soup23 Posted January 10, 2017 Report Share Posted January 10, 2017 Sometimes these matches hit me and sometimes they just feel sloppy and clunky. This was in the latter portion as the beginning really felt like everyone was off a step and just didn’t have the intensity that they sometimes do. Things pick up with a big chairshot and the Tanaka tornado DDT spot through the table. Even something like Tanaka’s missile dropkick didn’t get much air. Finish runs through the same thing as the week before with Awesome’s big splash and the Bomb through the table. Every thing felt more crisp the week before. Loss Posted January 14, 2017 Report Share Posted January 14, 2017 I used to love this matchup and now I almost hate it. ECW ran the match into the ground, but more than that, these two didn't have enough variety in how they worked their matches. It's not that they don't have more than one good one, but if you've seen one in their series, you've seen most in their series. Badger Posted January 14, 2017 Report Share Posted January 14, 2017 This match up turned me on to the greatness of Japanese wrestling...that is to say, it showed me that there was a great big world of athletic hard hitting wrestling out there back in 2k. In retrospect however, their matches all blend together. In a way this was awesome when watching every week but, the fact that ECW was pretty well known for rebroadcasting matches in part or full on Hardcore TV and/or TNN didn't help matters any... GSR Posted April 25, 2017 Report Share Posted April 25, 2017 As expected, the same match they did the night before but with a couple of tweaks. Fortunately Awesome did ditch the suicide dive, and instead of the clothesline over the top rope to the floor, Tanaka backdrops Awesome onto the apron, forearms him to the floor and comes off the top with a crossbody before they go into their section on the outside. This is being recorded for TNN so after Tanaka kicks out of the first big splash he gets Jeff Jones to pass him a table into the ring. Same finishing stretch then with the Awesome Bomb off the top, but through the table deciding it. As I’ve said previously when seeing the same match being done twice, it loses it’s lustre second time around.
