(Show opens with highlights of the Dusty Rhodes/David Sammaritino feud dating back to 'Rocket City Rumble' in Huntsville, Alabama all the way to their recent interactions in the Bunkhouse Battle Royal, we then go to the opening montage and to the desk with our hosts Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino)

CCWSetSoliePedicino.jpg

Gordon and Joe welcome everyone to the show.  Gordon says we are less than 24 hours away from 'Beach Brawl '85' at the Orange Bowl in Orlando, Florida headlined by not one but TWO STEEL CAGE MAIN EVENTS!! Joe tells us we'll be hearing from the 'American Dream' later in the show and the Southern Television Champion David Sammartino will be defending the title here tonight against 'Nightmare' Danny Davis.  We'll also see footage of Adrian Adonis who will be making his CCW debut tomorrow at Beach Brawl.  Today in our main event we'll see the UWF Southern Tag Team Titles on the line as The Stud Stable (Eddie Gilbert/Tommy Rich) will defend against the top contenders from the USWA The Fabulous Ones (Steve Keirn/Stan Lane)!  Gordon says we'll see all this and much, much more but sends it to the ring.

Coach John Heath catches Bigelow at ringside and asks him if Kevin Von Erich has his number in a no DQ/no count out match? Bigelow asks him where he was during that last match he destroyed TWO men at once.  He says Kevin Von Erich will meet the same fate as everyone else in Continental has….Bigelow says he will eventually retire as CCW champion because NO ONE, least of all a Von Erich can beat him!

COMMERCIAL BREAK

We return from break as Gordon and Joe throw to footage of the Rock & Roll Express in past CCW matches who will be challenging for the CCW tag team titles against The Exotic Superstars (Bill Dundee/Adrian Street) w/Ms. Linda.  We then see footage from Japan of Adrian Adonis in action, Gordon reminds us that Bam Bam Bigelow came here from Japan and he's been unstoppable.

WOW... CCW IS DOING WORK .

I am really looking forward to Beach Brawl.  No disrespect to any other territory but I so enjoy working with Gene and seeing the direction he takes UWF.  Each week it just seems so creative and I never no what to expect but it all so fits the Southern Wrastlin scene.

I'd certainly say CCW is right up there in reguards to being the most unpredictable promotion going, and every show feels like it would be a must watch event. Never know what your gonna get with a CCW show, you just know it's gonna be a lot of fun. Great booking.

Mr. Wrestling 2/Shane Douglas came after Black Bart/Ron Bass were in the ring…..Mr. Wrestling 2 (whose arm was in a sling) took the mic and said the best way to beat two rowdy Texans…..was with another rowdy Texan and introduced Shane's mystery partner….STAN 'THE LARIAT' HANSEN!!

Loser Leaves Town

FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE

The Bullet pinned "Prince of Darkness" Kevin Sullivan in a wild brawl that went all over ringside and at one point out into the crowd…..shockingly there was no interference from the 'House of Humperdink' nor was Humperdink at ringside for this match…Sullivan must leave CCW

UWF Continental Tag Team Championship

The Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton/Robert Gibson) defeated The Exotic Superstars (Bill Dundee/Adrian Street) w/Ms. Linda when Linda interfered and hit Gibson with her purse allowing Street to get the pinfall…..The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne) came to ringside and pointed out Linda's purse in the ring and explained what happened…..Senior Referee Ron West restarted the match, Morton/Gibson double dropkicked Dundee who was covered by Morton for the 1-2-3!!  The Nightmares celebrate in the ring with the new champions The Rock & Roll Express!

UWF Southern Heavyweight Championship

Mr. Olympia

Vs.

UWF World Six Man Tag Team Championship

Robert Fuller/Jimmy Golden/Andre the Giant defeated The Stud Stable (Big John Studd/Tommy Rich/Eddie Gilbert) w/"Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller by DQ when Ron Fuller came in and broke his cane across the back of Andre the Giant, Andre simply turned around and looked at Fuller who begged off but Andre picked up the "Tennessee Stud" and body slammed him….Big John Studd then charged Andre and got body slammed as well.  The crowd went wild, Fuller and Golden got a measure of revenge against the Stud Stable but failed to win the World Six Man Tag Team titles

UWF Continental Heavyweight Championship

NO DQ/NO COUNTOUT

Bam Bam Bigelow pinned Kevin Von Erich after the Fabulous Freebirds hit the ring, Michaels Hayes and Buddy Roberts double teamed Von Erich…allowing Bigelow to hit the Slingshot Splash and get the 1-2-3!   The Freebirds and Bigelow continued to triple team Von Erich after the match until the brand new UWF Southern Tag Team Champions THE FABULOUS ONES (Steve Keirn/Stan Lane) ran in with chairs to make the save, Michael Hayes…grabbed the mic on the way out and simply said, "To be continued, pretty boys!"

