Two exciting shows that really built up the Christmas Star Wars. Kevin defending against Idol should be a great championship match. Funks going against the Pringle Dynasty should be a fun one. Freebirds and Hot Stuff Inc. will be a wild one for sure. Great card from top to bottom. I'm sure Jimmy Jam is a little nervous going into Starrcade without Embry in his corner.

I just love your style. I read this and it feels like I am truly watching an episode of WCCW back in the 80's when it was on in NY. All the angles seem like life and death and that is what made Southern Wrestling so fun for me. Great show and I am excited for all the NWA shows coming up soon to end a year in which you guys have truly become the leader in the industry. If the territories had been run by you 4 NWA guys, the world of wrestling today would be so much better.

I have some intrigue into the Kevin Von Erich and Austin Idol contest. I think everyone has seen that I don't have much value in Idol but this could be the turning point for that.

Benoit winning the tournament is a good move. If I remember correctly he is pretty small at this point in his career so he can be a good face for the title.

Also looking forward to the Freebirds vs Hotstuff six-man. Seems like a nice clash of styles in that one.

Marc Lowrance talks to Fritz Von Erich about the condition of Mike Von Erich after Big John Studd's unprovoked attack after the six man tag match in Amarillo on 12/21. Fritz said that due to the nature of the attack by Big John Studd, the NWA Board of Directors have ruled that Big John Studd has been suspended pending a review of the footage and will not be allowed to compete tonight and that Percy Pringle has opted to have the Spoiler take his place tonight to defend the title against the Funks. Fritz then announced that his nephew Lance Von Erich would be coming into the territory to take Mike's bookings until Mike has recovered from injury which is expected to be 6 to 8 weeks.

Bad News came to the ring and Marc Lowrance informed him and the crowd that Eric Embry is not at the Arena, no one knows his whereabouts but at this time, Frank Dusek has declared Bad News the winner via forfeit……Referee Rick Hazard raises Bad News hand and declares him the winner. "Iceman" King Parsons comes to the ring and says if Bad News doesn't have a challenger, he has never received his rematch for the Texas title and this seems like a perfect time for a rematch since neither Garvin or Embry are here to cost him the match this time…….Bad News takes offense to this insinuation that Garvin and Embry are the reason he's the champ and agrees to the match!

NWA Texas Heavyweight Championship

Bad News Allen defeated "Iceman" King Parsons by pinfall after hitting the 'Ghetto Blaster'

Always something good going on in WCCW. Freebirds/Hot Stuff Inc turned out to be just as wild as I thought it would be. Kokina will be a force in WCCW. Goodbye Sir David. Fun angle with Bad News and Parsons. Funks as champs in Texas will be a lot of fun. Love the ending to the championship bout as we could be heading into a Hart/Pringle feud. You really have a way with blowing things off and setting up new angles on the same show. I can learn a lot from you.

Gary Hart vs. Percy is a very interesting feud. One thing I always liked about WCCW was the face/heel structure changing around depending on who was against who. Bad News Allen is coming off like a real badass and I like it. The guy should have been at least a midcard gatekeeper-type of a star for the later half of his career.

What intrigues me the most is how you're gonna book Lance Von Erich in your WCCW. I remember IRL that things didn't go over so well with the Dallas faithful back then - but I think that the fake Fritz heart attack angle didn't help the situation - but there are so many ways you can go with this and I'm really looking forward to see all of it unfold.

World Class Championship Wrestling TV

Recorded at the Sportatorium in Dallas, TX on 12/19 Airing on Friday 12/27 on WTVT throughout Texas And various outlets across the Southwest. Hosted by Bill Mercer Ring Announcer/Interviewer: Marc Lowrance

billmercerwccw.jpg

Mercer: "What an amazing night it was on Christmas as WCCW brought you Christmas Day Star Wars and the NWA brought you Starrcade from TWO different locations…the biggest night in pro wrestling in the year 1985 and a new World Heavyweight Champion was crowned as Rick Martel defeated 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair to unify the World Championships. We also saw new NWA World Tag Team Champions crowned as the Andersons, Arn and Ole captured the titles from Lord Humongous and the Botswana Beast. Our very own Kerry Von Erich won a huge 2 ring $100,000 Battle Royal and so much other great action took place that we will discuss it all in depth in the weeks to come but right now I want to speak to Fritz Von Erich about the suspension of Big John Studd."

12108750_10207375022191917_8089693936626

Fritz: "After the heinous attack by Big John Studd on my son Mike Von Erich, the NWA Board of Directors suspended Big John Studd and declared he could not return to action until he paid a $10,000 fine, a fine that he refused to pay on Christmas night which kept him out of the NWA North American tag team title match which his partners lost. He has since still refused to pay the fine….but I'm here to announce that as of 30 minutes ago John Studd's suspension has been lifted as his $10,000 fine has been paid by none other than my boy Kerry Von Erich who took ten grand of his Starrcade winnings to pay Studd's fine so that he, Kevin, and my nephew Lance Von Erich….can take on Studd, Grappler, the Spoiler this Saturday night in Houston at the Sam Houston Coliseum in hopes of gaining revenge on Studd for his attack on their brother Mike in Amarillo."

