(Show opens with the closing moments of the 'Loser leaves Town' match where Ole Anderson defeated Bob Armstrong forcing him to leave the Continental area, We then go to the opening montage and then to the desk with Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino)

Gordon: "Hello and welcome to another exciting hour of Continental Championship Wrestling as myself and Joe Pedicino are still in absolute shock with what occurred last Monday night in Birmingham when Ole Anderson conspired with Dick Slater to cheat Bob Armstrong out of that match, and force him to leave the territory."

Joe: "An absolutely disgusting display from those two, Gordon." (Brad Armstrong storms the set, Solie comes around the desk to meet him)

Brad: "I certainly agree that was a disgusting display indeed…Ole and Jesse Anderson, I know you are here, if you have an ounce of guts come out here and face me right now!"

(The Andersons come out to the desk)

Ole: "Ahhh…what's a matter Bradley, scared to be here without Daddy to protect ya?"

Brad: "No I'm not….however…..Any chance you wanna double down and have a chance to run one…maybe two more Armstrongs out of Continental?"

Ole: "I'm listening, what are you suggesting?"

Brad: "I want a shot at revenge….but I want to run BOTH of you Andersons out of here at once….I'm suggesting a TAG TEAM match….myself and a mystery partner, against you and Jesse Anderson and the team that loses…BOTH MEMBERS of the team are GONE!"

Ole: "Who is this partner going to be??"

Brad: "Is that what your scared of? Why does it matter? You guys claim to be the best, you already schemed a way to get rid of my Dad…You can't do it again? It might be one of my brothers, heck..it might be somebody brand new no one here has seen…but you boys can handle it can't you?"

(Ole and Jesse are conferring off mic, Dick Slater comes out and whispers something to them…Ole smiles)

Ole: "Let's make this interesting, let's have a singles match on Monday night…Dick Slater against your brother Scott, winner gets to referee this match."

Brad: "Hey, all we need is somebody to make it official and it's on!"

(UWF Rep Buddy Wayne comes out)

Buddy: "Brad, this sounds a little crazy but if you want to sign it, we'll go in the back and make it official."

Brad: "Lead the way and we'll make it happen, Mr. Wayne."

Gordon: "Well, there you have it Joe…now we have a tag team 'Loser leaves Town' match this week and now Brad Armstrong and his partner could be gone or BOTH Andersons will be out of here."

Joe: "What a way to start the show, Let me also mention that Jerry 'The King' Lawler will be here in the studio to challenge Austin Idol for the Continental Heavyweight Championship but right now let's go to the ring for our opening match."

Billy Jack Haynes defeated Ted Allen with the full nelson

(Joe Pedicino comes over to ringside to speak to Billy Jack)

Joe: "Billy Jack, this Monday night you have a big match with the "Exotic" Adrian Street to determine the #1 Contender for the Southeastern Heavyweight Title….Street is an 'interesting' opponent to say the least."

BJH: "Joe, I've got my eyes on that Southeastern title my friend Brad Armstrong holds, as far as Adrian Street and his mind games…I'm not too concerned with any of that…." (Adrian and Linda come out)

Adrian: "Mind games? Listen sunshine, Why would I waste my time playing mind games with a big dumb brute from Oregon? You wouldn't know if I did cause you don't have a mind….you've just got a bunch of big muscles but I do kind of like those…" (Adrian rubs BJH's arm and Haynes grabs him by the neck and lifts him into the air, until Linda low blows him from behind, Adrian takes a moment to recover then starts to put the boots to Haynes) "Oh Billy boy, we're going to have a lot of fun Monday in Birmingham but when I'm done having my fun with you, I'll beat you and I'll go on to be the Southeastern champion!"

(As we return from the break Freddie Blassie, Austin Idol, and Teddy "Muscles" Arcidi come out to the desk)

Blassie: "Gordon Solie, what the heck is going on around here?? We get here today and find out that Idol has a CCW title defense against Jerry 'the King' Lawler, AND this Monday night he has a defense against Bruiser Brody?? Is the company conspiring against the greatest wrestler in the UWF to make sure he isn't in prime condition for his shot against paper champion Dusty Rhodes??"

