The match was a fast past match that saw the Nightmares try to turn the tide with some dirty tactics. Valiant and Troy Graham finally had enough and started throwing some wild haymakers of their own. The end came when Jimmy Valiant caught Nightmare #1 with a diving elbow drop which got him the pin at 5:56.

After the match, Valiant and The Dream Machine went to the interview desk. Lance welcomed Valiant back to the area before he asked him the question that was on everyone’s mind. “Was that you as the Dream Machine All Along” or was that the first time last Monday Night. Valiant, as only Valiant good started talking in a wild manner. He said a lot of things but never answered the question. His basic answer was the every night in Memphis is a dream and he loves to be the machine! Russell then turned to Troy Graham and asked why he was now in the mask of the Dream machine but last Monday Night, it was Valiant under the mask. Graham responded by saying as a goof and to make Ernie Ladd angry, he bought the mask off of Valiant for $1 and that now he could be the Dream Machine anytime he wanted.

Ernie Ladd came out to the set and started screaming how Valiant and Graham were cheaters and that he was not going to let them get away with. Graham and Valiant started to laugh which further infuriated Ladd. It looked like Ladd was about to attack them 1 on 2 until at the last second, Hacksaw Reed came out. Again, unless the fans were at the Coliseum, they thought Reed was with Ladd. Ladd immediately backed away as Reed started pushing him and screaming that he has no right to call anyone a cheat after what he has done. Reed pushes Ladd so hard that he stumbles to the ground. The crowd is going wild as Ladd basically scurries to the locker room as the other 3 embrace.

SEGMENT #4:

MATCH: The Ft Bragg Brotherhood (Sgt. Slaughter, Cpl. Kirchner and Pvt. Kernodle vs David Johnson, Steve Simpson and Tommy Gilbert

The crowd went wild as Dave Brown announced Sgt. Slaughter. The match showcases all the talent of the fan favorites and to the delight of the fans, the end came after Sarge strapped in the Cobra Clutch on Tommy Gilbert and 5:01. The victors went to the interview desk where Gordon Solie asked Kernodle and Kirchner how they were able to get Sgt. Slaughter to team with them for their recent match with Tojo Yamamoto, Mr. Saito and Killer Khan. Kernodle and Kirchner said that they knew Sarge this their military days and that when Slaughter heard they were having trouble with The Shogunate him came running. Sgt. took the mic and said that any day these “maggots” want more, he will be ready and able. He said he was sick and tired on these people coming to America, taking our money and then bad mouthing this great country. The fans went wild after these words. Slaughter then took an American Flag and ran into the ring waving it proudly. Kernodle, Kirchner and many of the fans saluted Sarge and they hope he will be around more often. 1JnYr56.jpg?1

SEGMENT #5:

Match: House of Humperdink Challenge: Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez vs Sweet Brown Sugar and Bam Bam Bigelow

If Sweet Brown Sugar and Bam Bam Bigelow can last 10 minutes, they will get $10,000 of Sir Oliver Humperdink’s money. Two minutes into the match, it’s obvious that there is no chance that this will happen. Sawyer and Hernandez are just toying with their opponents. Bam Bam Bigelow has a brief moment when he goes on the attack but Sawyer thrusts a knee into his solar plexus. From there, it is just one big beating. The end comes when Sawyer hits a Frog Splash on Sweet Brown Sugar at 4:02.

The House of Humperdink goes to the interview desk, where Humperdink insults the intelligence of Jerry Jarrett and wonders why his men are not receiving any championship matches. When Lance Russell brings up Plowboy Frazier and his relatives, Humperdink goes wild and says that they are nothing but country bumpkins and why should his men have to waste their time with bums like that? Russell asks Humperdink if he is not just ducking these huge men and maybe he is a little frightened about what the outcome might be. This really sets Humperdink off and he threatens to have his men beat Russell and that he better watch his mouth. The House of Humperdink storms off set.

Segment #6

Match: Mr. Saito vs Wendell Cooley

The match was very one-sided as Mr. Saito’s experience had the youngster chasing his own tail. The match came to an end after some huge chops by Saito were ollowed up by a Saito Suplex at 4:21.

After the match. Mr. Saito was joined by Tojo Yamamoto and Killer Khan at the interview desk where Lance Russell asked them about Sgt. Slaughter and how he helped the Ft. Bragg Brotherhood at the Mid-South Coliseum. Tojo started to talk and he was very deliberate in his message. “Mistah Sgt. Slaaaauuuuughhhter. You are typical American with no guts. You sneak attack me and my men like gutless American. You are coward like the rest of this disgusting country.”

From out of nowhere comes Sgt. Slaughter, Cpl. Kirchner and Pvt. Kernodle. The fight is on as the 6 men really go after each other. Lance Russell is asking for help from the back but only a few officials show up and they are useless. This melee continues on and on but nobody seems to take the upper hand. Eventually, wrestlers from the back pour out and restore order.

Sgt. Slaughter once again grabs the microphone and challenges the “maggots” to a match anytime and anyplace and that he will not stand for people insulting America while he is around.

COMMERCIAL PLAYS FOR JERRY LAWLER’S NEW RESTAURANT

SEGMENT #7

Main Event Match: Jerry “The King” Lawler vs The Spoiler

A great match for TV that showed Lawler start quick but the Spoiler was able to gain control after an eye rake. He then proceeded to walk the top rope while controlling Lawler with an armbar. From there, the Spoiler leaped off the rope and connected with a big elbow. Lawler was in more trouble as The Spoiler was able to capture Lawler in a Brain Claw. Lawler refused to give up and resorted to breaking the rules himself with an eye rake. The two began to brawl but this time Lawler gained the advantage. After working over the Spoiler for a few minutes, he had him primed for his top rope fist drop. As Lawler climbed to the top rope, Dirty Dutch Mantel and Bobby Jaggers hit the ring and shoved him to the mat. From here they whipped him with their bull ropes. With each crack of the whip, Lawler let out a scream of agony. Lawler was beaten for a good 5 minute with no aid coming for him. The Kansas Jayhawks left him lying in the middle of the ring as they headed to the interview desk. Before they got their they were joined by a very well dressed, tanned man in sunglasses and the CWA Champion, Austin Idol who had part of his face bandaged. This injury to Idol was most likely the result of the fireball that Lawler threw at him last week.

Lance Russell asked Idol what this is all about. Idol responds that after last week when Jerry Lawler threw a fire ball at his face and caused 2nd degree burns that he knew that Lawler was sick and that he had to protect himself. He said that he is the face of the CWA and that if Jerry Jarrett wasn’t going to protect him, then he would protect himself. Idol went on to say that the sharp dressed man is his new manager, Rock Riddle and that Riddle will manage both his professional life and his finances. Idol continued to say that he has hired The Kansas Jayhawks to be his personal security team. Dutch Mantell and Bobby Jaggers will continue to wrestle but they will also be at the side of Austin Idol whenever he is in a potentially dangerous situation.

DLYLx52.jpg?1

Rock Riddle takes the microphone as says that he is the original “Mr. Wonderful” and that anything he has ever touched has turned to gold. He knows Idol is a wonderful wrestle but he has been cast into the shadows of Lawler here in Memphis. He announces that he will change that. If Idol pays attention to what he has to say, his life will be more fabulous then one can imagine. Riddle points to the ring where Lawler is still struggling to get to his feet. Riddle tells Idol that Lawler will never be able to get to him again. Riddle promises Idol that between the Kansas Jayhawks and himself, Idol is in a perfect place. He also tells the Jayhawks that he will help guide them to the world tag team championship. To the fans, Riddle gives off an air of arrogance and seems like a slimy used car salesmen but Idol seems all in.

Lance Russell says that Idol is going all out to protect himself and that maybe Lawler crossed the line with the fireball. While all of this was going, Lawler had only managed to get to his knees in the squared circle.

SEGMENT 8: THE FIRST EPISODE OF PIPER’S PIT

EryMgg8.jpg?1

Just off to the right of Lance Russell and Dave Brown another area is set up for what looks like an interview. The set is red with two huge pictures of Roddy Pipper and what one would guess would be his family crest. Roddy Piper makes his way out to the set and sits in one of the two chairs that are there. The Sheepherders follow Piper out and stand behind him with their arms folded.

Piper welcomes all the fans to the first ever Piper’s Pit and announces that his first guest will be Superstar Bill Dundee. The crowd goes wild as Dundee cautiously makes his way to the set. Piper extends a hand but Dundee refuses. Piper shrugs it off and asks Dundee to sit. Dundee, starring at the Sheepherders, carefully takes a seat. The interview starts with Piper actually complimenting him for such a tough match last Monday. Dundee responses by saying if it was not for Piper’s dirt bag of a manager, JR Foley, and Piper using a low blow, that he would be the AWA Southern Champion right now. Piper again shrugs off Dundee’s comment and moves on to the next question. He asks Dundee about why a man from Australia, a country that is a member of the British Commonwealth, stomachs these stupid fans and these ignorant Americans. Dundee yells at Piper and calls him classless. This time instead of shrugging it off, Piper goes back at Dundee. He yells at Dundee saying he is anything but classless. Just look at all the attention he is given to Dundee. Piper asks Dundee how he could call him classless when he gives “little” people like him title shots and TV interviews. Dundee gets out of his chair and asks Piper if he is calling him little? Piper yells at Dundee that even his ears must be small if he didn’t hear him. Piper goes on to say that Dundee has a great chance at becoming a World Champion but that he just must be honest with himself first and go into MIDGET wrestling. This sets Dundee off and he shoves Piper.

The Sheepherders quickly go on the attack and beat Dundee to a bloody mess. He is so bloody, the station has censored his face. Piper proceeds to put him in the Figure 4. While Dundee is screaming in agony, Butch Miller and Luke Williams take the metal chairs and start hitting him in the legs with it. These might be two broken legs by the Sheepherders in the last week.

Lance Russell is yelling for Piper to stop and for help to get out here. With Lawler hurt in the last segment, there is nobody coming to Dundee’s aid.

The beating continues as the credits roll.

The screen fades to black.

SEGMENT #1: INTRODUCTION TO THE USWA

Lance Russell and Gordon Solie welcome fans on WTBS to the first ever nationally televised episode of UNITED STATES WRESTLING ASSOCIATION. They continue to explain that this great show came to be after a partnership between Jerry Jarrett and Ted Turner was formed. As part of the deal, The USWA is a combination of the old CWA and Georgia Championship Wrestling. They explain that Memphis and Atlanta will be the centers of the promotion and that the Mid-South Coliseum and The Omni will be host to a majority of the major events but fans could expect to see great shows wherever the USWA goes. The USWA will alternate where it is tapped from between Memphis and Atlanta and that the USWA will have two weekly shows that air on WTBS. One show will air on Saturdays at 6:05-8:05 while the other show will air on Sunday from 5:05-6:05. Their will also be monthly Super Cards to air on either Sundays or Mondays on WTBS. Solie said that Turner hopes to turn WTBS into the “Wrestling Mecca of the Television World and bring the USWA right to the top.” Russell says that whatever Turner has touched so far has turned to gold so the USWA seems like the place to be.

They also explain the title structure here in the USWA and the current champs which in most places have carried over from the CWA Roll Call of Champions.

USWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Austin Idol

USWA NATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: Tony Atlas

USWA SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: Roddy Piper

USWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: Vacant

USWA SOUTHERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: The Sheepherders

Lance and Gordon rap of the first segment by reminding fans of the great event at the Mid-South Coliseum last Monday night and that in fact this was the first USWA Wrestling Event in history. They explain that it was billed as a CWA event only because the contract talks between Jarrett and Turner had not yet been finalized. They also told fans to hold on to their seats as this was going to be a wild ride and it would be thrilling to bring the great wrestlers of the USWA into the homes of the entire country.

SEGMENT #2

Match: Hacksaw Butch Reed vs Porkchop Cash

Reed wins a really tough match against one of Ernie Ladd’s goons. The end came after many momentum changes when Reed connected with a Gorilla Press Slam on Cash which lead to the pin at 9:15. The fans are excited and hope these type of matches will be the norm on USWA Wrestling!

