Lutte Internationale TV

Taped at CHLT-TV Studios, Sherbrooke, QC

Broadcasted August 24th, 1985

dieu.jpg220px-Nwalogobw.jpg

(A video package from last week’s Heatwave is shown. We first see Jacques Rougeau winning the tournament to crown a new NWA Canadian International Heavyweight Champion against Lord Humongous. Then, we see the confrontation between NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair and Rick Martel that lead to Richard Charland & Mad Dog Lefebvre betraying Martel and helping Flair in the attack. Then, after the opening sequence, we go to the broadcast booth where awaits Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier.)

Guy Hauray: Hello, wrestling fans, and welcome to Lutte Internationale TV. Heatwave is in the books and we have many new champions across the board. The Midnight Rockers are officially once again the NWA Canadian International Tag Team Champions following a somewhat controversial victory over the Vachons in Stoney Point, ON last Sunday. In fact, the Vachons have invoked their rematch clause and it will take place on Sunday September 8th in Trois-Rivières, QC. We also crowned a new TV Champion as Super Strong Machine came through with his promise and has dethroned Gino Brito for the title. But of course, we can’t go on before congratulating Jacques Rougeau on becoming the new NWA Canadian International Heavyweight Champion after winning this 8-men 1 night tournament, by gaining some measure of revenge on Lord Humongous, who pinned him to secure the NWA World Tag Team Championship for the Creatchman Family last June in Charlotte, NC.

Édouard Carpentier: Lots of exciting matches last weekend and a brand new landscape in Lutte Internationale. It will be very interesting to see who will be the first men to step up to the plate and challenge those new champions.

Guy Hauray: Also, we can’t ignore the elephant in the room as we hope to have some answers from Frenchy’s Legion about their actions at Heatwave against Rick Martel. Frenchy, Richard Charland & Mad Dog Lefebvre are all here this week so there should be no reason why they wouldn’t give us those answers.

Édouard Carpentier: A leopard doesn’t change its spots, Guy. We should’ve known from the start that this would happen. Lefebvre & Charland didn’t care about L’Alliance Québécoise. They were looking for an occasion to stab Rick Martel in the back and they did just that at Heatwave.

Guy Hauray: Well, we might have our answers very shortly since Mad Dog Lefebvre among others is in action in our opening 6-Men Tag Match!

Match #1

Steve Strong, Mad Dog Lefebvre (w/ Frenchy Martin & Richard Charland) & Dory Funk Jr vs Ezra Steffen, Will Daniels & Piers Martell

The most striking thing noticeable in this match is that Mad Dog Lefebvre isn’t even in wrestling gear. In fact, he’s wearing a tuxedo! Mad Dog refuses to get in the ring at all during this match, as he doesn’t want to ruin it! This doesn’t prevent Steve Strong & Dory Funk Jr to be dominant during the match and Steve Strong locks Ezra Steffen into a bearhug. As Steffen is about to quit, NOW Mad Dog wants the tag from the young Strong. Mad Dog steps inside the ring and makes the cover, securing the victory for his team.

Winners: Steve Strong, Mad Dog Lefebvre & Dory Funk Jr

(After the match, Lefebvre, Richard Charland & Frenchy Martin all celebrate together, completely ignoring Steve Strong & Dory Funk Jr. They return to the back, not paying attention themselves to what happened and Frenchy’s Legion join the broadcast booth for an interview.)

Édouard Carpentier: Frenchy, obviously, the question all of us are dying to ask you: why did your men betray Rick Martel at Heatwave?

(Translation : Mr. Carpentier, it’s not a betrayal if it wasn’t a friend in the first place. Rick Martel never was a friend for Richard and Mad Dog. Martel used my Legion to get what he wanted. So what we did on Saturday night was just a reminder that there’s no one to help Martel. Rick Martel isn’t Ric flair. Ric Flair is a true champion. A champion with class and prestige. Rick Martel is a neighbourhood champion who’s nowhere near that level. We were just thrilled to remind him that on Saturday)

Édouard Carpentier: But what was in for you, guys? And what’s....this? (pointing at Mad Dog Lefebvre’s tuxedo)

(Translation : This, Mr. Carpentier, is a gift graciously offered by the NWA World Heavyweight Champion himself. To thank us for our help, he granted us the opportunity to get something from him. I asked for the best cigars in the world and I got them. Richard Charland requested a title match against Ric Flair and he graciously accepted to give him one tonight. And as for Mad Dog, would you look at this tuxedo? Mad Dog went shopping with Flair himself this week and this is custom made. $5000, Mr. Carpentier. So you’ll understand why he doesn’t want to be touched.)

