On a very special episode of Burning Spirits, Drew and Brennan are joined by Kevin Wilson (@joshipuro) to provide an intro to the world of joshi in 2017.

We start by discussing the news and rumors surrounding Stardoms Kairi Hojo, Io Shirai, and Mayu Iwatani. After that Kevin gives us a breakdown of the joshi landscape currently, and we review three different matches from different promotions.

Finally, we finish with a wild Match of the Week. Kevin is a great guest who really knows his stuff, so if you have even a passing interest in joshi, this is the show for you!

Recommended matches from the show

-Hikaru Shida/Syuri vs Hiroyo Matsumoto/Kagetsu (OZ Academy 1/25)
-Arisa Nakajima vs Nanae Takahashi (SEAdLINNNG 01/26)
-Io Shirai vs Shayna Baszler (Stardom 2/23)

Loved the joshi episode went out of my way to watch the Shayna v Io match because of it I'm a huge Shayna sexual because I remember seeing her just at shows back when she was a nobody/UFC fighter so I'm super invested in her. I am also loving the recommended matches on the post it's helping me a lot in keeping up on Puro better in 2017

This week on Burning Spirits we deviate from the routine with a hefty sample platter from the medium three with some reviews and discussion about DDT, BJW, and AJPW. We start with DDT where we discuss a GREAT Extreme Title bout between Daisuke Sasaki and Dick Togo and an impromptu KO-D title challenge before moving onto the already infamous train wrestling match from last week. Moving onto Big Japan, we look at the #1 contenders match for the strong title and a squash match between Hideki Suzuki and Takuya Nomura that borders on uncomfortable. Finally, we give a quick rundown of the Champion Carnival TV schedule and some quick thoughts and predictions.

Recommended matches:

Konosuke Takeshita vs Akito 4/8
Daisuke Sasaki vs Dick Togo 4/15
Hideki Suzuki vs Takuya Nomura 4/10

Champions Carnival has ended up being pretty disappointing for me and I was glad to hear those thoughts echoed by the panel. Sure there were good matches here and there as you guys described through the cherry picking method but the overall consistency wasn't there and any emotion is drained watching the single cam shows. I do hope the final is exciting and I look forward to things like Mashimo vs Ishikawa's draw. Good discussion on the DDT show as well. One hour draws are one of my guilty pleasures in wrestling so I want to carve out time to watch Konosuke vs Endo. Brennan was probably lower on that match than any other I can recall through the duration of the show.

Really interested to see what you think of Takeshita/Endo when you get around to watching it.