After the match, Reed goes to the interview table where Lance Russell and Gordon Solie ask him to take a look at his match with Tony Atlas from last Monday night where he lost his title. The video shows Ernie Ladd, who he thought was on his side, hit him with a “Big Boot” which allowed Atlas to get the pin. Then Ladd turned on Reed and attacked him only to have Atlas come to Reed’s aid. Reed and Atlas shook hands at the end.

The first thing Reed asked for was Tony Atlas to come out to the interview desk which he did. The crowd roared as Atlas carried out the new UWSW National Title. Reed began by saying he was sorry to all the fans and to Tony for his actions since arriving in Memphis. He said he made a huge mistake trusting Ladd about what he said about how racist the people here were and that Atlas was only an Uncle Tom. Reed finished by saying that he would now focus on ending the career of Ladd so that he could not hurt anyone else. He also told Atlas that he had his back and that he owed him one. Atlas again shook hands with him and told him that together, they would rid the USWA of Ernie Ladd.

Next, Sir Oliver Humperdink and his stable known as the House of Humperdink come out to the interview desk. Humperdink begins by insulting Lance Russell and calling him “Pencil Nose.” He goes on to say that he hopes Ted Turner will be more fair because Jerry Jarrett is a cheat and has not given his men, Buzz Sawyer, Hercules Hernandez and the big Russian, Korstia Korchenko even a sniff of a title shot. According to Humperdink, his men are the toughest in all of the USWA. Lance Russell reminds him of his recent troubles with Plowboy Frazier and his relatives, Hillbilly Jim and Big Bubba. Humperdink again tells Russell to shut up and Gordon Solie tells Humperdink “that will be enough of that.”

SEGMENT #3:

MATCH: Pvt. Kernodle and Sgt. Slaughter vs The Nightmares

The match showcases all the talent of the fan favorites and to the delight of the fans, the end came after Sarge strapped in the Cobra Clutch on Nightmare #1 at 10:01.

The victors and Kernodle’s regular partner, Cpl. Kirchner, went to the interview desk but before they got their they were attacked by the Shogunate; Tojo Yamamoto, Killer Khan and Mr. Saito. To the delight of the fans, the Ft. Bragg Brotherhood gained the upper hand in this doonybrook and the Shogunate hightailed it back to the locker rom. Sgt. Slaughter took the mic and said that any day these “maggots” want more, he will be ready and able.

SEGMENT #4: PIPER’S PIT WITH JERRY LAWLER AS THE SPECIAL GUEST!

X7wOsUvs.jpg?1

Piper, with the Sheepherders behind him, welcomes all the fans to Piper’s Pit. He announces that his guest will be none other than Jerry “he King” Lawler. As the fans go wild, Lawler cautiously comes out. Piper offers him a hand shake but Lawler responds by saying that he will not fall for any of Piper’s tricks and let’s just get this over with. Piper actually congratulates Lawler for his match last Monday against Austin Idol when Lawler hit Idol with a fireball and was disqualified. Lawler asks what type of game Piper is playing. Piper says “No game. Piper said that up until last Monday, Piper thought that he was the most dirty wrestler in all of the USWA but now after Lawler tried to permanently blind Idol, it was obvious that Lawler was by far the dirties player in the game.

Lawler told Piper to shut up and move on to the next topic. Piper seemed happy to do just that. Piper asked Lawler to watch the video screen which showed a commercial for Lawler’s new restaurant, SLAMBURGERS!

g68casq.png?1

When the video stops, Piper praises Lawler for forward thinking and that he gives Lawler credit for recognizing that he is on the downside of his wrestling career and that a short order cook would be a good second career. Lawler is really boiling now and starts to go back at Piper questioning why he wears a skirt if he is such a tough guy. Piper warns Lawler to careful and reminds him that there may not be many people who have his back anymore. He reminds him of the injuries to the Rock n Roll Express and Superstar Bill Dundee. Lawler is really fuming now and blames Piper and the Sheepherders for these injuries. The Sheepherders now move in closer as Piper starts to recite Humpty Dumpty and really stresses the part where “All the Kings Horses and All the King’s Men Couldn’t Put Jerry Lawler Together Again.”

The Sheepherders close in on Lawler and are ready to attack when Piper asks Lawler how it feels to be all alone. Lawler just smiles and warns Piper and the Sheepherders to back up if they know what is good for them. Piper just laughs as they get ready to attack!

From out of nowhere comes Tommy “Wildfire” Rich, Steve Keirn and Stan Lane (The Fabulous Ones)

6LbZsv0.jpg?1 Vu5JH6Y.jpg?1

Together with Lawler, they just beat the hell out of Piper and the Sheepherders. There is total chaos as the top 7 wrestlers in the USWA are brawling all over the studio.

Gordon Solie is heard saying “Wait a minute, Wait a minute! A pier 6 brawl has broken out.” And we really need some help out here to get order restored.”

USWA says So long from Memphis, Tennessee.

The Credits roll while the chaos continues. The screen fades to black.

Match: Ernie Ladd vs Sweet Brown Sugar

A great match for TV. The fans were really behind Sweet Brown Sugar and his quickness and athleticism were causing Ladd some difficulties. Ladd threw Sugar into ref Paul Morton. As Sugar went to check on the ref, Ladd bounced off the ropes and hit his opponent with a Big Boot. This was all she wrote. Just as Morton was regaining his footing, Ladd covered Sweet Brown Sugar for the pin at 9:54.

Ernie Ladd went to the interview desk where both Solie and Russell admonished Ladd for intentionally pushing Sweet Brown Sugar into the ref. Ladd, as you would expect, starting yelling at both announcers and called them liars. Ladd continued to discuss the match and said that he did not understand why he had to wrestle people like Sweet Brown Sugar as his is clearly not in his league. Solie changed the direction of the interview by bringing up former Ladd’s Army member, Butch Reed. Ladd now really went off. He said he made Reed and the Reed owes him everything that he has in the world of wrestling. He continues by saying that Reed is ungrateful and selfish and that he will get his! Gordon Solie ends the interview with his sarcastic “fair enough!”

MATCH: House of Humperdink Challenge: Hercules Hernandez vs Steve Simpson

If Simpson can last 5 minutes, he will earn $5000 of Sir Oliver Humperdink’s money. Steve Simpson gets some praise from Gordon Solie as he calls this rookie “double tough.” As the match begins, it is obvious that these two wrestlers are in tremendous shape but as the match progresses forward, it is also evident that Simpson can’t yet hold his own against Hercules. The end comes at 4:01 as Hercules puts Simpson in the Backbreaker Rack forcing the submission. Hercules refuses to break the hold long after the ref has called for the bell and is just punishing this rookie. The crowd begins to cheer as you here Solie say, “and it looks like…. Yes. It is indeed Plowboy Frazier, Hillbilly Jim and Big Bubba rushing to the ring.” Solie continues by saying “Humperdink and Hernandez decide discretion is the better part of valor” as they scamper from the ring to the locker rom.

Plowboy and his relatives head to the interview desk where they say they will not stand for any more wrestlers being wronged from the House of Humperdink. They also ask Jerry Jarrett to sanction a 6 man tag match at “The First Battle of Atlanta”

Match: The Fabulous Ones vs The Nightmares

The fans go wild as they are so excited to have the Fab Ones back in town. They come out to ZZ Top and “Sharpe Dressed Man.” They are dressed in partial tuxedos and perform a partial strip tease as the young ladies in the audience go crazy. As for the match, it is high energy all the way. Both teams perform some great double team moves and there are a few momentum changes. It looked like the Nightmares might pull off the upset as Nightmare #2 went for a Frog Splash off the top rope, but Stan Lane rolled out of the way at the last second. He followed that up with a quick tag to Keirn who hooked in the inverted Boston Crab which caused the tap out at 7:54.

The Fabulous Ones go to the interview desk where they are welcomed back to the area by Solie and Russell. Both Keirn and Lane express excitement to be in the USWA and they know there are many great team here including the Sheepherders but they have one goal; to be the first ever USWA World Tag Team Champions.

Piper calls out Tojo Yamamoto who walks slowly onto the set and the two embrace. Piper expresses relief that he finally has a guest who feels the same about these lazy Americans and that he hopes that together, The British Commonwealth and The Shogunate can put these USWA rednecks like Jerry Lawler and Tommy Rich in their place.

Tojo Yamamoto begins by saying “Mis-tah Piper, I am honered to be here with you today. I often have heavy heart when I come to work. I feel soooorry for these poor Americans. They looked up to fools like Laaawler and Toooommmy Rich. They also salute the stuuupid flag that Saaaargent Slaaaghter brings to the ring. That is the flag of losers.

Piper is really loving this as the fans begin to boo and throw things towards the set. Piper takes this chance to agree with Yamamoto and states that it is this actions that show how little class Americans to have. Yamamoto calls out his men, Mr. Saito and Killer Khan who come out to the set with a box. Yamamoto says, Mis-tah Piper, I want to give you gift. Please open and see what we have made for you.

Piper opens the box and sees an American Flag and seems confused. He says, Mr. Yamamoto, I am unsure what I am to do with this. It is a flag of a country that I thought we were both against.

Tojo smiles and says please tag flag out of box. Piper obliges and asks the Sheepherders to unravel the giant American flag. As they unravel it, they all begin to smile. They hold up the flag and show it to the camera. It is a normal American flag but across the top of the stars are the letters RIP. The first star has the name Bill Dundee written on it while the next two stars have the names Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson.

Tojo says, Evveeeeery time we hurt an American, we place his name on a star. Together, Mis-tah Piper, we fill up the flag with injured Americans and make the world a better place. Piper smiles and says he knows the perfect place for the flag. He drapes it over his set for everyone to see. Piper and Tojo now bow to each other and seem like they now have a goal in place to hurt Americans. Piper wishes Mr. Saito luck in his match against USWA National Champion Tony Atlas which is coming up after this commercial break.

Match: USWA NATIONAL CHAMPION Tony Atlas vs Mr. Saito with Tojo Yamamoto

The match is really back and forth and the crowd is getting nervous that Tony Atlas could lose the National Championship to someone who is Anti-American. Every time it looks like Atlas can get some momentum going, Tojo distracts the ref and Saito turns to some dirty tactic to keep Atlas down. Gordon Solie is really upset by Saito’s tactics and also that Tojo is even at ringside. Tojo recently surrendered his managerial license to once again become a full time wrestler and Solie makes the point that he should not even be at ringside. The crowd begins to go wild as Solie is heard saying, “Indeed, Indeed, it is Hacksaw Reed coming to ringside. Reed goes right after Tojo and the two start to fight outside the ring. This gives Atlas a chance to control the tempo in the ring. Finally after a few minutes with the advantage, Atlas catches Saito in the Gorilla Press Slam for the pin at 12:02.

Atlas and Reed head to the interview desk where Atlas thanks Reed for his help and Hacksaw said he owed Atlas one and that he will continue to have his back. They also say how excited they are to be each other’ tag partners in the upcoming USWA World Tag Team Tournament and that they will work together to rid the USWA of people like Ernie Ladd and Tojo Yamamoto.

Match: Pvt. Kernodle vs Dirty Dutch Mantell with Rock Riddle

These two have been mainly tag team wrestlers of late but tonight they are going it alone. Dutch plays hard to get in the beginning of the match but this was only to get Kernodle to lose his focus. Kernodle rushed in only to be caught by a knee to the gut. Rock Riddle did his best to distract the ref which gave Mantell more chances to play dirty. Kernodle turned the momentum his way and looked like he might gain the victory after a reverse neckbreaker but that’s when Bobby Jaggers hit the ring with his bull rope and tried to whip Kernodle. Kernodle rolled away in the nick of time and that’s when Cpl. Kirchner joined him in the ring and challenged the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks, under the direction of Rock Riddle, head to the back to fight another day. Kernodle was the winner by disqualification but he is really hot.

