I saw it pointed out on Twitter, and it is quite funny, that the most significant names in the business (Bret, Flair, Austin etc) are all perfectly happy to work with Dave and acknowledge his position in the industry while the insecure lesser lights like JBL and Prichard are so vehement in taking shots at him.

I really can't stand Prichard. He's insightful at times but he's just an obnoxious ass more often than not.

Was it wrongfully though? Clearly something happened to cause Mauro to leave, and at the very least JBL was being an ass about if not being the direct cause. Just because Mauro did a tweet upon his return clearly meant to squash any heat, people dogpiled on that as proof Dave was wrong or worked.

The thing is: the maximum we had of JBL "bullying" Mauro was that clip on Bring it to the Table which really wasn't anything anyone should bat an eye.

 

The rest was just people citing previous cases of JBL being a dick, but not a single thing, a single rumour about what he could have done to Mauro. I get that Mauro has had some personal issues in the past, some that even caused him to miss some SD days, but the dogpiling in this case was just.... baffling.

I also dont think theres such a thing as unbiased journalism. Which is fine as long as people try to understand all sides of what theyre covering and are up front about their own positions.

Because the PWI 500 is fun. It's fun to go in the back and see the random indy guys back there. And there's a certain touch of nostalgia to it. We all remember those bottom 50 guys like the Japanese Pool Boy or Mr. Oh-la-la.

 

He's an essential part of wrestling history and that's why he's in the WON HoF. But he's a kayfabe journalist. The Apter mags are about presenting wrestling in a magazine in kayfabe. Apter could be argued to be a wrestling historian but he's never pretended to be a journalist.

The latest Observer contains a rather bizarre assertion. Dave claims that ALS is so closely identified with Lou Gehrig that virtually nobody knows the disease's technical name. I find that rather unlikely. After all, it's not called the Lou Gehrig's Disease Ice Bucket Challenge. It can't even be attributed to Dave being too deep in the wrestling bubble to be aware of it because he participated in it.

Calling it ALS is a fairly recent shift, isn't it? I could see that being a generational difference.

It is. For most of my life it was called Lou Gherig's Disease. Like you said, ALS as a term is relatively "new".

ALS is a generational shift from Lou Gherig's - as I assume that is not a name most are now familiar with. Lou Gherig's Disease was a literal naming from an early 20th Century baseball player as it was through him that it first really came to prominence.
