What Happened When with Tony Schiavone

Listened to the Souled Out '97 episode. I find Tony strangely compelling. There are a couple weird moments: like Conrad's shows with Flair and Pritchard and Cornette's with Last, these aging vets sometimes come off to me as cantankerous old men. Not even so much toward the business, but more toward everything but the business, where they say mutter about their wives and take some oddly prideful relish in their cursing and insults, in a way that feels very "Show us on the doll where Vince Russo touched you." (I sort of suspect it comes from trying to imitate things like comedians' podcasts and Stern and O&A, but that's a whole other aside.) Still, I found Tony's stories to be engaging, and even if the topic was kind of a non-starter selected by fans, he's obviously very smooth on the mic and knows how to stretch. It may just be nostalgia, but it's kinda just nice to hear his voice and have him doing something in wrestling again. I'll keep with it for at least a few more.

Haven't listened, but I'm glad Tony is embracing his wrestling past, rather than running from it. A few years ago he was blocking anyone who Tweeted him about wrestling, even when complimentary.

I honestly think it has to do with the Network. People can go back and watch him on shows like Saturday Night and realize he was pretty decent at one time and only fell into parody when WCW got to the point no one involved gave a shit anymore.

On the new episode, I thought Conrad's Hogan/Pastamania/mistress theory about why the first Nitro was in the Mall of America was completely ridiculous. Tony had no clue what he was trying to get at and said do numerous times but Conrad kept harping on the fact that Hogan wanted Nitro at the mall so he could plug Pastamania and please the mall publicist he was sleeping with at the time.

I know Hogan has implied it but has more ever gotten out about the Kate Kennedy stuff? She filed a sexual assault lawsuit and he countered alleging extortion.

Hey, I finally foundanother podcast I can listen to. I gave up on Corny a long time ago, as I did with Sully (his constant kissing up to that whoever-he-is host got annoying quick) and I don't listen to podcasts by smarks from a pro-wrestling forum (or I'd do my own and listen to my fucking self babbling about my opinions on shit) and I like Schiavone a lot and he's fresh in the realm of "shoot interview". I love the fact he "uses 'fuck' as a coma" and that he's got that deadpan trashy sense of humour at points.

He also made a point I never hear about Wargames and that I was glad to finally see addressed in some ways : the fact that Wargames ending with a submission is flat as fuck. As a matter of fact, Tony said straight up that he hated Wargames because of it. I wouldn't go that far but I absolutely agree with his point about the submission ending is always totally anti-climatic and unspectacular. it has always bothered me, in every Wargames match ever, including the great ones.

His story about not knowing how to call Goldberg as late as the intro of the guy during his first match was glorious. As much as the JCP episodes are cool, I want more WCW era WTF material.

Not looking forward to more 'read from the Observer and await response' episodes.

Sadly, the DDP episode was all about that, with the litany of Conrad reading results from shows and PPV. Very boring. Not nearly enough Schiavone actually telling stories about DDP. The Klondike Bill story at the beginning was the highlight.

Starting listening to this podcast and are we assuming the Tony fucked some of the Nitro Girls or that Tony is a creepy pervert who want people to think that he fucked some of the Nitro girls

He doesn't seem to remember a lot from judging the Nitro final show one but does offer some great stories.

This podcast is insane. In this weeks edition, Schiavone tells an hilarious story about Arn Anderson agenting Ron Reese as The Yetay. The he admits he has a tiny dick which is one reason he wouldn't do a threesome with Flair (who's got a huge one apparently) and a "party girl". Schiavone is a riot.

Agreed. Tony and Conrad get along very well, it seems. Any needling is affectionate, not antagonistic. Tony doesn't have the need to keep a lot of stuff secret or toe any lines - he's pretty open about his opinion on most people he worked with. And he's funny.

I've gotten used to Bruce/Conrad, and I keep listening because I enjoy the subject matter. But this one is better, to me.

I don't understand why this podcast is not as popular as the Prichard one.

WCW

Not listening to Prichard. Way too obnoxious and corporate minded in the interviews I've heard (with Corny for instance). And like Tony S. himself said, after two minutes, you know the guy is full of shit.
