[2000-01-08-MPPW-TV] Trailer Park Trash vs Steve Bradley (Street Fight)

This was quick but a street fight with much more intensity than the hardcore Funk vs. Bret match. Trash is someone that I have a good soft spot for as his brawling style really works for me in a no-nonsense arena like here. Cornette is at ringside but doesn't add a lot to the proceedings. An odd finish where Flash comes out and helps Trash pick up the win and then starts to beat on him. This was good in showing that PPW was still churning out decent tv segments in 2000. **

Short but really fun and fully fleshed out, with a strong beginning, middle and end. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the hypocrisy of a match Cornette probably helped layout having a guy go through a table as a mid-match spot with the babyface (Trailer Park Trash) not even going for an immediate pin and the guy who took the bump (Steve Bradley) actually coming back to his feet within a minute or so, but other than that, there is nothing I would point out about this in a negative way. They cut a hard pace, and Bradley looks like a future prospect, which makes it a big shame that he didn't work out. I usually hate the spot where the guy goes for a chairshot and the other guy moves so the chair bounces off the ropes and hits the perpetrator in the face, but it was executed so well here that I really liked it - maybe the best I've ever seen that spot. If it wasn't for that miraculous recovery after the powerbomb through the table, I'd probably go *** on this even with it only clocking in at around five minutes, but that keeps it from hitting that level for me.

Wrestling needs more guys like Trailer Park Trash. Guys with overinflated perceptions of their fighting ability who are kind of outclassed when matched up with real athletes. This was solid. I thought Trash's offense looked kind of soft but that's really the only thing that bothered me. Character-wise it made sense but it was funny to see Bradley slap on a chinlock in the middle of the streetfight. Bradley does indeed look promising, although kind of bland.

Finish was a bit confusing as Cornette appears to be distracting the ref long enough for Trash to not get the pin but the ref just turns around and counts the pin after a short delay.

This was pretty much your Raw Hardcore Title defense, a very short but fun garbage match. Trailer Park Trash is a guy I've never seen before but immediately like. He looks like Kenny Powers who ended up as a wrestler instead of a baseball player. Pretty enjoyable match although I also kind of laughed at Cornette right in the middle of this helping set up a goofy table spot that he'd rant about if he were reviewing the match on his podcast.

This was a fun hardcore match, but it was a bit short. I think these guys could have put something really good together if they were given more time. Trash looks as scummy as you would expect and is a guy I would like to see more of. I remember always reading around this time period about how good Steve Bradley was and how he was going to be a star in the WWF. Unfortunately, I think the WCW buyout hurt his career. Bradley looked good in this and you could see that he had a lot of athleticism and potential.

Bradley is managed by Jim Cornette and this is a ‘trailer park’ street fight. TPT with a garbage can to the head and he then throws Bradley to the outside. They fight on the floor and Bradley whips Trash into the apron. He pulls a chair from under the ring and goes to hit him with it, however Trash moves, he hits the ropes, the chair rebounds off them and he hits himself in his own head. Back in the ring and Trash with a powerbomb. He places the lid of the garbage can under Bradley’s head, climbs to the top turnbuckle, but misses with the legdrop and lands on the lid as Bradley moves. Bradley with a garbage can shot to the head of Trash and then one with the lid for a near fall. Moonsault off the bottom and then middle ropes for another near fall. ‘Smash mouth’ (which is like a twisting reverse DDT/Gator Breaker) from Bradley and with Cornette’s help he pulls out a table and sets that up in the ring. He sits TPT on the top turnbuckle for a Frankensteiner, but Trash reverses it and powerbombs through the table. Trash with a DDT and Cornette is up on the apron. He throws his tennis racket to Bradley before Trash flips him into the ring. He’s about to DDT Corny when Bradley levels him in the back with the racket. The referee tries to get Cornette out of there, Bradley climbs to the top for a moonsault when out comes Flash and nails Bradley with a fire extinguisher. He falls backwards to the canvas and Trash makes the cover for the three. As he celebrates the win Flash DDT’s him and TPT is left laying as the show goes off the air.

My first viewing of Steve Bradley who the Observer used to rave about, and I can certainly see why the likes of Jim Cornette and Les Thatcher were so high on him. Trailer Park Trash looks like his name suggests, but based on this match he looked good and a solid worker. I would imagine it was this look that held the WWF back from signing him when they were picking up a lot of the OVW talent. Good little TV match here.

This is my first time seeing Bradley having only knowledge of his rep as an RVD-type guy but I came out of this more into TPT, purely on look alone, mind you. I thought this was a fun little brawl but could have done without the extra minute or two after the table spot; I thought that looked good enough and felt like something that would have solidified this match as a great sub-5 minute sprint if it had ended but we had to get extra shenanigans. Enjoyable enough.

I'm not familiar with Trailer Park Trash, but he seems like a dirtier version of Sandman (if that is even feasible to think of). Steve Bradley's work I'm familiar with as he had a lengthy run after this with IWA in Puerto Rico and this match explains a lot of it. His run there had several hardcore matches as he held the hardcore title there and it featured a lot of stuff similar to this.

Despite being given a limited amount of time, they worked real around it and didn't make this feel rushed. Bradley hitting a big move before stumbling outside looking for the table and setting up the table was a nice touch. A lot of guys struggle to do this and just hit whatever and run to grab the table to setup their spot while the other guy is just laying there waiting for the table spot to get setup. This wasn't the case here though.

I liked how they opted not to get juice as they were restricted on time and didn't really go over board with the excessive use of weapons which was the case in a lot of hardcore matches from around this time.

This would have benefited had it gone on a little longer.

That being said, this was fine.