Mercer: "WOW! You wanna talk about a huge statement…..Kerry Von Erich shilling out ten grand of his Starrcade winnings just to get a chance at Big John Studd tells you exactly how serious the Von Erichs are about getting revenge on the Pringle Dynasty…more on all this later but right now let's go to the ring for action here on World Class Championship Wrestling!"

MATCH #1:

The Desperados (Black Bart/Ron Bass) w/Killer Brooks defeated Jed Johnson/Brett Jackson when Bass pinned Johnson after a shoulder breaker

(Marc Lowrance catches up to the Desperados in the dressing room)

Marc: "Bart, things didn't exactly go your way in Quebec City against Jacques Rougeau."

Bart: "Now listen here dadgummit….them stinkin' dadgum cheatin' Canadian referees up there had the fix in before we even got up there! It ain't no coincidence I beat his stinkin' brains out ever time we fought in Texas so they had to bring me up there to Canada where them Cousteaus own all the referees and they screwed me out that Canadian Intercontinental title….I hate Canada and I hope I never go there ever again….if Jock Cousteau has any guts he'll come back to Texas to fight me…..but enough about that goof….this Saturday in Houston, me and Ron Bass get a shot at the tag belts against the Funk Brothers….the Funk Brothers aren't real Texans like me and Ronnie Bass….they're a couple of wannabes…there a joke and those belts will be ours come Saturday night!"

COMMERCIAL

MATCH #2:

"Wildcat" Wendell Cooley pinned The Intern with a running bulldog

(A pre-taped promo airs with Austin Idol and Gary Hart)

Hart: "The thing that took place in the main event at Christmas Star Wars was a travesty and an embarrassment….A man who was supposedly suspended is allowed to come to the ring and interfere in a title match and cost my man Austin Idol the championship…..So I'm saying this right now, Fritz Von Erich better make this right and make this right soon…..Austin Idol deserves a rematch and it better happen soon…and Percy Pringle better come apologize and make this right or he'll have hell to pay too."

Idol: "Kevin Von Erich, you should get down on your knees and thank Big John Studd because he is the ONLY reason you still have that title…..Let me make this VERY VERY clear…I don't fear you Big John Studd and one day our paths will cross and you will answer for ruining my Christmas….but until then you can wait and wonder when and where it will happen….but I will get my revenge in due time one way or another….if you don't believe me, just go to Puerto Rico and ask Dutch Mantell."

MATCH #3:

The Mighty Kokina w/Gary Hart pinned Will Owens after a 'big splash'

Kokina3.png

COMMERCIAL

MATCH #4:

Lance Von Erich pinned Sammy Hall with a flying cross body off the top rope

(Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin, Precious, and Eric Embry join Bill Mercer in the dressing room area)

c4fb033e0f60f4a280a958296d592c66--jimmy-

Garvin: "YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!! Bill Mercer…no one had a better Christmas than me and my squeeze with me successfully defending my title by single handedly beating Roddy Piper in the center of the ring!"

Mercer: "Single handedly? Center of the ring? Eric Embry helped you beat Piper!"

Embry.jpg

Embry: "No I didn't!! You weren't even there, you have no idea what happened!"

Mercer: "I haven't seen the footage but I was told what happened and you obviously weren't here in Dallas for your match with Bad News Allen!"

Garvin: "So you just believe whatever you are told?? Trust me, I beat Piper on my own fair and square and Eric was NOT in Greensboro for Starrcade."

Mercer: "If he wasn't in Greensboro, then where was he? Why did he no show his match with Bad News Allen for the Texas title?"

Embry: "Well you see….I was uh…..I um…" (Garvin interjects)

Garvin: "Listen Mercer, not that it's ANY of your business but I'll tell you where Eric was on Christmas night because he's too modest to tell you. Every Christmas, Eric goes out and brings toys to orphans and provides a warm lap…..I mean meal for single moms all across Texas….that's why he didn't show up to wrestle Bad News because he was out there picking up Santa's slack on Christmas night which was far more important than the Texas title."

Mercer: "Well if that's true, then it's commendable but I have it on good authority that he was under the ring in Greensboro causing Roddy Piper to get counted out."

Garvin: "Well that's just absurd….I mean it's a genius idea and I wish we had thought of it but I just straight up beat Piper, one on one…and that's all you need to report here on WCCW regardless of what sort of lies they tell on Mid Atlantic Wrestling in the next few weeks!'

MATCH #5:

Man I love these WCCW cards! Embry with a big win followed by a big loss for Garvin. Good thing Iceman was there. Bad News is becoming a huge deal in Texas. I like Idol using the classic heel tactic to secure the win. Kokina is moving up the ranks. The Hot Stuff/Freebirds cage match must of been a wild one. I feel bad for Gilbert when Hayes gets his revenge. Sting gets a big moment by scoring the pin. Looks like the Studd/Von Erich feud is far from over.

I have this idea of Adrian Street being reviled in Texas in the 80s. Especially when he really ramped up his act. That is one thing I appreciate about Eddie Gilbert as a heel. He's great at getting heat on a babyface, great at showing ass to keep it and great at putting over a huge beating when it's time to pay the piper. A lot of heels are good at two, but lacking when the third comes around (different for everybody really). The truly great heels have all 3 down. Agreed on Bad News, the guy is getting some much-deserved spotlight.
