I am learning so much about Hot Topic and related stores around the country from this thread.

I live in Indiana. When the local Hot Topic opened in our mall, it was met with protests from bible-thumpers that deemed it satanic.

They also have deemed Marilyn Manson satanic, Magic: The Gathering the card game, we still can't buy alcohol on Sundays, have well over 100 churches in a 60k population city & had plans for a Casino river boat shot down multiple times due to "potential sin."

Yeah. I can't wait to go back to Michigan. This state is backwards fucking garbage.

  • 1 month later...

if its in driving distance, I'm there.

Hypothetically- a rematch of Jericho vs Omega with Bryan Danielson and/or CM Punk in the main event and Rey Jr on the card should easily do the trick I would expect. Problem is Jericho vs Omega ended rather decisively so its hard to do a rematch. And without Jericho, Danielson, Punk or Rey Jr, there is no way you get to 10,000.

Yeah, the September 1 date is not a coincidence. Bryan's contract would be up by then. That's one of the draws. Jericho and Rey would be easy gets. There's a chance this is a PWG co-production, which would mean Long Beach, and probably the same arena the NJPW USA show would run.

Here's the thing I'm gonna be looking out for: How many guys get signed in the next seven months. Because there's a good chance WWE comes calling for a good amount of the talent this show will be looking to add, and spiteful Vince is always the most aggressive Vince.

I don't think you can headline the show with Jericho at all. I think it has to be Danielson/Omega. Punk/Jericho has a history and with Jericho's history of surprise, Punk being his surprise opponent would be worthwhile.

The other thing is that I don't know how much they'll be able to hide. And with what happened to Meltzer tonight, a lot of that publicity is going to probably have to come from elsewhere. I'm rooting for it to succeed, but they have some pretty big hurdles ahead of them.

Where did you get that Bryan date? Everything I have heard for the past year says late September is when it is up.

Wondering the same. The Observer said the 9/1 date rules out Bryan.

Also, havent seen anything about PWG being involved, since all the guys promoting the show are contracted ROH workers. Its going to be a streaming PPV, so itll almost definitely be a co-promotion with ROH and possibly some NJPW involvement, Id guess.

Im hoping for Chicago or Cow Palace. Anywhere else, Im probably out.

Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see when they announce the big names involved in this and if Vince will go full Vince and do whatever he can to hurt the show.

Kinda weird they chose a date so close to Bryan's contract being up but reportedly, one that will left him out of it. Wouldn't have been smarter to wait till November and have some time to promote his long awaited return? Or, and this is a long shot, maybe Bryan told them he's not leaving WWE (either because he's been promised he'll wrestle again or got some bad tests results).

If NJPW doesn't book it before, I wonder if an Okada vs Omega main event could be possible. It's not something New Japan would do in most scenarios, but if it's non title, maybe? Would fans be hyped for a 4th match between them if there's no belt on the line? I still think that's bigger than Rey vs Kenny, at least for the bulk of fans that are into The Bucks/Omega/Cody.

It feels crazy to speculate on something like Bryan right now, but the CMLL Anniversary show is generally in september too and that is a current dream of his as best as I know. Who knows.

He wants to have an apuestas match with his hair on the line, no coincidence he's been growing it out the last couple of months. I don't think he'll be able to show up for Aniversario but at some point he's going to appear in CMLL and lay the ground work for a big 2019 match...if stays healthy.

I assumed the Bryan thing since it was September. I also feel like it's a situation where Bryan could straight up leave with one month to go. In fact, that would be a much bigger deal.

And Meltz doubled down on protecting Elgin after his allegations last night on Twitter and pretty much burned up his credibility. The backlash to it will be ongoing and they're gonna have to distance themselves from it.

I would say there is a 50/50 chance this is streamed. 90% chance Highspots releases it.

I think they have several options on the table for streaming between ROH Honor Club or whatever it's going to be called, regular ROH PPV through the Fite App, HighSpots (there's probably something there since they did that live "Ask The Elite" live stream a couple months back right after the initial Jericho/Omega angle), or even NJPW World if they are involved. I can't imagine pretty smart business people like the Bucks who monetize literally everything leaving that easy revenue on the table. I know they want to make it a destination show but the reality is that there are plenty of people who don't have a spare $1K for the trip, ticket, and accommodations that would pay $15 (or whatever) for a stream of it at home. Not to mention, I don't think guys are going to be wanting to take pay cuts just to be on this show (like I have heard speculated, I think on the VOW Flagship pod). Big names need to be paid.

The BIG NAMES won't take pay cuts, sure. The Mysterios will still cost their price tag. Any indie name though like a Keith Lee or a Sami Callihan would take that cut.

I have no qualms with saying that this show is not being ran with the idea of making lots of money. It is entirely a statement show. They are going to need every single person they can to make that trip and streaming it live seems like an obvious thing to do in 2018 it does seem counter to the destination event they are presenting.

It really opens up the potential for this show's draw when you start to wonder how much money they are willing to lose on it. If they're willing to lose a couple of million to make their point then it could get really interesting.