The Fort Bragg Brotherhood, who were joined by Sgt. Slaughter, headed to the interview desk where both Solie and Russell asked them what that was all about and how they plan on dealing with Tojo Yamamoto, Mr. Saito and Killer Khan. As you would expect, Kernodle was all fired up and said he had no idea why Jaggers entered the ring but if they want a fight, he is willing to meet them. Slaughter said the same about those “maggots from Japan” and said that he wants a “Boot Camp” match with them if they are man enough to accept.

Match: MAIN EVENT: Jerry Lawler & Tommy Rich vs Austin Idol with Rock Riddle & Roddy Piper with JR Foley

Again, the USWA continues to change what wrestling on TV is all about. This is not your typical 1984 wrestling show when the star gets to beat on the sucker of the day. This match pits the 4 biggest stars in the USWA, including the USWA World Heavyweight Champion, Austin Idol, in a first round match to advance in the USWA Tournament and add to that these 4 hate each, this is going to be really special. Gordon Solie begins by saying, “Katie bar the door, indeed, this is going to be something special.” Gordon Solie could not have been more right. This match had it all. From momentum changes to managers trying to get involved to all 4 men in the ring at the same time with Lance Russell saying, “You cannot believe the mayhem. The fans were at the edge of their seats but things looked bleak as Idol was strapped in the Figure 4 on Lawler with Rich and Piper battling on the outside. Lawler just refused to give in and dragged himself to the ropes forcing the break but the King had trouble getting to his feet. All 4 were now back in the ring with both Riddle and Foley on the apron. Idol and Piper were about to whip Lawler and Rich into the boots of their managers who had them draped over the ropes. Lawler and Rich reversed the Irish Whips causing Idol and Piper to crash into their managers, Lawler and Rich both elbowed Piper in the head causing him to fall through the middle rope and out on to the floor. Lawler then whipped Idol into the ropes as Rich connected with a Lou Thesz Press for the pin. Both Riddle and Foley are screaming about the double team move and that Idol was not even the legal man in the ring but the ref will hear nothing of it.

The Sheepherders rush out to the aid of Idol and Piper but before they can get to the ring, Reed and Atlas join Rich and Lawler in the ring. The crowd goes wild as for the first time in a while in these parts, Gordon Solie says “No question about it, the good guys are in control. So long from Atlanta, Georgia.

“Yello again everybody. Welcome to USWA Wrestling here on WTBS. I am Lance Russell along with Gordon Solie. We have a jam packed show tonight so let’s get right to our first match.”

Match: Bam Bam Bigelow and Shane Douglas vs Ken Raper and David Johnson

In a rare TV appearance for these rookies, they actually look pretty good. The match ends after a powerslam by Douglas on David Johnson. While they are still a little awkward, there is no denying their power and agility.

After the match, Bigelow and Douglas are joined by Jerry Lawler and Tommy Rich at the interview desk. Solie and Russell congratulate the rookies who both say they owe all their success to Jerry Lawler who has been working with them. Lawler pumps them up a bit but then the interview turns to the tournament for the USWA World Tag Titles in which Lawler and Rich just advances to the second round. Rich and Lawler both said how great it would be to win the title but that they also were still after Idol and his world championship. Lawler said that neither Idol nor that slimy manager, Rock Riddle good hide much longer. Rich spoke about how he was just a country boy but his mommy taught him some respect and since Idol wasn’t raised right, that he was going to have to teach him how to be a real man. He was all “fired up” and said that he and Lawler could fight just as dirty as Idol and Piper and that they don’t know what they are in for. They also pump up tonight’s main event that features Lawler, Rich and The Fab Ones vs Idol, Piper and The Sheepherders.

Sir Oliver Humperdink makes his way out to the interview desk and Lawler starts his “Humpty Dumpty” routine and wonders why Humperdink has waddled out to the set. Humperdink starts by pointing at Rich and saying that” Rich is a marked man. The House of Humperdink is family and when one of its “dogs” feels betrayed, they will hunt as one. Their prey is one Tommy Rich.”

Lawler asks is he has completely lost his marbles and all Humperdink does is start howling at the moon like a Mad Dog.”

Gordon Solie breaks in with his “We’ll be back. We’ll be right back.”

Match: Hacksaw Reed, Tony Atlas vs Ernie Ladd & Porkchop Cash

In another first round match for the USWA World Tag Titles, we see the first time Reed and Ladd have meet since their recent failing out. While Ladd and Reed tried every dirty trick they knew, there was no stopping these two young powerhouses. The end came after a few momentum changes when Reed connected with a Gorilla Press Slam on Cash which lead to the pin at 13:15. Ladd never made any attempt to make the save but kept yelling at Reed saying he aint nothing. It is obvious that the problems between these two are just getting started.

After the match, Reed and Atlas go to the interview table where Lance Russell and Gordon Solie ask congratulate them on their win. Reed and Atlas are grateful but Reed continues to yell about Ladd and how he will end his career.

MATCH: Big Bubba & Hillbilly Jim vs The Clawmasters

This is the first time the fans get to see Big Bubba and Hillbilly Jim in action as a team and they love the energy that they bring to the ring. They enter the ring to some down home fiddle music as Hillbilly Jim dances around the ring. As for the match, it is a back and forth affair. Both Baron Von Raschke and The Spoiler were able to clamp on their Iron Claws but both times, they were broken up by their opponents reaching the ropes. The Spoiler showed great agility walking the top rope and following it up with an elbow smash to the head. The House of Humperdink comes out to ringside and Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez seem to really distract Bubba and Hillbilly Jim. This allowed the Spoiler to once again clamp on the Brain Claw on Bug Bubba and he was forced to submit. This is considered a small upset by Bubba and Jim are furious and went outside the ring where the 4 men really went at it!

Lance Russell was heard saying, “You cannot believe the mayhem.” Officials and wrestlers poured out from the back and were able to restore some order as they went to commercial break.

MATCH: MAIN EVENT: 8 Man Tag Team Match

Jerry Lawler, Tommy Rich &The Fabulous Ones vs Austin Idol, Roddy Piper & the Sheepherders

As you would expect, this was wild from the start. The fan favorites had their moments but the dirty tactics of the heels also allowed them time with the advantage. There were times when Rock Riddle and JR Foley caused enough of a distraction to allow their men to take complete control. All eight men were in the ring at the same time and where paired off in an all-out brawl. Lawler vs Piper, Rich vs Idol and The Fab Ones vs The Sheepherders.

Lance Russell was heard saying that there was about 2 minutes left in the show when all of a sudden, The House of Humperdink hit the ring. Buzz Sawyer and another crazed looking man who neither Solie nor Russell knew went right after Wildfire Rich. Hercules Hernandez helped Piper double team Lawler and all three managers joined the Sheepherders in their attack on the Fab Ones. What a huge differences 24 hours has made in the USWA. Last night, the fan favorites ended the show in control of the ring but tonight it is all heels! The fans can’t believe what is happening. Russell wonders if “anybody could handle a fight where the numbers were so against them.” Solie is heard saying that both Rich and Lawler’s heads have been lacerated.” After another minute of the beating the show comes to an end with Gordon Solie’s pleading for order to be restored and his signature sign off. “The USWA says So long from Atlanta.

I really like the $5,000 challenge. It can be used as a great angle builder for the future.

The main events are great, love the use of the talent and having such big TV matches should help build the national exposure if done properly. The big tag team match, then the follow up with the 8-man tag was really fun.

Glad to see the use of the Omni now that Atlanta is a part of the USWA schedule. Memphis and Atlanta, what a combination!

Mascaras wowed the crowd with his aerial attacks but in the end, Idol was able to slap on the Las Vegas Leglock for the victory. Sir Oliver Humperdink and Korstia Korchenko are at the interview desk where Lance Russell asks Humperdink how can he support a Russian with the way things are in the world today? Humperdink tells the “Pencil Nose” to shut up and he is not in favor of any country. He is in favor a wrestlers who will bring him titles and he sent a lot of money to the Kremlin to get Korchenko here. Solie asks him how could he trust the Kremlin! Humperdink quickly changes the subject to Plowboy Frazier and that he wants Frazier and that stupid cousin of his in a loser leave town match because he can’t stomach to be in the same organizations as those hicks. All of a sudden a phone by the desk rings. Solie excuses himself as he picks up the phone. Solie is heard saying, “Waitaminute. Did I hear you correctly Mr. Jarrett. Ok, I will tell him right now. No question about it. He might not like that but I will tell him. Indeed.”

Humperdink starts to yell at him and tell Solie how rude that was. Solie says he is sorry and that he has a message for Humperdink. Humperdink acts like he can’t be bothered. Solie says Jarrett said that Jarrett has agreed to the loser-leaf down match between the House of Humperdink and Plowboy Frazier and Hillbilly Jim and that this match will be the first loser leave town match on National Television. It will be next Sunday, March 11th. Humperdink seems very happy with that idea. Solie continues with the other part of Jarrett’s message which is that since the Main Event today is part of the USWA Tournament that it will not be part of the $5000 Humperdink Challenge. Humperdink now looks relieved as he believes that he might have just saved a lot of money. While he has confidence in his men, he was unsure if Sawyer and Hernandez could defeat Atlas and Reed in less than 5 minutes. Humperdink says that Jarrett has finally made a decision using his brain. Solie says he is not done. Jarrett is forcing the House of Humperdink Challenge to continue tonight and that Korchenko must be the man involved. Humperdink seems ok with that until Solie says that Jarrett has picked his opponent for him and that Korchenko should head to the ring now.

MATCH: House of Humperdink Challenge: Korstia Korchenko vs A Mystery Opponent

dJtOwql.jpg?1

The fans are still screaming as Humperdink escorts Korchenko to the ring. Korchenko enters the ring waving the flag of the USSR and asks the fans to stand for the Russian National Anthem. The fans will have nothing to do with this and berate him the entire time. To the surprise of Korchenko his microphone goes dead and the fans hear “The Boy from New York City” begin to blare over the speakers.

QTHH127.jpg?1

The fans go wild as The Boogie Woogie Man, Jimmy Valiant comes dancing out. Once in the ring, Valiant goes right after Korchenko. Ref Paul Morton calls for the bell and the match is official. Valiant just beats the hell out of Korchenko for 5 minutes when he finally puts him out of his misery when he follows up an elbow smash with a piledriver. Humperdink is beside himself and goes after Korchenko. He summons Sawyer and Hernandez from the back and the crowd is nervous for Jimmy Valiant. Instead, Humperdink tells his men to attack Korchenko and they continue the beating. Morton hands the Boogie Woogie Man $5000 of Humperdink’s money and as the beating of Korchenko continues, Valiant circles the outside of the ring high fiving the fans and actually handing them some of Humperdink’s money. They are going wild as Valiant leaves the ring area.

Solie says “We will be right back.

Ladd and Cash struggle a bit in this match as the rookies continue to improve. Ladd was able to distract the ref while Cash hit Cooley with a low blow. Cash quickly tagged in Ladd who connected with a Big Boot for the win at 9:45.

Ladd and Cash make their way to the interview desk where they are congratulated by Russell and Solie but Ladd wants nothing to do with nice talk and goes right to calling out Hacksaw Butch Reed. He continues to say that his Army is not done with Reed and before all is said and done, he will run Reed out of the USWA. Cash and Ladd raise their fists in a sign of black power and walk off set. Gordon Solie says “fair enough. We will have to get Reed’s take on this whole situation.

The Fabulous Ones go to the interview desk where they are welcomed by Solie and Russell. Both Keirn and Lane express excitement for their victory in the first round of the USWA World Tag Team Title Tournament and promise the fans that they are going to try their best against Baron Von Raschke and The Spoiler this Monday at the Mid-South Coliseum. Solie and Russell thank them for their time and wish them luck in tonight’s match as they head to the ring.