Gordon: "No sir, it's just…" (Idol grabs the mic from Solie)

Idol: "That is EXACTLY what it is Solie! There are so many people upset that I won the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup and they know damn good and well when I get that fat slob Dusty Rhodes in the ring I will be the World Champion and NO ONE will be able to beat me for it…..Bill Watts knows he can't control me….I'm not a puppet like Dusty Rhodes or Jerry Lawler…..I won't do what I'm told, I won't go shake hands and kiss babies like the "American Dweem" will. You want me to wrestle Jerry Lawler today…FINE! I've beat him before and I'll do it again today….but I WILL NOT wrestle Bruiser Brody this Monday night less than a week before my shot at the UWF World title….that man is a menace and and a lunatic and I promise you that match will not take place!"

(Jerry Lawler comes out to the desk)

Lawler: "You know what Idol, you are absolutely right….that match won't take place cause after I beat you for the Continental title here today, it will be ME defending against Bruiser Brody this Monday night and let me tell you something Austin Idol….I wish you all the luck in the world against Dusty Rhodes in Huntsville because just like I'm going to beat you today for this Continental title, I'll come back and beat you for the World title! See ya in the ring, champ!"

(Lawler turns to leave but is jumped from behind by Idol and Arcidi, Arcidi holds Lawler's leg out and Idol takes Blassie's cane and hits him across the kneecap twice before several wrestlers run out to make the save…..Lawler has to be helped back to the dressing room by the Southern Boys)

(Bill Dundee comes out laughing)

Solie: "I don't see what's so funny Mr. Dundee?"

Dundee: "Anytime somebody beats up Jerry Lawler, I think it's hilarious but I'm not here for Jerry Lawler, I want that punk kid Shane Douglas out here that pulled that stunt last week."

Solie: "You are referring to him pinning you after a belly to belly suplex, a stunt?"

Dundee: "It was a fluke…I underestimated him…but he couldn't beat me again on his best day and my worst…all he has to do is come out here right now and I'll prove it!"

Solie: "So since he beat you before you'll put the U.S. Jr. title on the line?"

Dundee: "Who mentioned the title? Who has he beat around here to get a title shot?"

Solie: "Well last week he beat the champion."

Dundee: "Ok smart mouth…..sure, I'll put the belt up…if that's what it takes to get him out here…sure, it's a title match…right here, right now!"

(Douglas comes out and throws his t-shirt in Dundee's face and slides in the ring…Dundee throws the shirt down in a rage and slides into the ring as the referee calls for the bell)

Shane Douglas pinned "Superstar" Bill Dundee once again with a 'belly to belly suplex' in 3:15 to win the U.S. Jr Championship….afterwards Douglas quickly slid out, grabbed the belt, and exited the studio as Dundee was having a meltdown in the ring as the fans went wild!

Jones: "A couple of weeks ago you guys had earned a tag team shot against Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden, on your way to the ring you were attacked by the Long Riders and did not get your title shot, now the Irwins are the tag team champions and Buddy Wayne has signed the match and you will finally get the title shot you earned weeks ago."

Smothers: "That's right man, those Irwin Brothers attacked us and cost us the biggest match of our lives up to that point and we've been asking when we would get our rightful title shot, well now we get the best of both because not only are we getting a shot at the belts, but we get a shot at revenge as well….Long Riders, get ready because when you get in the ring with the Wild Eyed Southern Boys, it's dang sure going to be a long hard ride and you won't come out on top of this one we promise you that!"

Gordon: "I wanna welcome right now a man you'll be seeing in the ring very soon, we're very excited to have him here in Continental Championship Wrestling, of course the son of the legendary Bruno Sammartino and fresh off competing at the huge Wrestlemania event at Madison Square Garden in New York City."

David: "Thank you Gordon, I'm excited to be here and I'm looking forward to building on the Sammartino name in a completely different part of the country than where my father competed…I'm not here to ride off the family name, I'm here to build my own legacy and I'll be watching today's main event very closely as one day I hope to compete for that Continental Heavyweight Title. After heinous attack that took place out here earlier, I'm very concerned for 'the King's' health but he says he's going to compete so I'll be keeping an eye on that one for sure."

Grappler #1- "It doesn't matter we got the last laugh and now they've gone to the promoters and demanded another match with us…..which kind of put the ball in our court Charlie Platt…..So we told them, sure we'll fight the Nightmares again….but it's going to be a 'First Blood' match. (laughs) Do you know how easy it will be Charlie Platt to open their head up again after we just did it last week? Not to mention, it's kind of hard to bust us open through a mask. It just goes to show you how stupid these guys are, Nightmares….once again on Monday night we will leave you laying in a pool of your own blood…and the next match we want, is for the tag team titles….Nightmares…it ends this week!"

