  1. That was probably the moment Brock fell in love with her.
  2. I'm watching the ACW show on Floslam right now and its wonderful indy sleaze. Overall I would say it has been a really good mania weekend in terms of quality of each show. All of the major shows of the weekend have delivered so far and in the past there would be at least one that would disappoint massively.
  3. Well first and foremost any kind of expansion plans WWE had in China are now dead. American-Chinese relations are going to become very frosty and since WWE has very close ties with Trump and Linda being part of the government, the Chinese government will throw a wrench into any kind of business WWE will attempt to do in the next four years. If the Trump administrations does go bad, then there is a good chance that WWE will become a propaganda tool. Which would make criticizing the booking a punishable offence. Then it will be interesting to see who in the wrestling media will fall in line (Alvarez), who will stay true and be in a risky position (Keller) and who will get themselves into hot water by underestimating the situation (Meltzer).
  4. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2kli3_tracy-smothers-vs-dirty-white-boy-1_sport Tracy Smothers vs DWB from SMW in 93. Unfortunately only the first half is still up on Daily Motion.
  5. Well, you did warn me. It was like the worst LU show ever. It never really felt like a true lucha libre show like CMLL was anyway, with zero trios match. Johnny Mundo's entrance was gold though, but the match with Pentagon was not very good. Usual Mundo spotfest without heeling (he looks much better in 6-men matches in LU). Pentagon kinda working face didn't do much for me either, although he looks like a star. The three-way was just that, a three-way with its share of clunkiness. Still don't think much of Texano Jr. He's solid. I don't see anything special in him. The four team tag team title match was a total clusterfuck, with some great diving sequences. What else... The LU match I liked, although it lacked heat, only Rey Jr. was really over (and damn, was he over). Vampiro totally fucked up on announcing was classic though. Had me rolling. The only thing I enjoyed in the undercard was the Apache match, probably because it was cool to see Faby still looks like a excellent worker. Going back to the ARSION days, when Mari Apache broke the mold of crappy luchadoras before Faby became even better. Well, it was different and clusterfucky but it did tell a story, and Faby is a trooper. The old FMW fan in me enjoyed the bloodletting. Speaking of which, I did love the main event. Crazy, insane brawling which actually built into the insanity, although one can argue the selling was not exactly consistent (it wasn't, but it was all about the insanity). I could have done without the run-ins at the end (damn, Damian is still around ? And Psychosis has become kinda fat), pretty useless, especially the swerve with Doc Wagner, but the final spot was grand in its ECW stupidity. Dunno if I'd call this a great match, but the seediness, dirtyness and plain crass violence was something else. Gotta love the fact kids are in the audience. Mexico. A different kind of culture. I admit I like my pro-wrestling in its non-hygienist glory. So there. Great intros too BTW, especially Psycho Clown. Well, I'd probably call this a MOTYC anyway. So, pretty clusterfucky card, with tons of stuff that didn't look too good and wasted potential, but one memorable match/angle in the undercard and one amazing crazy main event. AAA does look like a completely different product than CMLL. I'm sure the pure lucha fan hate AAA. Is Konnan involved with them still ? Until recently AAA had a weird booking set up where Konnan would book the TV and one of the Roldans would book the big show. Konnan actually did a good job booking the TV, he kept the usual AAA shenanigans to a minimum and built feuds well. But because he didn't book the big shows those feuds rarely ever paid off. Then he had falling out Nr. 3500 with the promotion and left now the TV has become just as bad as the big shows. As for something more positive CMLL's card for friday looks absolutely amazing. 1) Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Marcela vs Amapola, Dalys, Zeuxis 2) Rey Cometa vs Cavernario 3) Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., The Panther vs Negro Casas, Puma, Tiger 4) Volador Jr. vs Mephisto 5) La Máscara & Rush vs Marco Corleone & Máximo Sexy 6) Valiente vs Último Guerrero 7) Atlantis, Carístico, Mistico vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja Every match has the potential to be at least good and some could even be great. The only question is if the workers will take the show seriously and not mail it in, since it is technically only a normal TV episode.
