You're basically taking the classic Jim Crockett approach, as I could see: you take all of the major feuds and you sometimes put them together to steal the house during a card. Personally, I think that both our methods work; that's what makes this so appealing for this project; everyone seems to have its own method and it works.

Lutte Internationale TV

Taped at CHLT-TV Studios, Sherbrooke, QC

November 3rd, 1984

dieu.jpg

Different format this week as this edition of Lutte Internationale is a 2-hour episode with several matches. Exceptionally, no talking, all action as Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier run down the card for this week featuring George Steele and Dino Bravo

Match #1

The Rougeau Brothers vs Serge Jodoin & Tito Senza

The broadcast team hyped the Rougeaus facing the Sheepherders instead of the Midnight Express next Friday. They also inform the audience that due to some scheduling conflict with the Forum, the card is taking place at the Centre Paul-Sauvé but every ticket purchased so far will be honoured as much as possible for the building. The Rougeaus get the easy victory with La Bombe Rougeau on Serge Jodoin.

Winners: The Rougeau Brothers

*******COMMERCIAL BREAK**********

Match #2

Justice Dubois vs The Spoiler

The broadcast team hype both men’s match next Friday as Dubois will team with Leo Burke vs The Caribbean Connection while the Spoiler teams with Gino Brito face the Zambuie Express. The action transports itself on the outside as in the spirit of the brawl, Dubois accidentally ripped off The Spoiler’s mask! The Spoiler retreated backstage, covering his face so he couldn’t be identified by the audience in the studio.

Winner: Justice Dubois by countout

******COMMERCIAL BREAK*****

Match #3

Billy Robinson (w/Sherri Martel) vs Luke Williams

The broadcast team hype the possible future encounter with the International Tag Team Champions & the Sheepherders down the line. Robinson is able to show his more rugged side with Williams in this one. The end comes when Sherri Martel climbs on the apron to distract the referee, allowing Doug Somers to interfere but Butch Miller runs in and smacks Somers’ head on the ringpost. Miller gets in the ring and helps Williams hit the Double Gutbuster, allowing Williams to score the pinfall victory. Guy & Édouard wonder now when will the Sheepherders get their title match.

Winner: Luke Williams

**********COMMERCIAL BREAK*********

Match #4

Sika vs Rusher Kimura

The broadcast team plugs Rusher Kimura’s final match of his excursion as he’ll wrestle Doug Somers next Friday. Kimura still shows the effect of his brutal fight with Andre the Giant last week on Lutte Internationale with his ribs bandaged up. Sika uses that target to get the advantage and unfortunately for the Japanese import, Sika gets the victory with the Samoan Drop.

Winner: Sika

***********COMMERCIAL BREAK***************

Match #5

Charlie Cook vs Richard Charland (w/Frenchy Martin)

While he isn’t at ringside, the broadcast team announces that Charland’s tag team partner, Mad Dog Lefebvre will be defending the International TV Championship vs The Missing Link in a Street Fight. They also wonder what involvement will “Le Magnifique” have in the match, given that there are no DQs in this match. Richard Charland gets the victory with a piledriver on Charlie Cook.

Winner: Richard Charland

*******COMMERCIAL BREAK*********

Match #6

Nord the Barbarian (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman) vs Randy Rose (w/Jim Cornette)

Per the restraining order, of course, the Rougeaus are no longer in the building as this match takes place and Jim Cornette is visibly angry at ringside that his Midnight Express got shafted out of their encounter with the Rougeaus next week. And visibly, Randy Rose, too as the inexperience of The Brain’s newest recruit would come to cost him. Randy Rose gets the victory with his Corner Slingshot Splash.

