AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for November 29th

The big news going into this show was the announcement that the upcoming cage matches between Paul Orndorff and Curt Hennig, as well as Lex Luger and Nick Bockwinkel, would be Loser Leaves Town stipulations

Dan Spivey vs. Pvt. Mick Foley

Bizarre. Foley came out looking, if anything, more down at the heels than the week before, with ragged fatigues and long hair that wouldn’t pass military muster. Spivey came out and did his usual showboating routine, even throwing his t-shirt right at Foley, but Foley just kept giving him the same, dead-eyed stare. That all changed when the bell rang, as Foley immediately charged at Spivey, bowling him over and raining punches down on the startled Varsity Club member. Spivey tried to fire back, but the crazed Foley was relentless in his attack. The ref tried to interpose himself between the two, but got a headbutt from Foley for his troubles, as did Kevin Sullivan when he tried to come in on Spivey’s behalf. This meant the end of the match, but not the action as the two kept brawling until Cpl. Scott Hall charged out and was ultimately able to calm Foley down.

Killer Khan & Jerry Blackwell vs. British Steel

The young British Rookies put in a game effort in trying to hold off the two monsters of the Sinister Syndicate, but ultimately it was not enough as Blackwell hit a power slam on Smiley for the win. This was not enough for them, as Killer Khan went up top to go for his dreaded flying kneedrop, but Regal was able to pull Smiley out of the ring in time.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Leo Burke

These two put on an incredible technical display that went back and forth , and ended when Burke was attempting to hook in the sleeper hold, but Chavo was able to block it and then reverse it into a German Suplex for the win. Both men shook hands after the match.

Greg Gagne & The Killer Bees vs. Tony Atlas & The Onyx Express

This heated match came to a shocking end when Mike Shaw charged out to the ring and attacked Gagne. While the Onyx Express held off the Bees, Shaw power slammed Gagne before hitting a series of running splashes that crushed him. Gagne ended up being take out of the ring on a stretcher, which puts his upcoming match in Winnipeg with Atlas into question.

AWA Canadian Title match : Rick Martel © vs. Don Muraco

Muraco tried to use his size and strength to overwhelm the popular Quebecois, but Martel was able to outlast the assault and hit a slingshot cross body press to pin the Hawaiian.

Tony Atlas vs. ???

Atlas’ opponent was supposed to be Greg Gagne, but after Mike Shaw’s vicious attack on Gagne left him too injured to participate. Speculation who would take his place was answered when …. Ricky Steamboat came to the ring!!! Steamboat hadn’t been seen since his former friend Paul Orndorff had given him a series of piledrivers some time ago, but now he was back and went right after Atlas. The match raged back and forth and Atlas thought he had put down the challenge when he clotheslined Steamboat out of the ring, but Steamboat caught himself on the top rope, then swiftly ascended to the top turnbuckle to come off and pin Atlas with a cross body press. The crowd exploded at the victory of their beloved favorite.

AWA American Title Loser-Leaves-Town Cage Match : Lex Luger © vs. Nick Bockwinkel

Luger was attempting the Human Torture Rack on Bockwinkel but Nick blocked it and countered with a roll up. Luger reversed it with his own roll up aided by a fistful of trunks, but Nick was able to kick out and send Luger face first into the cage. Nick then executed a belly to back suplex on the staggered Luger to win the match. Nick Bockwinkel is now the AWA American champion. Lex Luger must leave the AWA

AWA World Title Loser-Leaves-Town Cage Match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Curt Hennig

Hennig had Orndorff lined up for the Ax Lariat, but Orndorff ducked and Hennig went hard head-first into the cage. Orndorff then nailed Hennig with a nasty elbow smash to the back of the head before hitting the Piledriver to win the match. Orndorff is still the AWA World Champion. Hennig must leave the AWA.
