Guy Hauray: Hello, wrestling fans, and welcome to this week’s episode of NWA Lutte Internationale TV. It’s a big weekend for all of us here as fans in the United States will have the opportunity to see us live in action tonight in Orlando, Florida and Brattleboro, Vermont tomorrow night. But for right now, it’s a monumental episode awaiting us because for the first time in years, Andre the Giant will be in action in the territory, in our main event! Édouard Carpentier: You can feel all of the excitement in the studio, among the fans, and even in all of our crew since Andre is such a significant name, not only here in the territory but throughout the wrestling business. It will truly be a memorable match. And I know that Dory Funk Jr will be ready for this match. Guy Hauray: He sure will, Eddie, but that’s not the only anticipated match for this week because after a few weeks of mind games & questionable tactics, we’ll see the appearance of the Super Strong Machines. Or at least, one of them. We don’t know which one yet but a Strong Machine will square off with Bob Sweetan, following the backstage sneak attack he was a victim of last week. Édouard Carpentier: And if we’re holding Sherri to her words last week, it could be a very long first night for the Strong Machines in Lutte. Looking forward to see what will happen! Guy Hauray: And later on in the show, speaking of the Sensationals, we’ll speak to Bob Backlund, following what happened last week in the main event. But for now, we’re ready for our first match so let’s get to it! Match #1 Armand Rougeau vs Sika The broadcast team mentions that this marks the first TV match for Armand Rougeau since he left the promotion last year to nurse some injuries. Rougeau seems to be in great shape and it shows early against the veteran Samoan. But ring rust seems to be getting to Armand as well because Sika eventually regains the momentum to never lose it again. Sika ends the match with a Samoan Drop to secure a singles victory this week. Winner: Sika *********COMMERCIAL BREAK********** Match #2 Super Strong Machine #1 (w/Strong Machines #2 & #3) vs Bob Sweetan (w/Sherri Martel) We see quite the elaborate entrance from the Japanese invaders as the 3 of them make their way to the ring to face Bob Sweetan. It’s not until the bell rings that Sweetan will discover that Super Strong Machine #1 will be his opponent for the match. Despite being usually a tag team specialist, Machine #1 displays a very rough style that proves to be too dominant for the brutal Sweetan. While Sweetan is able to show a bit of offense in the match, the constant outside interferences & quick switches from the Machines prove to be too much. In the end, Machine #1 scores the victory with his Machine DDT. Winner: Super Strong Machine #1 *******COMMERCIAL BREAK******* (Back from the commercial break, Guy Hauray is standing in front of the broadcast booth with Bob Backlund, ready to do an interview) Guy Hauray: Welcome back to the show and before our mega main event, we’re pleased to welcome Bob Backlund to the set. Bob, we all saw what happened last week as you subbed in for Bob Sweetan to team with Terry Taylor against the Bolshevik Revolution but a couple of miscues proved to be your downfall. What’s your frame of mind coming out of this? Bob Backlund: You know, sir, it’s hard for me to hide my frustration and my anger following what happened last week. I was intending on doing the honourable thing; the right thing by replacing Bob Sweetan in that tag team match. Even if in my mind, something was telling me that things wouldn’t end up well, I still did it because it was the right thing to do. And that’s how I’m getting repaid? By being left hung to dry by my partner? This isn’t something that I take lightly, Mr. Hauray. Not at all. Guy Hauray: I’m assuming that you now want a piece of Terry Taylor next week on this program? Bob Backlund: To be honest, Mr. Hauray, it isn’t important to me who I’ll face next week. Because, you see, the true responsible for last week was Sherri Martel. Ever since Nick Bockwinkel turned her down to join the Sensationals, she has gone into a downward spiral and is willing to blame everyone and anyone for everything and anything. She is the one pulling the string. She’s the problem in this whole situation. She ordered Terry Taylor to walk away from me, not the other way around. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see next week that Terry Taylor won’t be here to face me so I will not bother to be picky. I’ll take whoever Sherri Martel wants me to face next week on this program. And once it’s all said and done, any of the Sensationals will regret having spit in my face when I was trying to do the honourable thing. And while I’m a man of integrity, I can fight with the best of them. Just try me! (Bob Backlund walks away and returns to the locker room. Édouard Carpentier is back at the broadcast booth) Guy Hauray: Well, looks like we have a match for next week as Bob Backlund will wrestle a member of the Sensationals to be determined. Édouard Carpentier: You can definitely feel the frustration in his voice, Guy. Bob Backlund was being a good guy and he has nothing to show for it now. We can only hope that things will be settled next week. Guy Hauray: Hopefully they will but after the break, our much anticipated main event is coming up! ************COMMERCIAL BREAK*************** MAIN EVENT SPECIAL ATTRACTION Dory Funk Jr vs Andre the Giant The giant from the French Alps receives a rousing ovation as he makes his way to the ring to face the elder Funk. Dory Funk Jr shows no intimidation by striking first but Andre countered quickly with a headbutt, sending Funk down. As the match progresses, we see NWA International Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk making his way to the broadcast booth, and watching the match unfold. The broadcast team mention that both Andre the Giant (Freelancer) and Terry Funk (Mid-Atlantic) will be taking part in the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup in 3 weeks. The champion doesn’t budge and just stares at the ring with all the action going on. With all of his might, Dory Funk Jr tries to take down Andre on multiple occasions but to no avail. Instead, Andre picks Dory with a double underhook suplex, slamming him to the ground. Andre sits on Dory to secure the pinfall victory. As the show draws to an end, Terry Funk gets closer to the ring and takes verbal jabs at Andre while Andre invites him to get in the ring! But the Funker stays on the floor doing nothing. However, one of the last images of the show is Super Strong Machine #1 is lurking in the background! Will Terry Funk & Andre the Giant meet in the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup? And is Super Strong Machine #1 targeting the NWA International Heavyweight Championship? Winner: Andre the Giant À LA SEMAINE PROCHAINE SI DIEU LE VEUT! The Super Machines are a rarity here in that they are playing a Japanese Baby face while most others play the heel. This makes Lutte not only different but very interesting. The build up for the Cup is also cool. Terry Funk vs Andre maybe. It is cool how everyone wanted Andre until Andre got in the ring. I enjoyed the respectful Bob Backlund putting the blame on Sherri. I will admit that it will take a little getting used to seeing Sika as a dominant singles wrestler but with Afa basically done at this point in history, you are doing a great job of getting as much out of the Samoans as you can. SirEdger Posted April 6, 2017 Author Report Share Posted April 6, 2017 Yeah, will probably have to phase out Afa slowly until the end of the year so trying to establish Sika in singles early, while I still can do this with him. On the other side, it's in part why I signed the Strong Machines at the same time I loaned Super Strong Machine from gordi. Even though it's only a 3-month loan, it still gives me time to establish the other Machines in the tag team division, to eventually take the Samoans spot in the division. Continued excellence here with story and build. I appreciate the relevance of a Backlund and Bockwinkel in this promotion as a satellite for the NWA. That is some MAJOR star power that could turn the tide for any promotion. The Missing Link and Terry Taylor is quite the eclectic tag team which would make for an interesting hot tag and of course.... the Nature Boy is on top and there is so much waiting in the wings for him... anything could happen. LowBlowPodcast Posted April 7, 2017 Report Share Posted April 7, 2017 I don't know about a gauntlet match for the world title... perhaps gimmicky for the nwa but for Lutte anything is possible. My only criticism of the angle is that the title itself is a gimmicks but one of such prestige... would it hurt the image to be in a match like this or if it switched due to some technicality from the match as a whole? I could see it fir secondary titles but the nwa world title is on a different level imo. I could've gone with a straight-up 5-way but I thought the Gauntlet is better suited for this timeframe (even though I did some 3-way & 4-way matches from time to time). As we’re coming closer to the start