Winner: Randy Rose

******COMMERCIAL BREAK*****

Match #7

Afa vs Greg “The Hammer” Valentine

The broadcast team discusses the recent gap between Greg Valentine and the rest of Frenchy’s Legion since he lost the International Heavyweight Championship to Rick Martel. At one point during the match, both Frenchy Martin & Richard Charland show up at the broadcast booth, getting the attention of Valentine, but they don’t budge. Towards the end of the match, an accidental forearm strikes referee Luigi Macera and he’s sent flying outside. Frenchy & Charland approach the ring, with Valentine assuming they’ll be helping him but they simply check on the referee. In the meantime, Sika runs in and switches places with Afa, nailing a distracted Valentine with the Samoan Drop. Finally, Frenchy sends the referee back in the ring as he counts the pinfall, seeing that “Afa” is pinning Valentine for the victory.

Winner: Afa

MAIN EVENT

Match #8

George “The Animal” Steele (w/Frenchy Martin) vs Dino Bravo

Despite both men not being currently booked for the supercard next week, Guy & Édouard both assume during the match that both men will be there and get involved in some capacity during the match. A very physical match very much enjoyed by the audience. As opposed to the preceding match, no interference whatsoever and as clean (under the circumstances, considering we’re talking about The Animal here) a match as it can be, with both men trading momentum back and forth. Steele thought he had the victory on Bravo after the hammerlock slam but Bravo miraculously kicked out. Dino Bravo picked up the victory with his patented side slam.

Winner: Dino Bravo

dieu.jpg

(After the opening credits, we go to the broadcast booth for the opening of this week’s episode.)

Guy Hauray: Hello, wrestling fans, and welcome to this week’s edition of Lutte Internationale. Last night was a chaotic night at the Centre Paul-Sauvé and the big story out of this supercard is the disgusting actions of Samu, who viciously beat Rick Martel to a bloody pulp, and stole his International Heavyweight Championship, despite losing by disqualification. As a result, Samu has been indefinitely suspended by Lutte Internationale and was asked to return the International Heavyweight title belt but neither Samu or Eddy Creatchman has returned any calls from Frank Valois. As we speak, we have no news on when or even if Samu will return that title belt to Rick Martel.

Édouard Carpentier: It was indeed a shocking night and the good news is that despite the severity of his beatdown last night, Martel has been cleared to compete in our joint live event with WWF tonight. But still, this must be so maddening to the champion, who wanted to make a statement by beating Samu and he couldn’t do it. But at least, he’s physically fine and he’ll be able to perform tonight. And we can bet that there’s gonna be a rematch in due time between Samu and Martel in 1985, if not before the end of the year.

Guy Hauray: Our main event this week will feature a Steel Cage Match as Frenchy’s Legion will take on The Missing Link and a partner of his choosing. Frenchy Martin will serve as George Steele’s tag team partner this week as Mad Dog Lefebvre is recovering from his match with The Missing Link last night in a Street Fight, although he’ll be in action tomorrow night in Ottawa as he’ll be defending his International TV Championship against Rick Rude. And we shall find out a bit later on who’ll be The Missing Link’s partner. But first, we’ve got 6-Men Tag Team Elimination action coming up so let’s get to it.

Match #1

6-Men Elimination Tag Team Match

Charlie Cook, Buzz Tyler & Pete Doherty vs The Midnight Express & Baron Von Raschke (w/Jim Cornette)

The broadcast team puts over the lingering issues between The Midnight Express and the Rougeau Brothers. They also talk about the incidents in last night’s match in which Rick Rude, who was replacing Raymond Rougeau, turned on Jacques Rougeau in the middle of the match. Baron Von Raschke is trying to fit in, as usual, clearly unaware of what’s going on. Anyway, the unlikely trio quickly disposes of the enhancement talents and secures the victory.

Winners: The Midnight Express & Baron Von Raschke

(After the match, The Midnight Express celebrate and Baron Von Raschke wants to be part of it but Condrey & Rose definitely aren’t sharing his excitement. That’s when, out of nowhere, NORVELL AUSTIN, runs from behind and attacks Von Raschke! It’s becoming quickly a 3-on-1 on Von Raschke as Condrey & Rose hit the Double Flapjack on Von Raschke while Norvell Austin hits his diving headbutt. Austin celebrates with Condrey & Rose and everyone makes their way to the broadcast booth.)

