UWF UNIFIED WORLD CHAMPION: DUSTY RHODES

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION: HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN

UWF WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: THE ROAD WARRIOIRS

UWF WORLD 6 MAN CHAMPIONS: TOMMY RICH, EDDIE GILBERT & HONKY TONK WAYNE FERRIS

UWF WORLD TV CHAMPION: ICEMAN PARSONS

Hello again everybody. Welcome to UWF & Mid-South Wrestling from Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Tulsa Convention Center here on WTBS. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd.

Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd both hype up last week’s event in Alexandria at the Rapides Parish Coliseum and pay special attention to the UWF World Tag Team Title bout between the Road Warriors and The Sheiks (Crusher Blackwell and Ken Patera)

We see a quick video tape of the end of that match where the ref had totally lost control and everybody was in the ring at the same time. Even Akbar and Ellering where going at it on the outside. The ref is forced to call for a Double DQ but this does little to stop the action. Eventually wrestlers and officials have to come down to stop the brawl but you could imagine how that went.

When the video ends, we see the Road Warriors and Ellering at the interview table where they are fuming mad. They want the Sheiks so bad that they are willing to put their titles on the line in Little Rock on June 1st; under one stipulation that is. When the Road Warriors win their bout, Paul Ellering gets the Sheik in the ring all by himself!

Akbar doesn’t hesitate and he comes right to the interview desk with the Sheiks (Blackwell, Patera & Reed) and accepts the challenge but it looks like this might not wait until Little Rock. Both teams are in each other’s faces as Jim Ross tries to calm things down and reminds the Road Warriors that they are at a numbers disadvantage. As you would expect that does nothing to calm this fire storm.

All of a sudden the American Dream comes out and gets right in the face of Hacksaw Reed. Ross informs us that the Dream and Reed also had some barnburner in Alexandria and that it ended in 30 minute draw but at the conclusion of that match, Reed hit Rhodes with a low blow and then Akbar and Reed really went to town!

Cowboy Bill Watts struts out and demands calm. He informs us that he has already granted the Sheiks a rematch in Little Rock and that if the Road Warriors win, Akbar will go one on one with Ellering.

Everyone seems cool with that until….

CRACK!

A huge bull rope is cracked and out comes The Long Riders (Bill & Scott Irwin) who remind everyone that there will be no title defense for the Road Warriors on June 1st because they will NO LONGER BE THE CHAMPIONS.

Bill Irwin: You two may think you are big and bad with your Mohawk hairdos, your studded dog collars and face paint but we know that is all a gimmick. When you got to do that much to make yourself look tough, you aint tough at all!

Scott Irwin: And after we take those belts from you, we got no problem beating a couple a pretend A-RABS just for the fun of it!

Cowboy Watts: Don’t worry! Whoever the champions will be, must fulfill all signed titles matches so whoever comes out of that Super Card, The Rocket City Rumble, in Huntsville will face the Sheiks in Little Rock the following week.

Hacksaw Reed: Wait a minute all you suckers! Let’s remember one thing! Around here, I am the Man and what the Man says; Goes! You all saw the American Sob, Dusty Rhodes lying face down on the matt in his own drool when I was finished with him last week. I demand a rematch so that belt can be around the waist of the Best There Is instead of the Fat Never Was!

Cowboy Bill Watts: Well, I have an answer for you Mr. Reed. Since Mr. Akbar and his merry band of thieves here are so big on playing the numbers came, we are going to even it out tonight! In order for Hacksaw Reed to get a rematch, he will have to win a Handicap Match against the American Dream and a tag team partner of his choice in today’s Main Event!

Reed, Akbar and the rest of the Sheiks have a complete fit but Watts warns then to watch their mouths as any response now could result in a suspension!

As everyone walks off set, Ladd wonders why Watts always seems to come down on the side of his favorites while Ross is so amped up about the Main Event that Watts just put together!

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

TED DIBIASE & DR. DEATH STEVE WILLIAMS

VS

RON SEXTON & RANDY BARBER

A complete squash match where the end comes when Dr. Death caught Sexton with the Oklahoma Stampede.

At the interview desk, the two mega stars of the Rat Pack call out the UWF North American Champion, Hacksaw Duggan and Terry Gordy. Dibiase says that he will regain that title if it’s the last thing he does while Dr. Death warns Bam Bam that he is not finished with him.

Jim Ross takes the opportunity to put the Rat Pack in their place by asking them to explain what happened last week in Alexandria when the Freebirds with Duggan beat the Rat Pack in an 8 Man Tag Match.

Ted Dibiase: (with a smirk on his face) Just one battle in a long, long war! When all is said and done, the Rat Pack will control the UWF. That’s right folks, take your pictures now of Duggan and the rest of the Freebirds as they soon will be out of wrestling!

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

CHRIS BENOIT

VS

BUDDY LANDELL

Benoit does well here but Landell is so good at playing the scared heel. He suckers Benoit in as he pleads for mercy only to catch the rookie with an eye rake. Now the Nature Boy of the Rat Pack takes Benoit to school and snaps in the Figure 4. Benoit has no choice but to surrender. JYD is forced to rush in to help aid his young friend when Landell refuses to break the hold.