Match: The Fabulous Ones vs Tommy Gilbert and Brett Wayne

The fans go wild as they are so excited to have the Fab Ones back in town. They come out to ZZ Top and “Sharpe Dressed Man.” They are dressed in partial tuxedos and perform a partial strip tease as the young ladies in the audience go crazy. As for the match, it is high energy all the way with two athletic and popular face teams going head to head. Both teams perform some great double team moves and there are a few momentum changes. It looked like the Gilbert and Wayne might pull off the upset as Wayne went for a Frog Splash off the top rope, but Stan Lane rolled out of the way at the last second. He followed that up with a quick tag to Keirn who hooked in the inverted Boston Crab which caused the tap out at 7:54. The two teams shook hands after the match which is always nice to see. Gilbert and Wayne headed back to the locker room when from out of nowhere came The Spoiler and Baron Von Raschke with chairs. They each hit one of the Fabulous Ones in the back with a chair and then went straight for their specialties, The Brain Claw. The Fabulous Ones were screaming in pain and tapping out but the Clawmasters refused to release the hold. The crowd began to scream as Tommy Rich and Jerry Lawler hit the ring and threw some wild haymakers before the Clawmasters ran for cover.

Rich, Lawler and The Fabulous Ones go to the interview desk where Rich and Lawler are all fired up saying that they got each other’s back and anytime these goons want a piece of them all they got to do is show up. The Fabulous Ones, a bit wobbly but regaining their composure now really hype up their match with Raschke and the Spoiler for Monday night saying these two have no idea what they have just done and that they can’t wait to get some revenge.

Piper’s Pit with Special Guest Hillbilly Jim

EryMgg8.jpg?2

Roddy Piper makes his way out to the set and sits in one of the two chairs that are there. The Sheepherders follow Piper out and stand behind him with their arms folded.

Piper calls out Hillbilly Jim but starts to insult his intelligence even before Jim gets to the set. He asks the Sheepherders if they think this big redneck will be able to find the set without a map. The Sheepherders emphatically shake their heads no. When Jim does get on set, Piper asks him where he is from and gets the response, Mudlick, Kentucky. Piper repeats Mudlick, Kentucky and then asks if he ever met anybody with teeth before. Jim kind of shrugs it off and keeps smiling. Piper wants to know if Jim has ever wraseld before and Jim says he tussled with the pigs a bit but nothing like this before. Piper starts making some fiddle noises with his mouth and Jim just keeps smiling. Piper says that he has a proposition for him and that he would like to become his manager and that he would pay him $200 a week. Jim says that is awful nice of him but he would have to ask his cousins first. Piper says that any decision he was going to make should be made with brain cells and since his cousins don’t have any, he should just listen to Piper. Jim keeps saying he doesn’t know but Piper keeps the pressure on all the while making hillbilly jokes. The crows starts to stir and from the back comes Plowboy Frazier and Big Bubba. They tell Piper that they have heard enough and usher Hillbilly Jim away. Piper says a few more redneck jokes and walks off set. Hillbilly Jim has now become kind of like the class pet to the entire USWA Universe.

Match: USWA WORLD CHAMPION AUSTIN IDOL with Rock Riddle vs Sweet Brown Sugar

In a non-title match, the fans are treated to an excellent match. The match has a few momentum changes but in the end, Rock Riddle hit Sweet Brown Sugar with a chair to the knee after Idol tossed him through the middle ropes. Ref Jerry Calhoun took a moment to admonish Idol and this is when the damage was done. Riddle rolled Sugar back into the ring where Idol clamped on the Las Vegas Leglock. This lead to his victory by submission at the 11:04 mark.

Riddle and Idol headed to the interview desk where both Russell and Solie questioned their ethics. Riddle and Idol acted like they had no idea what they were talking about. Riddle went on to remind fans that he was the “Original Mr. Wonderful” and that together, Austin Idol was quickly becoming the “Perfect World Champion.” Idol spent the next few minutes calling out Lawler, Rich and Valiant and saying that they were not worth his time and that Jarrett should really hire some competition for.

Lance Russell said that Jerry Jarrett had given him a message to relay to Austin Idol. Idol said that Jarrett was too much of a coward to be here in person to deliver it but for Russell to get on with it. Russell said that Idol would defend his belt at the First Battle of Atlanta on March 12th and that his opponent would be announce tomorrow night right here on WTBS. Idol acted like it did not matter who it was and that he could beat anyone. Riddle and Idol strut off set.

Match: Tommy Rich vs “Dirty” Dutch Mantel with Rock Riddle

This is a rare singles match for Mantel since his return to the area but the fans know how ruthless he can be. When Rich makes his way to the ring, the goes go wild and are all over him. There is little resemblance to a wrestling match as these two just are in an all-out brawl. It looked like Rich was to gain the victory after he followed up a huge elbow drop with a sleeper but before the ref counted out Mantell, the fans started to scream as both Bobby Jaggers and Austin Idol hit the ring. They beat on Rich for a moment and then tied their bull ropes around the neck on Tommy Rich. Those CWA fans in Memphis recently saw the Jayhawks do this to Mark Youngblood and Jules Strongbow and you could feel the tension in the air. They were about to launch Rich over the top rope and basically hang him with their bull ropes. Just before this occurred, the TV audience heard Solie say that help was on the way. Jerry Lawler hit the ring with his two protégées, Bam Bam Bigelow and Shane Douglas. They quickly threw some big punches and cleared the ring. Rock Riddle’s Gang of Perfection left the set to fight another day. Lawler untied Rich and the 4 men headed to the interview desk.

Russell and Solie thanked Lawler, Bigelow and Douglas for helping Tommy Rich. Tommy Rich also thanked them but went on to say that all that was, was a set up! Lawler and Rich are going to take on the Jawhawks tomorrow night in a second round match for the USWA World Tag Titles and they were just trying to one of us out. Lawler takes the microphone and goes off on Riddle and Idol and says that his days as champ are numbered.

Match: MAIN EVENT: Hacksaw Butch Reed and Tony Atlas

vs Hercules Hernandez and Buzz Sawyer with Sir Oliver Humperdink

Again, the USWA continues to change what wrestling on TV is all about. This could be a main event in any arena in the country and tonight, it is free on national television. Gordon Solie begins by saying, “Katie bar the door, indeed, this is going to be something special.” Gordon Solie could not have been more right. This match had it all. From momentum changes to Humperdink trying to get involved to all 4 men in the ring at the same time with Lance Russell saying, “You cannot believe the mayhem. The fans were at the edge of their seats but things looked bleak. Reed and Atlas just couldn’t get anything going. For once, their strength was somewhat neutralized as Hernandez is just a beast and Sawyer, as Solie said, has a low center of gravity and was tough to take off his feet. After a quick double team move by the House of Humperdink, Sawyer climbed to the top and hit a huge frog splash on Reed. The only reason why this was not the end was that Atlas made the save. Hernandez now went after Atlas and ref Jerry Calhoun lost control. Humperdink was able to slip Sawyer some sort of foreign object and he connected with Reed’s temple and out went the lights. While Hernandez and Atlas continued their brawl, Sawyer covered Reed for the pin!

Ernie Ladd and Porkchop Cash took this perfect opportunity to attack Atlas and Reed. This beating continued as Sawyer and Hernandez joined in. It was now 4-2 until the fans started to scream and Plowboy Frazier and Hillbilly Jim hit the ring and went right after the House of Humperdink. The 8 man brawl continues with Russell saying,”You cannot believe the mayhem. As time winds down on the show, Solie tells the fans, “So long from Memphis.”

The screen fades to black.

I haven't had a chance to full chime in on USWA publicly but I have to say that you have done a very good job thus far. Your talent roster is just incredible and you've done a good job putting some people in top spots to show their legitimacy. Your two shows here have got showcases from some of the top talent and you even bring in guys who add to the show.

I have to make my picks and I think Reed is the man of the hour here but Tony Atlas has got the future of this company on his back. With these guys, then you've got Piper and Lawler all fighting to get the top spot from Austin Idol... it is going to be a crazy go and then you throw in Buzz Sawyer and you can guarantee all bets are off. I just hope you don't get bogged down and can continue what you've started and be one of if not the premiere organization in 1984.

Korchenko comes to the ring hearing a chorus of boos and he is also all alone. It is just one day since he lost his first match in the USWA as a member of the House of Humperdink. After his defeat to Jimmy Valiant, Humperdink turned on him and attacked him with Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez. Korchenko comes to the ring carrying the Russian flag and asks for the fans to stand will he sings the Russian National Anthem. The fans now boo even louder as he begins the song. Half way through, the fans erupt as Pvt. Kernodle heads to the ring carrying the United States flag.

As for the match, Korchenko is doing much better tonight. Maybe it was jet lag that made him look so bad last night. This match is back and forth for about 5 minutes with both men turning it into a brawl. All of sudden, Gordon Solie announces the approach of Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez. They hit the ring and continue last night’s beating of Korchenko. This is one of the few times that the House of Humperdink hears the cheers for them. Ref Paul Morton quickly calls for the bell. Pvt. Kernodle does not know what to do so he simply hangs out in the corner. Next to the ring and on the attack is Plowboy Frazier, Hillbilly Jim and Big Bubba. Last night, Jerry Jarrett announced that Sawyer and Hercules will face Frazier and Hillbilly Jim in the first ever Loser Leave Town Televised Match next Sunday. This feud has been brewing long since before the USWA was even born. Frazier quit the House of Humperdink due to Humperdink’s allegiance with Tojo Yamamoto who denounced America and said that Japan should execute another attack on America like they had done in Japan. They head right for the House of Humperdink and go on the attack. It is now 4 against 3 and Korchenko has Sir Oliver Humperdink by the throat. The fans are going wild as this is turning into a full riot. Tojo Yamamoto rushes to the ring leading both Mr. Saito and Killer Khan into action. Khan quickly sprays the Asian green mist into the eyes of Kernodle and then they go after Frazier. Solie is pleading for help from the back but I don’t think there is enough security to stop this mayhem that Lance Russell is announcing. Finally, Corporal Kirchner and Sgt. Slaughter hit the ring and turn the tide in favor of the good guys. Slaughter tosses Khan and Saito to the floor while the Hillbillies take care of the House of Humperdink. Somehow, Korchenko has escaped to the locker room and he is lucky as he did not have a friend anywhere in the ring. The Hillbillies and The Fort Bragg Brotherhood stand united in the ring daring their enemies to make another attack. Humperdink and Yamamoto decide discretion is the better part of valor and head to the locker room.

The Hillbillies and the Fort Bragg Brotherhood head to the interview desk where Frazier and Hillbilly Jim announce it will be there pleasure to rid the USWA of such low lives as the House of Humperdink. Sgt. Slaughter speaks for the Brotherhood and says that he is sick and tired of the Shogunate “maggots” and that they better be ready for a fight they will never forgot.

As they are heading to commercial break, Lance Russell can be over heard speaking to Gordon Solie. “What in the Sam Hill was that all about?” Solie replied that he has not seen a brawl like that to start a show in a long, long time.

Interview with The Kansas Jayhawks and Austin Idol with Rock Riddle (Review Sat attack)

Solie and Russell want an explanation for last night’s attack on Tommy “Wildfire” Rich and that it was over the top that they tried to hang him with their bull ropes. Rock Riddle says that Tommy Rich tries to play the part of the “perfect” wrestler but it fact he is just a dirty rule breaker who has all the fans fooled. Riddle went on to remind people that he is “the original Mr. Perfect” and that his men, Bobby Jaggers, Dutch Mantell, and Austin Idol have now formed the perfect stable and if Rich dares to get in the way that he will really be hanged next time. Jaggers and Mantell, both spitting tobacco as they speak go on with a rant about how the same will hold true for them ignorant rookies, Bam Bam Bigelow and Shane Douglas if they continue to follow the likes of Jerry Lawler. They continue to announce how they are going to wipe the mat with Lawler and Rich in tonight’s main event. This match was to be just a second round match in the USWA World Tag Team Title Tournament but now throw in the attempted hanging of Tommy Rich last night by the Jawhawks and this match has the making a an all-out war!

Idol takes the microphone and in an unusual moment of calmness says that he is going to end the careers of both Lawler and Rich. He is tired of those two thinking they saved Memphis and Georgia wrestling from disaster. He calls them both arrogant and naïve and that they better watch their backs. “The Perfect Stable” walks off set” as Lance Russell turns his attention to the ring and the next match.