Édouard Carpentier: What did we just witness, Jim Cornette?

Jim Cornette: What you just witnessed, old man, is the reunion of the 3 founding members of the Midnight Express: Loverboy Dennis, Ravishing Randy and The Shadow himself, the REAL Adorable one, Norvell Austin. Adrian Adonis can go back to Mid-Atlantic as he didn’t get the job done so I placed a call to Norvell Austin and here he is, reunited with his old friends. Now, I know that there’s one more question that you’re dying to get the answer about and that’s why did Rick Rude, Billy Robinson & Doug Somers jumped Jacques Rougeau last night against the Sheepherders? Who do you think paid Rick Rude a hefty amount of money to do this? ME, JIM CORNETTE. See, the Rougeaus might have dodged us last night but they ain’t gonna dodge us forever. Last night was the first shot fired in the war and the biggest one hasn’t fired yet. I know for a fact that Jacques Rougeau is in action next and trust me, I got a vested interest in this one. We’re gonna get what we want out of this and we’re gonna keep exposing those snot nosed punk Rougeau kids for what they are!

(Jim Cornette leaves the ringside area with his new Midnight Express trio and returns backstage)

Guy Hauray: Well, we got our answer and as Jacques Rougeau is coming up next, we’re gonna see how he’ll respond to this situation.

Édouard Carpentier: If Jim Cornette is smart, he’s gonna get the hell out of here before Jacques Rougeau sees him. Lots of pent up frustration at the moment for him.

Guy Hauray: When we come back, Jacques Rougeau is in action!

*******COMMERCIAL BREAK******

Match #2

Nord the Barbarian (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman) vs Jacques Rougeau

During the match, the broadcast team hypes up the incident leading to Jacques Rougeau being left to fight the Original Midnight Express by himself and they’re wondering if the Sheepherders won’t seize the opportunity to challenge Hot Stuff Inc. – aka Billy Robinson & Doug Somers – while the Rougeaus settle their score with the Midnight Express. At one point, during the match, Nord the Barbarian accidentally collides in the corner with referee Luigi Macera and he goes down. Eddy Creatchman climbs on the ring apron and tosses his cane to Nord but Jacques Rougeau intercepts and clocks both Creatchman & Nord with it! Jacques covers Nord the Barbarian and the referee recovers just in time to make the pinfall.

As Jacques Rougeau celebrates, once again, Jim Cornette comes out and goes to the broadcast booth. Cornette asks for a microphone.

Jim Cornette: SEE, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT! I’m constantly being accused of being a cheater and yet, there ain’t no bigger cheaters than you, Rougeaus! Referee, get down here!

(Luigi Macera goes to the broadcast booth.)

Jim Cornette: Look, ref, I’m giving you the chance to make things right and you need to see this! Someone in the production truck, roll back the replay now!

(We then see the replay of what happened as Jacques Rougeau used Creatchman’s cane to knock both Nord the Barbarian and Eddy Creatchman. At the end of the footage, referee Luigi Macera goes talking to the ring announcer and the ring announcer announces that the referee is reversing the decision and has disqualified Jacques Rougeau for using a foreign object, awarding the match to Nord the Barbarian. Nord & Creatchman are celebrating as Jacques is fuming in the ring. He rushes out of the ring to get his hands on Cornette but Cornette goes hiding behind Édouard Carpentier.)

Jim Cornette: Don’t blame me, Rougeau! Blame the few brain cells you have and your hot French Canadian temper! You brought this all on yourself! You can’t run from us anymore! The day is soon approaching where you’ll have to wrestle my Midnight Express and this is a war you know you can’t win! And it’s gonna be glorious! And the best part about the whole thing is that we’re gonna have even more fun spoiling those big mystery projects that Frank Valois has for this territory more than beating your sorry rear-ends!