of the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup Tournament, everyone is playing mind games with each other to get the psychological advantage. And in some cases, this will be sorely needed to advance. Édouard Carpentier: Think about this, Guy; in the first round, we get Stan Hansen vs Bruiser Brody and most importantly, Rick Martel vs Andre the Giant. It’s practically impossible, in my view, for Rick to repeat last year’s performance and reach the finals of the tournament. Especially since Andre will be highly motivated to win this. Guy Hauray: Of course, and everyone is ready for this tournament and we had the opportunity to showcase our roster to our United States fans last week. And we’ll show you 2 exclusive matches from this tour; 2 from our final event in Brattleboro, VT. First, later in the show, we’ll see Jacques Rougeau wrestle Mad Dog Lefebvre and to close our episode, we’ll show you highlights of the Gauntlet Match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship featuring Ric Flair, NWA International Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk & Japanese star Super Strong Machine. Édouard Carpentier: This will be a great treat for you, fans at home. This was a spectacular match to close our 3-day tour! Guy Hauray: And speaking of spectacular, we’ll kick off right away with a grudge match set last week with Bob Sweetan meeting Bob Backlund! Match #1 Bob Sweetan (w/Sherri Martel) vs Bob Backlund The broadcast team recap during the early moments of the match the events of the past 2 weeks between the Sensationals and Bob Backlund. An aggressive Backlund takes advantage early and let his pent up frustrations out on the Sensational. Backlund puts on a wrestling clinic in there but Sweetan absorbs everything Backlund can dish out, showing his incredible toughness. Eventually, a miscalculation on a simple kneedrop turns the tide and Sweetan gets the advantage, with the unsolicited but not unwanted help from Sherri Martel. Bob Backlund regains the momentum after Sweetan misses an elbow drop on his own and Backlund with the irresistible comeback. Backlund is able to hit a Sunset Flip on Sweetan but Sweetan maintains his balance – with the help of Sherri Martel – and drops on Backlund, securing the victory when Martel grabs Sweetan’s hands to maintain his leverage! An uncharacteristically angry Backlund doesn’t waste any time to grab Bob Sweetan’s leg and pulls him in the middle of the ring! Backlund is now mounted on Sweetan and pummels him with right hands. Sherri is hysterical, pleading for Backlund to stop and finally, referee Luigi Macera is able to pull off Backlund from Sweetan. Sherri also helps Sweetan out of the ring, and she celebrates with her Sensational, pulling out a questionable but huge win this week. We promised you a few matches from our Brattleboro, VT show from last Sunday and it’s time to show you the first of our 2 matches. In this one, NWA World Tag Team Champion Jacques Rougeau took on former International TV Champion Mad Dog Lefebvre in singles action. Knowing the history between both men, it was sure to be a barnburner. Let’s get to the highlights! ****EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE**** FROM BRATTLEBORO, VT SHOW NWA World Tag Team Champion Jacques Rougeau vs Mad Dog Lefebvre (w/Frenchy Martin) This match features voice-over commentary from Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier. Of course, as expected, Mad Dog Lefebvre wasted no time and jumped right away on Jacques Rougeau. Mad Dog worked on Jacques’ lower back, trying to weaken his base and avoid his opponent’s high risk maneuvers. Mad Dog went for a piledriver but things went awry as Rougeau found a way to muster some strength in his lower back and back body dropped Mad Dog. Afterwards, even an interference attempt from Frenchy Martin didn’t help Mad Dog as Jacques neutralized Frenchy on the apron and proceeded to secure a victory following a nice crossbody block. Winner: NWA World Tag Team Champion Jacques Rougeau (5:48) ********COMMERCIAL BREAK******** Match #2 NWA World Tag Team Champion Raymond Rougeau vs Luke Williams The broadcast team mentions the high intensity between both individuals – and teams – in their recent encounters against one another. They make the claim that the Sheepherders might be the greatest threat to the Rougeaus’ reign as NWA World Tag Team Champions. Nevertheless, both Raymond & Williams didn’t hold back as they’ve beaten the living tar out of each other in this match. Williams pushed the limits of the regular match as much as he could in this one