The key to these matches is 1. how absurd is it and 2. if I laugh. This pass both of those tests in droves. The can attracting the metal spot in the middle of this was legit funny as shit and had me marking out just as much as the crowd. The trash can shots were brutal and we even get the "ring" disrupted into the finish. I didn't get the first Tobita match we watched but I was all in on this one as a great break from the serious nature of wrestling. ***

This was different, thought I'd HATE it but actually it was okay, even slightly entertaining, if a little absurd. The trash can shots were brutal. Enjoyed the crowd who reacted like they would in a straight match. I doubt I'd ever watch something like this again though. N/R

I watched a lot of Occupation of the Indies episodes from Samurai! TV about 10 or so years ago when it used to air and it covered a lot of the smaller indy events, yet Saitama Pro was in that student pro-wrestling category, so it never even made air there...

Its crazy to think Tobita actually isn't a pro-wrestler and Saitama Pro is actually not even a thing and just a bunch of friends playing wrestlers in a small gymnasium.

Tobita is now working against an aluminum covered monster... The monster is attracted to aluminum so Tobita takes a bear break and tosses the can to distract the monster before the monster proceeds to destroy Tobita with aluminum bins... Again Tobita begins tossing mats to drop his opponent before pilling up on top of him with them.

This is as sleazy as it gets for Japanese wrestling.

My dream scenario of a match being fought on a three-inch mat in some random Japanese school gymnasium was achieved but rather than a shoot-style or catch match, I was honored with the army monster destroyer vs. the aluminum robot knight. The soundtrack to this match was incredible as a confused Bauxite figures out its targeting system. Tobita sitting down, guzzling a beer and tossing the aluminum can to simultaneously activate/piss off Bauxite was the highlight for me. Then it turns into an awesome game of whack-a-Tobita until Tobita figures out he can knock off Bauxite's box to hands with the three-inch mats. After a fisherman buster!, Tobita piles the mats onto Bauxite to pin him...game over. What a spectacle.

This Saitama Pro show is being held in a high school gym and has a larger crowd than the one in December that I’ve already watched. You’d think it was some A-list celebrity entering the building the way the fans sprint from one end of the arena to the other to get photos of Bauxite, as it is it’s a guy dressed up like a giant robot! Not only does he look like a robot, but with the short, staccato steps he moves like one too. It appears Bauxite has no idea what’s going on despite the official trying to point him in the direction of Tobita, seemingly more interested in all the people watching. A fed up Tobita grabs the ring announcer’s chair, takes a seat and sinks a beer. He tosses the can away but that finally catches Bauxite’s attention. Seeing the metal discarded and thrown away like that riles the robot up and he wallops Tobita over the head with one of his metal box hands (something that made me laugh out loud). He only just beats the ref’s ten count in getting back to his feet and Bauxite then proceeds to continually clobber him around the head and body with those boxed hands. The match continues in that vane until Tobita picks up one of the ring mats and uses it to knock off Bauxite’s hands. Fisherman buster! Tobita with the headscissors choke but the robot doesn’t tap, so he covers him in the mats and piles on top for the cover.

While I had no idea what was going on in December, I sort of got this. Maybe having watched that previous match I now knew what to expect. A couple of genuine laugh out loud moments and a fun little ten minutes. Roll on Drill Baba, Watermelon Head and the Ghost!