JYD has his way with Landell and tosses him from pillar to post as the crowd went wild.

At the interview desk, JYD is fuming mad. As he is “howlin at the moon,” he lets us know he is sick all the nonsense that has been going around here. From the Kiwi Sheeeherders to the Rat Pack, he doesn’t care who he gets in the ring with but he guarantees that the Dog will take care of business.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MAIN EVENT

UWF WORLD CHAMPION DUSTY RHODES & A MYSTERY PARTNER

VS

HACKSAW BUTCH REED with SKANDAR AKBAR

Hacksaw Reed is in the ring first and he is all fired up. He wants to know who Dusty’s partner will be but Dusty adds to the suspense by coming out alone. Then he points to the curtain and out walks someone he goes back a long way with… The 6’9, 340 pound Blackjack Mulligan!

Ross hypes this up as Ladd is fuming and can’t believe what Watts has done.

As the match gets under way, Reed faces off against Rhodes in the beginning and it is all you could expect.

Jim Ross: Oh my, look who is joining us here at the interview desk. It is none other than Classy Freddy Blassie and his man, The Universal Heartthrob, Austin Idol.

Freddie Blassie: Shut up Ross and give me that mic. We came here to make sure the Fat Slob Dusty Rhodes doesn’t make up some excuse not to show up tomorrow night in Huntsville, Alabama at the Rocket City Rumble. We all know that he is afraid of Austin Idol. I mean just look at my man and then at Rhodes. My man is the perfect physical specimen. Look and the biceps. Look at the pectorals and then look at the roll upon roll of Rhodes’ disgusting gut.

While all of this is going on, we see Reed starting to have trouble with the 2-1 attack of Rhodes and Mulligan. Rhodes connects with a Bionic Elbow and then he tags in Mulligan who comes in with the Iron Claw!

Reed is struggling to survive when all of a sudden we hear Austin Idol say he has heard enough of this. He rushes over without Rhodes knowing he is coming and pulls him off the apron onto the floor. A quick bodyslam onto the concrete and Rhodes in in trouble. The ref calls for the bell but this is only the beginning….

The rest of the Sheiks (Blackwell & Patera) rush out and attack Mulligan. The Road Warriors rush out and go after the Sheiks. The Long Riders come out and go after the Road Warriors.

While all of this is going on, Austin Idol is just beating on Dusty. As Jim Ross begins to sign off, we catch a glimpse of Jerry Lawler who is just hanging out over by the curtain.

Jim Ross: Wow, we got some slobbernocker going on here. Look at the carnage. There are bodies all over the place. Austin Idol is stompin a mud hole and walkin it dry on Rhodes. And what is behind the appearance of one Jerry “The King” Lawler. He is a cerebral assassin and you know he has some wild plan here. What a couple of weeks it is going to be in the UWF. First, anybody near Huntsville, Alabama must get to the Rocket City Rumble. The Road Warriors are putting the World Titles on the line against the Long Riders and Dusty Rhodes is looking for revenge for this savage attack at the hands of Austin Idol. And next week in Little Rock, the Sheiks will be looking to take those World Tag Belts from whoever the champs may be. So long from Tulsa.

The show begins with a short video clip from Continental Championship Wrestling and the Rocket City Rumble in Huntsville, Alabama.

Sammartino stops Arcidi from interfering a couple of different times and points it out to referee Ron West who eventually bans Arcidi from ringside….which pops the crowd….at one point Dusty manages to reverse Idol's 'Las Vegas Leglock' and Idol looks to be moments from submitting as Blassie gets up on the apron and distracts Ron West…..as he does this Sammartino reaches in between the ropes….and buries his fingers in Dusty's eyes until he breaks the hold….Dusty is momentarily blinded but lunges towards Sammartino who blasts Dusty with a big right hand that staggers him backwards into a school boy roll up from Idol as Blassie gets down off the apron….West sees the pin….1-2-3!! UWF WORLD TV CHAMPION: ICEMAN KING PARSONS

Hello again everybody. Welcome to UWF & Mid-South Wrestling from Shreveport, Louisiana and the Irish McNeil’s Boys Club here on WTBS. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd. Well that’s right folks, we do have a new UWF UNINIFED WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION…. AUSTIN IDOL who will be joining us in just a little while but first let’s get to the ring for our first match.

MATCH:

JYD

VS

BUZZ TYLER

A pretty good match here where JYD got the fans into right away with his dog collar swinging rendition of “Another One Bites the Dust.” JYD tired of Tyler’s dirty tactics and finished up the match when he followed up a series of standing headbuts which a Big Thump.

JYD went over to the interview desk where he was congratulated for his victory. All of a sudden the interview was cut short when it was interrupted by Austin Idol and Classy Freddy Blassie.

Jim Ross: Wait a minute, Mr. Idol. You will have to wait your turn.

Austin Idol: It is always my time. I am the Unified Champion and this boy over here needs to step aside.

JYD: Who you calling boy you bleached blonde blowhard. This is my time and you don’t want to get in the way of the dog!

Blassie: Listen up you pencil nosed geek…. You are nothing compared to my man here. You are not in his class. You are not worthy of our time. Keep working hard, and maybe, just maybe, we will let you carry our bags.

JYD: Now wait a minute….