  6. In a weird way this kind of like a Mid 80s territory wrestling TV episode. You had the promoter giving a big push to his son, way before he is ready. Then a lengthy squash match, where the star tests out new stuff. The champion and the challenger brawl before their big title match. And then you have a main event with the Rock 'n' Rolls.
  7. I expected nothing and got even less than that. He seems to be in favor of WWE being a monopolist, which given WWEs track record with things like unionization is just really weird. Also no mention of the entire independent contractor situation in the third part. Really only the most basic surface level analysis of WWE and wrestling in general.
  8. US started their heel turn tonight. Can be complete in 6 months when they hit the Baltic states in the back with a chair to let Russia pin them.
  9. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I guess I just committed to giving it a try by ordering a microphone on amazon. So we shall see how it turns out. I'm interested. Let's discuss. Awesome to hear. I'll send you a PM.
  10. I've had three ideas for different podcasts floating around in my head. 1. A look at the Death of the Territories from an economics and business point of view. Most of the shows on the end of the territories focus primarily on the talent leaving. I want to look at the economic situation in the region each promotion was based in and see how that contributed positively or negatively to the demise of the promotion. Additionally I would like to look at the business model of each promotion and see how and if they tried to adapt once the situation became bad, also trying to assess the business skills of each promoter and maybe other key people involved. That of course would take quite a bit of research and would be a limited series, since it really only makes sense for regional promotions. 2. A show discussing wrestling outside of the general mainstream areas of wrestling. Essentially wrestling everywhere that is not US, Mexico, Canada, Japan or the UK. There of course the challenge would be acquiring the viewing material ranging from quite easy for places like Germany or Denmark to incredibly challenging for places like lets say Turkmenistan or Botswana if they even have wrestling. But that would be kind of the point of the show in addition to discussing wrestling from the easier to aquire places. I would see this a monthly show to be able to acquire enough new viewing material, because a weekly show would essentially only allow discussion of places like wXw with only occasional dives into the obscure. Whereas a monthly show allows a good dive into the wrestling in one specific place. Still trying to flesh out the specifics here. 3. Essentially trying to find gold nuggets in a pile of shit. I want to look at the worst most infamous events in wrestling and determine whether they are completely without any merit or if they have some stuff in them that can even be described as very good. This could be a bi-weekly or even weekly format. All them still need a bit of fleshing out. If anyone is interested in working on these with me hit me up.
  11. How should wrestlers use twitter? Well just like everyone else they shouldn't use it all, because twitter is the worst social media platform ever invented.
  12. I think this pretty much cements TNA as at least the weirdest wrestling promotion ever, which is even more of an accomplishment than being the worst. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=105347
  13. I would argue that the wrestling stable did more than the actual League of Nations. Not that that is saying much. Dragon Gate generally has pretty good units, which makes sense given that the whole promotion is build around faction warfare. But they also managed to have a really big miss with the Deep Drunkers faction, which was completely useless and made up of mostly mid and lower card guys. What makes it even worse is that DG generally only has one heel unit at a time, so this essentially left DG without any top heels for a while.
  14. So what you're saying is valid criticisms = ageism? I'm sorry should people just agree with someones statements and actions simply because they are older? That seems like a very backwards attitude to me.