Platt: "Now let's go to Joe Pedicino who is with the Nightmares."

Davis: "First of all Joe Pedicino…I can promise you one thing…NOTHING will be easy for those two this Monday night I can promise you that! Secondly, where does it say…first man bleeding from the head?? We can make them bleed anywhere on their body and win this match!"

Wayne: "That's exactly right Danny, however make no mistake about it….I have every intention of pulling the masks off their stupid faces and busting their head open just like they did us last week…..and Woman, you stick your nose in our business you can get some too!"

Brad came down to ringside and grabbed the mic, "Hey guys, meet my tag team partner….the mysterious, masked…. BULLET!"

(Crowd goes wild as The Andersons and Slater are beside themselves protesting)

U.S. Jr. Title

Shane Douglas defeated "Superstar" Bill Dundee by DQ when referee Ron West caught Dundee using a chain on Douglas…..Afterwards, Dundee shoved West….Buddy Wayne came out and fined Dundee $500 for abusing the official

Tag Team First Blood Match

The Grapplers w/Woman defeated The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne) when referee Bob Densmore was accidently knocked down, Davis busted open Grappler #2 through his mask, while Wayne and Grappler #1 fought on the floor, meanwhile Woman slipped in and hit Davis in the face with a mirror from her purse busting Davis open, she then pulled ANOTHER MASK out of her purse and slipped it over Grappler #2's head as Densmore recovered and saw Davis' head bloodied but no blood on the mask of either Grappler.

Alabama Heavyweight Title- Rematch

"Dirty White Boy" Tony Anthony pinned "Wildcat" Wendell Cooley to win the Alabama Heavyweight Title when Woman came to ringside and distracted Cooley allowing DWB to clothesline Cooley in the back of the head and get the pinfall. Afterwards, DWB and Woman leave together with Woman carrying the title over her shoulder.

#1 Contender's Match for the Southeastern Title

"Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms. Linda pinned Billy Jack Haynes with a inside cradle…..the end came when BJH had Street locked in the full nelson, Ms. Linda jumped up on the apron which caused the referee to go get her down off the ring, which allowed Street to kick Haynes low, then roll him up in an inside cradle

The bell rings, Idol grabs the mic and tells Brody that he knows he's a business man just like him and he understands that the World title is a huge deal and he can't put his health at risk tonight defending the CCW title against Brody, when he's a week away from facing Dusty Rhodes for the UWF World Title, so what he's proposing is if Brody shakes his hand and walks away tonight, Brody will get the very first shot at the World title when he beats Rhodes next Sunday in Huntsville….Brody nods along as Idol is saying all this….and once he's done talking…Brody extends his hand for the agreed upon handshake….Idol smiles widely, and says Brody is smarter than people give him credit for…..Brody shakes his hand…and as Idol goes to pull away…he can't, Brody fires him into the ropes and gives him the BIG BOOT and goes for a quick cover……1-2-3!! We have a new Continental Heavyweight Champion, Bruiser Brody!! Idol rolls out and Blassie demands Arcidi go in and "handle this" Ted Arcidi comes into the ring, Brody throws down the belt and charges him, they exchange blows for a moment until from out of nowhere, Hercules Hernandez hits the ring and attacks Brody, Idol slides back in and Herc, Arcidi, and Idol triple team Brody and bust him open…..until Brody crawls over and grabs the title belt and starts cleaning house with it…causing all three to leave the ring as Brody bloodied and battered holds up his newly won CCW title.

The Bullet/Brad Armstrong defeated Ole/Jesse Anderson when the Bullet put Ole Anderson out with a sleeper hold, Dick Slater tried to run in to interfere but Scott put him out of the ring with a 'superkick' as Ole's arm dropped for the third time! Ole and Jesse Anderson are GONE from Continental Championship Wrestling!!

I enjoyed the Brad Armstrong interview and set up to the Loser Leave Town Match. I must admit that I had thought to myself that we would see the Bullet.

 

I find Adrian Street a lot like Kevin Sullivan in that he is hard to write for but you did it perfectly. With him, I think less is more and that one interview you did with him was perfect!

 

Lawler vs Idol is one of the biggest feuds of the time and will always get the crowd excited. I like how you packaged Idol with Lawler, Brody and Dusty. He is white hot right now.

 

Speaking of Brody, I never thought he would outsmart someone! Then we saw him go 1-3 and come out on top- typical Brody.