UWF World Tag Team Titles

"The Legion of Doom"

The Road Warriors (Animal/Hawk) w/Paul Elleriing defeated The House of Humperdink (Purple Haze/Killer Brooks) w/Sir Oliver Humperdink when Hawk pinned Brooks after the 'Doomsday Device'

This was originally scheduled to be Purple Haze and Death Wish but Death Wish balked at taking the Doomsday Device and no showed….it's thought he may be done in CCW at this point.

SEMI-MAIN EVENT

THE RECKONING

STEEL CAGE FINAL SHOWDOWN

Special Referee: Bruno Sammartino

"The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes

Vs.

"The Living Legacy" David Sammartino

As the match started David tried to climb out of the cage but Bruno pulled him back down and shouted at him "fight like a man!", Dusty controlled most of the match with some offense from David scattered here and there….both men were bloodied after being raked against the cage..Bruno mostly stayed out of the way and let them fight…but when it looked like Dusty was about to get the win, David reached in his trunks and pulled out the 'knux' that's been scoring him victories lately….Dusty grabbed his arm and pried the knux out of David's hand and then handed them to Bruno……Dusty then locked a sleeper on David in the center of the ring……Bruno lifted David's arm once and it dropped, he lifted it a 2nd time…and it dropped…..as he Bruno lifted David's arm a third time with his left arm….from out of nowhere he came around with a right with the knux on his fist and knocked Dusty out cold….David falls back on top of Dusty as he goes down….Bruno slowly counts…1---2--3!!! The Orlando crowd is IN SHOCK!! At first there's just stunned silence and then it turned into a near riot as fans threw things at the cage and some started trying to rush the cage and security and local police fought to escort the Sammartinos out of the cage and back to the locker room

An impromptu intermission had to be taken while they tried to settle the fans down for the main event

MAIN EVENT

STEEL CAGE MATCH

UWF UNIFIED WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Jerry 'the King' Lawler pinned "Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol w/"Classy" Freddie Blassie & Teddy Muscles after a piledriver to win the UWF Unified World Championship.

Afterwards, Teddy Muscles, Blassie, and Harley Race were fighting with the outside referee to get into the cage…Lawler sees this and climbs over to escape the attack….they manage to get in the cage just as Lawler is getting to the floor and leaving with his new title belt.  Idol struggles to get back to his feet as Blassie starts berating him about losing…Idol tries to shrug him off but Blassie slaps him across the face, Idol grabs him around throat and starts choking him as the crowd erupts but Idol is quickly cut off by Teddy Muscles and Harley Race…..they put the boots to him and then give him a spike piledriver……they continue to put the boots to him until Dusty Rhodes and Jerry Lawler come back out and clear them out of the ring.

Dusty grabs the mic and says, "Freddie Blassie….you tell them Sammartinos…THEIR ASS IS MINE, BABY!!!  RIGHT HERE IN MIAMI I WANT THEM BOTH IN A CAGE AGAINST ME AND WHOEVER I DECIDE TO BRING WITH ME!!"

The crowd erupts!! The show ends on a high note with the Dream and the new World Champ in the cage as EMTs check on the fallen Austin Idol.

Let me congratulate you on the show off the year!

Match by Match:

-Was surprised to see Brad in the opener and more surprised to see him go down in defeat.  Wonder where he turns next?

- Hansen would have really pumped up this crowd and it is a great way to continue to build Shane Douglas.  Even though Wrestling II brought in Hansen, I wonder if this is not the beginning of some jealousy on his part.

- I must admit that my least favorite match was the Loser Leave Town Match.  Not because of how it was done but  because I think they are both so important to your territory.  The Bullet in Alabama and Sullivan in Florida.  Hope to see him back at some point.

-Great way to bring in Harley Race.  Being a mystery wrestler hypes up attention on the match and then to give him a title on night 1 makes his an automatic contender for the World title.