Blassie: You have wasted enough of our time and now you must pay.

WHAM!

Teddy Muscles and David Sammartino hit the area and put the boots to JYD. Idol doesn’t even seem to want to be bothered and just stands by the side as Blassie’s henchmen do the work.

The crowd roars as the Freebirds hit the scene and help rescue the Dog.

Jim Ross takes us to break and he hopes order can be restored when they return.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

THE ROAD WARRIORS with PAUL ELLERING

VS

LANNY POFFO & BRETT WAYNE

A complete squash match with the end coming when the Road Warriors hit the Doomsday Device on Poffo.

At the interview desk, Paul Ellering does most of the talking and it is directed at Skandar Akbar. He is white hot about the match between the Road Warriors and The Sheiks (Patera & Blackwell) last night in Little Rock.

Jim Ross informs the fans that the Road Warriors won a monster brawl. And as part of their victory, Ellering was to get 5 minutes alone in the ring against Akbar. Before Ellering could get in the ring, the Dingo Warrior hit the ring and connected with a Warrior Smash on Ellering. Hawk and Animal chased Dingo up the aisle but this left an injured Ellering at the mercy of Akbar!

Paul Ellering: Dingo Warrior….. you seem to have made your choice. WRONG CHOICE! You never cross the Road Warriors. Akbar and the rest of you tribe of bandits…. Be on notice…. You are now in a World of Doom! In fact, we are the Legion of Doom! In two weeks in St. Louis… we want you in a steel cage. Titles vs Career! Whoever wins, gets the belts. Whoever loses, must leave the sport of professional wrestling.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

CHRIS BENOIT

VS

MAN MOUNTAIN LINK

An awkward match where Benoit has trouble maneuvering the big man around the ring. In the end, Benoit claims the victory with a top rope diving headbut.

After the match, we see Ted Dibiase and Dr. Death roll out an old lady in a wheel chair. This lady is missing teeth and the viewer is left just wondering what trailer park she came from.

Dibiase and Williams who are dressed to the nines are portraying this lady as the mother of Hacksaw Duggan and how it is no wonder that he has no manners and dresses the way he does and goes around carrying a 2 x 4. After about 4 minutes of this angle, Hacksaw can take no more and rushes out swinging that trusty piece of wood. Dibiase and Williams scamper away but this leaves the poor old lady stranded. Hacksaw goes to her aid but it was all a play. As soon as Duggan put down the 2 x 4, the entire Rat Pack comes out and attacks Duggan.

Jim Ross is furious at how the Rat Pack used this poor lady. After about a minute or so, the Rat Pack leave the interview area with Duggan face down on the floor.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MAIN EVENT

HACKSAW BUTCH REED with SKANDAR AKBAR

VS

TIGER CONWAY JR.

A match between two pretty good athletes here but Reed’s power just is too much. The end comes with a Gorilla Press Slam.

At the interview desk, Reed is sick and tired about being passed over for title shots. Akbar seems to change the topic and quickly accepts the Title vs Career challenge that was offered by Paul Ellering and the Road Warriors.

Ernie Ladd is excited by this match up but Reed seems a little surprised that Akbar’s focus was not on him as he truly believes he is “the Man” here in Mid-South Wrestling.

Jim Ross: So long from Shreveport!

The show starts with a white hot Jim Duggan. Ross reminds the fans that Dibiase and Dr. Death Steve Williams used an old lady as a ploy last week claiming that she was Duggan’s mother. When Duggan came out they attacked him 2-1.

Jim Duggan: ok listen up Rat Pack! You may be right. I am not the most cultured guy in the UWF. I may not have all the fancy cars and wear all the fancy cloths and I might carry around a 2 x 4 but that is because I come from a blue collar family who had to work for everything they got. My mother and father taught me that an honest day’s work is what built this great country and I was taught to respect others. What you two did last week was disgusting. Making fun of that poor old lady was truly low class. I wasn’t upset that you made her out to be my mother. I what bothered me was that you insulted her for no reason! Believe you me, the next time I see either one of you this trusty 2 x 4 will find the side of your heads! I don’t care how it gets done but I demand a No Rules Street Fight against either Dibiase or Williams in St. Louis. Title on the line!

Jim Ross: Which one? Dibiase or Williams?

Before storming off Hacksaw Jim Duggan says “Let them decide.”

Jim Ross: Wow, Hacksaw Duggan is hotter than a rattle snake sunning himself on top of a cactus! Dibiase and Williams best be on the lookout.

Ernie Ladd: I think we found out last week that Duggan best be on the lookout for the Rat Pack. Let’s get to the ring and see the hottest wrestler in the business… The UWF Unified World Heavyweight Champion….. Austin Idol.

MATCH:

UWF CHAMPION AUSTIN IDOL with FREDDIE BLASSIE

VS

SPIKE HUBER

(Non-Title)

Poor Huber just gets toyed with until Idol slaps on the Figure 4 and forces Huber to submit. Unfortunately, with the blessing of Blassie, Idol refuses to break the hold. He uses the ropes for leverage and we just hear poor Huber scream

The crowd pops as JYD rushes out swinging his big 8 foot dog chain. Idol and Blassie scamper to the outside of the ring as Dog just keeps swinging that collar. Blassie calls for reinforcements and Teddy Muscles and David Sammartino heed the call.

