Trump

Considering that he's making waves by trashing the ratings of his old show, I wouldn't put it past him to make an appearance at WrestleMania (most likely via satellite).

I'm not following the current product at all, but I'm aware that they are making more steps to become an international company now. I wonder how much, if any, damage is likely to result from the Trump/McMahon relationship when it comes to certain countries they are making overtures towards but that he might ruffle some feathers with.

I don't want this to become a political flamewar anymore than the mods do, and if it turns into that I'll understand that this needs to be shut down, but I just feel like this is kind of the elephant in the room when it comes to talking about current WWE.

He hasn't exactly been the most popular guy, even places you'd think would be welcoming like Harley Davidson plants are canceling planned appearances due to fears of mass protests. Last thing WWE wants is any negativity on their big weekend.

The most political they'll get is anything involving Linda which can be handwaved by just saying they are happy for the family.

I was genuinely surprised that he didn't show up on last year's show and now I'd be even more shocked if he did show up at Mania (even satellite). I'm guessing, despite his ties to Trump, Vince is wise enough not to touch this issue with a 20 foot ladder.

On a separate note, I'm really eager to read a lengthy, well-researched article connecting Trump's controversial attitudes and image with his various appearances on WWE programming. For example, did the RAW writers forecast Trump's rabble-rousing and "populist" message during his feud with Vince? Wasn't there a segment where he basically dropped a couple grand from the ceiling of an arena and had fans grabbing at cash in a frenzy? I feel like there's a link there to his campaign promises that hasn't been fleshed out yet.

Apparently there's noise on Twitter about people canceling the Network due to the Trump affiliation, but I have a feeling that's like when #CancelWWENetwork trended after Roman won the Rumble and it ended up being their biggest signup day ever.

If that's all they'll ever do, that's fine with me. Still, this alliance could have deep repercussions when the shit really hits the fan. I really don't want to be Chicken Little for however long this lasts, but how this could hurt WWE actually worries me.

Too late. There is about the same chance of Andre the Giant appearing via satellite or in person at WrestleMania as Donald Trump.

I believe he couldn't unless Vince gave the opposition equal time as well.

I was almost going to post this in The Military Industrial Suplex thread for those very reasons.

A potential cameo appearance by him doesn't worry me, it's just speculation. I'm sure if he lost he'd be doing some kind of angle at some point again though.

I canceled it today, just for financial reasons. I just watch it for old stuff, and if they ever decide to completely lobotomize themselves and decide the world needs more seasons of Holy Foley! than classic wrestling, I'll still have it.

I was watching Holy Foley today. I didn't think it was bad at all and is would be perfectly fine on TV. Mick is a decent sitcom dad lead and the brutally honest kid of his is hysterical. Mick comes across as really relatable and a guy you could see yourself on the couch watching sports with.

I don't pay for the network though. It's not the price, but I hate monthly fees. I would rather give you $100 up front than $10 for 10 months. Of course I'll drop $100/month on video games without thinking twice lol

Vince doesn't have employees! He has indep- *strangles self with own necktie*

I do wonder if Sami Zayn being too outspoken politically led to the heat Dave said he has rather than him complaining someone "stole" his move in the UK tournament. The timing seemed like it was a clear "stfu about that stuff" situation.

Is there any data on the political leanings of WWE fans/subscribers? I suspect Vocal Internet Wrestling Fan is generally more left-leaning than Average Joe WWE Fan, but I could be wrong. But any data on that could inform how likely WWE would be affected by its links with Trump, and how bothered Vince would be about it.

However, it feels really hard to make a call on this. The Trump presidency doesn't really have a historical precedent for us to understand how this will pan out, and WWE has survived plenty of PR disasters.
