goc Posted December 22, 2016 Report Share Posted December 22, 2016 Saw a few different trustworthy accounts on twitter report that lucha legend Mocho Cota has died at the age of 62. I know he was a favorite among some of the posters here and did fairly well in the GWE poll for a guy who didn't seem to get much love before the 80s Lucha set got released. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of footage of him during his prime in the 80s but what we do have makes him look like an all time great rudo. One of the things about Cota that doesn't really come across in the footage we have is that he used to rent random costumes from fancy dress shops and wear them to the ring each week. I'm sure that his final days would've been made all the brighter by reading select English language wrestling forums. His match with Americo Rocca from 1/27/1984 is one of the great matches I have ever seen. His overall greatness was easily evident despite the limited amount of footage. RIP. It made him into almost an evil genius rather than just a trash talker. Does anyone know anything about Cota's listed maestro, Reveles Lopez? It looks like he was not a big name among trainers, which would mean that Cota got as far as he did without a boost from any kind of pedigree.
