JetLag, your match is Misawa vs Vader from the Giant Baba Memorial show.

Thanks. Your match is -- Terry Funk vs. Virgil, NWC 10/7/95

Very few things excite me more in wrestling than watching Terry Funk in something I've never seen before, so thank you for this. That was a wild brawl and fun ass fuck to watch. Commentary was top notch too.

Far out of my wheelhouse. Looking forward to checking it out. Thanks.

You haven't been with us all that long, so I only have some sense of what you've seen and what you haven't, so here's something from my wheelhouse, but set in Japan. It's slightly JIP after the entrances, but you only lose two minutes.

Terry Funk vs Nick Bockwinkel (07/12/1983)

My thoughts on this match, this was a good pick as i have seen everything on tape for AJPW from 1989-2000 and a large amount of the 70s, the only baba lead AJPW time period I have not done a deep dive on is the late 70s through mid 80s.

My match assignment from southofheavy was Masahiro Chono and Sabu vs. Tatsumi Fujinami and Junji Hirata in a SUPERHARD SYNDROME match from the 1/4/95 Dome show.

We get off to a hot start with a Pearl Harbor job from SabCho, and Sabu hits a nice crossbody off a chair on the entrance ramp. Things settle down after Sabu accidentally dropkicks Chono. I enjoyed Chono and Hirata being dicks to each other (I especially liked Hirata putting Chono in the STF). But Sabu was mostly useless and looked lost whenever he didn't have a chair at his disposal, although I did get a kick out of Fujinami showing absolutely no respect for his offense. There was a spot near the end when Sabu legdropped Hirata through a table (or tried to at least-damn those unbreakable Japanese tables) only for Hirata to get up like nothing had happened. I don't know if he was supposed to roll out of the way and mistimed it or just felt like no-selling, but it was pretty funny. SabCho picks up with win with a chairshot followed by a Yakuza Kick. Pretty middling overall. Still, good on Sabu for getting a Tokyo Dome payday.

Alright for dawho5 since from a quick browse of his profile seems to have seen a bit of everything, I have chosen a match I really enjoyed just for the novelty of seeing it in their WWF years of Bret Hart vs Dynamite Kid from 09/14/85, it was on one of Bret's DVD releases a few years back.

I've just been hit with a big project at work, and I better step aside from the game for now.

Matt D, I think you have an extra person? They can take my spot. Rah and I have not exchanged matches yet.

southofheavy, you know your schedule. If you want to pair with Rah, great. If not, I'll double up gladly. Let us know. If we don't hear by tomorrow morning, I'll pair with Rah too.

For Matt d I have decided to go with a match from noah last year between marufuji and kaito kiyomiya a big hope for Noah's future and at the time of this match just 1 year into his career. It is a match between the older ace at the end of his tenure as top guy and a young boy.

I enjoyed this. (With all of two data points), I much prefer old Marufuji to young Marufuji and Kiyomiya feels like someone to watch (not that I actually watch anyone from NOAH, but hey, maybe I should). Thanks for this.

Here's the review for Bret vs Dynamite.

http://prowrestlingo...-kid-wwf-91485/

I enjoyed it as a look at where both guys were in 1985.  And as a look at heel Bret, which I think is a better Bret than as a babyface.

Catching up from last week - dawho5 gave me this:

https://youtu.be/qng13D2kKBo

I've watched an embarrassingly small amount of 90s All Japan - heck, I'm not sure I've ever seen Kroffat and Furnas on Japanese soil, only their (not good) stuff on this side of the pond. I don't think I've ever seen Kikuchi before. Love the fire early on, with the elbows in response to Kroffat's slap. The fans are super into this guy. Also, his rising sun tights are great. Kobashi is in and this is quite the babyface shine sequence. This is a great match to show people who think Japanese crowds are "quiet" as they are chanting like crazy for the babyfaces from the opening bell.

I'm still not loving Furnas here, but Kroffat is much better as a dick heel than he was as a babyface. Interestingly, there's sort of two heat segments here, but both are on Kikuchi, who is pretty great in the FIP role. Great seller, especially with his facials. The second heat segment on him is really fun (particularly when Kroffat is in there).  The hot tag to Kobashi is electric. This stays structured longer than an American tag match would, as things don't totally break down after the hot tag, even though we're building to the finish. The crowd really loses it's mind on the near fall after the dropkick doomsday device. Dug the finish, as did the crowd (holy wow what a pop for the moonsault).

Really awesome match, glad I got to see this.

For you, SPS, I picked Kazuo Yamazaki vs Norman Smiley from the UWF (11/06/1988)

Awesome! I love Newborn UWF and have all their shows but haven't watched any of them in almost 2 years now so this will be fun to rewatch. I loved Norman Smiley here and Yamazaki is always been a treat.

For SirEdger I'll give you Fit Finlay vs Masaharu Funaki from Reslo, although I've never found out the date of this match I really enjoyed these two together here and wish I had more of Funaki in Europe.

Alright, finally was able to watch the match SPS gave to me about 2 weeks ago between Fit Finlay and Masaharu Funaki from Reslo. That was my first ever match I watched from Reslo. I have no clue who was Finlay's valet in this one but she was of no importance in this one since she didn't interfere at any moment. I've also not watched a whole lot of European style wrestling so I'd say that this was pretty enjoyable to watch. Nothing overly complicated, just two guys trying to beat the snuff out of each other coupled with some very good chain wrestling in key spots. I got a particular kick out of Funaki completely no-selling an eye poke from Finlay at one point. Overall, for an introduction to Reslo, I think it was pretty fun. I'll sure try to find some more stuff from Masaharu Funaki in the future. As for the date itself, I would probably venture a guess that this is in the early 90s but I wouldn't bet any money on it lol

I shall be able to resume my Secret Santo watching this week but I'll let you know by Tuesday if I jump back in this week.

Throw me in. I'll review the match Tim Cooke gave me one day, maybe when he shows back up.