-6 Man tag match was executed perfectly.  Andre gets to slam Stud which could lead to a battle of the giants at some point and also the slam on Fuller makes the crowd jump for joy and almost forget that the heels still have the belts.  You also do not have to worry about getting Andre from Vince McMahon to defend the belt.

-Not only is your VonErich-Bigelow feud on fire but now Texas can be Texas again as we got the VonErich/Freebird battle underway!

-The loss by by the Exotic Superstars was needed here to keep your tag team division fresh.  They came off as two great heels and can continue on to the next angle without losing a step whild now we get to see f the Nightmares were really friendly to the RnR Express or was that not just a ploy to get a "freebie" in terms of a title shot.

-Thanks for adding to the legacy of the Road Warriors.  Someone not even showing up makes them the most feared team in all of wrestling.  What will the Faces of Fear have to say.....stay tuned

-Oh those dirty Italians.  How could Bruno turn heel... another new and exciting angle +who will Dusty have as a partner.

-Those Memphis guys are like two brothers.  They beat the crap out of each other but how dare someone else go after your bro.  Lawler, the new champ, comes back to save Idol.

Angles ending, continuing and starting makes this show awesome + its creativity in both match making and results makes it one of the best I have read yet.

LET THE LAWLER REIGN BEGIN!

Good god the Sammartino angle would be iconic in the south. Perfectly set up angle. And your lucky nobody set the building on fire. Holy Crap thats good stuff.

This was just a great great show. It's a pleasure being partners in the UWF with a company putting on shows this great.

I think this is the show that puts you on equal level in the UWF/UWSA. CCW has a right to be the top promotion in that alliance and you have proven it with talent, writing, and creativity with this show. You put together one hell of a roster and have some good shocks and surprises that make people wonder what is going on and what is going to happen next. Fantastic outing and it really pushes the rest of us to step up our own games and write better.

Freddie Blassie is assembling quite the stable in Continental now. Harley Race vs Jerry Lawler should be a fantastic feud.

UWF/CCW Television (Post-Beach Brawl Episode)

Recorded on August 7, 1985 at the Sportatorium in Tampa, FL. In front of a live studio audience

Airing on Florida Superstation WTOG, Texas Superstation WTVT, and various television outlets throughout Alabama

and Mississippi on Aug 10, 1985

Hosted by Gordon Solie & Joe Pedicino

Interviewer: Coach John Heath

Ring Announcer: Rhubarb Jones

(Show opens with highlights of Beach Brawl- Andre slamming Studd then Ron Fuller, Bullet pinning Kevin Sullivan, The Rock & Roll Express defeating Street & Dundee for the CCW Tag Team titles with help from the Nightmares, the surprise debut of Harley Race!, then a still shot of Bruno Sammartino raising David Sammartino's hand in victory over a fallen Dusty Rhodes, and a still frame of Jerry Lawler wearing the UWF Unified World Championship belt as we go to the opening montage then to the desk with Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino)

CCWSetSoliePedicino.jpg

Gordon welcomes everyone to another episode of Continental Championship Wrestling brought to you by the UWF, he says that Beach Brawl turned out to be one of the biggest wrestling events of the year, not only due to the HUGE turnout by the fans but by the amazing events that took place in Orlando.  Joe Pedicino says that he still hasn't gotten over the actions of one..Bruno Sammartino and that we will hear from Bruno during the program and find why did what he did to Dusty Rhodes in that cage.  Gordon says there's too much to cover here at the top of the program but throughout the show they'll discuss Beach Brawl and all the fall out that's involved.  We'll also see the television debut of the new UWF Southern Champion 'Handsome' Harley Race defending against Kendall Windham in our main event.  We'll hear from the new Continental Tag Team Champions the Rock & Roll Express, plus a 'revenge match' as The Nightmares take on 'Superstar' Bill Dundee and "Exotic" Adrian Street, the Exotic Superstars.  All this more but right now they throw it to the ring for our opening bout.

In the opening match Rocky Johnson defeats the Soviet Saint with a powerslam

03.jpg

Post Match: Coach John Heath asks Rocky Johnson if he's up challenging the seemingly unstoppable Bam Bam Bigelow for the CCW Title this Monday night in Birmingham? Johnson says he's always up for any challenge and that Bigelow might be big and bad, but at the end of the day he's still just a man…and any man can be beat on any given day and that includes Bam Bam Bigelow.

