[2000-02-01-CMLL] Atlantis & Emilio Charles Jr & Tarzan Boy vs Fuerza Guerrera & El Satanico & Villano III

Take the two hottest feuds in wrestling and combine them in one trio is a recipe for goodness. I didn’t think this quite reached the level of some of the other stuff based mainly on the lack of double and triple teams but it was some great stuff. I like how Atlantis vs. Villano has a hate feeling to it but a more classical feel. Satanico vs. TB is straight Jerry Springer hatred. The snippets of Atlantis mixing it up with Satanico made me hope they tangle it up one last time. TB gets his revenge on Satanico for the first time in a while and Emilio piles on with his signature dive from the apron. Tarzan Boy goes for a dive and wipes out clutching his knee. Atlantida and that is a win for the tecnicos. TB is hurt on the outside but still getting stomped on. ***

Just about the greatest rudo team you can imagine.. plus it pairs up the two best feuds in CMLL!

This furthers the two feuds very well, but is also awesome in it's own right. At one point Satanico is biting Tarzan Boy's fingers and the referee tries to stop it, and Satanico bites the ref's fingers!! Another spot I loved is Fuerza Guerrera going for a top rope splash, but his opponent was too far away and he just didn't make it.

Satanico is the most evil and vile human on the planet and he is so great, the TB-Satanico feud may have over shadowed V3-Atlantis here.

Poor TB went for a dive near the end, but Fuerza moved and he hit the floor and injured his leg. Doctors helped him out as Atlantis submitted V3.

I'll go *** 1/2, I really dug this.

I thought this was very good. Satanico was a machine, just destroying everything in his path, especially that punk Tarzan Boy. They are really building the heat on that feud, because Tarzan got almost no moments of revenge in this match, so all roads are leading to their hair match on 2/25. I loved when Satanico bit his fingers, and when the referee dared try to stop him, Satanico responded by biting the referee's fingers too. That feud is so hot that even something like Atlantis-Villano comes off a bit cold, even though it's not, and we did get some progression there with the clean finish. This was a fun 11 minutes. ***1/4

I don't want to say this was worked traditional but it was more traditional than the brawls in January. Santanico is still going nuts over Tarzan and Atlantis/Villano bring the hate. The tecnicos got more offense than usual too. Poor Tarzan looks like he injured his ankle/knee on a dive. Fuerza didn't even attempt to catch him. Good match.

An aspect of the Tarzan Boy-Satanico feud that is so great is how Satanico blows a fall against Tarzan Boy in nearly every match by brutalizing him or outright cheating. There is so much heat between them and Satanico makes it seem like he is trying to kill Tarzan Boy. You could learn everything about being a heel from watching Satanico in one match.

The match is another great setup and it was interesting seeing the two top feuds at the same time.

This was the first match from February that felt like it was on par with the January stuff and I don't think it's a coincidence that it takes place at Arena Coliseo. Coliseo seems tailor-made for the Satanico v. Tarzan Boy feud. You sense that it loses something in Arena Mexico kind of like playing a larger venue vs. a smaller, more intimate one. Here you've got fans holding Tarzan Boy signs whereas I'm not sure he's that over Arena Mexico. And Satanico looks king-sized this smaller setting. He looks like he's on a different plane from everyone else. No one can match the ferocity with which he attacks Tarzan Boy. Villano III looks like hes moving in slow motion by comparison and even Fuerza couldn't keep up with Satanico's intensity. The only thing that comes close is Panther licking Olimpico's blood and showing off his kill to the audience. Tarzan Boy is pretty low rent but I liked the fire on his comeback here and I thought the injury storyline off the missed plancha was a nice twist after he'd finally shown some fire. Satanico stomping the ankle was wonderful as was the finger biting. Atlantis vs. Villano can't really hold a candle to the Satanico/Tarzan Boy ringwork, though I did like their punch exchange. I'm sure the mask match is still a classic, but Villano comes across as slower and less vicious than Satanico and Atlantis comes across some squeaky clean do-gooder who can't understand why the Villanos are picking on him. Acting was never his forte, but you've got to be prepared to fight fire with fire in an apuesta match and I don't really get that feeling from him. Which makes me suspect that the mask vs. mask match may be closer to a pure lucha match than a brawl, but we'll see. It's been a long time since I watched it.

Look at all these names! Two big feuds bundled into one! Shoot, it’s only 11 minutes.

First fall is another rudo beatdown, as has been the norm this year, elevated by the caliber of the talent. Charles and Fuerza start us with some cool sequences in the segunda. Second fall is all action and very entertaining, highlighting the two main feuds. Atlantis grabs the Atlantida and we’re out of here. I really enjoyed this while it lasted.