Jim Ross lets us know that JYD might have that chain but he could be in some trouble as Blassie’s stable surrounds the ring and looks for a way in… while avoiding the chain.

Jim Ross: Oh my business is about to pick up!

From behind, the Texas Outlaws hit the scene and Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdoch are just beating the snot out of Teddy Muscles and Sammartino. Jim Ross is really hyping up the fact that the American Dream is extracting some revenge on Sammartino. Bionic elbow after bionic elbow leaves the off spring of Bruno laying on the ground in the fetal position. Teddy may have some muscles but he has never faced someone like Murdoch who is just throwing haymaker after haymaker! Blassie and Idol have sense enough to run for cover as the Dog is howlin at the moon.

As we head to break, we hear Jim Ross. “Bah Gawd, just look at the carnage.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS

(MICHAEL HAYES & BUDDY ROBERTS

VS

RON SEXTON & RANDY BARBER

A complete squash match where the end comes when Hayes hit a Running Bulldog on Sexton.

At the interview desk, Hayes and Roberts and joined by Bam Bam Gory.

Gordy takes the lead here and says how much he loves Hacksaw Duggan but he might just have to wait in line to get his hands on Steve Williams as Bam Bam wants the first crack.

Hayes takes over and reminds the Rat Pack that if they ever want to dance on Bad Street, they might end up having to call the mortician.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

THE KIWI SHEEPHERDERS VS ART CREWS & LANNY POFFO

Poor Crews and Poffo is all that needs to be said as the Sheepherders just pummel them while all the time doing a great job of getting some real nasty heat from the fans.

Match:

BUDDY LANDELL VS TIGER CONWAY JR.

Maybe the best bout of the night as these two really know what they are doing. Landell played the scared guy pretty well in the beginning. That all changed as Arrogant Nature Boy came out after an eye rake on Tiger. Tiger takes one more turn wrestling from the top until Eric Embry comes out and distracts the ref.

Landell connects with a low blow and then follows it up with the figure 4 for the victory.

Jim Ross is having trouble figuring out which of the Rat Pack is the most hated as the quartet of arrogance comes over to the interview desk. Williams does a lot of the talking here where he just brushes off the threats from the Freebirds and Duggan from earlier in the show.

Dibiase spends some time hyping up the “St. Louis Street Fight” for the North American Title against Duggan. Dibiase says that it will be his pleasure as the leader of the Rat Pack to take the title!

Dr. Death seems a bit taken back that Dibiase just assumes it will be Dibiase in the title match and not him.

Both Embry and Landell try to calm the situation by saying that the in house fighting is exactly what Duggan wants.

As the Rat Pack walk off, there is a lot of muttering that could be heard.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

THE SHEIKS WITH SKANDAR AKBAR

(PATERA & BLACKWELL)

VS

CHRIS BENOIT & GEORGE WELLS

While the match up on paper looks good, it turns out to be a total squash. The Sheiks are functioning like a well-oiled machine and the end comes after Blackwell followed up a drop kick with a Giant Splash on Wells. Just for the hell of it, Patera then tossed Benoit to the floor.

As the show comes to an end, Akbar can’t wait for St. Louis as he lets us know that not only will the Sheiks take the titles from the Road Warriors but they will take the career of one of them.

Patera and Blackwell then start a mock debate of which Road Warrior, Hawk or Animal will be out of the sport.

Jim Ross is just happy the show is over so this nonsense can come to an end.

Jim Ross: So long from Tulsa.

THE LOUISIANA SUPERDOME

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

7/3/1985: WTVT

LjMbgG9.png?1

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to UWF Wrestling and New Orleans, Louisiana. We are coming to you live on WTVT from the world famous Superdome. I am Jim Ross along with Ernie Ladd. What a night it is going to be. We have 5 huge titles matches and three matches that hold the fate of the USWA in their hands as the Tennessee – Texas War has come to a head. After the show tonight, we will see the end of one of two legendary men in all of wrestling as one will have to leave the USWA forever and give his share of the company to the other. That’s right folks. Tonight will be the last we see of either Fritz VonErich or Jerry Jarrett as owner of the USWA.

With 11 matches on the card, let’s get to the ring and get this historic show started.

USWA CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

JIMMY JAM GARVIN with PRESCIOUS

VS

BRAD ARMSTRONG

Brad gets a nice ovation here even though he doesn’t spend all that much time in Louisiana but most of that is due to the fact that Jimmy Garvin and Precious are experts at bringing the heat down on themselves.

Garvin plays the scarred heel for a while but Armstrong finally catches him and wrestles from the top for the first 4 minutes or so. The action spilled out onto the floor and with a trip by Precious we get our first momentum change. Garvin plays in rough and softens up Armstrong and he goes for his finisher, the Brainbuster. Armstrong blocked it and connected with a suplex. From here, Armstrong whips Garvin into the ropes and catches the champ into an Abdominal Stretch. As the ref bends down to ask if Garvin is going to give up ….

WHAM

A loaded purse by Precious and Armstrong is out. Now Garvin connects with a Brainbuster just to make it look legit.