After the promo, Gordon and Joe talk over some footage of Bigelow vs. Kevin Von Erich at Beach Brawl and discuss the shocking debut of the Fabulous Freebirds (Buddy Roberts and Michael Hayes) who helped Bam Bam retain over Von Erich.  However, the new Southern Tag Champions the Fabulous Ones (Stan Lane/Steve Keirn) came in post match to even the odds.  They pitch to a pre-taped promo with the Freebirds.

HayesRoberts.jpg

VTR- (The Freebirds are standing in front of a Confederate Flag) Hayes says he doesn't understand all the shock and controversy about their appearance at Beach Brawl because everybody knows that the 'Birds are going to be where the action is, and the action is in Continental Wrestling these days.  He said that Stan Lane and Steve Keirn couldn't leave well enough alone stealing their Fabulous moniker, but now they've stuck their nose in Freebird business and now they will have to take that dreaded walk down Badstreet and that the 'Fabs' aren't man enough to make that trip….Roberts says they will take those Southern Tag Team titles home whenever they good and ready!

COMMERCIAL BREAK/Local House Show promos

LarsAnderson.jpg

VTR- Lars Anderson is on a beach in Hawaii….it's cloudy…he says it's the "calm before the storm", he says he's bring the greatest tag team in the world today, Jumbo Tsuruta and Genochiro Tenryu, The Hiroshima Wrecking Crew to the UWF and Continental Championship Wrestling.  He says their path of destruction will lead them to the Road Warriors and the UWF World Tag Team Championships.  He says that no one in CCW can provide them competition and that Hawk and Animal have never stepped into the ring with the likes of a team the stature of The Hiroshima Wrecking Crew….Lars looks to the clouds and says, "The storm is coming….you've been warned."

ExoticSuperstars.jpg

Gordon says those are bold and powerful words from Lars Anderson however Tenryu and Tsuruta are "double tough" and can back up those bold claims. This brings out Adrian Street w/Ms. Linda and Bill Dundee.  Street says it remains to be seen if Anderson's boys can back up those words but someone who didn't back up their words was his so-called partner Bill Dundee….Street tells Dundee that he embarrassed him in Orlando in front of CCW's largest audience ever and that Dundee 'dropped the ball' and now Adrian can barely show his face here on television….Dundee fires back that Street was in the match too and that he was just as responsible for the loss as he was…Street gets nose to nose with Dundee and points out that it wasn't HIS shoulders that got pinned it was Dundee's….Street tells him tonight they've got the Nightmares, and he "better not" embarrass him again!  Street says, "Let's go Linda" and leaves Dundee standing there mumbling in disgust as he leaves in the opposite direction.

The second match of the day features The Bullet defeating 'Golden Boy' Chic Donovan with a sleeperhold

Bullet4.jpg

Post Match: Bullet comes over to the desk and says that this Monday night in Birmingham he'll be facing The Grappler in a #1 Contender's match for the Southern Heavyweight Championship and it's time to get some gold around his waist once again.

VTR- Bruno Sammartino is joined by Gordon Solie in a locker room at the Orange Bowl hours after the conclusion of Beach Brawl.  Gordon says he wanted to get Bruno away from David, Blassie, and the "rest of that bunch" to get the truth out of him about what happened.  Bruno says he did it for two reasons….Reason #1 It's his son, he asks Gordon what would he do if his son needed help? Gordon shrugs, Bruno continues that beyond that…the 2nd reason he did it is because for years he's been disgusted at the audacity of Dusty Rhodes calling himself, 'the American Dream'.  He says, "Can you imagine that, Gordon?" Bruno says that HE has lived the 'American Dream', his family came to America from the 'old country' and he managed to do what thousands of immigrants could only dream of….he has lived the 'American Dream', he's a record setting legendary World Champion and a hero to Italians and all American people with the things he's accomplished and continues to accomplish in his life….meanwhile a "big, fat slob" who doesn't have an athletic bone in his body is an inspiration to couch potatoes and bums everywhere that make them think they can succeed in the greatest sport in the world without talent, ability, or a healthy body….he's a fraud, he's an embarrassment, and he's everything that's wrong with the sport of professional wrestling.  I will gladly come back here in October and team with my son David against whatever dreg would lower themselves to team with a person like Dusty Rhodes.  I know I'm not what I once was, and I'm well past my prime…..but on my worst day, I could beat a pathetic slob like Dusty Rhodes.