Édouard Carpentier: But isn’t it rubbing it into everyone’s face? Anyone could’ve done that themselves and Ric Flair would’ve done the same thing for them they did for you.

(Translation : I’ll put that on jealousy, Mr. Carpentier. Perhaps I would react just like you, But for now, in preparation for his big fight tonight, you’ll see Le Magnifique in action against one of those masked Japanese guys. Just so that Ric Flair knows that despite our friendship, Richard takes tonight’s match very seriously!)

(Frenchy leaves the broadcast booth along with Richard Charland to head into the ring. While the interview was going on, Charland’s opponent Strong Machine #2 entered the ring, ready to face Le Magnifique.)

Match #2

Strong Machine #2 vs Richard “Le Magnifique” Charland (w/Frenchy Martin & Mad Dog Lefebvre)

The Strong Machines are usually aggressive, which is nothing new, but in the current circumstances, Strong Machine #2 looks particularly aggressive. He almost leaves no time to Charland to get some offense in. Charland is able to get his moments in there but Strong Machine is just wrestling a style that Charland isn’t prepared for. Unusual tactics for Strong Machine #2’s usual gameplan. Strong Machine #2 trips Richard Charland and locks in....a Boston Crab? Both exhausted and shocked by how the match went, Charland quickly taps out and Strong Machine #2 scores a huge win for himself!

Winner: Strong Machine #2

The match has barely ended that Strong Machine #2....unmasks??? IT IS RICK MARTEL!!! The crowd goes nuts as Mad Dog Lefebvre immediately runs backstage, almost tripping in the camera cables, just to be sure that Martel won’t damage his suit. Both Charland and Frenchy are tetanised in fear as Martel goes for them. Charland escapes the ring but Martel has grabbed Frenchy! Martel is about to punch Frenchy when Charland grabs Frenchy by the leg and drags him out of the ring. They also run backstage and Rick Martel is right behind them, seeking revenge for Heatwave!

Guy Hauray: Eddie, I have rarely seen Rick Martel in that frame of mind. He’s irate and if I were Mad Dog Lefebvre, I would hide that tuxedo as far away from him as possible!

Édouard Carpentier: I wouldn’t put it past Rick to tear that tux from Mad Dog Lefebvre’s buddy. One thing is for sure, it’s that he won’t rest until he gets his revenge on Frenchy’s Legion. Might happen sooner rather than later.

Guy Hauray: When we come back, The Great Samu in action!

****COMMERCIAL BREAK****

Match #3

The Great Samu (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman) vs “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal

During the match, the broadcast team hyped Steve Regal’s recent successes, including a strong showing in the NWA Canadian International Heavyweight Championship tournament, despite his loss in the first round. Regal doesn’t seem to be too much affected by that and shows some great skills early in the match against The Great Samu. But eventually, Samu’s experience is too much to overcome for Mr. Electricity. The Great Samu finishes things off with a beautiful Samoan Splash from the top rope to get the win.

Winner: The Great Samu

******COMMERCIAL BREAK******

MAIN EVENT

Match #4

Baron von Raschke (w/Bolshevik Revolution) vs Chavo Guerrero (w/Hector & Mando Guerrero)

Lots of people at ringside for this main event and referee Adrien Desbois is laying down the law early that he won’t tolerate any shenanigans from them. Another complete clash of styles in this one as Von Raschke’s brute tactics square off with Chavo Guerrero’s science & speed. Von Raschke seems a bit overwhelmed at first as Chavo’s lucha libre style comes in handy to destabilize the German. But as the match progresses, thanks sometimes to help from the outside from Smirnoff & Zhukov, Von Raschke gains control of the match and neutralizes Chavo a bit. As the match nears the end, Smirnoff & Zhukov get more and more involved and this prompts chaos outside the ring. Right at that moment, Rick Martel shows up again and smacks Zhukov & Smirnoff with a chair shot in the back! Von Raschke steps outside to defend his comrades and gets the same treatment! The Guerreros know better than to aggravate Martel at that moment and they choose to retreat backstage. Rick Martel drops the chair after everyone left and he’s now headed to the broadcast booth. Édouard Carpentier steps in to interview Martel but he motions to him that he’ll be fine.