Match: The Sheepherders and Roddy Piper with JR Foley vs Bam Bam Bigelow, Shane Douglas and Jimmy Valiant

This match was very exciting. Jimmy Valiant had the entire match in the palm of his hand as the Commonwealth could not figure out his unorthodox style. He was hitting them with rights and lefts and sometimes taking on two men at once. JR Foley distracted the ref, Paul Morton, long enough for Piper to execute a low blow on Valiant and the match was never the same. The rookies performed well but were just not used to the dirty tactics of the Sheepherders and Piper. Douglas was able to connect with a powerbomb on Luke Williams but Butch Miller made the save before the count of one. Eventually, with Valiant and Piper brawling outside the ring, the Sheepherders knocked Douglas off the apron and then connected with a “Battering Ram” on Bigelow for the victory.

MATCH: USWA NATIONAL TITLE MATCH: MR. USA TONY ATLAS VS PORKCHOP CASH

Tony Atlas has been a fighting champion and tonight is no different. He has taken on all comers and tonight, he will be facing the one man Ernie Ladd has left in his Army. Atlas comes to the ring to a loud ovation and this fan support helps him to gain the momentum right away. There a few momentum swings but at about the 9:00 mark, Atlas seems to be on the verge of victory. Unfortunately for him, as he lifted Cash up for a Gorilla Press Slam, he did not see Ladd attacking from the back. Ladd connects with a Big Boot from behind as Atlas held Cash up in the air. Atlas crumbled to the ground and ref Paul Morton quickly called for the bell disqualifying Cash. The two don’t seem to care and just beat Atlas for a few minutes. Solie is heard saying, “and it looks like… yes it is indeed Butch Reed coming to the aid of his now friend Tony Atlas.” Reed hits the ring but he is all alone at Atlas is down. Ladd and Cash survive the initial onslaught and then take down Reed. Cash drapes Reed’s leg across the ropes as Ladd nails it with Big Boot after Big Boot. Reed appears unable to stand up and Atlas definitely needs medical attention.

When they think there work is done, Cash and Ladd head to the interview desk. Ladd grabs the microphone and tells Solie and Russell not to speak for once is their useless lives but to listen. Ladd goes on to say that he heard that Atlas and Reed want to rid wrestling of Ernie Ladd! He lets the fans know that that is not going to happen and that his army is once again growing stronger. Stronger in talent, stronger in will and most importantly, stronger in numbers. Lance Russell asks who now has defected to his “Army.” Ladd and Cash ignore the question and raise their fist in a sign of black power and walk off. Solie, in a very sarcastic way says, “Fair enough. Let’s take a break.”

2nd Rd Match: USWA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT: Jerry Lawler & Tommy Rich vs The Kansas Jayhawks with Rock Riddle

The fans are on the edge of their seats for this one. Rock Riddle is quickly becoming one of the most hated men in all of the USWA but there is no denying that he has his men performing on a very high level. As Rich and Lawler are being announced, The Jayhawks sneak attack. Martell is all over Rich and Jaggers is beating Lawler. Ref Jerry Calhoun finally restores order and Lawler and Jaggers are the legal men in the ring. Lawler is able to gain the momentum and almost claims the victory after a “Vertical Suplayyy” as Solie describes the action but Mantell made the save. The action is now high paced with a lot of brawling tactics for the next 10 minutes or so. The end comes as Riddle distracts the ref after Mantell connected on a high, high hip toss which had Tommy Rich arching his back in pain. This distraction allows Mantell to reach in to his trunks and pull something out and place it inside his knee pad. The fans are screaming but the ref has no idea why. Mantell whips Rich into the ropes and goes for a running knee to the skull but Rich leaps over the knee and nails “Dirty” Dutch with a Lou Thesz Press. As the ref begins the count, Jaggers rushes in to make the save but Lawler catches him with a running clothesline. Jerry Calhoun completes the 3 count and the fans go wild. Lance Russell announce that Rich and Lawler have now reached the Semifinals in the USWA World Tag Title Tournament. Gordon Solie announces that they are just about out of time but for everyone come on out to the Mid-South Coliseum this Monday night for some great USWA Wrestling . Solie finishes with “The USWA says So long from Memphis.

USWA WRESTLING: 3/10/1984: WTBS

SHOW AIRED NATIONALLY

6:05-8:05

TAPED IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA

47BZr7X.jpg?2

“Yello again everybody. Welcome to USWA Wrestling here on WTBS. I am Lance Russell along with Gordon Solie and Dave Brown. We have a jam packed show tonight so let’s get right to our first segment.”

THIS WEEK IN THE USWA BY DAVE BROWN

Lance Russell and Gordon Solie welcome fans to the Saturday night show on WTBS and they turn it over to Dave Brown for his segment, This Week in the USWA.

Dave Brown begins with a reminder that the USWA is in the middle of a 16 team tournament to name the first ever USWA World Tag Team Champions and that the tournament continues tonight and that the semi-finals and finals will be in The Omni in Atlanta, Georgia on March 12th.

· Dave continues on about the tournament and announces that both quarter finals will be tonight, right here on WTBS. Fans will get to see The Fabulous Ones vs The Clawmasters, Baron Von Raschke and The Spoiler along with tonight’s main event, The Sheepherders vs The Fort Bragg Brotherhood, PVT. Kernodle and Cpl. Kirchner.

· Brown continues on The First Battle of Atlanta at the Omni on March 12th and announces some of the major matches.

Porkchop Cash vs Sweet Brown Sugar

Sgt. Slaughter vs Mr. Saito

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs Ernie “The Big Cat” Ladd

USWA TITLE UNIFICATION BOUT: Tony Atlas vs Roddy Piper. Loser must vacate belt.

USWA WORLD TITLE MATCH: Austin Idol with Rock Riddle vs Bruiser Brody.

· Brown continues on by saying how Jerry Jarrett and Ted Turner are quickly making the USWA a powerhouse and that they are now holding shows in 11 states and growing and that they now have contracts to hold major events in April in such cities as Baltimore, MD, Columbus, OH, Tupelo, MS and Huntingdon, WV

· MATCH OF THE WEEK: Buzz Sawyer & Hercules Hernandez defeated Atlas & Reed

A great match seen here last week on TV. Both sides had their chances for the victory but in the end Sir Oliver Humperdink’s team came out on top and are now poised to face Tommy “Wildfire” Rich and Jerry “The King” Lawler at The First Battle of Atlanta.

· Wrestler of the Week: Tommy Rich

What a week it was for Wildfire. He and his partner defeated The Kansas Jayhawks and the team of Roddy Piper and Austin Idol and in singles competition, he defeated “Dirty “ Dutch Mantell and took the USWA World Champion to a 30 minute draw Thursday night in the Louisville Gardens. Both men left bloodied and beaten but Rich nearly came away with the belt if it was not for interference by Idol’s manager, Rock Riddle.

When Brown finishes, Austin Idol, Rock Riddle and The Kansas Jayhawks rush out to the interview desk and begin to berate Dave Brown. They are furious at the accusation that Wildfire would have won the belt if it was not for Riddle. They threaten to sue Brown and the USWA for false information. Gordon Solie steps in and says, “That will be enough Mr. Riddle and Mr. Idol.” They then turn their attention to him and start to yell at him for the announcement that Idol is to meet Brody for the title at The First Battle of Atlanta. Solie defends himself by saying that he does not sign the matches. He just announces them. Riddle agrees but last week Solie was to announce who Idol was to face in the Omni and that somehow he just conveniently skipped over it and now Idol does not have the proper time to prepare for Brody. Lance Russell now takes a shot at this two. “What is the Sam Hill are you two taking about. Last week’s show ended in total mayhem and you wanted us to announce your match. Will you two guys just stop and get out of here.” Riddle responds with a “not until Jarrett gets out here and makes it right. All of a sudden, the phone at the desk rings and Solie picks it up. He is heard saying, I see Mr. Jarrett” and then he hangs up. Riddle asks what that was all about. Solie informs them that Jarrett says Idol will fight in the Omni against Brody or be stripped of his belt and that if they don’t take Lance’s advice and get out of here right now, they will all be suspended. Riddle and his “Perfect Stable” walk off complaining about everyone and everything.

Sir Oliver Humperdink along with Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez are at the interview desk where Russell asks them how they feel about tomorrow night’s loser-leaf town match against Plowboy Frazier and Hillbilly Jim. Humperdink seems unusually calm as he starts in on “Pencil Nose” Russell and about how dumb a question that is. He announces that there is no chance his men will lose and he can’t wait to get rid of those stinky rednecks once and for all. Gordon Solie turns the interview towards Korstia Korchenko who wrestled only one match for the House of Humperdink before Sir Oliver turned on him. Humperdink goes on to say that he was robbed by the Kremlin and that Korchenko is not worth the tights he wrestled in. He says he will take the money he paid the Kremlin for Korchenko’s services out of the hide of Korchenko. For once, the fans seem to be on the side of Humperdink. They all head to the ring for the Humperdink Challenge. If Sweet Brown Sugar and Brett Wayne can last 10 minutes, they get $10,000 of Humperdink’s money.

MATCH: House of Humperdink Challenge:

Buzz Sawyer & Hercules Hernandez vs Sweet Brown Sugar & Brett Wayne

As for the match it is a strange one. Sawyer completely dominates Sweet Brown Sugar but seems to be a little off against Brett Wayne. It is no problem as Hercules Hernandez picks up the slack. Hernandez catches Brett Wayne in the Backbreaker Rack and forces the submission at 6:02. Buzz rushes into the ring to ”congratulate” his teammate but it seems that he is just as interested in getting Hernandez to release the submission hold. The House of Humperdink celebrate and now turn their focus to tomorrow night’s loser-leave town match.

Solie says “We will be right back.

MATCH: Ernie Ladd vs Shane Douglas

In a surprising match, Shane Douglas actually had Ladd on the ropes until Ladd surprised him with a Big Boot for the pin at 8:02.

Ladd makes his way to the interview desk where he again says that he his role in wrestling is to rid the USWA of such Uncle Tom’s as Butch Reed and Tony Atlas. He announces that his job begins Monday at The First Battle of Atlanta where he is going to punish Butch Reed. He continues to belittle Reed by calling a muscle bound dummy with no skill. Before raising his fist in a sign of Black Power, he again tells the fans of USWA Wrestling that his Army is always growing and that re-enforcements are on their way.

The Shogunate are at the interview table where Tojo Yamamoto seems to be in a really foul mood. His berates Mis-tah Sargant Slauughter and the rest of the Fort Bragg Brotherhood. He also says that his men are about to help his longtime friend, Sir Oliver Humperdink but beating Plowboy Frazier and Hillbilly Jim so bad in the next match that they will not even be able to wrestle tomorrow night.

Match: Mr. Saito & Killer Khan vs Plowboy Frazier & Hillbilly Jim

This match is a great match for TV. Saito and Khan gain the early momentum but they have trouble taking both Frazier and Hillbilly Jim off their feet as they are just too big. Hillbilly Jim blocks a Saito Suplex and goes on the attack. He follows up a bodyslam with a big legdrop. As he goes for the pin, Khan comes in to make the save but he is blocked by a big body bump by Frazier. All of a sudden the House of Humperdink hits the ring and starts to beat on the Hillbillies. It is now 5-2 and it looks bleak. Cousin Bubba hits the ring and now the Hillbillies might still be 2 men down but they may hold the weight advantage. Bubba starts throwing his weight around and one by one, he clears the ring. The Shogunate and the House of Humperdink are now outside the ring while the Cousins reign supreme inside the squared circle. Lance Russell again was all amped up and was heard saying, “You cannot believe the mayhem that just occurred in the ring. This is going to be some showdown tomorrow night and ya’ll can see it right here on WTBS.

Piper’s Pit with Special Guest Tony Atlas

Roddy Piper makes his way out to the set and sits in one of the two chairs that are there. The Sheepherders follow Piper out and stand behind him with their arms folded.

