CCW TV Episode #6

Recorded on April 4th, 1985 at the WTVY Studios in Dothan, AL. in front of a live studio audience

Airing on stations throughout the territory on April 13th, 1985

Hosted by Gordon Solie & Joe Pedicino

Ring Announcer: Rhubarb Jones

(Show opens with footage from last week of the Andersons spike piledriving the already injured "Bullet" Bob Armstrong on the studio floor and the ambulance taking him away…..We then go to the usual intro video and then to the studio with our hosts Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino)

CCWSetSoliePedicino.jpg

Gordon: "Hello everyone and welcome once again to Continental Championship Wrestling, I'm Gordon Solie along with Joe Pedicino and we just witnessed once again the heinous attack on Bob Armstrong that took place here on television last week."

Joe: "We did Gordon and that was just a sickening display from Ole and Jesse Anderson. "Bullet" Bob Armstrong is still under a Doctor's care and it's unclear when or even IF he'll be able to return to the ring."

Gordon: "If you would like to send your 'get well' wishes to Bob Armstrong, you can do so by sending your get well cards to the studio at "Get Well Bullet" C/O WTVY 285 N Foster St Dothan Al 36303"

Joe: "I know he'd love to hear from his fans. Something else that happened last week involving the Andersons also involved their new found friend 'Dirty' Dick Slater and as a result of that, our main event this week will be a UWF World Television title match with Billy Jack Haynes defending against Dick Slater."

Gordon: "Also, we'll be seeing the CCW Tag Team Champions Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden in action this week taking on the Rock & Roll RPMs and a lot of other great action but right now let's go to our first bout."

===================================================

MATCH #1-

Alabama Champion The Honky Tonk Man w/Sir Oliver Humperdink defeated Shane Douglas after the 'Shake, Rattle, and Roll' neckbreaker

As HTM and Humperdink was leaving the ring, Wendell Cooley came out with a guitar and took a wild swing….they managed to get out of the way and run as Cooley shattered the guitar across the ring post. Cooley went over to the desk and joined Gordon Solie.

Cooley: "Mr. Solie….these guys wanna come out here and blindside somebody with a guitar?? Well two can play that game boys! I may not have connected with you today…but Monday night in Birmingham, we're going to have a 'Guitar on a Pole' match and I promise you, I'LL BE THE ONE playing the tune on YOU this time!!" (storms off)

====================================================

Solie: "Strong words from the 'Wildcat' Wendell Cooley…There's been some controversy this week over one of the championships and we were sent this tape by the UWF office which contains a couple of important announcements from UWF Rep. 'Cowboy' Bill Watts, let's watch it right now."

(VTR- Bill Watts is standing in front of a UWF banner)

BillWatts.jpg

Watts: "It's been brought to the attention of the Universal Wrestling Federation by several different wrestlers that the current U.S. Jr. Champion Mil Mascaras actually exceeds the weight limit of the Jr. Heavyweight division. UWF referees weighed Mr. Mascaras at a recent event and found that this is in fact the case that Mr. Mascaras does in fact exceed the weight limit for the championship that he holds. There for effective immediately Mil Mascaras is stripped of the U.S. Jr Championship and there will be a tournament held to crown a new champion this Friday night April 19th in Panama City, Florida. In the interest of fairness to Mr. Mascaras, he will be given a shot at the Southeastern Heavyweight Title held by Hercules Hernandez on Saturday night April 20th in Montgomery, Alabama. Also, while I'm speaking of championships, two first round matches for the UWF World Heavyweight Championship will take place on April 22nd in Birmingham, Alabama. The participants will be announced next week here on television. Last but not least, Austin Idol has opted to pay a hefty fine rather than serve out his 30 day suspension so he will return to action next week on television. Thank you to all the great Continental fans and I look forward to traveling to your area to meet you soon!"

Solie: "Wow, a lot to take in from Mr. Bill Watts and while we process all that, let's take a look at this week's card for Monday night at the Boutwell Auditorium."

