  1. From what I gathered this was also the introduction of Mr Wrestling II to the Houston crowd, which explains why there is zero heat through most of the match save for the crowd popping for big or different moves. I still love to watch Mr Wrestling II in action as well as a good monkey flip so I was very happy here, even if the match wasn't the greatest.
  2. Watch this for the post match angle more so than the match. Duggan and Volkoff mostly throw haymakers at each other in a short little brawl. After the match Volkoff is forced to read the Pledge of Allegiance which the promoters were nice enough to provide on paper for him to read. Duggan ends up strong arming Volkoff and feeds him every line of the pledge. 1984 America was a patriotic America. There were flags all throughout the audience and they ate this stuff up but their ecstatic joy turned to absolute hatred when the heels bloodied Duggan and attempted to shave his head. There aren't many angles I have seen hotter than this one, the crowd was literally off the charts for throughout the whole thing.
  3. The simplicity of this match mentioned above is spot on. There is no need for a highlight package to keep track of a meandering storyline, all Boesch tells us is that Gino broke Jose's arm and he wants revenge. The arm holds Lothario uses are move I have seen countless times but they looked so much more painful in this match, which may be the fact that the holds have meaning and depth within the story. Having avoided spoilers for most of these matches I was quite surprised to see Gino winning. I can't wait to see how they top this to blow off the feud.
  4. I think you guys missed the boat on Daniel Bryan being a smart modern babyface. Otherwise you guys did your job as I was on the fence on subscribing to the NWA or NJPW and the podcast has convinced me to just subscribe to both. I am sure my wife will be thrilled.
  5. Ambrose/Rollins is going on last? I didn't see that coming.
  6. If the match is not going to a third fall why even hold a 2 out of 3 falls match? A long one fall match might have been better here.
  7. Paul Heyman rules in the kickoff show "What the hell is shucky ducky quack quack?"
  8. 96 Goldust doesn't qualify as a good/great heel run? He did have fans sending him threats at one point. Ambrose/Rollins is the one match that I am excited about. Like many or most I have soured on the television product, but still enjoy the matches on the PPV's. Current WWE might be best viewed in a vacuum forgetting the trash that is RAW.
  9. The story coming in was Cedric Alexander had been successfully winning indie dream matches for PWX and AJ was the next dream match in his series. These two put on a good wrestling match that showcased AJ Styles abilities. The mat wrestling at the beginning was smooth and far better than what your traditional indie main event would bring. AJ takes some big bumps including falling between the bottom two ropes flat on his back. The indie spottiness of the end did not bother me as I appreciate that stuff for what it is. Alexander throws everything and the kitchen sink at AJ to put his shoulders to the mat for the pin, but AJ won't stay down. Cedric's sell on the pele kick is awesome. He slowly moves to the ropes completely out of it then just falls back on the ropes to prop himself up. Country Jack interferes to setup the Styles Clash which I don't mind since it should, in theory, setup a future feud for Alexander. This was worth your time as it is pretty good. ***1/2
  10. This is one of the better young boy matches you will probably see this year. They wrestle a short but impactful match full of stiff kicks and knees. Nakajima is the star of the show just laying in some brutal kicks to Xtra Large. He has great fire and looks to be on the rise. Xtra Large got in some decent offense but his kicks were a little soft at times but his running double knee in the corner looks sweet. Nakajjma looks pretty good and in the furture maybe he can help replace the gigantic hole Kenta is leaving on the card.
  11. New upload http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x19z9kj_rush-tetsuya-naito-vs-rey-escorpion-tomohiro-ishii-njpw_sport I never expect much out of the yearly Fantasticamania tour because many times it feels like we don't get a Fighting Spirit vs Lucha Libre match without either competitor holding back. Here we see the Lucha guys laying in shots to each other and the NJ guys doing the same but never stiff NJ vs CMLL action. I wonder if one issue is that NJ comes off the biggest show of the year before Fantasticamania and do not work as hard during this tour or if neither promotion wants their guy to injure one from the other promotion due to the differences in wrestling styles. Another problem cropping up is that both teams are kind of thrown together and do not have the chemistry to make for spectacular pro wrestling. The match is a good solid tag lacking a great story to tie everything together. Certainly not required viewing.
  12. Well this was certainly a happening. Biggs and Michaels were a once proud tag team, and now are feuding with this match being the blowoff. They wrestle a street fight with the loser leaving town for a year. Biggs comes to the ring looking like an overweight Beastie Boy with a "It sucks to be you" t-shirt. New Jack must be our booker as we get a trash can full of weapons straight from one of his matches. I was never one of the people openly upset about wrestlers getting hit in the head since these are grown adults who can decide for themselves if letting themselves get hit in the head for my enjoyment is the right move. That being said it does feel odd to see guys getting straight shots to the head. Another odd thing is that that 6 or 7 years ago someone in this match would have hit a gusher but there is no blood to be found. This feels like an ECW match without the ECW crowd certainly watchable but nothing to write your mother about. I guessed Chris Masters finisher was a superkick and I hit that one right on the head, sometimes you can just tell. Enjoyable little affair but certainly no MOTYC.
  13. These two come into this with a big match feel being CMLL vs NJPW. The ring entrances are spectacular (for a small show) however like the matches on the Dome show this match was lacking something. Rush comes out in what looks like a white Predator mask with bull horns and Nakamura is painted up almost exactly like Prince Devitt from the big Dome show, which is something rarely seen at a smaller venue. The match isn't as memorable as the ring attire which is not to say it is craptastic as it is quite crisp but feels like an exhibition than the wrestlers trying to paint masterpiece on the blank canvas. As much as I like the gracefulness of the madman Nakamura this isn't required viewing.
  14. So why is the USWA in Jacksonville FL? This is just wrong but the internet's beloved indie superstar Vordell Walker makes the short drive down I-95 to Freakville to wrestle what I think is some kind of deathmatch or at least street fight but the stips are not clearly defined anywhere on the YouTube page. Dagon serves his purpose to at least make this an enjoyable match and Walker bumps all over the place to put this kid over. There were a couple of badly missed bumps like the suplex on the chair and the finish. For the finish they introduced thumbtacks which I would be a little leary of in a small indie but they put them down spread out over the entire ring and bump into about two of them. The tack bump wasn't great and never milked they were there and then boom foreign object used, Dagon win. The crowd was really into this match and several surely walk out of the building thinking this is the greatest match they have ever seen, however stepping back through the window of time the match itself is an okay time waster but nothing to go gaga over.
