Well, Sin Cara keeps getting in fights, so maybe the blame should go towards the guy who seems to have an anger issue?

Jericho and Sin Cara have been in the exact same number of fights backstage this year. Sin Cara's fight with Simon Gotch was apparently Gotch's fault considering that even though Gotch was the one who got his ass kicked he still got punished for the fight and got taken off the road. While Jericho getting into it with Lesnar was Jericho being a fucking dumbass who wasn't even smarter than the idiots online who swore that Brock was shooting on Randy and going into business for himself.

Are we sure about that, or did Gotch just get punished because he lost the fight? I could see WWE being that petty.

Jericho by all accounts expect his say he lost this fight, but Hunico was the one tossed of the bus

I believe so. I've seen a few thousand WoS bouts so I'm a bit foggy on the details, but they would occasionally have a surprise victory late in the final round when a draw seemed inevitable. Perhaps the reason you see so many falls happen early in the round is to shorten the length of the bout. The standard length of a TV (at least in the 70s) was four rounds. I saw so many of those that I ended up calling them "four rounders." My guess is that they were shaving time, though most of the bouts were joined in progress on the actual WoS broadcast and picked up where the scoring began.

Later on, when wrestling was a standalone show, they would edit out entire rounds. You' skip from the 2nd round to the 5th and then you'd have a pinfall or a submission without seeing what happened in the 3rd or 4th round. That always bugs me.

I put the Danny Spivey shoot interview on, just for some background noise, and heard his story about the backstage fight with Adrian Adonis. Does anyone know if Meltzer ever reported anything about it in the WON? Based off what I've been able to find as far as searching for info on it. It seems to have taken place in May of '86 at the Flint, MI show.

Was thinking about the crowd reaction in BJW. The crowd always seems to be dead at the start of the main event and doesn't seem to get into the match until half way through usually. Now these main events with Okayabashi, Sekimoto, Twin Towers, Suzuki, etc are awesome matches but the crowd always seems to start off disinterested and then comes on hot at the end, especially at the Korakuen. I think I figured out the problem, the booking of these shows. Every single title match main event at the Kokakuen has to follow at least 3 body disfiguring deathmatches with barbed wire, lighttubes, glass, etc. No wonder why the fans seem uninterested. So what I wanted to know, is if BJW toned it down, would they have a hotter crowd for the main event?

I thought there was a thread about this but couldn't find it but I don't want to start another one. I realized that I've been getting more enjoyment out of collecting whole shows or comps than just individual matches. I love getting whole Georgia shows or Continental or random WAR or FMW shows and comps.

The problem inherent to any deathmatch/hardcore company is violence fatigue. I wouldn't say "tone it down" so much as I'd suggest restructuring the cards. The largest spectacle should end the show, so maybe put the No Ropes Barbed Wire Urethra Firecracker Last Man Standing match at the end and gradually build up to it.

The "escalation of violence" idea works just as great for overall cards as it does individual matches.

So I fell down a 80s WWF TV rabbithole on YouTube, and it made me wonder why they changed the style of the WWF belt so many times in such a short period.

In 83 they went from the 70s WWWF style belt to the big green belt, which was understandable since the older one was looking pretty dated at that point. By 85 they already replaced that with the one that had the same design as the NWA regional belts (TV, National), only to replace that with the one used in the buildup to WM 3 complete with a giant sized custom version made in the event Andre won. It was barely a year after that they finally ended up with the Winged Eagle that lasted all the way to the Attitude Era.

It's not like they were big on selling replicas back then (although I did have a snazzy 85 style belt buckle back in the day), so it always puzzled me why they would change it so frequently.

I really, really like the green belt. Everyone has a hard on for the 88-98 winged eagle, but I have an affinity for the green belt even though it was before my time. What's really weird is the belt Hogan wore for The Main Event with Andre, as it was basically a blend of winged eagle and the Attitude Era belt, but was only used for that one show. It was different from the winged eagle title from WM 5 to 14.

Watching some Network stuff and came across a squash match from July 95 Raw between Jean Pierre Lafite & David Thornberg.

Whats the general consensus on JPL. Thought he looked pretty athletic here and haven't really seen much of him otherwise.

I've been tempted to start an Oulette vs Owens thread on the basis that they're both 300lb wrestlers from Quebec.

Neither were/are 300 pounds, but they do share a pretty similar in ring style of overweight looking guys for their era who were nevertheless very athletic and huge bumpers. There's certainly a lot of overlap, imo. I assume it's probably somewhat intentional since Pierre was one of KO's trainers. And considering Jacques was the other trainer, I'm sure Pierre was the one who did all the work.
