R.I.P. Nick "Big Bully" Busick

I wonder how many people here will remember "Big Bully" Busick. He had only a cup of coffee in the WWF with Harvey Wippleman as his manager before Wippleman went on to manage a freshly-turned heel Sid in time for WrestleMania 8. I always wondered why the WWF never did more with him. He certainly had a memorable look, which is really saying something for that era.

From WWE.com:

Former WWE Superstar Nick “Big Bully” Busick has passed away at the age of 63, WWE is saddened to learn.

A notorious in-ring villain known for his signature derby and mustache, Busick battled Superstars like Bret “Hit Man” Hart, Sid and The British Bulldog in the early ’90s.

WWE extends its condolences to Busick’s family, friends and fans.

I remember him more for his GWF appearances than his WWF work.

I remember that too. I was shocked to see him appear for both GWF and WWF in one week, just because it was unheard of for one person to be in two federations at the same time in that era. I don't think I understood the concept of extended TV tapings back then. I knew GWF wasn't live (nor WWF), but I think I believed all of the weekday GWF episodes put together were one live show in the arena, and they taped new ones weekly. Obviously not, LOL.

I actually really liked him back then and was disappointed when he disappeared. He was a Vaudevillain 25 years before the fact. He had that funky looking submission hold too, that Matt Borne used to do as Doink later, where he stands on his opponent shoulders while pulling one leg up toward his opponent's body. That's some DDP Yoga for you. Someone I certainly wish I could have seen more of.

Yeah I remember him being on Global and WWE tv at the same time which was unheard of at that time. This must have been around fall 91 I remember he and Vince had a disagreement over the direction of the character. Vince wanted it to go in a more cartoonish direction while Busick wanted to be a more serious heel.

One of my favorites in Global, and then glad he got a shot in the WWF. When he quit the WWF, he basically retired from the business. Always found it interesting that in the early 80s he did some houses for the WWWF, never TV to my knowledge, often going over. But then waited a few years before returning to the business. He was a police officer back in those early years IIRC, so wrestling was just a part time job. He was a really good powerlifter too, running his own tournaments in West Virginia. His son just debuted in Bellator not long ago. Always wished he'd have waited to quit until after Survivor Series 1991, just to complete that colorful team of Mustafa, Berzerker, Skinner and the Bully, and if he'd made a PPV he'd have been remembered a bit more.

His character was also the entire reason Harvey Whippleman debuted, and they fit perfectly together. Then Busick quit and suddenly Harvey was without anyone until they gave him the Warlord and eventually Sid for the WM8 build up. The Dr. Harvey stuff was fun knowing he'd had history with Sid elsewhere, but other than the Bertha Faye angle that I thought was pretty great, I think Busick and Sid were the guys that ever really fit with him.
