Fire Pro Wrestling World: The first FPW game in TWELVE years (currently Early Access on Steam, coming soon to PS4)

Is anyone here familiar with the Fire Pro Wrestling video game series? If you're burned out on the WWE 2K games, these are an awesome antidote. You won't get the most realistic or "next-gen" graphics, but what you do get is incredible sim-like gameplay and the best editing suite of any wrestling game series in history.

Fire Pro Wrestling World just came out on Steam in Early Access and it's coming soon to PS4. It's the first new Fire Pro Wrestling game in TWELVE years - since Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on PS2 (re-released digitally on PS3 as a "PS2 Classic" a few years back).

I remember talking about FPW Returns at the time on another board with none other than The Blue Meanie. Needless to say, I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. :)

In the first 24 hours alone, over 800 CAWs have been uploaded on Steam for Fire Pro Wrestling World. So far I have Big Van Vader, Bruiser Brody, Andre the Giant, Finn Balor, and Asuka. There are still tons of wrestlers left to be added, but what an awesome start!

This FPW is different in that you have to play through Mission mode to unlock all of the moves for the CAW. There is already a save file on Steam though to circumvent that.

Because the game is still in Early Access, there are bugs and features that still needed to be added. But it already plays like a dream IMO. Still, I'm sure there are issues and areas to nitpick.

Since there is no Early Access on PS4, I'm guessing that version will be "complete" right out of the gate. For now, though, it's only on Steam.

If you get it on Steam now while it's still in Early Access, it's only $20. The price will eventually be higher when it's out of EA. No word on the PS4 pricing yet, but I assume it will be higher than $20 too.

Maybe not, the last Fire Pro game (FP Returns) was a $19.99 budget title on PS2 so they might go the same route here.

FPW is great. For those of us who had to deal with downloading CAWs to old gen systems, the Steam marketplace is mind blowing.

Sony is currently in "Arrogant Sony" mode, which they always seem to fall into when they are winning a console generation. Recently Minecraft went cross platform for Xbox, PC, and Switch leaving out PS4 users. When asked why, Sony gave a laughable excuse of wanting to protect Playstation users from possible inappropriate content. When Nintendo (the most famously family friendly company in gaming) is on board you know that got laughed out of the room.

It wouldn't surprise me if they pull something similar here. It won't matter though, Fire Pro users find a way. If we could swap data on Japanese only Super Famicom versions back in the day, transferring data to a PS4 won't be tough.

My information may be outdated at this point. There was a post a while back on the Fire Pro Club facebook page, and someone said something about a PS4 server for CAW trading costing too much, and thus there would not be one. I don't know if that is still the case, or if it was ever correct in the first place. But since they seem to be making this game on the cheap, it has steered me toward the PC version.

They said that edit sharing will be available on PS4. The only question will be whether it will be possible to share edits between PS4 and PC.

So, less than 1 week after EA release, they already released an update adding a new move and fixing nearly all the bugs. Spike is really bringing the workrate now.

So yeah, this game's really great. If you haven't done so already you should pick this up if you have Steam. I love the little details like bloodstains on the mat if a bleeding wrestler gets knocked down, and they made the create a wrestler mode even more detailed which I didn't think was possible.

The only knock so far I have is that the manual leaves out information that isn't intuitive like how your downloaded CAWs get put into a retired wrestler category and need to be moved to an active federation to be playable. There's nothing that tells you that, either you find it accidentally or google how to do it. It's not hard to figure out for Fire Pro veterans, but it's an unnecessary barrier for new fans of the series.

It's already quite possibly the best pro wrestling video game of all time, and it s technically still in development. (I'd be willing to listen to arguments in favour of No Mercy or KOC II).

The gameplay is just so fun, and the CAW edit mode is absolutely mind-blowing.

If the story mode is any good at all, that will definitely put FPWW at the top of the list.

I downloaded a couple of CAWs from the workshop, made by by some guy named Jetlag. That you?

Nice one! I'm pretty sure it was Ikeda and a couple of other ones. Thanks for making those and posting them.
