Steve nervously tugged on his neck tie with all the subtlety of a hand grenade. With the sweat dampening his collar he looked around the dated motif in this deep southern office. As he looked around his mind went from wondering if it was hot in the office or if this was nerves. For that matter maybe they turned the heat up on purpose. Watch the interviewees squirm, some sort of sick appetizer before they got to the main course of verbally ripped unqualified guys like Steve apart in the meeting. How did he even know this was a serious interview? It could be Candid Camera or something similar.

Those random, fleeting thoughts replaced with a shot of confidence. Looking around the outdated office this is why he was here. It was 1985 and the future was going to wait for no man. Television executive, or unemployed husband alike. Trying to calm the rapid fire shaking of his leg he glanced up to see a secretary all but staring at him. What a sight he must be. In a cheap shirt and tie he bought from Gayfers up the road just moments ago, to his profuse sweating, to possibly even muttering to himself.

Why was he even here? He had a wife back home and they were living with her parents. Being young and married seemed like a good idea and deep down it was. Still though the point remained he moved down here to get that much talked about fresh start. People his age always seem to talk about after school and marriage this magical fresh start where they get their career, they get their home, their family and he wanted that. Now what any of that had to do with being in an outdated office in Dolthan, Alabama he didn't know.

Pro wrestling? Really? Sure it was all over television but nobody was making a living at it as an outsider. He was about half the size of these monsters and didn’t have the hard edge they were known for. Now he’s at a television station, applying for a job as a wrestling executive for a promotion he wasn’t even aware was a legitimate business...and maybe still isn’t aware its a legitimate business. None the less this was his dream. Marketing, Advertising, Writing, Creative, leadership, everything he wanted in a job rolled up into one. Maybe it was too good to be true. Maybe he should stop chasing dreams and start making practical decisions. They say two thirds of marriages end in divorce now that we’re in the eighties. He had a feeling if he didn’t get steady employment soon he’d be adding to that number.

He glanced at his digital Casio watch. It was only just after three if he left right now he could hand out resumes at the local offices in the area. He was already dressed for the part and this wasn’t going to work out for him. That was it, it was time for him to make something of his life. As he braced himself with his sweaty palms on the sturdy, cold, wooden arms of the chair as he rose out of the outdated, fashionable chair.

Mr. Stennick, sorry to keep you waiting but Mr. Woods is now ready to see you”

Steve turned into the view of a smiling David Woods with his hand outstretched ready for a traditional greeting. Steve glanced at the door, and back at the unsuspecting David Woods. With that Steve walked with purpose towards David and towards his dream.
