Are we forgetting that WWE will probably have around 200k people attending their shows at Wrestlemania weekend? Not many people are aware of the Moolah story, like it or not, and it won't gain traction.

It did not gain traction when it was first released. It won't happen this time.

Is that bad? Yeah, of course. But acting like WWE will backpedal on this is a little bit delusional.

It's already got more awareness than I would have thought, the Facebook comments are usually full of the "YAY CENA, ROMAN RULZ" type of fan and they are mostly anti Moolah.

Funny thing, it's the same argument they used to keep Chyna out of their HOF: anyone who's able to do a Google search can find out the story. It's not like it requires the ability to navigate archaic pro graps newsgroups like it used to in order to find out salacious details like this.

The Alexa vs Nia stuff is great and I would expect the match to be excellent since there's nothing better than two people who are friends IRL not afraid to beat the shit out of each other to have a good match.

I agree, but I'm afraid it's gonna end up being Nia squashing her in a minute or so.

So they're trying everything to make Roman likeable, is that it? At least it's the narrative of the dirtsheets. But then, in the Cena segment, they make the guy go to the crowd, and do an ironic "Let's go Roman" knowing the reaction would be negative. So maybe they're exactly where they want with the guy. They know Cena drew and made money for them, so all they need to is keep getting those mixed reactions.

The wonderful job they did with Asuka being punked out for 95% of the match before winning in a fluke and getting punked out again doesn't inspire you any confidence ? Well, I hope Bliss retains by being a cheap bitch cheating heel. At least, Nia as a babyface can't be worse than her as a heel.

Should've just named the damn battle royal after Chyna ffs

Yep. Chyna knew what it was like being ganged up on.

Yeah but we're in year 5ish of Roman and he doesn't move the needle much at all.

I think his point is it doesn't matter if he moves the needle or if he gets cheers or not to the WWE. He is their guy, and they have the luxury of doubling down on him because they have John Cena (for how much longer though?)to sell tickets and do everything a real ace is supposed to do, so Roman can too.

You don't have to pay hommage to someone that's dead. They could have picked any name. They picked Moolah. Ok. They should have the Godfather do the ring introductions on that one. Ya know, pimpin' ain't easy.

Whats with all the nasty comments about Moolah? I don't mean you particulary but there are alot of message boards that just constantly slag her off which is a bit tasteless when she's dead. She always seemed regulary respected by WWE after all the years she gave.

She treated her trainees as slaves pretty much. She took a cut of their booking fee and forced them to live on her compound paying rent. She also pimped the girls out on the side. That's not getting into how women's wrestling was largely a joke because of her.

Any famous trainees?

Once it started getting attention (I think Bix's story on it was the top one at Deadspin yesterday) it was just a matter of time. It's frankly embarrassing that they felt they could get away with naming an event meant to showcase their women's roster after a known abuser in the age of #MeToo.

At least we got "Moolah empowered women" to replace "charity is the new PR" as the go to Steph-sounding-like-a-clueless-idiot quote.

Well, she did make the jump from someone who had actual zero wrestling training and was used only for eye candy to someone who crafted her skills and managed to become respected in the ring, and yeah, I would say she still is pretty good.

If the theme is empowering women, Trish wouldn't be the worst namesake ever, although I am curious as to which people of her era were better than her.

As for the renaming: color me surprised. I guess, like someone else mentioned, sponsors got notice of the buzz. I doubt they would backtrack on it based on people complaining on the internet alone, but it's something.

Trish Stratus Battle Royal wouldn't be that bad.

Ehh... Am I the only one who considers Trish wildly overrated? There were at least a 5-6 other women during her era who were better than she was IMO, and that's in WWE alone.

The point is, Trish was the first true female star of post/late Attitude era. The only two preceding ones were Sable & Chyna. She's a success story and she's a name from when the company was hot.

Well, that and the immortal "9/11 is like when the Federal State attacked my dad !"

I don't recall Steph having that many clueless moments but when she does they are beauties. The one about her dad on the live smackdown after 9/11 as you've quoted was a brain dead moment.

“We were recently made aware of the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc’s (WWE) decision to honor a former wrestler during the upcoming WrestleMania 34 event. As a principle-based business that has long championed creating inclusive environments that encourage and empower everyone to reach their full potential, this is unacceptable. We are engaging with the WWE to express our disappointment.”

Snickers statement is fairly clear as to their displeasure.

Tons. I can't find a list but Leilani Kai, Sherri Martel, Luna Vachon and Sweet Georgia Brown are just the ones I know off the top of my head.

What do you mean by moving the needle? I always try to keep in mind children, women, and casuals fans, and I don't think any guy fits the #1 position better than Roman Reigns for a company like WWE. Maybe Lesnar, but being a part time doesn't help, and of course they want someone different than Cena.

No, not at all. She was a shit worker, which I'll go to my grave saying. But she was very pretty and was a great bumper... and back then, that was enough to help her stand out. Plus she had charisma & could talk. Which also put her ahead of a lot of the other ladies. Like, what happens if you give Jackie or Lita a mic? They knew they could with Trish.

Very similar to modern day Alexa Bliss. Is she a great worker? No, but she's vastly improved & has enough tools in other departments to make-up for some of the lack of ring skill. Wrestlings never been about just in-ring & it never will be.

Trish is overrated but she worked in her era, like Alexa works now.

It kind of bothers me that Stephanie's interview is the one everyone remembers when you had Bradshaw calling for genocide on the very same show.

Probably because she was already kind of the official voice of the company. Sort of. Bradshaw was just some bully tag team wrestler barely on the rader at this point. People do remember him goose stepping in Germany though.