All Jim Ross can say is “That Jezebel.” And Ernie Ladd responds with “like the Armstrongs play it all on the up and up. Jim Ross, Who is the Bullet? Let’ be real and call the Armstrongs the cheaters and leave me man Jimmy Garvin alone.

INTERGENDER MATCH

JIM CORNETTE

VS

BABY DOLL

This match begins with Jim Cornette using the house mic to tell everyone what he is going to do to Baby Doll but as soon as she hits the ring and goes after him, he is the one running away.

When she finally does catch him, she gives him a big right hand and when he jumps up off the matt, she catches him with a body slam. Cornette runs out of the ring and grabs the tennis racket. Baby Doll doesn’t seem to care and goes back at Cornette. He swings but she ducks under. As the ref admonishes Cornette, Baby Doll connects with a huge boot to family jewels.

Jim Ross: Oh bah Gawd. Does Cornette have two new lumps in his throat?

A three count here gives her the victory but she was not done. As Cornette slowly gets to his knees….

WHACK!

A tennis racket shot of her own for good measure.

Baby Doll leaves to huge applause as Cornette is face down in the center of the ring.

Ernie Ladd reminds us that this might not be the last we see of this tonight as just a little later, Baby Doll’s Fabulous Ones and Cornette’s Midnight Express will be in the ring for the # contender’s match to the UWF World Tag Team Title.

_________________________________________________________________________

UWF WORLD TV TITLE MATCH

ICEMAN KING PARSONS

VS

RIP RODGERS

Except for a few minutes with Rodgers on top, Iceman gets some good revenge for the Tar and Feathering he received from Rodgers just a few weeks back! The end came after the two traded a few haymakers in the ring before but Iceman knocked Rodgers down. He scooped him up for a big bodyslam and just as Rodgers made it to his feet again, Iceman hit the ropes and came off for a perfectly times Big Butt Bump!

The crowd, as they had done when Iceman came to the ring, danced in the aisles as Sister Sledge and “We Are Family roared form the speakers.

__________________________________________________________________________

UWF WOLRD TAG TEAM #1 CONTENDERS MATCH

THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS with JIM CORNETTE

VS

THE FABULOUS ONES with BABY DOLL

This one is ready to blow up from the second both teams come out. Baby Doll and the Fab Ones have the crowd going wild with their “Sharpe Dressed Man” entrance and they really explode as Cornette comes out with his head bandaged from the Tennis Racket shot from Baby Doll just a little while ago.

We get 15minutes of some of the best tag team action around in this one. The end comes as Steve Keirn is playing the face in peril and is taking a nasty beating. Finally he blocks a punch be Eaton and connects with one of his own. He then scampers to his corner and tags in Sweet Stan Lane.

Lane comes in like a house afire and knock both members of the Midnight Express to the ground. He drags them both up by the hair and

WHAM

Knocks their heads together. Keirn is up by now and we go a little bonzo gonzo with all 4 men in the ring.

Eaton is able to catch Lane with a back body drop over the top rope as he rushed in a bit too quickly. Eaton and Condrey now double team Keirn for a minute or two as the ref is on the verge of losing control. He seems to have forgotten Lane is the legal man in the ring and is not making a 10 count.

Eaton eventually goes for the Alabama Jam but is shoved off awkwardly by Lane who finally made his way back to the apron. Eaton is down and the ref checks on him when ….

WHAM

A tennis racket shot for the second time tonight. This one by Cornette on Lane. Lane tumbles inside the ring as Baby Doll chases Cornette all the way back to the locker room.

Condrey connects with one last shot on Keirn and then scampers over to make the cover on Lane.

1…

2…

3.

Ernie Ladd is hyping up the fact that the Midnight Express are the new #1 contenders for the UWF Tag Titles while Jim Ross is screaming that the ref has lost complete control and that Condrey was not even the legal man in the ring so how could he make a pin attempt.

It seems like Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express have outsmarted the UWF once again and Ernie Ladd is loving every minute of it.

__________________________________________________________________________

STEEL CAGE MATCH

JIMMY SNUKA

VS

DINGO WARRIOR with SKANDAR AKBAR

After short break, we get about 12 minutes of Snuka brawling with the Dingo Warrior. The Warrior and his powerful build has perfected a view power moves in his rookie year but Snuka really carries the match. After using his head as a weapon with a series of headbutts, Snuka tosses Warrior headfirst into the cage. Warrior staggers back and falls right in the center of the ring.

Time for the Super Fly Splash but this time Snuka climbs all the way to the top of the cage and launches himself from 15 feet in the air across the ring and right onto the mid-section of Dingo.

The crowd is in awe at what they have just seen and Snuka is high fiving the fans as he leaves to go back to the locker room

_________________________________________________________________________

UWF WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

THE ROAD WARRIORS with PAUL ELLERING

VS

SKANDAR AKBAR’S MYSTERY TEAM

The Road Warriors are first to the ring an eager to get this bout started. Akbar comes out next and grabs the house mic and tells everybody in the audience to hide the women and children as this will be the most violent match anyone has ever seen

All of a sudden, face painted and all, out comes Konga the Barbarian and Haku!

Jim Ross: Bah Gawd… The Faces of Fear are in the Louisiana Superdome and they are every bit as big and strong as the Road Warriors.