Joe Pedicino says those are strong, strong words from Bruno Sammartino and he says next week Dusty Rhodes will be here IN THE STUDIO to respond to those comments from Bruno.

Coach John Heath is joined by the new Continental Tag Team Champions The Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton/Robert Gibson)  Morton says that Beach Brawl was an incredible event and that Dundee/Street were a tough team but they were up for the challenge and they are proud to be the new CCW Tag Team Champions.  Heath says this Monday night in Birmingham that Lars Anderson's Japanese team of Tsuruta and Tenryu will take on the Nightmares to determine who will face the Rock & Roll Express for the tag team titles right here on television next week.  Gibson said whoever wins it doesn't matter cause 'Rock & Roll is here to stay'.  Morton says they are going to hang out and scout the Nightmares in case they get the win in Birmingham.

The third match is a grudge match:

The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne)

Vs.

The Exotic Superstars (Adrian Street/Bill Dundee) w/Ms. Linda

A hard fought match with some friction between Dundee/Street here and there….at one point the Nightmares take over on Dundee and have him in trouble….two different times Dundee tries to crawl over and tag Adrian Street who turns his back and walks down the apron leaving Dundee at the mercy of Davis/Wayne……finally Wayne goes for a legdrop off the top rope and Dundee moves out of the way,  Dundee makes his way to corner and Street turns to walk away but Dundee blasts him with a big right hand with stuns Street, Dundee then "tags" him with a slap to the chest then flips Street into the ring and then leaves the ringside area completely….Street staggers to his feet where he's met by Davis who has since tagged in and gives Street a tombstone piledriver….he then tags Wayne who nails the top rope legdrop and covers Street for the 1-2-3!!  The Nightmares get revenge on the Exotic Superstars who are seemingly no more.

Gordon and Joe talk over highlights of Adrian Adonis' debut match against Brad Armstrong where Adonis was victorious, we then see the following night in Birmingham where Adonis helped Harley Race retain the Southern Title against Mr. Olympia, then later in the night Race/Adonis/Sammartino/Teddy Muscles beatdown Jerry 'the King' Lawler after his successful title defense against David Sammartino.  This brings out the new UWF Unified World Champion Jerry Lawler. Lawler says that Blassie and his crew may have gotten the best of him last Monday night but tomorrow night he'll have Mr. Olympia as a tag team partner and they will get a measure of revenge against those guys in Birmingham.  Mr. Olympia comes to join Lawler and says he's glad to have such a great partner to take on these guys and get revenge for both of them.

Interns.jpg

Dr. Johnny V. comes out with his masked tag team The Interns.  Lawler asks "when exactly did you become a Doctor?" Dr. V says that's none of his business but if they want to step in the ring right now they will show why they are the best tag team in the world today! Lawler looks Olympia who says, "Let's do it!"

In the impromptu fourth match UWF World Champion Jerry 'the King' Lawler/Mr. Olympia defeated The Interns w/Dr. Johnny V when Lawler pinned Intern #2 after a fist drop from the 2nd rope

Solie: "We've got a wild melee going on here as Lawler and Olympia decided not to wait for Birmingham for revenge, tune in next week as the Rock & Roll Express will be in action and much, much more…SO LONG FROM THE SUNSHINE STATE!!"

So much great stuff going on in Continental right now.

I wouldn't want to step into the ring with the Hiroshima Wrecking Crew if I were any tag team in the Project right now. Oh my, this is gonna be good.

I think that "Harley Race's sidekick" is a good role for Adonis, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you use Tsuruta and Tenryu here.

WOW!  So much going on here.

I enjoyed the "double tough" quote by Gordon.  That brought ne back to my childhood real quick and I think Lars may just have something here with this Hiroshima Wrecking Crew.

-The American Dream interview from Bruno was so realistic and I am excited to see where this goes.

-The Soviet Saint....  Very interesting and this brings instant heat.

Again, so very creative.

The Sportatorium is the place to be.  A rare loss by the VonErichs in that building gets revenges by Kevin and all go home happy.

Nice use of Adonis here.  It is a quality match and starts to build the Race-Lawler feud if you want.
