Shinya Hashimoto vs Takao Omori

Hash. Damaged goods after the godawful career killer feud with Ogawa, but still, not a lot of guys had *that* presence. Maybe Choshu. Nah, Hash was even greater than Choshu. This is as simplistic as it gets. Omori is blonde, which means he's an asshole. That's how Japan works. Omori is a dick but he's NOAH's dick and he'll try resist and take down Hash with simple lariatos. Hash kicks him hard. Stiff, to the point. How to get the most in less than ten minutes. Gotta love fucking "strong style", before it became a tagline for smart ass fans and indy announcers. Gotta love Japan. And Hash is puroresu in its purest form. Very good short match.

This was great. Hashimoto is the best. Seriously. He comes into Noah and totally wrecks Omori, but he also allows Omori to get some stuff in that actually has the fans believing he's going to pull off the upset. The length of this was perfect for the match they worked too.

Hashimoto has such a presence and his "no fucks given" offense was perfect, as he hacks at Omori with chops and blasts him with stiff kicks. Big dumb surfer Omori sold the potential KO and has just enough to prevent the first brainbuster attempt, landing a lariat in the corner, a second for a two, following up with the dragon suplex hold for his only real nearfall of the match before Hash kicks him in the face and spikes him with brainbuster for the win. Short and pretty sweet.

It pains me to say this but this wasn't very good. It was fine when they were striking each other but otherwise flat. Omori's comeback was crowd-pleasing but weak offensively and Hashimoto didn't put him away with anywhere near the authority you'd expect. This was meant to be the start of some huge Zero-One vs. NOAH feud and Hashimoto vs. Misawa dream match that never materialized but we've seen these "invasion" angles done so much better in the past. Hashimoto looked like he was still shaking off the cobwebs from all his downtime this year and his aura still seemed damaged to me. I love Hashimoto -- everything about his presence and his aura give me the chills -- but this was a terrible year for him.

Hashimoto in NOAH! The most famous match of his run given the reputation of it. It’s ungodly violent and stiff, especially with Hashimoto in the driving seat. I believe the story goes that it was even too much for Omori, who isn’t anyone to mess with in his own right and complained, thus ending his NOAH career. But this, Hashimoto is a god and comes off like one in the match. I’m not that aware of Omori’s matches but I love his blonde look. He looks so badass and sleazy. The story of the match is very simple and short. Omori fires off slaps and stiff palm strikes and Hashimoto returns with harder slaps and fucking brutal kicks to the chest/neck. Hashimoto dominates the match but Omori doesn’t go down without a fight. His little hope spot, which was a few lariats and a dragon suplex pin, gets a ton of heat. It was short but awesome. And the finish was just as violent. One big chop and a brutal brainbuster for the win. ***1/2

Shiny Hashimoto vs Takao Omori - NOAH 12/23/00

HASHIMOTO IN NOAH~! Inoki fired him and the early Zero-One was based on an interpromotional feud with NOAH before feuding with Tom Howaes & UPW. Omori is the perfect sacrificial lamb for Hashimoto in his debut match. He has some credibility but he is not a pillar or Takayama so he he can eat it. Did Hashimoto ever face Takayama that would’ve been killer?

Short but sweet match coming off the INSANE firefight between Fujinami & Hashimoto in October this slugfest looks tame, but it is still better than the current New Japan Fighting Spirit Breakdowns. Hashimoto is the better striker chopping Omori down and great kicks. He Jabs his fingers into Omori  throat on a headlock to boos from the NOAH faithful. The finish is efficient and compact. Hashimoto looks like he is going to squash Omori but Omori drives him hard into buckles great selling by Hashimoto as it is his selling that piques the NOAH fans interest. Two big lariats by Omori plus a Dragon Suplex gives him his big heat fall. Omori winds up for the lariat but HASHIMOTO CHOPS HIM DOWN WITH EDGE OF HIS HAND! Massive Kick and Brainbuster does Omori in.

Great debut for Hashimoto! Made him look like Hashimoto The Destroyer! Omori is legit so I liked his quick flurry. Nothing nobody needs to see but it was still fun. ***