 

You have a great mix of big names and small names all in the right positions from Idol to the Nightmares to Brody to Shane Douglas--

 

I am so glad you are on my side!

 

One question- Do you plan your big weekly show before you write your TV. It seems like you work backwards and produce a great product.

I write the big Monday card then write my TV (and house shows) around that. I got so used to that booking Memphis over on Wrestling Classics and then booking Memphis here before that I finally had to set CCW up in the same format for me to finally find my groove with Continental.

 

Got a lot of fun stuff lined up this summer and I'm having a blast working together as the UWF.

Gene, Gene, the dancing machine! We go way back in these leagues brother and it's great to see you not only still active, but thriving! Big Austin Idol mark so enjoyed him here. Teddy Muscles, I love it! It's funny that fantasy writers can find creative ways to get guys over better than they were in real life. Arcidi is much better used here than anything Vince or Fritz had for him.

 

Tough loss for Dickie Slater, curious to see how that continues to play out.

Lets' see what you got Mista Heartthrob! Paul: "Make no mistake Mr. Watts, the Long Riders are indeed a team…not to be taken lightly….These guys are destroyers…some might even say SUPER destroyers….but when they meet my Legion of Doom, it is they who will be destroyed!"

Hawk: "Wellllll….it seems the Irwins are a couple of big bikers who like to throw their weight around…well guess what Irwins? We like to throw your weight around too…and that's exactly what we plan to do when we get to Alabama tomorrow night! Right, Animal!"

Animal: "That's exactly right Hawk….a couple of big bikers may scare the tag teams in Continental but we beat up guys like that every truck stop we pass through leaving Chicago…..You will do the same thing every tag team that faces the Warriors do….LOSE!!"

Platt: "You are extremely confident."

Adrian: "Well Chuck….you saw what I did to Willy Jack, now imagine…..what I could do to you…."

Woman: "Joe, last Monday night as promised, My Grapplers defeated the Nightmares in a first blood match and tomorrow night in Huntsville they are going to beat them again along with those two wanna be rock & roll teams."

Joe: "First off, it was through very questionable means that you defeated the Nightmares and those so called 'wanna be' teams are two of the top tag teams in the UWF today."

Grappler: "Listen fat man….we've beaten the Nightmares until it's starting to bore us….as for the Midnight Rockers….we've beaten them before…..Rock & Roll Express? We've beaten them two so tomorrow night this should be a cake walk for the Grapplers and then we will go on to claim what's rightfully ours…the Continental Tag Team Titles….you know why Pedicino?"

Joe: "No, enlighten me…."

Grappler: "Because when you are the greatest tag team in professional wrestling……they don't just call you a great team……they call you, The Grapplers…..Nightmares, Rock & Roll Express, Midnight Rockers……Beat us…..if you can!"

Joe: "Bill, we don't have you scheduled out here today."

Bill: "I don't care about schedules…you care tell me what in the hell is going on around here?"

Bill: "I mean the fact that Shane Douglas is defending MY U.S. Jr title against Scott Armstrong tomorrow in Huntsville and I'm not even on the card!?!?"

Joe: "I don't book the cards sir, I can't help you with that!"

Bill: "Then get somebody out here who can because this isn't happening, I deserve a rematch!"

(UWF Rep. Buddy Wayne comes out)

Buddy: "Bill, you received your rematch last Monday night in Birmingham and you got yourself disqualified, Scott Armstrong is a former champion and he's next in line to get a shot."

Bill: "That's crap and you know it, I'll tell you what….get Scott Armstrong out here right now, let's have a match and the winner faces Douglas tomorrow at the Rumble."

Buddy: "Bill, it's already signed….if you want a rematch then earn it."

Bill: "How in the hell am I supposed to earn a shot when I'm not even on the stinking card?? You are protecting Douglas and you always favor the Armstrongs, that's why Scott is getting the shot…..I'm surprised your boy Kenny Wayne isn't the one wrestling Dusty Rhodes tomorrow now since you are so biased around here!"

(Scott Armstrong comes out)

Scott: "Listen Dundee, I'll take you on right now, I don't need a favor from anybody…the only reason you ever won the title from is because you're a cheater….but if you wanna go….you and me right now, winner gets the shot tomorrow."

Bill: "Done…let's do it!" (climbs into the ring)

Buddy: "Scott, if that's what you want….go for it."