(Cornette retreats backstage again as referee Luigi Macera is able to calm down Jacques and accompanies him to the back.)

Guy Hauray: Indeed, ladies and gentlemen, Jim Cornette was right on one thing as promoter Frank Valois is working on something huge for Lutte Internationale and it seems evident that Jim Cornette is looking to spoil the party here.

Édouard Carpentier: It should definitely be something to keep our eye on but let’s hope Jim Cornette will have a shred of decency and let things develop for the sake of everyone involved.

Guy Hauray: When we come back, Gino Brito is in action!

********COMMERCIAL BREAK**********

Match #3

Serge Jodoin vs Gino Brito

The broadcast team hypes the brutal tag team match Brito was a part of with the Spoiler vs the Zambuie Express last night. Brito remains in tip-top shape though as he makes quick work out of Serge Jodoin, taking the victory with his Figure Four Leglock

Winner: Gino Brito

Match #4

Steel Cage Match

Frenchy’s Legion (George Steele & Frenchy Martin) vs The Missing Link & Luke Williams

It turned out that The Missing Link opted for one half of the Sheepherders as his tag team partner for the week in Luke Williams. And as expected, it got brutal and bloody in a heartbeat. Nothing too gory for that hour of the morning on Saturday but still, something that any wrestling fan would appreciate. The broadcast team explains that victory can be achieved by pinfall, submission or both team members escaping the cage. The end of the match came as Luke Williams and George Steele were brawling at one end of the cage. The Missing Link hits Frenchy Martin with The Final Solution and is able to make his way out of the cage for his team when out of nowhere, Mad Dog Lefebvre in street clothes, appears at ringside and slams the cage on The Link’s head! Link collapses on the canvas and Mad Dog climbs in the ring to put Frenchy Martin over The Missing Link’s body and forces referee Adrien Desbois to make the 3 count for the victory. This week’s episode ends as the International TV Champion Mad Dog Lefebvre stands tall over The Missing Link inside the cage.

Winners: George “The Animal” Steele & Frenchy Martin

NWA Lutte Internationale TV

Taped at CHLT-TV, Sherbrooke, QC

November 17th, 1984

dieu.jpg220px-Nwalogobw.jpg

(A slightly different opening intro this week. The logo of the NWA appears at the beginning of the opening credits. As we go on the air, Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier are standing in front of their broadcast booth, on which the NWA logo is built on front of the desk. Hauray & Carpentier are also wearing a jacket with the NWA logo on it.)

Guy Hauray: Hello, wrestling fans, and welcome to a very special edition of Lutte Internationale TV. As you can see, things are now a bit different and it’s for the best since as of yesterday, Lutte Internationale is now part of the National Wrestling Alliance. A truly historic moment that took place yesterday morning during a joint conference that featured promoters Frank Valois, Jim Crockett Jr & David Crockett. We will show you in its entirety the press conference, which includes some major announcements for the future, especially on Christmas night.

Édouard Carpentier: I think that the best part of this new affiliation is the prestige and exposure that our partnership with the National Wrestling Alliance will bring us. Just think about this now: Rick Martel is the NWA International Heavyweight Champion; Mad Dog Lefebvre is the NWA International TV Champion and Hot Stuff Inc are the NWA International Tag Team Champions. This is unheard of for a territory like us. The potential for future dream matches now is almost unlimited!

Guy Hauray: In our main event, this week, Gilles Poisson is in action vs Butch Miller from the Sheepherders. But first, our NWA International TV Champion will kick us off!

Match #1

NWA International TV Championship

UFO vs Mad Dog Lefebvre ©

Frenchy Martin is conspicuous by his absence but the broadcast team hypes the fact that it’s due to the Steel Cage Match main event that took place last week. The masked challenger is trying his damndest to build some offense but the champion is definitely in a class of his own. Guy & Édouard also plug during the match how Mad Dog Lefebvre is solidly building himself as a future contender to Rick Martel’s championship. Lefebvre retains his title with a backbreaker.