Piper calls out Tony Atlas who walks out to the set real cautiously. Piper starts to play up Atlas about who big and strong he is and Atlas just kind of shakes his head and not trusting Piper while he is getting buttered up. Piper than turns to Jerry Jarrett and how he has Atlas and Piper set to wrestle each other at The First Battle of Atlanta and the winner gets to keep his title while the loser will vacate his. Atlas continues shaking his head and then announces that he plans on walking out with the USWA National belt. Piper now starts shaking he head and says, you do, do ya! Piper starts to get in the face of Atlas trying to antagonize him and it is working. Atlas gets up out of his chair and gets in the face of Piper! Piper starts yelling back and this distraction is enough for the Sheepherders to sneak attack Atlas from behind. The 3-1 goes on for about two minutes and Atlas is left lying in the middle of the set of Piper’s Pit. Piper announces to the fans that they better get used to seeing Atlas flat on his back and that there is no way Atlas will be a champion after this Monday in the Omni. Piper drops the microphone on the chest of Atlas and he and the Sheepherders leave the set.

Match: Jimmy Valiant, Tommy Rich, Jerry Lawler vs Austin Idol and The Kansas Jayhawks

This could be a main event match anywhere in the country and the in- studio fans and TBS fans around the United States can’t believe they get to see it for free. The match goes as expected. Many momentum changes, wild pier 6 brawls, action inside and outside of the ring along with the original “Mr. Perfect,” Rock Riddle doing his best to make sure his Perfect Stable comes out on top. Riddle distracted ref Paul Morton which allowed the Jayhawks and Idol to triple team Rich. When Morton finally turned his attention back to the mat, Rich was in serious trouble. The Jawhawks whipped him into the ropes and nailed him with a double clothesline but Valiant slapped Rich on the way by making him the legal man in the ring. Mantell tagged in Idol. He came in to scoop up Rich for a massive bodyslam thinking Rich was still the legal man in the ring. Valiant snuck up behind and rolled up the champ for the 1...2...3. Jimmy Valiant just earned a victory over the champ and the fans. The Perfect Stable is beside themselves and screaming at Morton but there is nothing he can do about it.

Lawler, Rich and Valiant go to the interview desk where they are congratulated by both Russell and Solie. Rich and Lawler talk about how they are so excited for the World Tag Team Title semi-finals and finals and how they are going to put that low life Humperdink in his place. Rich talks about the last time he met Sawyer in the Omni and how happy he is going to be to whoop up on that dirty dog again. Valiant starts to call out Austin Idol. He says anytime, anyplace, baby! He says how he is going to do the Boogie Woogie all over Idol and that he won’t know what hit him.

Match: The Sheepherders with JR Foley vs The Ft. Bragg Brotherhood

This quarter final match of the USWA Tag Title Tournament really has the fans excited. The Fort Bragg Brotherhood, PVT. Kernodle and CPL. Kirchner comes to the ring waving the red, white and blue and the fans are all behind them. This excitement quickly turns to boos as JR Foley, dressed in Army fatigues and sporting a Hitler style mustache leads the Sheepherders to the ring carrying the British Commonwealth flag. All three are antagonizing the fans as they head to the ring.

As for the match, it is high energy all the way with many momentum changes but in the end, The Sheepherders, along with the constant distracting by Foley prove too much for the Brotherhood. The Sheepherders nail Kirchner with a battering ram and ref Jerry Calhoun makes the 3 count before Kernodle gets in to make the save. The British Commonwealth strut their way to the interview desk where they announce that the World Titles are as good as theirs.

Match: MAIN EVENT:

The Fabulous Ones vs The Claw Masters (Raschke & The Spoiler)

Again the fans are treated to a great quarter final match in the Tag Tournament. This time it is Stan Lane and Steve Keir who get the fans going right from the beginning with their Sharp Dressed Man, tuxedo, and strip tease routine. In the end, the speed of the Fabulous Proves too much for The Clawmasters as Lane and Keirn connect with a double dropkick on Baron Von Raschke. As soon as the match is over The Sheepherders return to the ring and together with the Clawmasters beat the Fabulous Ones. Keirn and Lane have no chance in their 4-2 attack any everybody knows it but Gordon Solie reminds us anyway that the attack is all about injuring the Fabulous Ones so they can’t wrestle Monday at the First Battle of Atlanta against the Sheepherders. Russell and Solie continue to call the mayhem as time winds down in the show until finally Solie announces So long from Atlanta.

Tag team wrestling is shining through here. Fun six-man tag team match and then some quarter final matches mixed in as well. I continue to love the Piper Pit's segments, giving Piper something more unique than any other persona in the business right now with this interview segment. The live special from the Omni is shaping up. Should be a fun night of wrestling coming up.

Match: Bam Bam Bigelow vs Nightmare #1

Jerry Lawler accompanies his protégé, Bigelow, to the ring but then goes over to the interview desk to join Solie and Russell for the match. As far as the match goes, it is high paced and the fans are starting to see that for a big man of 350 pounds, Bigelow can really move. While Nightmare #1 knows all the tricks of the trade, in the end the size difference was just too much. Bigelow gets a rare win in his rookie year when he connected with a powerbomb at the 5:11 mark.

Bigelow joins the group at the interview desk were he thanks all for their compliments and he says he owes it all to Jerry Lawler. Solie turns the interview to Lawler and Tommy Rich’s semi-final match tournament match against the House of Humperdink which is to take place tomorrow night at The First Battle of Atlanta. Lawler laughs and then continues to speak but says that after tonight, Wildfire and himself would have a bye into the finals as Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez were going to lose to Plowboy Frazier and Hillbilly Jim and be forced to leave the USWA for a year!

Solie pondered for a moment and then says “Well King, I had not thought about that but indeed, you might just walk into the championship but.

LOSER LEAVE TOWN MATCH:

Hillbilly Jim & Plowboy Frazier vs Buzz Sawyer & Hercules Hernandez with Humperdink

The fans are on the edge of their seats for this one. Sir Oliver Humperdink leads Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez to the ring. Humperdink has Buzz Sawyer on a dog leash while Hernandez has a huge chain around his neck which makes him look even stronger than he is. The House of Humperdink seems ready for this one. Plowboy Frazier and Hillbilly Jim come to the ring to some fiddle music with big smiles on their faces. They are really looking forward to getting rid of Humperdink and his men.

As for the match, Sir Oliver Humperdink is doing his best to have the outcome come out in his favor. He distracts the ref, trips up Hillbilly Jim on an Irish Whip and even kicked Plowboy Frazier when the action spilled out on to the studio floor. It was so bad that Big Bubba, Frazier and Jim’s cousin, came down to the ring and chased Humperdink away from the action. Humperdink, from a far, continued to threaten Bubba with his walking stick but never came any closer. The fans loved this and thought it gave their favorites a chance.

The end came after Hercules Hernandez whipped Hillbilly Jim right in to ref Paul Morton which sent him to the floor. He was really out of it. Hillbilly Jim went to check on him and this is when Hernandez came off the ropes and nailed him with a huge running clothesline. Plowboy Frazier tried to come to his rescue but he was caught with a flying elbow by Buzz Sawyer. Hercules now began to slowly go to check on the ref when all of a sudden

WHAM! Big Bubba came off the top rope in a sitting position and landed right on the chest of HILLBILLY JIM! The three now triple teamed Plowboy Frazier who also was nailed by a top rope Avalanche from Big Bubba. Hillbilly Jim and Plowboy Frazier were completely out as the ref came to and made the three count as Hernandez covered Hillbilly Jim. The House of Humperdink, including Sir Oliver and BIG BUBBA danced around the ring in celebration. Frazier and Jim looked stunned. The expression on their face said it all. “How could a member of the family turn on them?” Bubba just laughed as his cousins struggled to get to their knees.

Gordon Solie ends the show with “I have now seen it all and I am sick to my stomach. Fans, please remember tomorrow night on TBS is The First Battle of Atlanta. So long form Atlanta.”

SHOW AIRED NATIONALLY

7:05-10:05

LIVE FROM THE OMNI

ATLANTA, GEORGIA

“Yello again everybody. Welcome to USWA Wrestling here on WTBS. I am Lance Russell along with Gordon Solie and Dave Brown. This is our first prime time special and it is being billed as The First Battle of Atlanta. We have a jam packed show tonight so let’s get right to the ring.”

MATCH 1: Jimmy Valiant vs The Spoiler

A great opening match that gave the fans everything they could want. They erupted when they heard “The Boys from New York City” blare through the speakers and the match kept them on the edge of their seats for its entirety. The Spoiler almost had the pin when he walked the top rope while keeping an arm bar on Valiant and then leaped off into a Brain Claw but Valiant was able to get to the ropes. The match turned wild and this was right up Valiant’s alley. He actually bite the Spoiler on the forehead through the mask and then followed it up with a huge bodyslam and a diving elbow drop from the middle rope for the pin at 12:43.

__________________________________________________________________________

MATCH: Brett Wayne vs Bam Bam Bigelow

The fans really are falling in love with the high energy of this year’s rookie crop which is led by Bigelow. This 350 pounder has such agility and power that everyone knows it is only a matter of time. With Jerry Lawler helping his training, that time is getting closer. Tonight’s match was by far his best and he actually got the victory when he followed a Body Avalanche with a diving headbut at 10:03. His new tattoos of flames across his skull and a flame inspired outfit along with his ability has the fans waiting more. He high fives all the way back to the locker room as Brett Wayne takes a moment to regroup in the ring.

__________________________________________________________________________

MATCH: Porkchop Cash vs Sweet Brown Sugar

This match is part of the ongoing feud between Ladd’s Army and Butch Reed’s new alliance. This match was a fight between two different styles, the powerhouse bruising style of Cash vs the speed and agility of Sweet Brown Sugar. The end came when Cash threw Sugar into ref Paul Morton which allowed Ernie Ladd to come to ring side and connect with a Big Boot on Sugar. Cash followed that up with a huge powerslam. Cash helped ref Paul Morton regroup and then went for the cover. The end came at 10:02 and Ladd and Cash celebrated by raising their fists in a sign of Black Power which is the Mantra of Ladd’s Army.

Match: USWA WORLD TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL

The Fabulous Ones vs The Sheepherders with JR FOLEY

This one again has the fans on the edge of their sits. All the ladies in the arena begin to scream as the Fab Ones come out in their tuxedos to ZZ Topps “Sharpe Dressed Man” and then perform a little strip tease. This excitement quickly turns to boos as JR Foley, dressed in Army fatigues and sporting a Hitler style mustache leads the Sheepherders to the ring carrying the British Commonwealth flag. All three are antagonizing the fans as they head to the ring.

As for the match, it is high energy all the way with many momentum changes. The end came when Steve Keirn was being double teamed by the Sheepherders and Lane tried to rush me to help his partner. Ref Jerry Calhoun forced Lane back to his corner but this allowed the Sheepherders to illegally throw Keirn face first into the ring post and split him wide open. The Sheepherders followed this up with a Battering Ram and in a surprisingly clean victory, pinned Keirn at 18:21.

Match: USWA WORLD TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL

Tommy Rich & Jerry Lawler vs Buzz Sawyer & Hercules Hernandez with Sir Oliver Humperdink

Wow! Could it be that Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer met in the Last Battle of Atlanta in Georgia Championship Wrestling and now they are meeting in the First Battle of Atlanta for the USWA? The House of Humperdink do not wait for the bell and attack as soon as Lawler and Rich enter the ring. This gives them the early advantage. Hernandez was able to just overpower Rich and Lawler at times. He executed such power moves as bodyslams and clothesline. He even used some awesome submission moves including a bearhug on Rich and The Backbreaker Rack on Lawler but Rich and Lawler kept making the save. This infuriated Humperdink who berated ref Jerry Calhoun about his inability to keep the illegal man out of the ring. After being trapped in the ring for a while, Lawler was finally able to tag in Rich who went on “fire.” This was the beginning of the end as all four men were in the ring and Lawler and Rich whipped the House of Humperdink into each other. As Sawyer and Humperdink bounced off each other, Lawler caught Sawyer in a sleeper and Rich, the legal man, caught Hernandez in a sleeper. Humperdink got up on the apron to again go after the ref. Calhoun did not seem to care about Lawler and Sawyer as they were not bothering the “legal” action in the ring! As both Sawyer and Hernandez begin to go out and Calhoun begins to count, Earthquake hits the ring and Avalanche’s both Rich and Lawler from behind. Calhoun disqualifies the House of Humperdink but that does nothing to slow down the attack by Earthquake. He drags Lawler and Rich into the corner and places Rich on top of Lawler and then he climbs to the top rope and jumps off in a seated position and lands on Rich. He is basically crushing them. The House of Humperdink finally leaves with Rich and Lawler left in a heap in the ring. They are victorious but who knows if they will even be able to wrestle the Sheepherders for the championship later on tonight.

