The "Confirmed Stories of Triple H Being A Total Douchebag" Thread

Since it was mentioned in the JR thread, I thought it was a good idea.

Right off the top of my head I can think of several:

Potatoing JR on live TV

Making fun of Chris Masters for getting off the juice (also on live TV)

Constantly insulting Lilian Garcia repeatedly on live TV (I'm noticing a theme here)

Whenever he's briefly opposed by someone who's further down the card than himself, Hunter tends to act like he just doesn't care about the other guy. They're trying to cut a serious promo on him, and he just smirks and makes gay jokes back. Recently with Punk was the most current example, but he's done it countless times.

Hey, in all the years they feuded, did Kane ever get one single win over HHH? Or Jericho, besides that one "HHH threatens Hebner into reversing the decision" match? Trips is the king of one-sided feuds where the other guy is beaten over and over again.

Probably the single easiest thing to point to is Wrestlemania 19. A buddy of mine put if perfectly: "It took three Rock Bottoms to pin Stone Cold. It took three leg drops to pin Vince McMahon. It took three F-5s to pin Kurt Angle. But bah gawd, it only took one pedigree to pin Booker T!"

Not sure if it counts as "total douchebaggery": Live on Raw during the build to WrestleMania XVI, when Rock is doing his bit by mocking other wrestler's catchphrases, Hunter grumbles, "Yours is no better." The look in Hunter's eyes was pure hatred.

The worst thing about this wasn't that he was beaten so easily, but he was beaten so easily in a storyline where Triple H played a wink wink racist.

Kane beat HHH for IC Title in their Chain Match at Judgment Day 2001.

I don't know if it applies or not for being a total douchebag, but during the 2002 angle when babyface HHH was trying to convince Shawn (I think) to re-form DX with him. HHH made a comment to the effect of "Shawn, don't take your ball and go home. Don't be like Stone Cold!"

There's a lot of stuff that I'm not sure is confirmed, but sounds in character, like not wanting Flair to say "Whooo" when he was managing HHH for some reason.

Yeah, Dave Meltzer on several occasions has teased on his message board that Triple H buried Flair in creative meetings and refused to put him over. Like:

You guys are going to hate this answer, especially the ones who think HHH hate is so 2002.

Flair and Steamboat pushed for it for years.

HHH always kiboshed it in creative.

HHH on the other hand was still the guy who wouldn't job for Flair in Flair's last match at the Greenboro Coliseum, saying in the big picture, they needed to get Regal involved to build a future HHH vs. Regal match (a 3:00 TV squash).

Completely agree with that one. The way they ran the storyline heading into Mania, there was no way Book could lose. Even if he was kneecapped by dropping the title back at the next PPV, you just can't have Book lose after running a racist storyline leading into Mania. But Trip came up with excuses to do it.

Has anyone heard the real story and the correct timeline on the HHH/Stephanie/Chyna ordeal. I've heard Chyna's shoot but she's so out of it/high that her timeline makes no sense and she just rambles.

Didn't Hunter and Stephanie briefly breakup in late 2000 (with H going back to Chyna who in theory should have already known about the affair) before getting back together in Spring 01?

Edit: Chyna and Hunter were together in Oct. 2000 because that MTV special about Chyna filmed her for No Mercy 2000 (in Oct. with her and Hunter still together)) but then later interviews revealed that Hunter and Stephanie were together in Summer 2000 with Laurer finding the letters from Stephanie

I can never remember whether I'd told this story before, but in 2000 my dad worked with someone who lived in the same apartment building in Manhattan as Stephanie McMahon. At some point (Spring or Summer I'd guess) he saw HHH going up to Stephanie's apartment. It was long before it broke publicly that they were together and while he was still believed to be with Chyna.

Bring on the backstage stories, those are the ones I have trouble remembering. What exactly were Flair and Steamboat pushing for years, just to have Flair beat HHH one time?

Anyone recall Bad Blood '04? Triple H's matches with Shawn always tended to be much longer than they needed to be, but this was fucking insane. FIFTY-TWO MINUTES. In the Cell, no less. They spent half the time just laying down selling. And it didn't even involve the title, that was wasted in a pointless Benoit/Kane match in the undercard.

Also, Mania 22. Trips's promos up to that event were basically all shoot-burying Cena for being a lousy wrestler. And Cena basically just nodded and said "Why yes sir, of course you're right, I'm not nearly as good as The Game!" It was baldly calculated to make the Mania audience (in Chicago, which has frequently had a smarky, cranky crowd) to boo Cena right out of the building. And guess what, they did exactly that. HHH, the nominal heel, was cheered like a Road Warrior. And then he did the strangest ending, tapping out way too quickly to a submission hold that Cena had barely ever used before. It killed the momentum of the finish, and probably let Hunter dodge ever jobbing to Cena ever again. After all, John is one of the few guys that Hunter just can't bury politically. So he ate this one loss, did it in a way which confused and pissed off the fans, and has most likely been using the "but I tapped out to him at Mania already!" excuse any time someone even whispers the idea of him losing to Cena at any time in the future.

Flair and Steamboast pushed for one last match between them at WM for years.

The other story was separate. Flair's last match in the Greensboro Coliseum (his home arena for years) on the retirement run was against HHH. HHH said he couldn't do a job because he had a match with Regal next the week that would be jeopardized or whatever if he lost to Flair, so the finish was some sort of shmoz. The Regal match the next week was a 3 minute nothing match.

Oh, and WRT Jericho, there was that item about HHH sarcastically going up to every wrestler on a house show tour and sarcastically gleaming about how Jericho was coming in and will be the savior who brings business up so much that everyone will be swimming in money.

On the Raw where Hunter forces Earl Hebner to reverse the decision he refers to Chris Jericho as "that sawed-off midget." WWE left that in the Raw 15th Anniversary DVD set.

It's on the set that I have. Perhaps we have different productions of the DVD.