and Raymond answered by doing the same, making this a very intense & captivating match for the audience watching in the studios. Raymond thought he had the match won with his Savate Kick on Williams but the Sheepherder kicked out at 2! An incredulous Raymond continued his offense but one quick mistake and Williams hit the Gutbuster on Raymond! Williams also covered Raymond and the roles were now reversed as Raymond kicked out at 2! After a few moments of exchanging momentum, it will take an undetected low blow from Luke Williams followed by a 2nd gutbuster and this time will do the trick for Luke Williams. The broadcast team questions now if it won’t take a stipulation between the Rougeaus and The Sheepherders to have a decisive and definite winner! Winner: Luke Williams ******COMMERCIAL BREAK******** Guy Hauray: Before we conclude this week’s episode, we’d like to show you highlights of the match closing our US tour last week in Brattleboro, VT for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. A 5-men Gauntlet Match for the most prestigious championship in professional wrestling. Édouard Carpentier: And indeed, it was a classic, featuring arguably the two greatest champions in the industry right now in Ric Flair and Terry Funk, as well as Japanese star Super Strong Machine. Who knew if he wouldn’t try some switching shenanigans with his fellow Strong Machines. Guy Hauray: So, before we say goodbye, let’s watch the highlights of this incredible match! ***EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE *** FROM BRATTLEBORO, VT NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP GAUNTLET MATCH Ric Flair © vs NWA International Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk vs Super Strong Machine vs Rip Oliver vs Sika Obviously, because of the length of the match, it has been clipped and only the key moments of the match are shown, starting with the first moments of the match between Sika and Rip Oliver. The broadcast team doing the voiceovers and they mention that managers were banned from ringside in this one. We jump at the 10-minute mark when Rip Oliver was able to pin Sika following a piledriver. We then see NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair make his way to the ring as the next entrant. Fast forward to the 30-minute mark when Rip Oliver attempts a kneebreaker on Flair but Flair blocks it and somehow trips Oliver. Flair locked in the Figure Four Leglock and Rip Oliver immediately taps out, eliminating him. NWA International Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk is the next man to enter the Gauntlet. People get excited to see the confrontation between the two. Both men will spend the longest amount of time together in the match. The broadcast team puts over the amazing cardio of the Nature Boy as the next clip sends us to the 65-minute mark as Flair has finally locked in the Figure Four on Terry Funk. Funk drags himself near a corner and is able to grab his branding iron. Funk immediately nails Flair with the branding iron, causing his disqualification! Funk doesn’t hesitate and continue his assault on the champion! As the referee pulls away Funk from the Nature Boy, we can see that Flair has been busted open! This opens the door for the final entrant in the Gauntlet, Super Strong Machine #1 to pick up the scraps and pull off the huge win! But as much as the Machine wears down the Nature Boy, the champion shows why he’s just that; the champion. The Nature Boy pulls another rabbit out of his hat as after ducking the Machine Lariat from Super Strong Machine #1, Flair grabs the Japanese in a school boy and gets the victory at the 88th minute! This week’s show ends with Ric Flair celebrating, while shaking hands with the Rising Sun superstar. Winner and still champion: Ric Flair (88:16) À LA SEMAINE PROCHAINE SI DIEU LE VEUT! Interesting use of the gimmick match for the World Title, and being shown on TV, but it's a hell of idea and no one seemed to lose anything coming out of it. In Lutte, is the usual 60-minute time limit for the World Title not used? I've noticed a couple of other Flair matches being for the title, going past the 60-Minutes. SirEdger Posted April 14, 2017 Author Report Share Posted April 14, 2017 Little tweak of the rules on my part, as I extend to 90 minutes (although the 88-minute will probably be the closest I'll ever be to that time limit). I'm pretty sure that back in the day, when they did Martel vs Flair in Quebec City for the AWA & NWA unification title match, it was a 60-minute time limit but I'd have to check the history books about that.