MATCH: BOOT CAMP MATCH

Sgt. Slaughter, Pvt. Kernodle & Cpl. Kirchner vs Mr. Saito, Killer Khan & Tojo Yamamoto

In a match basically with no rules, this is as wild as you could imagine. The fans are all over the Shogunate but they don’t seem to care. The end came when all 6 men were paired off all over the arena. Killer Khan slammed Cpl. Kirchner head into the steel barricade and then he goes over to id Tojo who was battling Kernodle. He quickly sprays the Asian Green Mist into the eyes of Kernodle which has him rolling on the floor in agony. Yamamoto has him in a stomach claw while Khan lays the boots to him until he is basically knocked out. Khan and Tojo re-enter the ring and join Saito in his fight against Sgt. Slaughter. They triple team him. Yamamoto with another stomach Claw while Khan Puts Slaughter into his own signature move, the Cobra Clutch. Sgt yells in pain but refuses to give up. Saito scoops him up and follows up a short arm clothesline with 2 Saito Suplexes. Ref Paul Morton is forced to make the 3 count as the Shogunate has defeated the Ft. Bragg Brotherhood in 21:03. Saito, Khan, and Yamamoto now grab the United States flag that Slaughter had brought to the ring and begin to stomp on it and spit on it. The fans in the Omni are now enraged and the USWA is lucky there was not a riot as the Shogunate headed to the locker room.

MATCH: HACKSAW REED VS ERNIE LADD

This feud has been brewing since Reed left Ladd and his Army. Reed was first to the ring and you could see the anger in his eyes. Ladd begins to walk to the ring but Reed could not contain himself. He rushed up the runway and attacks Ladd. The two brawl for about 10 minutes with each being bloodied by the other. Both connect with major moves but in the end Reed executed a huge Gorilla Press Slam on Ladd on the concrete floor. Security, USWA official and wrestlers rush from the back to keep Reed away from Ladd who is flat on his back on the Omni floor. Ref Jerry Calhoun declares this bout a NO CONTEST. This is certainly not the last we have seen of this feud.

Match: USWA TITLE UNIFICATION MATCH

USWA NATIONAL CHAMPION VS USWA SOUTHERN CHAMPION

MR. USA TONY ATLAS VS ROWDY RODDY PIPER

Now this match had the fans going wild. The winner gets to keep his belt while the loser will be stripped of his. It was hard to tell if it was because they like Atlas so much or because of their hatred for Piper and his manager JR Foley. His first few Piper’s Pits have made Piper the most hated man in all of the USWA and that is hard to do in an organization that includes Ernie Ladd and Tojo Yamamoto.

As for the match it is back and forth. Piper is cautious not to get to close to Atlas unless he had the advantage. He used every dirty trick known to wrestling but it did not get him close to victory. Atlas almost had Piper trapped outside the ring but Foley put his body between Atlas and Piper which allowed the rowdy one to escape. Piper rushed back into the ring and appeared to grab a foreign object out of his trunks and place it in his right hand. When Atlas entered the ring, he backed Piper into a corner but this allowed Piper a chance to throw that loaded right hand. To Piper’s surprise and Foley’s anger, Atlas ducked under and scooped up Piper into a belly to back suplex. The brass knuckles went flying in the air and Atlas covered Piper for the pin. Foley rushed into the ring and put on the brass knucks but Atlas easily dodged his punch and scooped Foley into a Gorilla Press Slam right onto Piper. The crowd went wild as Atlas leaves with his title. Ref Jerry Calhoun grabs Piper’s USWA Southern Heavyweight Championship and walks to the back as that title is now considered vacant! The crowd loves to see the British Commonwealth struggling to just get to their feet.

Match: USWA WORLD TITLE MATCH

AUSTIN IDOL with ROCK RIDDLE VS BRUISER BRODY

This match is wild and Idol does everything he can just to survive the brutal attack by Bruiser Brody but tonight it was to no avail. Everything Idol tried, Brody had an answer. At about the 15 minute mark, Idol seemed to having nothing left. Brody scooped Idol up into a Backbreaker Rack and Idol was in real trouble. After about a 2 minutes in this torture rack, Idol looked like he was about to tap out when WHAM!

Rock Riddle entered the ring and cracked Idol over the back with a chair. Ref Paul Morton immediately called for the bell and disqualified Idol. The crowd began to cheer as many thought Brody was the new champ. Brody now turned his attention to Riddle who ran for his life up the runway. The two disappeared behind a curtain and nobody in the audience saw the beating Brody gave Riddle. This was all captured on TV and viewed by the National Audience. The crowd started to boo as the ring announcer told the fans that Idol retained his World Title due to the disqualification.

USWA WORLD TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

TOMMY RICH & JERRY LAWLER VS THE SHEEPHERDERS with JR FOLEY

This is the one the wrestling world has been waiting for. As you could expect, it is a brutal match. The action took place both inside and outside of the ring and often had all 4 competitors brawling at the same time. The end came after a long bout that saw many momentum changes and a lot of blood spilled. The Sheepherders had Wildfire on the ropes when they went after him with their signature finisher, The Battering Ram. With Luke Williams rushing toward Rich using Butch Miller’s head as a weapon, Rich was in trouble. At the last moment Rich lifted a perfectly timed knee to the nose of Miller and he back peddled a few times before collapsing to the mat. Rich followed that up by coming off the ropes and catching Williams with a big clothesline that send him over the top rope. Foley rushed to aid Williams as Rich tagged in Lawler. Lawler climbed the roped and came off the top with a perfectly centered fist drop. Ref Jerry Calhoun quickly made the 3 count.

Lawler and Wildfire are the first ever USWA World Tag Team Champions. The crowd goes wild and the wrestlers, including Atlas, Reed, The Boogie Woogie Man and The Fabulous Ones rush to the ring to join in the celebration!

The screen fades to black!

First Battle of Atlanta, and the first USWA Live National TV Special. I've been looking forward to see how this plays out.

It's nice to see Bam Bam Bigelow's early rise to fame. A couple of wins now, showing off the big man's potential. I like this.

Interesting to see a relatively clean finish with the Fabulous Ones losing to the Sheepherders. It makes sense, I would have done the same thing I believe. I like that the heels are strong going into the main event and the finals of the World Tag Team Title tournament.

House of Humperdink getting DQ'd so close to the finals!?! Well, getting to lay out Lawler and Rich is enough of a prize for the villains here. Gives the faces sympathy going into the main event. Great stuff.

A really fun brawl in the Boot Camp Match. Memphis bloody brawling, just what I expect. Shogunate getting the win AND tons of heat post-match will make the upcoming TVs even more compelling in my eyes.

Speaking of Memphis brawling...Reed vs Ladd, doesn't even start. Just a brawl in the aisle until officials break them apart. What's next for these two?!

This was one match I was totally looking to forward to. Who will lose their belt? And how would it happen? I am very surprised Piper did the pinfall loss on National TV. Doesn't sound like a Piper thing, but where he goes from here will tell that story. Atlas better make damn sure he uses that to elevate his career to super-stardom. Piper doesn't just lose like that to just anyone. And where does that Southern Heavyweight Title go from here?

I like Idol as the champion here. He takes an ass kicking, shows he's a tough competitor lasting throughout the beating. The false title change sequence was a good touch. The crowd pops thinking its a title change. Then Brody chases Riddle away, they announce the DQ finish and Idol retains, good heat.

Finals. Blood and hot action. New champs, the crowd goes home happy and the TV audience sees a celebrations with some of USWA's top stars congratulating the new champions.

Really fun show. I enjoyed the entire thing. I don't usually comment on the majority of shows, because I like to see where things go. So I just keep my thoughts simple, but this was a big show and I thought I should give comments on most of the angles going. Great action, Leaves some open possibilities going towards the future. Really well done.

Patrick,

Thanks for the detailed review. I think in some cases you gave more thought to certain angles than I did when working on them and for that I am grateful. Not sure I put enough thought into the Piper/Atlas finish and not sure what to do next with Piper or Atlas to tell you the truth. Maybe a clean victory was not the way to go.

MATCH: House of Humperdink Challenge: Cousin Bubba vs Wendell Cooley

This is the first match for Cousin Bubba as a member of the House of Humperdink. The fans at the First Battle of Atlanta were stunned when he turned on his relatives to help Sir Oliver Humperdink’s men win the loser leave town match. Tonight, he tries to protect Humperdink’s money and win in less than 5 minutes or else Cooley gets $5000.00.

As for this match it is a total squash match with Bubba throwing Cooley all over the ring and using his 375+ pound frame as a weapon in some major collisions. The end came with a huge running splash at just 2:12 into the match.

Sir Oliver Humperdink and Cousin Bubba head to the interview desk where Russell asks Bubba how could he turn on his family? Humperdink interrupts and starts to yell at “Pencil Nose” Russell saying that the men next to him will no longer be known as Cousin Bubba and going forward this monster of a man will be called Crusher Ottman! Humperdink goes on to say that if Russell or Solie have any questions for this new member of his stable that they should address Humperdink. He says he is now paying Crusher Ottman a lot of money to hurt people and not to speak to these low life fans. The studio audience really let’s Humperdink have it now. Gordon Solie turns the interview in another direction when he asks Humperdink about his future plans. Humperdink says that within 6 months his stable will control both the USWA World Championship and the USWA World Tag Team Championships but that his immediate goal is to rid the wrestling world of that commie scum, Korstia Korchenko. This time the fans start to cheer. Humperdink does not seem to care as he says “look at these clueless rednecks here tonight. They are so uneducated that they do not even know if they like me or not. Humperdink and Crusher Ottman begin to walk off when all of a sudden Korchenko and two other “Russian looking” men attack Ottman. Ottman gives it his best go but it is 3 on 1. Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez Hernandez hit the scene and Korchenko and his friends run off. As we go to break, Solie is heard saying, “Uhhh, what was that all about?

MATCH: The Fabulous Ones vs Bam Bam Bigelow & Shane Douglas

In a pretty good tag match that had a few momentum turns, both teams gave the fans just what they wanted. It is rare to see two teams of fan favorites going at it but this match remained civil from start to finish. The Fabulous Ones were able to overcome the rookies’ power advantage with some really good double team moves. Their experience was the key to the match and Stan Lane gained the pin on Douglas after a Russian Leg sweep. Both teams shook hands after the match and it is becoming more obvious that Bigelow and Douglas have a great future in this sport.

The Fabulous Ones went to the interview desk where Russell and Solie asked about their feelings about The First Battle of Atlanta where they lost the semi-final match for the USWA World Tag Titles to the Sheepherders. Lane and Keirn both said they lost fair and square and that they were not making any excuses but they feel that they can still beat the Sheepherders and that they would love a shot at the Sheepherders USWA National Tag belts. The crowd begins to boo as JR Foley leads the Sheepherders out to the interview desk. Foley begins to pretend to cry and says that the Fabulous Ones sound like a bunch of 3 year olds who lost their favorite blanket. He tells them to face it and they lost and there is no way the Sheepherders are going to give the Fabulous Ones a title shot! Lane and Keirn answer back saying the Sheepherders are just afraid of a rematch. The two teams begin to get closer together as the situation heats up. Lance Russell asks that both teams keep their cool.

Jerry Jarrett walks out and tells both teams to cool it. He takes the microphone and says that it is not up to the Sheepherders who they face in their title defenses and that they will wrestle whoever the USWA Board of Directors deems to be the number 1 contender. The Fabulous Ones begin to smile at this announcement. Jarrett tells them not to get to excited because they are not yet the #1 contenders. Stan Lane asks what is meant by yet. Jarrett announces that tomorrow night on WTBS, there will be a tag team match between the Fabulous Ones and Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez. The winner will face the Sheepherders for the USWA National Tag Titles at Memphis Roundhouse Revival on April 23rd. The Sheepherders don’t seem to like either of these options but the Fabulous Ones seems satisfied at the news. Jarrett asks that both team leave the interview area and he calls out The Perfect Stable of Rock Riddle, The Kansas Jayhawks and the USWA World Heavyweight Champion, Austin Idol.

