Hulk Hogan vs Jake Roberts

Ive heard the WWF shot an angle when Jake was a heel that ended up with Roberts dropping Hogan with a DDT. The problem was there were audible cheers after the DDT and that WWF and Hogan panicked and the segment was never run

Is this true? and did they ever have a house show run?

The segment ran in the area where they wrestled, I think it was Providence, RI where they did two matches. They also wrestled in Winnipeg, and Jake's promo for that one was on youtube for awhile. That was right before WM3, and I think he'd already taped his face turn before they actually had their match, just hadn't aired nationally yet.

Jake claimed years ago that the program was torpedoed because he was getting face heat and "DDT" chants in the matches. Seems to me the timing, in early 87, wasn't right for it to succeed, with Jake well on his way to becoming a face and Hogan gearing up for Mania 3 vs Andre

Cagematch lists two Hogan/Jake matches in Providence, in December '86 and a rematch next month; and then another one in Winnipeg at the end of February '87. That one seems especially strange timing, it was apparently his last match as a heel during that run. And he'd already been having some matches against other heels like Kamala (who wasn Hogan's main house show opponent at the time), Randy Savage, Butch Reed, and a whole mini-feud with King Kong Bundy. So either the office was capable of some truly spectacular multi-tasking as it played different storylines out at different speed in different markets, or they were just so damn busy and crazed with cocaine exhaustion that they frequently lost track of what was going on.
