Twitter interactions with @wrestlers

I'm going to take El-P's advice and spin this off into its own thread. :)

Pretty funny stuff indeed. :) This should be a thread in itself !

So, here goes...

Feel free to post your funny interactions with wrestlers, serious interactions, interactions that pissed you off or made you scratch your head.

Also, anyone who @s a wrestler to rip them should fuck off.

But that's the fun part of Twitter!

Especially when they respond.

I think the Bucks responded to something of mine once, though I can't imagine I would've @ them since I was even less familiar with them when this happened. I can only assume I responded to someone's else post where they were already @.

Its not the first to happen. The same thing happened with Road Dogg a while back where a fan said something and Roadie took offense said something and blocked the fan.

I've been blocked by:

Bubba Ray Dudley: He was doing his usual "you marks don't know anything" routine and I gave right back to him. He's one of those can who dish it out but can't take it. With that said, I was harsh, so I understand it.

Tama Tonga: He was bashing JR's commentary on Twitter instead of being a man about it and approaching JR personally. I cannot stand this millennial bullshit where kids feel they have to air their shit out on social media instead of man-to-man. He blocked me. Isn't Haku his dad? I may be wrong on that. Either way, wow, can you imagine Haku blocking anyone on Twitter like a 12-year-old girl? I can understand "working" on Twitter, but coming across as so soft, thin-skinned, and unprofessional seems counter to his Tongan tough man gimmick IMO.

Ryback: Shrugs. Your guess is as good as mine on this one. I only ever tweeted complimentary things about him. Too much IcoPro? What a knucklehead, lol.

If it sounds like I'm holding a grudge over any of this, I'm not. In case you can't tell, I'm mostly laughing.

I've also had cool interactions on Twitter with Dolph, Vader (even though we were disagreeing), Rip Rogers, and a few others.

To me, Twitter is all in good fun. I don't take any of it too seriously. Most of these wrestlers are "working" on Twitter, so there's no point taking offense to the Bucks or even Meltzer (he's working a gimmick too IMO, just not a good one).

Other good posts from the original thread:

I had a nice back and forth with Sabu via Twitter when I asked him about Dave McKigney. He can't spell to save his life, but he is actually pretty pleasant to fans on Twitter, as long you are respectful to him. He comes across as legitimately appreciative of fans. When I told him I used to drive down to Buffalo from Toronto because it was the only way to see ECW live, he actually thanked me.

The first indie show I ever went to with Sabu on it (he fought Scott D'Amore and the show also featured a pre-WWF Edge and Christian as Sexton Hardcastle and Christian Cage) the promoter told me that Sabu would not speak with fans at all or sign autographs (not that I wanted one.) Back then he never cut promos or appeared out of character. His snarky and dickish behavior towards fans was pretty legendary at one point, no doubt modeled after his uncle's attitude towards fans.

He eventually softened his stance on autographs, as he was selling autographed pieces of a broken table at another indie show I went to a couple of years later. Now he does podcasts and shoot interviews all the time, gives autographs, poses for pictures, answers questions and interacts with fans on Twitter. His attitude regarding interacting with fans has really changed over the years. Hell, he gives fans high fives on his way to the ring now. When he first broke in, if you touched him, he would literally attack you.

I know the main reason he has mellowed out is for financial reasons - he makes money selling autographed merchandise now, but I get the impression he is generally a more relaxed person now. Perhaps because of the copious amount of pot he smokes.

For the record, yes...I was the high vote for Sabu in the GWE.

I've been blocked by Chris Jericho, Michael Elgin, The Honky Tonk Man and... Rovert (lol).

Elgin blocked me after I made fun of his spelling & clowned his physical stature ("your (sic) not funny"). Jericho blocked me after I posted screenshots of him trying to defend Bill DeMott after his shit with the students. Honky Tonk Man blocked me because I said I think it'd be fun to just sit and listen to him verbally shit on people all night long since that's all his shoot interviews are. That one was kind of confusing.

Surprised Dave Meltzer or Jim Ross haven't blocked me yet.

They probably don't know how, lol. J.R. is old and Meltzer is a Luddite.

On Ryback, he might have some sort of blocklist and you got nailed for following someone on his naughty list.

It's possible, but I don't follow that many wrestlers - and I can't think of who would be on Ryback's naughty list. Who knows though. He isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed (but he is kind of a tool).

Speaking of which, despite all the rumors of JBL blocking Mauro Ranallo followers, that never happened to me.