Jarrett begins to announce who the #1 Contender is for Austin Idol’s belt but Rock Riddle interrupts. He is furious that Dutch Mantell and Bobby Jaggers were not included in that tag match to determine who faces the Sheepherders. Riddle continues by saying that he understands why and that it must be because his perfect team must be wrestling for the World Titles vs Rich and Lawler and not the National titles.

Jarrett says that the #1 Contenders for the World Tag Titles has yet to be decided but for Riddle not to interrupt again. Jarrett continues on to announce that Austin Idol will be wrestling the Boogie Woogie Man, Jimmy Valiant for the World Title on April 23rd. The Perfect Stable goes nuts saying that Valiant is so unpredictable and that it is unfair to make Idol wrestle him. They are screaming how nuts Valiant is when the music starts to blare from the speakers. Jimmy Valiant struts out as only he could and begins jiving and talking and bobbing and weaving. He is so energized by the news and seems ready for Idol now. The Perfect Stable realize they have a numbers advantage and start to creep in towards Valiant. Jerry Jarrett sees this and says one more thing. If any member of the Perfect Stable lays a hand a Valiant before April 23rd , Idol will be stripped of his title. The Stable starts to yell and scream while Valiant is now really up in their faces.

Gordon Solie, smiling, announces “we will be right back after these messages.

Piper’s Pit with Special Guest Roddy Piper

EryMgg8s.jpg?2

Roddy Piper makes his way out to the set and sits in one of the two chairs that are there. The Sheepherders follow Piper out and stand behind him with their arms folded.

Piper calls out none other than himself and in the strangest Piper’s Pit to date, he basically stands up to ask himself questions and then sits down to answer them. He basically spends the next 5 minutes berating himself for losing his match at the First Battle of Atlanta to Tony Atlas and being stripped of his USWA Southern Championship. By the end, he is so worked up that he begins to beat himself with his own microphone. The fans are scarred as they have never seen anyone so angry and crazed. He begins to say he is sorry to himself and he will get revenge on Tony Atlas for the loss. As the interview ends, he is basically foaming at the mouth and it looks like it would not matter if Tony Atlas was Superman and that the next time Atlas and Piper meet, Atlas could be in serious trouble

Interview with Ernie Ladd

Ladd comes out and Solie and Russell ask him about his match with Hacksaw Reed at the Omni from The First Battle of Atlanta. Ladd goes on to discuss how USWA might not be big enough for Reed and himself to co-exist. He talks about how evident the hatred is between both men and that the match could not even get started. He also discuss how Reed has fallen into the dark side of right and wrong and has become nothing but a Big Uncle Tom. He than walks off set.

MATCH: Thunderbolt Patterson vs Brett Wayne

Gordon Solie begins by saying what a treat the fans are going to be in as he has been calling Thunderbolt Patterson’s matches for quite some time in Georgia and that he is really some kind of special wrestler. As the match begins, Patterson, a large black man, uses some pretty big body slams to gain the advantage. In a rare show of frustration, Brett Wayne tried to turn the tide with some dirty tactics but Patterson seemed to relish in this form of a match and started throwing huge right hands.

06C0NaMs.jpg

Gordon Solie is heard saying, “Now Waitaminute. What is Ernie Ladd doing at ringside?” Patterson seems to proceed in the match with a lot more caution now that Ladd is at ringside. A few times Ladd appeared to be getting ready to get in the ring and interfere in the match. The end came after a huge headbutt was followed up by a thunderous bodyslam. After ref Jerry Calhoun counted out Brett Wayne, Ladd jumped up on the apron and moved towards Patterson. Patterson began to inch towards Ladd and it looks like the two were about to brawl. All of a sudden, Lance Russell is heard saying, “What in the Sam Hill?” as Ladd and Patterson break into a huge smile and hug each other. The fans are shocked as they thought Patterson was on their side. Gordon Solie is all so in shock and wonders if Patterson is the re-enforcements to Ladd’s Army that the Big Cat has been talking about for the last few weeks.

Match: Private Kernodle vs The Spoiler

In a great back and forth match, the end came when the Spoiler had an armbar on Kernodle as he walked across the top rope. He leaped off the rope and, as he released the armbar, caught Kernodle with an elbow to the neck. This knocked Kernodle to the canvass and the Spoiler took this opportunity to put on the Brain Claw. After a minute or two of struggling, Kernodle was forced to submit. Kernodle continue to writhe in pain as the Spoiler refused to break the hold. All of a sudden, blood started to trickle down the face of Kernodle. The Spoiler’s Claw is so strong that he may cause internal damage. The bleeding becomes heavier as Solie announces that Pvt. Kernodle is wearing a crimson mask. The Spoiler still refuses to release the hold and the TV screen becomes censored due to the amount of blood. From the back, rushes in Cpl. Kirchner. The Spoiler high tails it to the locker room just before Kirchner hits the ring. The place a towel over Kernodle’s head and Kirchner escorts his Ft. Bragg Brother back to the locker room.

Match: Tommy Rich & Jerry Lawler vs The Nightmares

In a nice treat for the fans, the newly crowned champs defend their belts on National TV. This match will be a time remaining match as the show is running out of time. As for the match, the Champs control the momentum. It appeared the champs would gain the victory by pin as Wildfire caught Nightmare #1 with a flying cross body block but as he went for the pin, The Shogunate hit the ring. Mr. Saito, Killer Khan and Tojo Yamamoto took advantage of the numbers and really laid it on the champs. As Gordon Solie announced “so long from Memphis,” the Champs laid flat on their backs, faces covered in green Asian Mist from Khan and both being Suplexed by Saito. The foreign invaders smiled for the cameras and seemed really pleased with their work.

USWA WRESTLING: 3/25/1984: WTBS

SHOW AIRED NATIONALLY

5:05-6:05

TAPED IN MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

47BZr7Xs.jpg?2

“Yello again everybody. Welcome to USWA Wrestling here on WTBS. I am Lance Russell along with Gordon Solie. We have a jam packed show tonight so let’s ring in our first guest.”

Korstia Korchenko and the two goons who attacked Crusher Ottman and Sir Oliver Humperdink walk out to the interview desk.

Lance Russell begins by asking who the two men with Korstia are. Korchenko replies that they are Alexis Smirnoff and Chris Markov and together they make up the IRON CURTAIN. Gordon Solie asks why these men have joined Korchenko here in the USWA. All three take turns answering in broken English but all three have the same message. They are sick and tired of the American bureaucracy and that the American people are so misguided that when even low-life’s like Sir Oliver Humperdink do wrong to Russian people that Americans are happy. They vow revenge on Humperdink and his entire stable. They warn the American people to watch the next match to see what is going to happen to any American wrestlers who get in their way.

Match: The Iron Curtain vs Sweet Brown Sugar, Brett Wayne and Steve Simpson.

The three Russians head to the ring in their Soviet gear and are waving the flag of the Soviet Union. The fans are really angry at this display of patriotism for our arch-enemy. As for the match, it is one of total destruction. The Iron Curtain just refuses to listen to the ref and took a lot of liberties with the rules. The end came after Steve Simpson was whipped into the ropes and Alexis Smirnoff followed it up with a Heart Punch. The punch was so violent that the medics came to the ring after the match and this is when TV went to break.

MATCH: Mr. Saito vs Wendell Cooley

As expected, Mr. Saito gets a rude welcome from the fans in studio but he doesn’t seem to care. Saito is all business in this match and beats the rookie in under 4 minutes when he connected with a Saito Suplex for the pin.

Mr. Saito and the rest of the Shogunate, Tojo Yamamoto and Killer Khan head to the interview desk where Solie and Russell question them on why they attacked Tommy Rich and Jerry Lawler last night on TV. Tojo takes control of the interview and begins by asking Mistah Russell if he remember 1975? Russell says he does but has no idea what Tojo is talking about. Yamamoto continues on. “1975, I took Tommy Rich under my control. I showed him the ropes of this sport. I was his tag team partner many, many times. I taught him how to win and that the fans don’t matter. I should him everything that has made him a success. He comes to the USWA and has turned his back on me. He acts like I did not make him what he is today. He cares about what the fans think. He cares about Jerry Lawler thinks. He has lost his focus. He has lost his way and we, the Shogunate, are going to take the World Tag Title from him.

The crowd erupts as Tommy Rich comes to the interview desk and goes right at Yamamoto. Rich says all Tojo taught him how to do is cheat. To take shortcuts. To break the rules and try to injure others. That is not how his mother raised him and in 1975, he was just young and dumb and was wrong to follow Tojo. He lets Tojo know that Lawler and he are ready for a fight anytime. Yamamoto and his goons feel that this is as good a time as any and attack Rich. The 3-1 is too much for him to take and Rich is beaten down. The attack only lasts about a minute as Lawler, Reed and Atlas rush to his aid and chase the Shogunate away.

MATCH: Tony Atlas and Butch Reed vs The Nightmares

Atlas and Reed are just too strong for the Nightmares who really give a valiant effort. The end came in about 5 minutes when Reed lifted up Nightmare #1 in a Gorilla Press Slam and smashed him into the canvass.

The winners go to the interview desk where Atlas says he is ready to take on that nut job Piper anytime the USWA Board of Directors wants. Reed starts to call out Ernie Ladd and when Solie asks if he is concerned with the newest member of Ladd’s Army. Reed asks if he means OLD MAN PATTERSON and Solie warns Reed not to take him lightly. Reed and Atlas laugh and ask if this is professional wrestling or an old age home.

#1 Contenders Match for the USWA National Tag Titles held by the Sheepherders

The Fabulous Ones vs Buzz Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez

The fans are on the edge of their seats for this one. Sir Oliver Humperdink leads Sawyer and Hercules Hernandez to the ring. Humperdink has Buzz Sawyer on a dog leash while Hernandez has a huge chain around his neck which makes him look even stronger than he is. The House of Humperdink seems ready for this one. The Fab Ones come out to “Sharp Dressed Man” and the young ladies in studio are going wild.

The match is wild with many different momentum changes. The House of Humperdink came close to a victory when Sawyer nailed a top rope frog splash on Lane but Keirn made the save. Later, Keirn had Hernandez in an inverted Boston Crab by Hercules was able to reach the ropes forcing the break. The end came when Sawyer tossed Lane into ref Paul Morton knocking him to the ground. Humperdink saw this as his chance and tossed a chair into Sawyer but Lane intercepted it. Lane was about to clobber Sawyer when he saw Paul Morton stirring and beginning to get to his feet. Lane SLAMMED the chair in to the mat which made a loud crash sound. Lane then tossed the chair to Sawyer just as Morton was beginning to turn back to the action. Lane feel backwards as if his was hit with the chair and laid flat on the mat. Ref Paul Morton saw Lane and saw the chair in Sawyer’s hand. He immediately called for the bell and disqualified the House of Humperdink. Gordon Solie is laughing and announces “What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Humperdink has one so many times by deceit he has finally gotten what he deserves.

With TV time winding down, The Iron Curtain rush to the ring and attack Sawyer and Humperdink while the Sheepherders hit the ring and go right for the Fabulous Ones. Just as the show was ending, Lance Russell was heard saying, “You cannot believe the mayhem. Four of the best tag teams in the world are brawling it out all over the studio.”

Gordon Solie ends the show with “So long from Memphis.”

The Credits roll while the chaos continues. The screen fades to black.

I love the idea of Piper interviewing himself. Few if any could every get away with something like this like he did.

I don't know if I am fully on board with the rookies of Shane Douglas and Bam Bam but I do think there is potential but the pairing just has me confused.

USWA is going slowly but surely... I do think you have transitioned well and put together a top product in the world of wrestling we've created. Consistency is key and you've kept right up there with it.