Animal and Hawk leave the ring and rush up the aisle and meet the Faces of Fear even before they get to the ring. Total chaos ensues and we have fighting all over the arena. Nothing is save. The steel barricade, the announce table and chairs with fans in them are all used as weapons.

Finally the ref calls for the bell are rules this mess a No Contest but that does little to stop the mayhem. Wrestlers and refs alike come out of the locker room to try and restore order but as long as the TV cameras were rolling, the fighting was going on.

It took a TV break to get order restored.

__________________________________________________________________________

UWF NORTH AMERICAN TITLE MATCH

HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN

VS

TED DIBIASE

(NO DQ: LOUISIANA STREET FIGHT)

No rules here just means come as you are and beat the crap out of each other for 20 minutes. After many momentum changes, the end is utterly wild. Dibiase is in control and connects with a knee to Duggan’s gut. He whips Duggan into the corner and Duggan hits the turnbuckle hard and he staggers to the middle. We see one of the few moments of actual wrestling now as Dibiase takes Duggan down with a drop step toe hold that he quickly turns into his finisher, The Figure 4. Duggan is in serious pain but somehow reverses it and now it is Dibiase in trouble.

Dibiase now gets help from the Rat Pack as Buddy Landell and Eric Embry hit the ring in this no DQ bout. They give it to Duggan for a minute or two before the crowd pops as Michael Hayes and Buddy Robert hit the ring. Dibiase is about to clock Duggan, who is being held by Embry, with the loaded black glove. Michael Hayes jumps in with headlock on Dibiase. Hayes follows up that with a big running Bulldog!

Dibiase takes some time to get to his feet but Duggan is just setting him up for a huge football tackle. As Duggan rushes in, we see Dibiase side step the tackle and Duggan hits the ring post hard and goes down. Dibiase hops up onto the 2nd rope and jumps off backwards connecting with a massive elbow drop.

Hayes in desperation grabs the 2 x 4 as Dibiase goes for the pin.

1…

Hayes loads up on the 2 x4 and is about to swing at the head of Dibiase.

2…

CRACK

Eric Embry connects with a Super Kick to the head of Michael Hayes.

3.

Jim Ross: Just look at the carnage! Ted Dibiase and the Rat Pack have left Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the Freebirds spewed all over the ring and Ted Dibiase is the NEW UWF NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION!

BATTLE FOR THE USWA

TENNESSEE VS TEXAS MATCH #1

UWF WORLD 6 MAN TITLE MATCH

THE TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER ARMY

(Tommy Rich, Eddie Gilbert & Honky Tonk Man)

VS

KENDALL WINDHAM, BARRY WINDHAM & BLACKJACK MULLIGAN

The UWF 6 Man Champions are getting good at playing the heel and it is no different here as they use every dirty tactic in the book. The only difference is that at least have the crowd is behind them. This Tennessee-Texas War has divided fans down the middle and heel or face doesn’t make much difference here.

In the end, we see Blackjack and Barry brawling with Honky Tonk and Gilbert on the outside while Rich is in the ring with Kendell. Kendell misses a back flip after he whipped Rich into the ropes and Rich comes back with a Thesz Press. Wildfire rolls out of the ring as the ref turns his attention to the action outside of the ring for just a second. Rich comes back to the ring with a towel and puts it over the face of Kendell. Windham struggles for a few seconds and then seems to pass out from whatever is on the towel.

With Kendell out on his feet, Rich picks him up and puts him in a sleeper to make it look legit! The ref turns back and sees the sleeper and picks and drops Kendell’s arm 3 times for the knock out win for the 6 Man Champs.

Rich kicks the towel out of the ring and Gilbert quickly disposes of the evidence.

Ernie Ladd: War is War and we now see Jerry Jarrett up 1-0 in this Battle for the USWA. One thing is for certain, Tennessee agrees with me…. In War….”By Any Means Necessary.”

Jim Ross: Of course you would say that, the only fight you ever liked was a fixed one.

Ernie Ladd: Watch it Ross, watch it!

BATTLE FOR THE USWA

TENNESSEE VS TEXAS MATCH #2

THE TENNESSEE STUD STABLE & RICKY MORTON

VS

MIKE, KEVIN & KERRY VON ERICH

The VonErichs are waiting in the center of the ring as the Tennessee team is taking some time to come out. Finally, they come out but it appears that Jimmy Golden is really dazed.

Ross notes that he just doesn’t look right, and the match basically becomes a handicap match. Golden plays no part in the match except for the end. Fuller and Morton do their best but just both seem to be trading places as to he is getting the beating. With Morton and Golden outside the ring, Fuller is taking it pretty good from the VonErichs. Mike rushes the opponent’s corner and drop kicks Morton to the floor.

He then whips Fuller in the corner and right into Golden where the ref signals a legal tag has been made. Mike monkey flips Golden in to the ring and tags in Kerry who connects with one big Tornado Punch. Golden is out on his feet as Kerry tags in Kevin who climbs to the top rope for a Von Erich barefooted Super Splash!

Fuller tries to make the save but to no avail as Kerry simple catches him in a Brain Claw.

This war is all even now at one apiece.

At the end of the match, Robert Fuller grabs the house microphone!