Being blocked by Rovert just proves you're an intelligent person with smart, well articulated opinions. I'd wear that like a Twitter badge of honor.

Speaking of Twitter...perhaps we should use this thread to share our Twitter handles, in the event that we want to follow one another. The only PWO member I currently follow is Loss. He tends to post a lot of pro-Trump, pro-NRA, Fox News inspired Right Wing propaganda on his Twitter feed, but I like him anyhow.

...

Just kidding, Loss. :D

I would like to follow guys like C.S., Mad Dog and others whose opinions and posts I tend to enjoy here at PWO, so what the hell, if you want to share your Twitter handle, please do so.

As mentioned in my sig, I of course am @TheThreadKiller

I was blocked by the Young Bucks this week for tweeting (not at them, mind you, because I don't follow them and generally try to avoid being a dick on Twitter unless absolutely necessary) that I didn't think they were as good as the Midnight Express, whom I consider to be the greatest tag team of all time. Which is fine. Like I said, I don't follow them and I rarely saw anything retweeted into my feed that made me think that I needed to follow them. I just thought it was funny that they found my tweet from vanity searching and felt the need to block me for essentially saying that I did not believe them to be the greatest tag team of all time, especially since I actually like them, just not at the level of their most ardent fans.

I only got on twitter within the last year and to be honest I am sort of learning the intricacies and norms. I don't really @ wrestlers much anymore at all (good or bad). I honestly have no idea if anyone has blocked me and I would be a little surprised because I have a pretty small presence on Twitter.

I actually have a lot of mixed feelings about twitter. So much of it seems really toxic I don't really enjoy the interaction unless its positive and even that sometimes feels like it backfires because lots of fans are trying to feel like they are part of the business. I like talking about stuff I like, hyping stuff, sharing things I think are cool. Then I started to realize that it came off as nut-huggy sometimes, like I was trying to get over myself or buddy up to wrestlers or something, which wasn't really my intention. Maybe it is just my lack of experience with it and feeling old about it, but the window for the kinds of interactions I want to have on twitter seem really small.

In other news, my handle is in my sig. I'd be into following other fans from here, esp since I don't get on PWO as much as I used to/would like

This topic has people's twitter handles but hasn't been updated in a while http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/31300-twitter-handles/

Most of the wrestlers that have blocked me on twitter are the vanity searchers that will block anything negative even if you don't @ them. People like Kalisto, Velvet Sky, Angelina Love, Aliyah(NXT) are the ones that come to mind. Kalisto blocks pretty much anyone or at least used to when he was in NXT.

Vader and Jim Ross blocked me, both with good reason.

Vader got mad at a comment I made and called me fat boy (I am very fat so he wasn't wrong to do so). In response I started a campaign of images that called Vader out for body shaming me, sending them to HHH, Steph, Vince etc and saying they shouldn't put a noted body shamer into their HOF. I had fun trolling him and some of his fans for a day or two but eventually he blocked me.

JR, and this was during the last Presidential election season, tweeted out some fake quotes attributed to Hillary Clinton. I @'d him saying that someone with his influence and reach should be careful about tweeting out "fake news". He didn't appreciate it and came back at me with some harsh words. So I mocked up some memes of JR featuring things he had never said (anti gay marriage and pro ISIS comments iirc) and tweeted them to him and lots of other wrestling people. Well deserved instant block for it, but I like to hope he got the point.

My favorite Twitter interaction of all time was with William Regal several years ago.

I met Finlay at a show when he was out of WWE and told him what a fan I was of him and Regal. Finlay said Thanks and then said "but Regals totally gay!"

I tweeted Regal about the interaction and got the following response....

"Only for him sunshine, only for him!"

I'm on Twitter as @prowresonly. Even in this thread, though, I've seen people share their own examples of behaviors that they would never exhibit here or I'm assuming in personal interactions. Why? I don't get it.

Because Twitter is pretty much evil and does nothing but amplify and promote the worst aspects of humanity.

I can't speak for others, but I like this board and the people here, and take it seriously. Twitter - to me - is far less of a big deal, far more casual, and not something I take as seriously. While I've seen people (here and elsewhere) get into a tizzy over something the Bucks or Meltzer tweeted out, I rarely feel that level of passion for anything on Twitter. They're all working (Meltzer does a bad job of it, but he's working too), so who cares?

