  1. Like I said on the HOF show Kris and I did a couple of weeks ago, which he agreed with: Even if you're pro-Ishii, should he really get in ahead Meiko Satomura, who has consistently been one of the very best wrestlers in the world for roughly a quarter century? Should he even go ahead of the Briscoes, who are pretty much indisputably the longest-tenured great working tag team in wrestling history? I don't necessarily mind him going in, because he does have a massive resume of widely acclaimed matches and his career arc leading in to his HOF-level in-ring run is so bizarre that it feels like he deserves credit for shedding the journeyman label and getting over to the degree he did. But he wasn't even the best workrate candidate on the Japanese ballot. He just had the advantage of his run coinciding with the NJPW streaming boom. Regardless, I'm...more or less fine with who got in. Nobody who I could never see myself voting for got in, and three candidates I voted for (Rocca/Perez, Beauty Pair, and Blue Panther) got in. Also: It's fascinating to me that Randy Orton was the top vote getter among retired wrestlers and wrestling personnel, but didn't even reach the top thirty among any other voting block, even active wrestlers and wrestling personnel. It's like they're voting for the idea of Randy Orton more than the actual Randy Orton. I do think Dave needs to split up "Rest of the World," though, and more or less reset it to what it was before a few years ago. Europe can be a category with maybe the Middle East and Africa thrown in if needed because there was a decent amount of overlap, the Jim Barnett/Steve Rickard countries can be another (with maybe Hawaii thrown in as Dave has done before), and Puerto Rico can just be thrown in with U.S./Canada.
  2. So I've been thinking about this a little bit, and...his most destructive falsehoods would probably be the David McLane stuff, right? For those not familiar, for years on end, Scott would rail against McLane as a sexual harasser who Luna Vachon and Ivory had called out in interviews, specifically naming Luna's interview in the 1990 Observer Yearbook at one point. Luna says nothing like that in the interview (or her and Gangrel's later shoot interview tape, IIRC), and neither has really said anything negative about McLane that I could ever find. Hell, I've never been able to find any interviews with GLOW, POWW, or WOW cast members that were negative on him. Negativity towards director Matt Cimber, yes, but even then, not close to that level, and the GLOW girls welcomed him with open arms in at the reunion that was shot for the GLOW documentary.
  3. Any idea why these never circulated much? I don't think I ever saw them anywhere outside of the RF list, and the one time I tried getting what looked like some of them from Friedlander's "no listing" section, they were mislabeled.
  4. They weren't on his comps. He had two Memphis arena footage tapes from 1988, I believe, and I've never seen them on anyone else's list. Ever. My hunch is they were later period SCORE Match of the Week picks, as I believe the Jackson/Tupelo/etc. Memphis B-show was gone by then. Some other things off the top of my head before I go back to sleep: The 1981 Jonesboro shows that Randy Hales shot while going to broadcasting school in watchable quality. Charles Warburton was the source for the version we have, and I've never seen it anywhere else. Randy doesn't have this stuff anymore, either. The Memphis arena stuff from 1980-1981 that RF sold while working with Cornette that seemingly only Warburton bought. Various Japanese indie scum shows that disappeared from circulation after Scott Mailman and Nathan Julian vanished and I lost my tape collection to Hurricane Sandy. Evansville handhelds circa 1993 that were in the old phone book sized RF Video tape list via xeroxes of someone else's list (maybe Jeff Osborne's?) Full versions of the UWA matches that aired on World Pro Wrestling. The '80s Giant Baba anime. MTV broadcast of the Brawl to Settle it All. The Ron Rivera/Rudos Video "satellite TV" comps in general, but especially for the complete version of Sagrada-Black Cat. The late period LeBell and early LA lucha stuff from the "jellybeans" YouTube channel. Mitch Lucas's Continental TV that he taped himself from mid-1986 through the end. The July 2001 (I think) episode of DDT's monthly show on Mirai TV. Nathan had bought that month's Doglegs show from Jeff Lynch, it has the intro of the DDT show after, and it hyped up a ladder match of some sort with guest stars like Hideki Nishida mixed in. It looked incredible. But when Nathan asked Jeff about it after getting the Doglegs tape, Jeff said he didn't have it? I'll stop now.
  5. For what it's worth, there ARE other stories out there about him explicitly looking down at the east Tennessee/mountain fans as dumb hicks... even though the money towns in SMW were liberal college towns.
  6. There are at least two different drafts circulating. The version circulating online isn't the same as the one Court Bauer circulates to friends, wrestlers, etc.
  7. Just as someone who's been on that board a long time. Tom was, improbably, still a wrestling fan, and would read wrestling stuff online, so I suppose it's possible there are regular fans who he befriended online over the years. (Or HowardJuneau has always been someone working at WWE and we had no idea.) As for the underlying topic with the names: Michael Cole I think is just a coincidence since his name is Sean Michael Coulthard. Tom Phillips...that seems more likely, though his real name is also Tom.
  8. Curious who said that on the board. I've never heard anything authoritative, but it was something that Tom Cole himself believed.
  9. The old classics site was before they had the informal policy of trying to edit Mel Phillips out of shows as much as possible, if I remember right. So either these will start in 1988 or later, or be a very carefully edited drop of the first 13 episodes.
  10. So I happened to have conversations with (mostly former WWE) wrestlers in the last several days where Meltzer happened to come up, and based on what they said, the answer is likely "because they think Dave is a puppet for the office." Being that: * WWE has largely stopped responding to wrestling reporters' requests for comment, but Dave is constantly talking about needing to formally ask WWE about this or that. * He reported that quickly debunked story (that he never issued a correction on) about Riddle "telling WWE about the rape allegation when he signed" (when Riddle's narrative is that Cartwright went Bitches Be Crazy after he broke off the affair, which was almost a year after he signed). * Stuff like the "I don't know if Punk is gonna be at Raw, but one of the biggest stars in the history of the business is sure he will be" story turned out to be explicitly planted by the office, if I remember correctly. ...I can see where they're coming from.
  11. Enzo claimed that, and the police report later backed him up.