MATCH #2-

Porkchop Cash pinned Carl Fergie with a crossbody block

==================================================

(Footage is shown of the wild brawl from last Monday night with Mr. Olympia and Kamala that ended in a 'no contest', we then go to a VTR of Charlie Platt interviewing CCW Champion Mr. Olympia)

OlympiaRed.jpg

Platt: "Mr. Olympia, you shocked a lot of people when you took that Continental Championship from Austin Idol but there's been no time to enjoy it as he's put a bounty on your head that the 'Ugandan Giant' Kamala is trying to collect."

Olympia: "That's right Charlie, and not just Kamala I have to watch my back at ALL TIMES because I never know who is waiting around the corner to try and take me out to collect that cash."

Platt: "I can only imagine, but this Monday night in Birmingham you have a rematch with Kamala but this time not only is that bounty money at stake, but your title is on the line as well."

Olympia: "The belt is on the line against one of the biggest, meanest men in wrestling today….and not only that I just found out that Austin Idol paid a $10,000 fine to not have to serve out his suspension….which makes you wonder does he want to shell out another $10,000 if someone takes me out….that might be something Tojo wants to find out before this match takes place….either way Mr. Olympia is coming with guns blazing and I'm going to walk out still the Continental Heavyweight Champion."

======================================================

(Back in the studio- Sir Oliver Humperdink along with the Super Destroyers and Hercules Hernandez join Gordon Solie)

Solie: "Mr. Humperdink, this week the Super Destroyers get a rematch with the team who defeated them last week Blackjack Mulligan and Scott Casey."

Hump: "Well sure they defeated them…we had no idea who we were facing….they were 'mystery opponents' so they were prepared for us but we weren't able to prepare for them…..this week however will be a different story….we're ready, we know their strengths and we know their weaknesses and we will exploit them and take them down!"

Solie: "Fair enough…also the Southeastern Champion Hercules Hernandez has a rematch with Dutch Mantell for the title and this will be a 'bullwhip match' which I feel would have to favor the 'Dirty Dutchman'."

Hump: "What the hell is a 'bullwhip match'?? I don't know…Herc doesn't know but I promise you this….it doesn't matter because this man is undefeatable and he will hold that Southeastern title for YEARS to come!"

========================================================

COMMERCIAL

========================================================

MATCH #3-

CCW Tag Team Champions Robert Fuller/Jimmy Golden defeated The Rock & Roll RPMs (Mike Davis/Tommy Lane) when Fuller make Davis submit to the 'Fuller Leglock'

(Fulller/Golden join Pedicino at the desk)

Joe: "Guys, this week is going to be a big one….not only are the belts on the line but if you lose you also have to leave CCW!"

Fuller: "You listen here and you listen good Pedicino….My cousin Jimmy Golden and I aren't going anywhere you understand! This is our chance to finally put an end to this Platinum Club…once and for all and that's exactly what we're going to do!"

Golden: "It's the end of the line boys….if you think for one minute you two chumps have what it takes to run us out of OUR backyard that bleach must be going to your brains because it's never going to happen….we're going to whip your tails and send you packing!"

========================================================

(VTR- Footage is shown of the UWF World Tag Team champions The Perfect Alliance (Arn Anderson/Bobby Eaton) with a voiceover that says the champions will be in Birmingham on April 22nd to defend the titles against the winners of this week's CCW Tag Team Title match)

Mean Gene if you will.... I really like the mix with the UWF here and It think it helps legitimize your product even more. You have got some nice name talent which helps. I like the build of Idol as well... he has a big upside in 1985 and this kind of exposure could make him a huge name for some of us (like myself) who may not have the recognition for him he deserves.

I really liked the ending here to the Brad Armstrong/Ole Anderson match! I think your tag team division is shaping up nicely and has a good mix of veterans and up and comers. The Midnight Rockers could be something special in a Southern Wrastlin type promotion kind of in the way of the RNR Express.