  15. As I currently have some free time on my hands I have thought about starting a little watching project of my own. One of the things that has been on my mind for a while is the time when I really started to get into wrestling and I started to branch of more and from the standard WWE stuff. One of the first things besides Raw and Smackdown that I was aware off was Impact Wrestling, but I think there are already enough people covering that. The other product that I started watching then was a little internet exclusive show called NXT Redemption. This was the weird in between period of NXT after it stopped being a game show that offered a roster spot and before it became what it is today. While I didn't watch much of it I was just fascinated by the weirdness on display and I got heavily invested into the whole Derrick Bateman/Maxine/Johnny Curtis storyline. While I have branched out much much further since then it still holds a special place in my heart. So seeing as the whole show is available on the WWE YouTube channel I have decided to watch all 67 episodes of NXT redemption and give my thoughts on it here. I will embed a video of every episode here so you can watch along if you so desire. Episode 1 - 2011/03/08 We open with Mr. Charisma himself Todd Grisham and William Regal on commentary. I don't know if Regal was already doing commentary on FCW at the time, but it is was surely early in his commentary career. While he is already better than Todd he is still a bit rough around the edges in this episode. Then we are introduced to our hosts Matt Striker and Maryse. For both of them this was pretty much the last thing they were doing before they left the company. Striker introduces us to the "rookies" of this season: Darren Young, Jakob Novak, Konnor, Byron Saxton, Titus O'Neil and Lucky Cannon. Unfortunately none of my NXT Redemption favorites like Bateman or Curtis are on this starting roster and if Titus O'Neil is the best worker of your group you know your in for a rough time wrestling wise. Striker then continues to explain the rules of this season where you can earn redemption points, which if you make it to the next season of NXT, which at the time was still supposed to be a game show you can use these redemption points to add them to your point total to avoid elimination. At least I guess that is what it means since Striker did a very poor job explaining it and it also matters fuck all anyway. This was still trying to stick to the format of the earlier seasons so we are introduced to this seasons pros and which rookie they are assigned to: Chavo and Young, Kozlov and Konnor, Tyson Kidd and Lucky Cannon,JTG and Jakob Novak, Yoshi Tatsu and Byron Saxton this team actually fits since they are both terrific announcers now, oh sorry English isn't my first language I meant terrible. Titus O'Neil gets Hornswoggle as his pro because of course he does. With these pairings this truly is the Island of misfit toys. Noteworthy in this whole introduction is Chavo cutting the worst promo I have ever seen. It is absolutely abysmal and he comes across as a truly desperate man trying not to get fired. Even if you don't want to watch the whole episode watch the Chavo promo. https://youtu.be/edUr1N_C8O0?t=246 We then go into our first match Darren Young vs Jakob Novak. Oh boy I am already regretting this but time to commit. I have no memory whatsoever of Jakob Novaks existence before I watched this episode and neither does Regal apparently judging by his commentary. He kind of looks like a tall Josh Mathews and that is about all I can say about him. He immediately left my mind after the episode was over and I actually forgot to include him in the lists above at first and only when I went through my notes did I remember him. We get an absolutely standard WWE style match with no heat and Darren Young goes over, which if I remember NXT Redemption correctly is something he will do a lot. This is followed by a backstage segment where Yoshitatsu attempts to flirt with Maryce only to get cockblocked by Byron. I know the heights of backstage segments this show will eventually reach but we are long way away from that. Next we get a Konnor promo where he wears a shirt and tie which just looks bizarre and they attempt to humanize him. While in general this is a good idea and is something WWE should do a lot more this just did not work at all for me. Basically Konnor grew up poor and is really sad about it. But he is just so bad at conveying emotions and devoid of charisma that even when he is crying it just doesn't move you at all. Up Next Boot Camp Obstacle Course, but first a commercial for The Chaperone with Triple H. I can barely contain my excitement for either of those. We come back to an obstacle course consisting of a wall to climb over, a net to climb under, a balance beam, some flags to run around and finally a bag of undetermined weight they have to carry across the finish line. I should mention at this point that I am a big fan of shows like The Challenge, American Ninja Warrior or Redneck Island and the Challenge this is not. Everyone goes through the course without much excitement being created until we get to Lucky Cannon. He refuses to participate in this bore fest and instantly becomes my favorite on the show. Anyway Darren Young wins so I guess he really did used to be great. Ha who knew. We move on to our Main Event Titus O'Neil vs Lucky Cannon. This match is really bad. While having a limited move set doesn't have to be a bad thing, it is though if you do not even know how use the moves that you have well. So if you are like Lucky Cannon and your entire move set consists of shitty punches, shitty kicks and a headlock you are unlikely to be able to produce a good match. With this Lucky Cannon immediately leaves my favorite status again. Finish has 4 Foot 4 or 132 cm Hornswoggle shoving 6'6" / 198 cm Lucky Cannon off the top rope into a Clash of the Titus because of course it does. So yeah this is not off to a great start, but I know it is going get better and I hope some of you will enjoy this journey with me together.