Winner: Mad Dog Lefebvre

********COMMERCIAL BREAK****

(Back from the break, Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier are standing in front of the broadcast booth.)

Guy Hauray: In just a few moments, we will show you in its entirety the press conference that took place yesterday morning with Frank Valois, Jim Crockett Jr & David Crockett about Lutte Internationale now being a member of the NWA. We have some huge announcements to talk about after this press conference is done.

Édouard Carpentier: This will be for sure an historic event and I don’t think we’ll find a more stacked card anywhere in the world when it’s all said and done.

Guy Hauray: Without any further adieu, let’s get to the press conference!

*****EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE*****

November 16, 1984

National Wrestling Alliance Press Conference

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

David Crockett steps out to the podium in front of the press and the TV cameras. He welcomes everyone to this special occasion. He says we are here for a couple of important reasons. First, and foremost. He is here to officially announce that as of today November 16, 1984, Lutte Internationale is a proud member of the NWA. The growing relationship between Mid Atlantic, the largest and most successful member of the NWA up until today, and Lutte Internationale, a major international player, has bred this incredible working relationship. On behalf of the National Wrestling Alliance and Mid Atlantic, we welcome Lutte Internationale!

Frank Valois takes the stand and first thanks the NWA Board of Directors, and especially Jim Crockett and the Crockett family for accepting the entry of Lutte Internationale into the NWA. He says that this is the biggest day in the history of Lutte Internationale and he’s very much looking forward to everything coming up, especially for Starrcade on Christmas night. Lutte has prided itself on offering the best wrestling product in Eastern Canada and they’re thrilled that they’ll be able to export their brand of pro wrestling in the United States and in the Mid-Atlantic territory. Valois says that it was only natural for him and Jim Crockett to work together down the road and the possibility to do it within the ranks of the National Wrestling Alliance is extraordinary. Valois plugs that he’s looking to retool a bit his roster to mold Lutte Internationale a bit like Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and also to maximize the dream matchups to give wrestling fans around the globe. Valois hopes that everyone is ready because it’s now gonna be a wild ride!

Jim Crockett Jr. is brought to the podium. He would like to take this opportunity to announce that not only are we welcoming Lutte Internationale to the NWA, but we are also going to announce the main event for Starrcade 1984! This huge event will take place in Greensboro, NC at the Greensboro Coliseum Christmas night. After a few weeks of discussion among the Board of Directors at the NWA, they have made a decision on the petition from Bob Backlund for a rematch against the NWA World Champion Ric Flair. The board has decided that Mr. Backlund does have a legitimate claim due to the events that happened in Atlanta. It also means that this will be an interpromotional battle, as Bob Backlund has recently returned to Lutte Internationale. Jim also says that due to the nature of the events leading up to this match, and the importance that this stays a one-on-one contest, the NWA has assigned a very special guest referee. This man is an Olympic Gold Medalist and former boxing World Heavyweight Champion, “Smokin’ Joe Frazier. On top of having a special guest referee, this match will also take place inside a steel cage!

Jim Crockett Jr. also announces that the NWA World Tag Team Titles will be on the line in Greensboro, with the current champions, The Fantastic’s taking on a team to be determined by Lutte Internationale in the coming weeks. Mr. Crockett also said that this major event will have 9 matches total. Three will be inter-promotional matches, three from Lutte Internationale and three from Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. The rest of the matches will be announced on the local television shows in the coming weeks. He teases a battle royal of some kind, with a major prize to be awarded to the winner.