Rick Martel: This message is for you, Ric Flair. Nature Boy, if you thought that this weekend was the end, you thought wrong. You just started something that you won’t be able to finish as the World Heavyweight Champion. I proved to you during the Great American Bash Tour that I can beat you and hadn’t it been from your manager JJ Dillon, I would’ve won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship the night before Heatwave. So what I’m gonna do is this; first, I’m gonna take care of Frenchy Martin, Richard Charland & Mad Dog Lefebvre. And then, when I’m through with them, I’m gonna go for you and your championship. It doesn’t matter how many people you send after me; I won’t rest until I take the NWA World Heavyweight Championship from you. You thought you outsmarted me; you thought you broke my spirit. All you did is fuel my hunger and my motivation. Mark my words, Nature Boy. I will get the last laugh and if I have to return to your backyard to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title, so be it. But I promise you that we’ve only just begun!

(The show ends under a thunderous ovation in the studio for Rick Martel as he hands over the mic to Guy Hauray before they do their usual end of the show and the credits roll.)

Then, D'Artagnan took out from the back of his pants what at first looked like a fake nightstick but it's the real thing. NWA Lutte Internationale TV

Taped at CHLT-TV Studios, Sherbrooke, QC

Broadcasted on August 31st, 1985

dieu.jpg220px-Nwalogobw.jpg

Another crazy week, another show in form of recap. Will return to the full format ASAP!

-To start this week's show, a recap from last week's events as Rick Martel went crazy, looking to avenge Frenchy's Legion's betrayal at his expense at Heatwave. Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier mention that Rick Martel is scheduled to be here this week and no one knows in what state of mind he currently is but we might learn sooner rather than later

-In the opening match, the Bolshevik Revolution of Boris Zhukov & Baron Von Raschke squashed the tandem of Morton Easton & Tristram Cullen in quick fashion. But shortly afterwards, Rick Martel rushed the ring, chair in hand and attacked both Zhukov & Von Raschke. Von Raschke was able to escape rather quickly but Martel locked in the Boston Crab on Zhukov and refused to let go until Bruno Sammartino and a slew of referees arrived. Bruno told Martel afterwards that he cannot do this every week and he'll have to suspend him if he has to. Martel tells Bruno that what he wants is Ric Flair and until he can make sure with the NWA Board of Directors that he's gonna have a shot at Ric Flair, he'll stop. If he has to travel to Mid-Atlantic to get his hands on Ric Flair and anyone of his associates, he'll do it.

-Dory Funk Jr fought Strong Machine #3 to a double DQ after things got out of hand with the involvement of Super Strong Machine & Strong Machine #2 who destroyed Dory with a Machine DDT. Afterwards, Super Strong Machine gave a note to the broadcast team saying that he has accomplished his mission to prove that Japanese wrestlers are superior to North American wrestlers by defeating Gino Brito to win the NWA Canadian International TV Championship. In order to truly make it an International title, he'll bring it back with him to Japan and forever be the champion.

-Up next, the entire Creatchman Family arrived on set for an interview. Eddy "the Brain" Creatchman of course gloated about the superiority of his NWA World Tag Team Champions and claims that Jacques Rougeau was lucky to have escaped as the NWA Canadian International Heavyweight Champion. Next time, Lord Humongous will take that title away from him. In the meantime, The Brain has an announcement to make. He starts by saying that he's very proud of his Creatchman Family as all of them have proven to be the most dangerous family in professional wrestling. The Brain wants to expand his family and not only on the wrestler's side but also from a managerial side. While he focuses on the careers of the Botswana Beast & Lord Humongous, Eddy tells The Great Samu & Prince Alofa Fatu that he's now searching for someone to assist him into guiding their careers in the right direction. Soon, the Creatchman Family will be even better than it already is! Next week, The Creatchman Family throws an open challenge to any tag team in the territory to try taking the NWA World Tag Team Titles away from them!

-In this week's main event, "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal goes one-on-one with Alexis Smirnoff. Smirnoff is looking over his shoulder to make sure that Rick Martel isn't around like earlier in the show to attack him. Another big outing for Steve Regal, who continues to impress, taking Alexis Smirnoff to his limits. But in the end, Smirnoff takes the victory away from Regal with a bearhug and Regal has no choice but to submit. As the show ends, we see D'Artagnan the Clown looking on, stoic but not moving.....What has he planned for Lutte Internationale?

  • 3 weeks later...

Catching up on my absence and your August shows were really strong.

I really love the Martel/Flair angle here. Great build to his eventual flight to MACW at some point here in the near future...should lead to a really fun inter-promotional hot angle.

Great championship action throughout the month. Andre's final title defenses and the tag title controversy is a big deal for your promotion right now.