Robert Fuller:

EDDIE GILBERT! TOMMY RICH! YOU HAVE GONE TO FAR. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT TENNESSEE BUT YOU CAN’T STOP YOUR SHENNANIGANS EVEN FOR ONE NIGHT. ONE OF YOU TWO PUT AN EITHER SOAKED TOWEL AROUND JIMMY’S FACE AND MAY HAVE CAUSED SOME SERIOUS BRAIN INJURIES. FOR WHAT? TO TRY AND PROVE THAT YOU ARE THE REAL STUDS? LISTEN CLOSELY BOYS, WE ARE COMING TO TAKE YOU OUT. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF IT’S FOR FRITZ, JERRY JARRETT, WATTS OR CONTINNTAL CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING….. YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED!

Jim Ross: Ernie, what were you saying about war? It seems Rich and Gilbert are just out for themselves.

Ernie Ladd: I knew I liked them two.

UWF UNIFIED WORLD TITLE MATCH:

“THE UNIVERSAL HEARTTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL with FREDDIE BLASSIE

VS

JUNKYARD DOG

A 4 part match here. Dog with the quick start after his Dog Chain Swinging Entrance to “Another One Bites the Dust” followed by Idol on top following an eye rake.

Dog then plays the top again and seems on the verge of victory after a Big Thump but nothing is ever as it seems with Blassie around.

A perfectly timed Pearl Harbor attack by Teddy Muscles and David Sammartino give JYD the win but by DQ so Idol retains the title.

JYD takes it pretty good here until he finally gets some help from some old faces who I can’t reveal just now as I am posting this show a little early and the trades are not complete!

BATTLE FOR THE USWA

TENNESSEE VS TEXAS MATCH #3

TERRY GORDY, JERRY LAWLER & RIC FLAIR

VS

STAN HANSEN, DICK MURDOCH & DUSTY RHODES

This is plain and simply the match of the year in the UWF. Not only is the company on the line but we could take any two names here and it would be a Main Event. It is also the hardest match I have had to write so far. With so much on the line and the names involved in the match, I really can’t see anyone of them doing the job here. My only solution…. A total screw job where none of the wrestlers know the real outcome coming into the match.

This math goes nearly 30 minutes and has everything you would expect. Momentum changes, power moves, some technical wrestling and a lot of outside the ring action. We get a powerslam by Gordy on Rhodes. We have a huge lariat by Hansen on Flair. We get a second rope fist drop with the wrestling singlet dropped down under his arm by Lawler on Murdoch. We get the Bionic Elbow by Rhodes on Flair. We even get the “Now We Go to School” quote by Flair as he locked in the Figure 4 on Rhodes. With so much on the line the fans were on the edge of their seats.

At one point, we have Hansen in the ring against Flair. Hansen whips Flair into the ropes as he goes for another Lariat on the NWA champ. Flair ducks under but ref, Pee Wee Anderson is in an awful position and takes the full force of the blow. A running lariat by Hansen on the diminutive Anderson nearly takes his head off and Pee Wee is down and out.

Action continues for a while with no ref. Hansen and Flair continue their war on the outside where Hansen brings a chair into play. Flair is bloodied and Hansen continues to go to work. Bam Bam and Murdoch are also outside the ring trading some of the biggest haymakers seen in this sport.

That leaves Rhodes and Lawler, the top two challengers to Idol’s UWF tittle battling it out in the ring with no referee. Lawler connects with another second rope fist drop and goes for a pin but still no referee. Lawler then goes for a piledriver but Rhodes blocks it. Rhodes turns the piledriver into a back body drop and connects with a series of Bionic Elbows. Rhodes then goes for a piledriver of his own and connects. Lawler is out! Rhodes goes for the pin but still no Pee Wee Anderson.

WHAM!!!!

Somehow Flair on the outside had gotten control of the chair and laid Hansen out. Flair then entered the ring and cracked Rhodes right in the head with the chair. Rhodes is no busted open and is out. Flair drags Lawler on top but still no ref.

Jim Ross: Bah Gawd look who it is. It is suspended referee Bronco Lubich coming to the ring.

Ernie Ladd: I don’t think he is suspended anymore. He is in his black and white shirt and is in the ring.

1…

2…

3.

Jim Ross: I can’t believe what I have just seen here tonight. I am not even sure if this was legal but the team from Tennessee is celebrating in the ring. Dusty Rhodes looks truly shocked! Fritz VonErich is no longer in charge of the USWA. Welcome to the Jerry Jarrett Era or at least that is what we believe. We will need Cowboy Watts o give us some answer.

Watts comes down to ringside and informs Ross and everyone else that Bronco Lubich, the senior official for the entire UWF, was suspended 90 days for actions unbecoming of a referee. That suspension came to an end yesterday and he was reinstated. Our rules are very clear. If one referee is down and another is available to take his place, they must do so. Bronco saw Pee Wee get injured by the Lariat and quickly got dressed. His three count was not only legal, it is exactly what he should have done!

Jim Ross: What a night it has been for Tennessee and Jerry Jarrett and what a nightmare it has been for the American Dream. So long from New Orleans.