Frank Valois comes back to the stand and before announcing his Lutte Internationale main event for Starrcade, he wants to make a few precisions about the NWA World Tag Team Championship match at the event. The Fantastics will indeed wrestle a tag team appointed by Lutte Internationale but this tag team will be known on December 2nd during a Lutte live event. First, there will be a 4-team elimination tag team match taking place between The Zambuie Express, The Wild Samoans, Jim Cornette’s Midnight Express and the one-night duo of Gilles “The Fish” Poisson & the legendary Mil Mascaras. The winning team of this 4-way tag match will move on to the night’s main event as they’ll wrestle the Rougeau Brothers. The winners of the main event will become the #1 contender's to the NWA World Tag Team Championship and will take on The Fantastics at Starrcade. Valois says that this is perhaps the biggest match in Lutte Internationale’s history as whoever wins that match will compete in a marquee match that will sell out any building in the Mid-Atlantic territory. Valois wishes the best of luck to all teams involved. As for the Lutte Internationale main event on that night, Valois says that there is unfinished business between International Heavyweight Champion Rick Martel & Samu, stemming for a violent match that took place last week. As a result, Samu had been suspended indefinitely because he had also stolen Rick Martel’s International Heavyweight title belt. At Rick Martel’s request, Lutte officials have decided to lift Samu’s suspension, effective on December 12 to allow Samu to prepare himself to a rematch with Rick Martel at Starrcade. Valois proudly announces that Rick Martel will defend the International Heavyweight Championship against Eddy Creatchman’s personal assassin, Samu. And given Eddy Creatchman’s recent implication in the previous matches between Martel & Samu, Eddy Creatchman will be suspended in a shark cage over the ring! Frank Valois says he cannot wait for Starrcade and he hopes that the fans will appreciate what Lutte will offer to them on Christmas night.

David Crockett comes back to the podium and thanks the press for coming. He hopes that they are as excited for this event as he is. He also hopes that with Lutte Internationale coming to the NWA, it will help continue to make the NWA the best wrestling organization in the world! Thank you for coming.

*****END OF FOOTAGE*****

Guy Hauray: So, Eddie, some huge announcements. First of all, Samu’s suspension will be lifted as of December 12 so he can take on Rick Martel at Starrcade on Christmas night in Greensboro, NC!

Édouard Carpentier: Some people might think that Rick Martel is insane to ask for yet one more match with Samu, a man he hasn’t beaten clean yet. However, knowing that Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman will be suspended in a cage over the ring to ensure he won’t interfere will definitely facilitate Rick’s preparation for the match.

Guy Hauray: And we can’t also forget about the HUGE NWA World Tag Team Championship match that will take place at Starrcade with The Fantastics defending his title against 1 of 5 Lutte Internationale teams that will compete in Chicoutimi on December 2nd to crown a new #1 contender for their championship! This is significantly the biggest tag team match in Lutte Internationale history! Who will come up victorious? We’ll find out at Starrcade but when we come back, it’s our main event between Butch Miller and Gilles Poisson!

Match #2

Butch Miller vs Gilles “The Fish” Poisson

The broadcast team hypes the fact that the Sheepherders aren’t included in the NWA World Tag Team Championship #1 Contender’s Match and assume that they’ll be granted an NWA International Tag Team Championship match vs Hot Stuff Inc at Starrcade. Butch Miller is in fine form and Gilles Poisson is giving him a good opposition. The end of the match came as one man dressed like Mil Mascaras made his way to the ring, distracting Butch Miller. Then, more men came out with different Mil Mascaras to surround the ring. That got Miller distracted long enough for Poisson to get the pinfall victory, via rollup. As Gilles Poisson left the ring, the broadcast team hyped the possibility of Gilles Poisson & Mil Mascaras causing an upset in this #1 Contenders Match. But then, the masked men take off their masks....IT’S HOTSTUFF INC. NWA International Tag Team Champions Billy Robinson & Doug Somers, along with Rick Rude are all standing outside mocking Butch Miller. The show comes to a close as Luke Williams rushes the ring to join Butch Miller while Hot Stuff Inc still taunts the Sheepherders outside.

Winner: Gilles “The Fish” Poisson