The poster above who made J.R. memes and mock-ups would probably be banned here for doing the same thing, but damn if I didn't laugh hard at his description of the situation. :D

The Vader thing offspring515 posted was also classic, but I disagree that he deserved to be blocked by Vader - fuck Vader for calling anyone else fat. I was howling with laughter at the body shaming campaign he waged against Vader with Steph, H, etc.

With that said, I got into an argument with Vader once - I can't remember what it was about (maybe the Ospreay-Ricochet match?) - and he never blocked me.

Guys, this is fucking awesome! Would our teenage selves have ever imagined getting into spats with Vader or J.R.? I don't know about you, but that's pretty incredible to me as a fan. :)

Oh, another story...

When Dolph Ziggler was stuck in that stupid love triangle storyline and made to look like the world's biggest gigolo even though he was supposedly a babyface at the time, I mentioned offhand in a tweet that he jumps from woman to woman on camera. He actually somehow saw the tweet and replied with something hilarious. That's why, as stale as Zigs has become, I can't bring myself to hate him.

I had Twitter for only a couple months and got nice replies from Nigel Mcguinness and William Regal, I was always very polite and addressed them with respect and got the answers I was looking for. I eventually gave it up as the retweeting and constant stream of stuff got tiring to scroll through to find the things worth reading for myself.

But for all the people bragging about getting blocked for slagging off or trolling folks (outside those blocked for vanity searches or for reasons they don't understand which is just what it is no harm no foul) perplex me as people act as if because you can contact these people on social media it makes it a buddy-buddy environment at best or everything is a statement or their character/beliefs at worst.

These people obviously use these accounts to further their business or for their personal enjoyment in their free time so how some people get surprised when they get blocked for acting the fool is just ridiculous to me. If this were a pub and people went about approaching people like this nobody could be surprised when someone would just ignore or walk away and refuse to interact further with them.

Also half the nonsense people tweet and imagine how many goofs these popular people must hear from, is trash few would have the courage to say in person to that individual. It just comes off as cowardly and an ego trip at times for people who like to lash out on twitter and that can be from either side no doubt.

This seems over-the-top hyperbolic to me. If Chris Hemsworth had a Twitter account as Thor and people tweeted out pro-Loki posts to him, would it be a big deal? That's every pro wrestling Twitter account. They're all working.

It's less a problem with Twitter specifically and more the internet in general. Even here, where Loss and the other mods keep things relatively civil there's people who drop some vile shit that they would never, ever say to the person face-to-face. A lot of my suburban married friends use this app called "Nextdoor" that's essentially a hyper-local Facebook and you see the same type of drama there. The nature of the internet has the tendency to de-personalize others and reduce them to just some pixels on a phone or laptop screen. I think Twitter may be the worst because it's such an open and the character limit almost incentivizes insults. Social media can be great, we've all met and interacted with folks we never would have otherwise but the downside, I think, can be far worse.

The great thing about Twitter is it's what you make of it. You don't have to follow Cornette or Rovert or Russo or the Bucks or Meltzer if you don't want drama (hate to throw Dave in there but it's true). Follow drama-free good people - Loss, KrisZ, Mookie, luchablog, accounts that post random old wrestling gifs, the remarkable Meltzer in the 90s one, Dylan, etc.

I'm different than many in that I use this crazy access we have to celebrities to say nice things to them! I love watching a great Memphis TV show and tweeting something to Lawler, Dave Brown, Dutch, etc, and getting likes showing that they saw it. That's awesome.

The brief time Lance Russell was on Twitter before he passed was like the best Twitter could ever hope to be.

The Mid-South Coliseum account just tweeted to the Libertyland account that Dave Brown skipped work today (he sometimes goes to operate a classic roller coaster) to attend a Memphis basketball game. Dave called the Mid-South Coliseum a tattle tail. Twitter is great if you use it right. Don't let the trolls kill it for you.

I'm mostly the same way. Once in a while though, someone like a Bubba Dudley or Tama Tonga will say something so stupid and oblivious that I can't help myself. But 99% of the time, I keep it positive with wrestlers. I even tweeted a compliment about a Baron Corbin shirt and got a like from the big man himself. The poor guy probably gets so much hateful crap on Twitter that I'm guessing he appreciated my positive comment.

Not a wrestler, but I got a reply from The Mountain Goats John Darnielle. Hes obviously a big wrestling fan as he did a whole album of wrestling songs. Before that hed written a few about wrestlers here and there. One was Ox Baker Triumphant. I tweeted a video of Bakers tv debut when he got interviewed as a fan and said hed like to try wrestling. Darnielle replies, incredible! I was totally geeking out.