Well... this was an interesting show. Let me first start by saying you've got a card FULL of huge stars... so much so that in my mind it almost hurts the card. There is no undercard when the NWA world champion is swallowed away into a six-man tag. Even the USWA championship match, which opens the card, is lost is all that is and was this card. You have put together an incredible roster for this show, but I kind of feel that the amount of star power hurts it in the long run. I just can't get over Ric Flair being hidden away in the six-man... outside of the NWA of all things... without a title match. It is almost like he was picked for the match just on his name but his ability doesn't play into the match. I would even go as far as to say the same for Barry Windham who isn't quite used to his potential in an all intensive purposes squash match with Kendall getting his ass beat. I just don't know how I feel about this promotion coming out of this show with the amount of talent you have and the kind of direction you plan on going.

I have to move froward with the idea that perhaps less is more with some of the things you have going forward when it comes to the use of some of these absolute huge main event names that did not have any rhyme or reason behind their use on this show outside of just their name.

In terms of writing, the show is written well. The finishes make sense. The way that the battle plays out makes sense.

*EDIT*

I also want to commend you for your use of Haku and Barb and instantly making them on the same level with the Road Warriors... well maybe not the same but definitely contenders.

If anything, if I had to be a bit nitpicky, I'd say that maybe the order of the matches was a bit uneven. Like LowBlow, I think the USWA title match should've been way higher on the card or at least, you could've switched it with the the Iceman/Rogers match. I understand with the significance of the main event why you brought in Ric Flair but when you have the NWA World Champion on your card, arguably the biggest star in the Project, it might've warranted a title defense against anyone in your roster and then, switch him with perhaps another freelancer to team with Bam Bam Gordy & Jerry Lawler.

As for the storytelling and the results themselves, I don't really have any issues with them. It served their purposes. But don't beat yourself in the head over this. It was a good card.

Thanks for the feed back and I understand your comments.

I put the Garvin title defense to get the TV audience into this early. As we often see in the WWF today, they put the hook in quickly and that was why I put it there. As for Ric Flair he might be one of the biggest stars in the game but he is not one of the biggest in the UWF. I have often seen him in 6 main matches as the main event in his own NWA. The key story line here was Fritz-Jarrett as we have often see in wrestling history whether it by Vince, Shane, Stephanie or Eric B.

Also, since the WWF and the NWA are on fire, this card needed showcase the superstars of the UWF and not the lower card members of the promotion in order to keep up. Historically, I do not think their is much of an undercard in Wrestlemania or the Bash. They bring in stars just to use their names all the time like Mohammed Ali, Liberace or Joe Frazier. This was the purpose of Flair. Not to put over the NWA and help their cause but to showcase that the UWF can keep up with anyone else.

Oh, man... I have a totally different take on how Flair was used on this card.

Obviously, the big story here is the end of the months-long battle between Fritz Von Erich and Jerry Jarrett for control of the territory. Everything else, including titles and special guests, comes in second to that particular story line.

I feel like a series of six-man tag matches is the *perfect* way to bring that huge story to a close, particularly given the historical importance of six-man tag matches for the Von Erich family.

So, with huge names like Lawler, Hansen, and Flair on this particular card with this particular story reaching its climax after months of build-up... the *only* way to use those huge name stars is to put them in the third and deciding six-man tag match. With the story being told here, that particular six-man is arguably the biggest match in the history of this promotion. It has to be a larger-than-life epic match that blows the crowd away...and it really should come down to Dusty vs Lawler at the end, given the story leading up to here.

I think it was excellent booking. Texas loses, Fritz is gone... but at least the Von Erichs win their six-man tag, so there is still some reason for Texas pride. Tennessee triumphs... but not cleanly, and not without a big assist from a big name outsider... so the Fritz vs Jarrett portion of the story is over, but the Tennessee vs Texas feud can continue if that's what kevinmcfl wants to do. You even have the timing of Bronco Lubich's suspension coming to an end... tlak about planing ahead!

You get a satisfying climax and a clear end to this chapter of the story, but there is still lots of hatred and resentment to build on moving forward. I don't see how it could have been booked much better, and I honestly don't think a Flair title defense would have made this card any stronger. If anything, it might have taken some focus off of the main story being told on this card.

I don't think my point is going towards a Flair title defense... but I just don't know why, outside of name value, the NWA World Champion would be put in that position for the UWF. He has a lot on his plate here for a promotion and alliance that for all intensive purposes, he doesn't belong to. If anything, this was a chance to build someone up and put them in that spot. That could have been a big stepping stone for someone to take that and become a mega star for the company/alliance.

I'll happily concede that point. I could see Ricky Morton or Tommy Rich playing a similar role and getting some shine off of that... though I can't quite see either of them brawling outside with Stan Hansen and then clocking Dusty with a chair.

As for *why* Flair got the slot... I can't speak for Kevin, but I think it was the simple happy coincidence that he was born in Memphis :) That gave us the nice comedy spot on USWA TV where Fritz was all frustrated and fuming about Flair being from Carolina.

That could be the rhyme and reason behind it all. Just want to throw the feedback out to help in the future. Kevin did a good job writing the show. It is very creative. I just think the roster management and match placement could have been worked out and that opportunity to have someone make themselves in the main event was perhaps missed. I think the move to Memphis will be a good one for sure and look forward to what happens.