Blassie: "Bruiser Brody, I guess you are real proud of yourself for what you pulled last Monday night…well you know what…I want to thank you for that because right now the Continental title was just a distraction for Austin Idol….right now he's focusing on something bigger, the UWF World Heavyweight title. Make no mistake Brody, we'll circle back to you and you will pay for what you did. Right now, all of our focus and energy is on Dusty Rhodes and that World Heavyweight title….once Idol beats Dusty Rhodes and becomes the World Heavyweight Champion, the UWF can take it's spot as the greatest wrestling organization in the world because all the other champions pale in comparison to the Universal Heartthrob. Hulk Hogan on his best day, couldn't compete with Austin Idol. Ric Flair's figure four is a JOKE compared to the 'Las Vegas Leglock' and Paul Orndorff will NEVER be as Wonderful, as that man…Austin Idol. The Road Warriors (Hawk/Animal) w/Paul Ellering defeated The Long Riders (Bill/Scott Irwin) w/Sir Oliver Humperdink when Hawk pinned Bill Irwin after the 'Doomsday Device', just after the ref made the three count Humperdink kicked Hawk to try and break up the pin but he was too late……Hawk sprang to his feet and Hump began to back peddle…bumping right into Animal……Animal lifted the rotund Humperdink up on his shoulders and Hawk went to the top rope and gave the Doomsday Device to Humperdink!! The crowd went ballistic as Ellering covers Hump and Animal makes another three count……The Irwin Brothers look at Humperdink in the ring and shake their heads as they grab their CCW tag belts and leave him laid out in the ring

(Prior to the Main Event)

After both men were in the ring for the main event as the announcements were about to be made…..David Sammartino came to ringside and took the microphone.

David: "Dream, I've seen what these men can do when they conspire together to take advantage of someone….they've done it to Mr. Olympia….they've done it to Jerry 'the King' Lawler and I'm sure they've got a plan tonight to screw you….I would be honored to be in your corner tonight to make sure they don't do anything to cost you that UWF World Championship."

Dusty: "David Sammartino….I don't know you too well but I know yo' Daddy and he's an honorable man…..and clearly you are as well….I would consider it a personal favor for you to be my corner man and keep these guys out of the fray, if ya weel!"

David: (reaches out and shakes Dusty's hand) "My pleasure sir."

A hard fought championship match that goes 38 minutes…Sammartino stops Arcidi from interfering a couple of different times and points it out to referee Ron West who eventually bans Arcidi from ringside….which pops the crowd….at one point Dusty manages to reverse Idol's 'Las Vegas Leglock' and Idol looks to be moments from submitting as Blassie gets up on the apron and distracts Ron West…..as he does this Sammartino reaches in between the ropes….and buries his fingers in Dusty's eyes until he breaks the hold….Dusty is momentarily blinded but lunges towards Sammartino who blasts Dusty with a big right hand that staggers him backwards into a school boy roll up from Idol as Blassie gets down off the apron….West sees the pin….1-2-3!! AUSTIN IDOL IS THE NEW UWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!!!!

Blassie embraces David Sammartino at ringside as Idol grabs the belt and they take off down the aisle as Dusty struggles to get up off the mat….he grabs a mic.

Dusty: "David Sammartino….YOU ARE A DEAD MAN BABY!! YOU HEAR ME…A DEAD MAN!!!"

Wish I was in Huntsville for this one. I thought the card was great as it had a lot of twists and turns. Finally someone has found a use for David Sammartino. Dusty might actually kill him!

 

Something like this propels Sammartino to heights he never reached before.

The show opened with Rhubarb Jones welcoming the crowd to the Boutwell Auditorium and running the results of last night's 'Rocket City Rumble' in Huntsville. After he announced that Austin Idol is the new UWF World Champion, Freddie Blassie, David Sammartino, and Teddy Muscles entered the ring.

Blassie: "As if there was ever any doubt, your favorite wrestler the "Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol is YOUR World Heavyweight Champion. After such a hard fought victory he's taking tonight off to celebrate in Las Vegas. But before you all stampede the front door to leave this joint, you still have the opportunity to see one of the greatest professional wrestlers of this or any other generation....my new associate, 'The Living Legacy' David Sammartino."

Sammartino: "Mr. Blassie it is an honor to be associated with someone of your stature, You are like father figure to me and I'm proud to be here in Continental with you and the greatest World Champion of all time...Austin Idol. Also, if Dusty Rhodes has a problem with me....I'm not a hard man to find and I'll beat him within an inch of his life if he's EVER dumb enough to step through these ropes against me!"
